Betty Boyce Castner
November 30, 1936 - January 08, 2010
Betty Boyce Castner, 73, of Brazil, passed away at her residence January 8, 2010 following a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
She was born, in Brazil, on November 30, 1936, to Roy and Emma (Rader) Boyce and resided in the same residence throughout her entire life. Betty graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1956. She married
Wayne Castner on June 8, 1963. Later she graduated from Indiana State University with a Bachelors Degree in 1967 and a Masters Degree in 1969 in Art Education. Betty taught Art at Plainfield High School for several years and later decided to be a full time wife and mother. She had many passions in life including spending time with her family and many pets, drawing, painting, traveling and swimming. She had great compassion for animals and could never turn a stray away. She will be deeply missed by her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother Kenneth Boyce.
Survivors include her husband Wayne; daughter Dawn Castner – Rector and husband David of Brazil and a sister Lucille Bennett of Indianapolis.
At her request cremation has been scheduled. Private services may be held at a later date.

Clare Oberholtzer Fischer
August 17, 1917 - January 05, 2010
Clare (Oberholtzer) Fischer (age 92) passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2010 at the Oaks Retirement Facility in Bessemer Alabama after a long illness.
Clare was born near Patricksburg (Owen County), Indiana on August 17, 1917, one of six children born to Benjamin Elder and Emma (Mutchler) Oberholtzer (both deceased).
She was married
to Ernest G (Buck) Fischer (deceased) and is survived by a brother, Ernest Oberholtzer and his wife Betty (Spencer, IN); sons Ernest Alan (Glennie, Michigan), Marvin and his wife Georgianna (Bessemer, Alabama) and Dale and his wife Elisa (Columbia, Maryland); 6 Granddaughters, 3 Grandsons and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Clare was a graduate of Patricksburg, IN High School and received both BA and MA degrees in Education from Indiana State University, Terre Haute, IN. She was a teacher for over 40 years, including over 25 years as a speech and hearing therapist and supervisor in the Indianapolis Public Schools. Upon her retirement in 1983 she received the “Sagamore of the Wabash” award from the Governor of Indiana for her distinguished and dedicated service to the special needs school children of Indianapolis.
She attended First United Methodist Church and belonged to various social, professional and service organizations in Plainfield, IN, prior to moving to Alabama in 2005.
A Memorial service has been scheduled at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home in Clay City, IN. and will be held next month, on Sunday, February 14, 2010 at 2:00 PM.

Robert "Gravel" Rood
October 12, 1950 - February 04, 2012
Robert “Gravel” Rood, 61, of Clay City, passed away at Regional Hospital, February 4, 2012.
He was born in Muncie, IN October 12, 1950 the son of Dallas J. Rood Jr. and Martha (Byrd) Rood. Robert graduated from Marengo High School with the class of 1969. Most of his life Robert worked in construction as a welder and a laborer. He was a member of the Laborers Union 741 in Bloomington. Most recently he had been working with his brothers and nephew at Rogers Group INC.
Robert had enjoyed his years of retirement spending time with his granddaughters, fishing, and riding his Harley Davidson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Robert is survived by his daughter April Pearson and husband Matt of Lawrenceburg, IN, son Tim Fassold of Lawrenceburg, IN; granddaughter Ayla Pearson and Sophia Fassold; sister Paula VanSickle (Paul) of Clay City; brothers: Dewayne Rood (Toni) of Clay City and Timothy L. Rood of Clay City as well as several nieces and nephews and extended family members.
Memorial services will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, Friday February 10, 2012 at 5:00pm with Pastor Steve Wingert officiating. Friends are welcome to greet the family Friday from 3:00pm until time of services.
Marilynn J. Dragan
July 22, 1926 - February 08, 2012
Marilynn J. Dragan, 85, of Knightsville, formerly of Mansfield, IN passed away February 8, 2012 at Cloverleaf Health Care following an extended illness.
Marilynn was born in Chicago, IL July 22, 1926, the daughter of Rocco and Agetha (Jorgunson) Melillo. She married
Andrew Dragan soon after graduating from Fenger High School in 1944. They spent most of their life in Chicago, Illinois and moved to Parke County, Indiana in 1971. Marilynn spent her life as a homemaker. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, sewing and was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs Baseball Team.
Marilynn was preceded in death by her husband in 1999 and a sister Doris Nordstrom.
She is survived by her son Randy Dragan (Mary) of Brazil; grandson Christopher Dragan of Chicago, Illinois and granddaughter Jennifer Dragan of Evansville, IN.
