George Thomas Edwards
August 28, 1921 - February 13, 2012
George Thomas Edwards, 90, of Brazil, passed away February 13, 2012 following a short illness with his family by his side.
George was born August 28, 1921 the son of George and Anna (Syster) Edwards. He enlisted with the United States Army in 1942 and served three years in European tour. Some of the decorations he received were: American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, and Victory Medal World War II. Upon returning he married
Elmora Maxine Hayes on December 24, 1945. George worked for the Plainfield Correctional Facility, where he retired in 1984.
George was an avid gardener, loved being in the outdoors, and especially spending time with his cat and a bird.
George was preceded in death by his parents; George and Anna; sister: Hannah Reba; brother: William Edwards.
He is survived by: his wife: Elmora Maxine; Son: Jack Edwards; Daughter: Harriet Guinther and husband James of Staunton; Grandson: Michael Long and wife Sarah of Brazil, Darin Long and wife Christine of Nolensville, TN, JD Edwards of Brazil, Brad Edwards of Brazil; granddaughter: Melissa Kline and husband Billy of Brazil; great grandchildren: Corbin, Nick, Evan, Allie, Nathan, Drew, Thomas, Devon, Shelby, Bradley, Carson, and Lauren; great great grandchildren: Kaydence and Nolan.
Service will be Friday February 17, 2012 at 7:00 pm with Larry Richmond officiating. Visitation will be at 4:00pm until the time of service.
Paul Dixon Proctor Jr.
April 04, 1958 - February 05, 2012
Paul Dixon Proctor, Jr., 53 of Cookeville, Tennessee, formerly of Brazil, passed away Sunday, February 5th, 2012. He was born April 4, 1958 to Paul Dixon Proctor Sr. and Dorothy (Coomer) Proctor in Clay County.
He graduated from Brazil High School class of 1977. He then attended Indiana State University and later in life he received a degree in Special Education from Tennessee Tech University. He was a wrestler who qualified for the Olympic Trials in 1980. Paul served in the Marines for two years and then in the Army National Guard. He worked for Banker’s Life and Casualty as a Regional Vice President. Above all things his family was most important, he enjoyed spending time with them and making memories.
He was preceded in death by his brother Bobby Joe Proctor.
Survivors include his mother Dottie Proctor, father and step-mother Paul Proctor Sr. and Phyllis Proctor, fiancé Gayla Thompson Darnell; children, Jenica Becklund and husband Casey of Blytheville, AR, Justin Proctor and fiancé Laura Brown of Fayetteville, AR, Hailey Proctor of Cookeville, TN, Hope Warta and husband Jesse of Cookeville, TN and Joseph Proctor of Cookeville, TN; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Ashley and Lindsey Becklund; sister Cathy Proctor Hunter and husband Roy of Brazil, IN and niece Hannah Hunter.
Visitation will be at the French Funeral Home Thursday from 11-1. Services will be held Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 1:00pm at the funeral home with Pastor Rick Wetnight officiating. Burial will be held at Clearview cemetery.
Melvin E. Turner
November 23, 1911 - February 04, 2012
Melvin E. Turner, 100, of Brazil, passed away at Cloverleaf Health Care, in Knightsville, February 4, 2012.
Melvin was born in Hoosierville, IN November 23, 1911 the son of Samuel and Anna Turner. Melvin graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1929. After high school Melvin worked in Chicago at Western Electric. He also worked for the New York Rail Road Big Four. Melvin began working for Public Service Indiana in 1940 retiring in 1974.
Melvin was a loyal member of Cross Lane Community Church in Terre Haute.
Melvin enjoyed gardening and wood carving.
Melvin was preceded in death by his wife of 74 years Mae Turner.
He is survived by his son Melvin T. Turner (Jeannine) of Anderson, IN; two daughters Anna Reed (Don) of Nashville, IN and Loraine Decker (Bob) of Brazil; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Services will be at French Funeral Home, Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at 1:00pm with Pastor Dick McShanog officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 11am until time of services.

Sarah E. Schnurpel
April 06, 1936 - February 08, 2012
Sarah E. Schnurpel, 75, of Terre Haute, and formerly of Brazil, passed away at Union Hospital February 8, 2012 following a lengthy illness.
