Homer Dale Shafer Jr.
March 25, 1933 - January 6, 2012
Homer D. Shafer Jr., age 78, of Logansport, died at approximately 11:27 am Friday, January 6, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospital in Kokomo.
Born March 25, 1933 in Carroll County, IN, he was the son of Homer Dale and Katherine E.(Shaffer) Shafer .
Homer was a former Police Officer for the City of Logansport for over 21 years and held the rank of Captain when he retired. He also worked for the Logansport State Hospital before he retired for a second time in 1995.
Homer was a member of the American Legion Post #60, Life Member of V.F.W. Post #3790 and a member of the Logansport F.O.P. Lodge #71.
Homer was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in the Korean War and also served in the U.S. Army and the Indiana National Guard.
Survivors include, 5 sons - Stephen (Lorraine) Shafer of Logansport, IN, Timothy (Debra) Shafer of Noblesville, IN, Thomas Shafer of Logansport, IN, Patrick (Kimberly) Shafer of Monticello, IN, Scott (Stephanie) Shafer of Logansport, IN; daughter – Melissa (Mark) Ambre of Noblesville, IN; 2 brothers - Bob (Janet) Shafer of Lockport, IN, Doug (Ann) Shafer of Logansport, IN; 4-sisters - Clarabelle (Don) Potts of Burnettsville, IN, Evelyn (George) Vianco, of Logansport, IN, Shirley Long of Monticello, IN, Kay (Steve)Wright of Zionsville, IN; 14-Grandchildren, Stephen D. Shafer Jr., Ross Shafer, Ren Shafer, and Jesse Shafer of Logansport; Kevin Shafer and Taylor Shafer of Indianapolis; Jeffrey Shafer of Calabasas, CA; Leslie Thompson, Cicero; Jessica Shafer, US Coast Guard stationed in San Francisco; Ashley Ponto, Lafayette, Amanda Ortman and Aaron Henson, Indianapolis; Zachary Shafer, US Air Force stationed at Shaw AFB in South Carolina, and Grace Shafer, Noblesville and 9-Great Grandchildren, Dylan and Mason Shafer, Logansport; Norah, Polly, and Ingrid Thompson, Cicero; Maya and Maddox Shafer, Calabasas, CA; Noah Shafer, South Carolina; and Ethan Shafer of Indianapolis.
Homer was preceded in death by a grandson, Luke Shafer, and a great granddaughter, Kali Ponto.
Services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at Gundrum Funeral Home. Officiating the services will be Father Mike McKinney.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 09, 2012 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm at Gundrum Funeral Home.
Burial, with full military rites, will be in the St. Johns cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Emmaus Mission Center.
Jaiden Randelle Lewellen
December 8, 2001 - January 9, 2012
LOGANSPORT — Jaiden Randelle Lewellen, 10, Logansport, died at 12:35 p.m. Monday, Jan. 9, 2012, at Peyton Manning’s Children’s Hospital, Indianapolis.
Born Dec. 8, 2001, in Logansport, she was the daughter of Patrick W. Lewellen and Amie Dillon.
Jaiden loved music and eating ice cream with her dad.
Surviving are her parents, Logansport; sisters, Nicole Allman and Jessica Rhodes and husband, Kyle, all of Logansport; maternal grandfather, Thomas Dillon and wife, Rhonda, Bringhurst; paternal grandfather, Eugene F. Lewellen, Logansport; paternal grandmother, Martha Bowyer and husband, Sherman, Camden; maternal great-grandmother, Jesse Fleming, Lafayette; paternal great-grandmother, Helen Bowyer, Walton; and one nephew, Blaize Allman.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Alicia Fleming; and one aunt, Danielle Fleming.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Gundrum Funeral Home with Pastor Fred Drye officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Peyton Manning’s Children’s Hospital.
Charles P. Schaefer
May 11, 1931 - January 15, 2012
Charles P. Schaefer, 80, Logansport, died at 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 15, 2012, at WoodBridge Health Campus.
Born May 11, 1931, in Logansport, he was the son of Wayne R. and Mary Flynn Schaefer. He was married
Aug. 23, 1957, in Logansport, to Henrietta M. Thompson.
Chuck was an accountant for General Tire & Rubber Company in Wabash, Peru and Logansport.
He was a 1949 graduate of Logansport High School and a 1953 graduate of Indiana University. Chuck was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving in Korea, retiring as a major in the Air Force Reserves.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, BPO Elks 66, VFW Post 3790, American Legion Post 60 and Sigma Nu Fraternity, and he was a Director Emeritus of Cass County Historical Society.
Chuck was a collector of Lionel trains, researched his German genealogy and enjoyed singing in the church choir.
Surviving are wife, Henrietta T. Schaefer, Logansport; son, Charles T. Schaefer and wife, Catherine, Naperville, Ill.; daughters, Patricia S. Reilly and husband, Michael, San Jose, Calif., and Lucinda H. Hoffman and husband, Jacob, Nappanee; grandchildren, Nathaniel B. Schaefer, Abigail J. Schaefer, Madeline H. Hoffman, Andrew S. Hoffman, and Evan S. Reilly; cousins, Samuel C. Butler and wife, Sally, New York, N.Y., Jane B. Kahle and husband, Floyd Nordland, Broomfield, Colo., and Anne B. Hoover and husband, Robert, Indianapolis; sister-in-law, Barbara N. Thompson, West Baden Springs; niece, Chris-Anna Thompson and husband, Jami Musia; and nephew, Zachary Thompson.