At her request cremation services have been entrusted to Lawson-Miller Chapel.
Daniel Warren Myers
March 12, 1921 - February 10, 2012
Daniel Warren Myers, 90 passed away February 10, 2012 at 9:02am at Union Hospital.
He was born March 12, 1921 in Clay County the son of Henry Daniel Myers and Ruth Thomas Myers. Following high school, he served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the Pacific Theater for 3 and one half years.
In his work career, he first was at Arketex and then later he worked for Eastern Express in the office working in the computer department. He also worked at CBS before they moved offices to Georgia. He last worked as a correctional officer at the Putnamville Correctional Facility.
He and Mary Lou Rollings Myers were united in marriage on October 30, 1948.
Daniel was a devoted member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He enjoyed working in his yard and keeping everything in good repair. He also was an avid Cubs Fan. His number one priority was family and he will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his wife Mary Lou; daughter Karen Purdy of Brownsburg; son Gregory Myer and wife Gertrude of New Orleans; grandchildren, Benjamin Purdy, Andy Purdy and wife Lisa, Nicholas Purdy, Daniel Purdy, Jason Myers and Adrienne Myers; one great-grandson, Chase Purdy; sisters in law, Eva Myers and Delores Myers Haddon of Brazil; nieces and nephews and other extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Marshall Fred Myers and Howard Myers and an infant granddaughter, Laura Purdy.
Services will be held Monday at 1:00pm at French Funeral Home with Pastor Jason Selby officiating. Burial will follow at Cottage Hill cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 10-1.
Donations may be made to the Calvary Baptist Church or to the House of Hope. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
William Mitchell Price
March 18, 1993 - February 05, 2012
W. Mitchell Price, 18 of Knightsville, formerly of Cloverdale, died February 5, 2012 at his residence.
He was born March 18, 1993 in Clay County the son of William Darin Price and Laura L. Waugh. As a little boy he played CYL football, YMCA basketball, and baseball. He played freshman basketball and baseball while in school at Cloverdale. He loved being outside, fishing, hunting and riding four wheelers. For the past few years he had been playing golf as well. He worked at the Clover Meadows Golf Course in Cloverdale last year. He graduated from Northview High School, Class of 2011. He enjoyed going to watch the games at NHS and had a close group of friends at both Northview and at Cloverdale. He was currently attending Vincennes University.
He was preceded in death by his Great-grandma Louise Martin “Nanny”.
Survivors include his mother Laura Waugh (Mark Kybuiz) of Knightsville; his dad Darin Price of Cloverdale; grandparents, Tom and Ellen Waugh of Terre Haute, and Bill and Julina Price of Cloverdale; brother Tyler Price, sister Nicole Nicoson fiancé Dwight Riggen, Derek Nicoson; aunts and uncle, Kelly Price, Derick Price, Stephanie Bollinger (Charlie); many cousins and a host of friends.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Price, Derek Nicoson, Chris Arnold, Trent Montague, Cam Lumsdon and Chayne Bollinger. Light a
Services will be held Thursday at 11:00am at Lawson-Miller Chapel with Pastor Jerry Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Cloverdale cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4-8pm also at Lawson-Miller, 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil.

Claudia J. Hall
July 09, 1942 - February 04, 2012
Claudia Hall, 69, of Brazil, passed away on February 4, 2012, at Exceptional Living Center, in Brazil, where she had been a resident for the past three years.
She was born in Indianapolis, IN on July 9, 1942, to Harry G. and Phoebe “Jane” (Cooksey) Irvin. On August 6, 1971, she married
Jackie E. Hall in the Second Armored Division Chapel by an Army Chaplain at Fort Hood, TX. She was a Floral Designer by trade and was last employed at Miller Flower Shop in Terre Haute until her health forced her to retire. She spent her teen years in Florida and graduated from Lake Worth, Florida High School in 1960 and graduated from Palm Beach Junior College with a degree in Commercial Art Design and Layout. She gave private lessons in Macramé and floral designing. She was a master Gardner and a Landscape Design Critic.
Her memberships included life member of National Garden Clubs, life member of The Garden Club of Indiana, Indianapolis garden club, life member and past President of VFW Post 1127 Ladies Auxiliary, life member of American Legion Post 2 Ladies Auxiliary, Eagles Aerie 274 Ladies Auxiliary.