She was born as one of 13 children, on April 6, 1936, in Brazil, IN the daughter of Edward Lee and Ethel (Crabb) McKinney. Sarah attended Bee Ridge School and married
Russell Eugene Schnurpel Sr. December 23, 1950. Sarah devoted her life to raising her family. She was a wonderful cook and a talented poet. She used to use music to teach her family “life lessons”. She and her husband Russell loved traveling having spent time in California and New Mexico.
She was preceded in death by her parents Edward and Ethel McKinney; husband Russell Schnurpel; siblings: Helen Smith, Beatrice “Minnie” McKinney, Helen Louise Craig, James McKinney, Robert McKinney, Carl McKinney, Harry McKinney, Johnny McKinney, Anna Mary Dickison and Clifford McKinney, sisters-in-law Mary Lou Schnurpel and Shirley Schnurpel; special brother-in-law Kenneth Balding.
Sarah is survived by her 5 children: Russell Schnurpel Jr. of Terre Haute, Janet Schnurpel Recknor, Charles Schnurpel (Marty) of Arizona, Rhonda White (Chris) of Missouri and Larry Schnurpel (Sonya) of Alabama; 14 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren; sisters Maudie Dickison and a brother George McKinney; brothers-in-law Charles Schnurpel (Carol) and James Schnurpel (Jan); sister-in-law Barbara (Gerber) Schnurpel; special sister Jackie Balding and her family as well as a large extended family.
Services will be at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil, IN 47834, Saturday, February 11, 2012, at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home, Saturday, from 11am until time of services.
Gregory L. Hendrix
March 06, 1959 - September 16, 2004
Gregory L. Hendrix, 45 of Brazil, died September 16, 2004 at his residence. He was born March 6, 1959 in Terre Haute, the son of Carl Lee Hendrix and Mary Jane Williams Hendrix.
He married
Teresa Warrum Hendrix December 17, 1982, she survives. He had worked for the Vigo County School Corporation for 21 years as a custodian at Terre Haute South High School. He enjoyed fishing, watching football and being with family at home.
He is survived by his wife; son John Hendrix; daughter Ashley Hendrix and fiancé Ryan Fry; granddaughter Kahla; two brothers, Michael Hendrix and wife Melinda of Nashville, TN; Jesse Hendrix of Chicago; one sister in law, Jennifer Hendrix of Terre Haute; nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Curt Hendrix.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 7:00pm at French Funeral Home with Rev. Merrill Weir officiating. Friends may call from 5-7pm. At his request, cremation will take place with burial of the ashes at a later date.
Irene Amerman

Irene Miller Amerman, 84, of Center Point passed away September 15, 2004 in the Holly Hills Health Care facility.
She was born July 6, 1920 in Owen County the daughter of James and Gladys Crist Miller.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Clay City First United Methodist Church, Jolly Neighbors Home-Ec Club, Clay City American Legion Auxiliary, Clay City VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Clay City Order of the Eastern Star. Mrs. Amerman was preceded in death by her husband Verne, 2 grandsons, Baby Boy Amerman and Clint Amerman and a brother Kenneth Miller. Survivors include a son, Bob Amerman and wife Kathie of Clay City; a daughter, Jan Howell and husband Roger of Center Point; 4 brothers, Chester Miller and wife Sue of Indianapolis, Glenn Miller and wife Ruth of Clay City, Rex Miller and wife Lois of Jasonville and Paul Miller and wife Marilyn of San Clemente, California; 4 sisters, Maxine Riggs and husband Rex of Coal City, Phyllis Huber and husband Ernie of Terre Haute, Shirley Graham and husband Don of Cloverdale and Judy Johnson and husband Bob of Terre Haute; 3 Grandchildren, Jacquie Amerman of Clay City, Claire Boggs and husband James of Terre Haute and Kimberly Howell of Bloomington; 2 Great Grandchildren, Zoey and Gavin Boggs of Terre Haute.
Services will be 10 AM, Saturday, September 18 2004 in the Schoppenhorst Funeral Home in Clay City with Pastor John Like officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM, Friday, September 17, 2004 in the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.
David W. Stinson

David W. Stinson, 60 of Brazil, passed away at his home, September 14, 2004 at 8:30pm.