He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, James M. Thompson.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. Dean Fager officiating. Burial will be in Mount Hope cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Gundrum Funeral Home and one hour before services Thursday at the church.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or Cass County Historical Society.
Betty Lou Lease
January 10, 1930 - January 20, 2012
Betty Lou Lease, 82, Lucerne, passed away at 10:55 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, 2012 at Logansport Memorial Hospital.
She was born Jan. 10, 1930, in Lucerne, to Donald Herd and Katie Eikelberner.
She was married
Oct. 31, 1948, at Zion Methodist Parsonage in Lucerne, to Harry Bud Lease, who survives.
Betty was a farmer. She was also a cook for the Caston School Corporation for 29 years.
A 1948 graduate of Lucerne High School, Betty was a member of the Lucerne Zion United Methodist Church and the 20th Century Extension Homemakers Club. She also enjoyed mowing her yard as well as flower and vegetable gardening.
Surviving are husband, Harry Bud Leas, Lucerne; daughters, Candy English and husband, Gary, Lafayette, Barb Troyer and husband, Larry, Twelve Mile, and Judy Kellems and husband, Jack, Lucerne; grandchildren, Bill English, Emily Goertemoeller, Amanda Offutt, Joseph Troyer, David Cooley and Darla Leavell; three great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Herd and wife, Phyllis, Lucerne; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Lease.
Services are 11 a.m. Tuesday at Gundrum Funeral Home, with the Rev. George Hapner officiating. Burial will be at Indian Creek Christian cemetery, Lucerne.
Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Hope Hospice.
Patricia A. Fite
July 3, 1943 - January 21, 2012
Patricia A. Fite, 68, Camden, passed away at 11:03 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012, at Indiana University Health, Lafayette.
She was born July 3, 1943, in Wabash to Roger Airgood and Loretta Callegan.
Patricia was married
in June 1964, to Robert L. Pavlick, who preceded her in death Sept. 10, 1992. On Dec. 4, 1999, she married
Richard L. Fite in Lafayette. He survives.
She was secretary and treasurer of Fite’s Automotive and Fite’s Construction.
Patricia was a member of Camden Methodist Church, Logansport Shrine Club Niddee Guild and Rossville Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are husband Richard L. Fite, Camden; stepdaughter Sheila Fite, Englewood, Ohio; sisters Nancy Mattox, Delphi, and Pam Beneker and husband Lowell, Brookville; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are 6 p.m. Tuesday at Gundrum Funeral Home, with Pastor Ed Selvidge officiating. Burial will be in Fairview cemetery, Servia. Visitation is 3 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. There will be an Eastern Star Service at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to the Shrine Hospitals For Children.
Wilda A. Rodgers
April 28, 1916 - January 31, 2012
Wilda A. Rodgers, 95, Lucerne, died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2012, at Millers Merry Manor, Logansport. She was born April 28, 1916, in Logansport, to Clark and Edith (Nickels) Davidson. On Sept. 1, 1939, in Clay Township, she married
Albert M. Rodgers, who preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1993. Wilda was a homemaker and had formerly worked at the public library and Montgomery Wards. She was very active in the Logansport Rose Society, Bethlehem Township Home Economics Club and the women’s group at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church. She also enjoyed bird watching, crocheting, reading, traveling, and taking care of her garden and rose beds. She also enjoyed family gatherings. She is survived by a daughter, Anita Delight Conn and husband Phil, Logansport; sons, Milton D. Rodgers and wife Pat, Burlington, and William L. Rodgers and wife Lynne, Kokomo; grandsons, John Conn and wife Jana, Burlington, Jeff Rodgers and wife Traci, Indianapolis, Scott Rodgers and wife Danielle, Indianapolis, and Brad Rodgers, Los Angeles, Calif.; granddaughters, Edith Gage and husband Ryan, Eureka, S.D., and Lindsay (Rodgers) Proctor and husband Josh, Chicago, Ill.; great-grandsons, Cameron Conn, Burlington, and Noah Rodgers, Indianapolis; and great-granddaughters, Rebekah Conn, Burlington, Amanda Gage, Eureka, S.D., and Rachel Gage, Eureka, S.D. She was preceded in death by one sister, Delores Studebaker. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, 5588 N. Ind. 25, Logansport, with Pastor William F. Kleymann officiating. Burial will be in Metea Baptist cemetery, Metea. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Gundrum Funeral Home, 1603 E. Broadway, Logansport, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. Barbara E. James
April 15, 1919 - February 1, 2012
Barbara E. James, 92, Logansport, died at 4 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2012, at The Arbor by Miller’s Merry Manor in Logansport.
Born April 15, 1919, in Monticello, she was the daughter of Bill Griffin and Hazel Simons. She was married
Nov. 8, 1940, in Lafayette, to John O. James, who preceded her in death Jan. 10, 1986.
Barbara was formerly employed at SS Kresge Department Store, Arlan’s Department Store, the Golden Rule and Happy Burger West.
She also had worked for Area Five.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the YMCA.
Barbara was an avid artist.
Surviving are daughters, Judy Berkshire and husband, Charlie, and Valerie Fromelius and husband, Peter, all of Logansport; son, Dennis James, Binghamton, N.Y.; half-sister, Bambi Fleming and husband, Michael, Fishers; seven grandchildren, Brian James, Brent James, Shaun Kreighbaum, Tracy Benson, Andrew Benson, Scott Benson and Jerri Ann Hayes; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sisters.
Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Larry DeVos officiating.
Friends may call one hour before services Tuesday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
Gundrum Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