He was born May 6, 1944 in Brazil, the son of Warren Stinson and Laura Agnes Ball Stinson. He graduated from Brazil High School, Class of 1962. As a young man he worked for Stinson’s Garage, then Baysinger’s Machine Shop. He later formed his own business known as Stinson’s Machine Shop. He last worked as a machinist for Deakins Metal Spinning, retiring in 2002. He was well known for his gun-smithing ability and woodworking. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being out of doors.
He is survived by his wife Christina Rosa Zentko Stinson, whom he married
October 6, 1997; his children, Brian Stinson and his wife Susan, Dawn Stinson all of Brazil and Lori Fields and husband Troy of Carbon; step-son James Zentko and wife Cassie of Brazil; 8 grandchildren, Elijah Stinson, Emily Stinson, Caleb Mason, Kaylee Mason, Megan Mason, Travis Fields Dominic Fields and Dylan Zentko; one aunt Pat Stinson of Brazil; several nieces, nephews and a large extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; his wife Jannette Goshen Stinson who passed away 1994.
Services will be held Friday at 11:00am at French Funeral Home with Rev. Dick McShanog officiating. Burial will follow at Calcutta cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8pm and again Friday prior to services.
Pallbearers will be Joe Lunsford, Bob Bedwell, Joe Rosa, Rick James, L.T. Clark, and Joe Davidson.
The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Hospice of the Wabash Valley, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Anna Mary Lash

Anna Mary Lash, 84, Brazil, passed away at 10:35 a.m., Tuesday, August 24, at Cloverleaf Healthcare in Knightsville.
Born in Brazil on March 14, 1920, her parents were Charles Bolin and Leatha Williams Bolin.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed quilting,embroidery, and being with her family.
She also was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Karen Mullenix and husband Joe, Brazil; and Marvena Branson and friend Frank, Brazil; three grandchildren, Gary and wife Nicole Branson, Kari and husband David Osborne and Tina and husband Robert Davis; seven great-grandchildren, Laciee, Haylee and Shawn Davis, Sarah Osborne, Kirsten, Matthew and Dalton Branson, all of Brazil and other extended family members.
Preceding her in death were her husbands, Marvin Ray Lash and Donald R. Lash, one son, Robert Ray Lash who died as a child, one brother, Cleon Bolin and one sister, Juanita Tunin.
Graveside services will be held at Van Cleve cemetery on Thursday, August 26 at 10:00 a.m.
Melvin R. Lucas
January 13, 1939 - August 23, 2004
Melvin R. Lucas, 65, of Terre Haute, formerly of Staunton, died at 3:30 a.m. Monday, August 23, 2004, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. Born in Brazil on January 13, 1939, his parents were Melvin and Doris Watts Lucas Berry. He was a 1957 graduate of Staunton High School. For 30 years he was employed at AMAX Corp., south of Staunton. He retired in 1995 as a mine supervisor.
An avid race fan, he was associated with the motor racing team of Tony Bettenhausen Jr., until Bettenhausen and his wife were killed in a plane crash.
He was a member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Terre Haute, American Legion Post 2 in Brazil, the 20-year Club of AMAX Corp, of which he was currently president, the Indianapolis 500 Old Timers Club, Staunton Baseball League, Indiana High School Athletic Association, for which he was a basketball referee, and a life member of Brazil BPO Elks Lodge 762. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving from 1961-1963.
Survivors include his wife, Connie Barden Rilenge Lucas, whom he married
October 10, 1998; three children, Krystal Rilenge, Keyla Rilenge, and Benjamin Rilenge, all at home; a sister Marilyn J. Chrisman of Terre Haute, his father-in law and mother-in-law, LeRoy and Betty Barden of Sullivan; a brother-in-law, Calvin Barden and wife Julie, of Lewis; a sister-in-law, Sue Moeller of Evansville; several nieces, nephews and cousins; two great-nieces, and three great-nephews.
Preceding him in death was his stepfather Russell J. Berry.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday in Miller Memorial Chapel with Father Joseph Kernen officiating. Veterans from American Legion and VFW posts will conduct military rites following the services. Burial will follow in Center Ridge cemetery in Sullivan. Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday prior to the funeral.