Besides her husband she is survived by her son Brian (Trish) Pritchard, her daughter Lynda G. (Ed) McAuliffe, granddaughter Maggie J. Brown, grandson William Powell, and great grandson Carter M. Weaver. One aunt Patricia Wardell and one special cousin Tam Wardell, sister Harrietta Wagner, two nieces and several cousins.
Services will be at French Funeral Home, Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 1:00pm. Burial will follow at Clearview cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Tuesday from 5-8pm.

Norris Andrew Lockman
March 16, 1931 - February 09, 2012
Norris Andrew Lockman, age 80. Born March 16, 1931 and died February 9, 2012. He was born in Floyd Knobs, Indiana to Kenneth and Edna Lockman. He was preceded in death by both parents and sisters Lydia McWhirter and Laura Pritchett.
He graduated from Georgetown High School in 1950 and joined the Army after graduation. He served his country by serving in Germany as a medic. Through the GI Bill Norris was able to attend Olivet University, in Kankakee, Ill.in 1957, earning his Bachelors in Education; and Masters of Education from Indiana State University in 1958. Norris’ love of education continued by earning grants and scholarships so he could attend other universities including Hope College, Holland, Mi., Purdue University, Lafayette, In., University of Notre Dame, South Bend, In., and Indiana University of South Bend.
Norris joined the staff of South Bend Community School Corporation in 1958 at Washington-Clay teaching physics, chemistry and biology. Later in his career he taught Earth Science, after earning various additional certificates. After 34 years of teaching he retired and moved to Cory, In. in 1992 to be closer to family.
Norris married
the love of his love and life partner Wilma (Halt) Lockman on June 7, 1957, in Cory, Indiana at the Cory Church of the Nazarene. His wife, Wilma survives, along with his children, Darla (Otis) Wilson of South Bend, David Lockman of Cory, grandson Austin Lockman of South Bend, brother Cecil Lockman and sister Lelah Herman both of Floyd Knobs, In., and many nieces and nephews. While Norris and Wilma lived in South Bend, Norris served on the Church Board and treasurer at South Bend First Nazarene and the Church Board in Cory.
During his retirement Norris enjoyed both his vegetable and flower gardens, as well as traveling to Florida and visiting with friends and family in different areas of the state. His other hobby was reading and you could always find him with something in his hands. He showed his love for God and family every day that he was with us.
French Funeral Home of Brazil, In. has been entrusted to arrangements. The viewing will be held on Monday, February 13 from 4pm-7pm at Cory Church of the Nazarene, and funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 14 at 1pm at the Cory Church of the Nazarene. Interment will be at Oak Hill cemetery, Riley, Indiana following services.
David Hunter
May 07, 1918 - February 08, 2012
David G. Hunter, 93 of Brazil passed away February 8, 2012 at Cobblestone Crossing.
He was born May 7, 1918 in Clay County the son of John “Stick “Hunter and Mae Comparon Hunter. He graduated from Brazil High School and lived all his life in Brazil. He started work at an early age with a small wagon delivering newspapers for the Brazil Times. He later worked at Bedwell Tire. Dave and his brother Jack Hunter built and co-owned Hunter Tire Service and later Dave began his own company known as Hunter Oil Co. Inc. where he worked for over 65 years as a Phillips 66 Petroleum jobber.
Dave was always active in his community and belonged to various organizations including Exchange Club, Elks Lodge, VFW#1127, 40/8 Club, Scottish Rite Valley of Terre Haute, and American Legion Post #2. He was very active in the American Legion post, serving as Commander of the Color Honor guard for many years. He was also the last man of his Last Mans ritual club.
Mr. Hunter served as Mayor of Brazil from 1980-1984. He was very proud to have served as mayor and worked hard to improve the city of Brazil.
Dave was a devoted member of the First Christian Church and had served as a trustee, deacon and elder for many years.
Dave married
the love of his life, Margueritte Miller Hunter on December 24, 1941. Just a few weeks after their marriage he began service to his country in the U.S. Army in the European Theater during WWII.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Mae Hunter; his beloved wife Margueritte passed away in 1988; one brother Jack Hunter and one sister Florence Hill.
Survivors include his daughter and son in law, Suzy and John Kyle of Terre Haute; three grandsons, John David “J.D” Kyle and wife Amy of Greenwood, IN, Jason R. Kyle of Fishers, IN, and Kraig A. Kyle of Dallas, TX; two great-grandchildren, Ashley E. Kyle and Landon O. Kyle; one nephew Jack R. Hunter and a great-nephew, J.B. Hunter of Brazil.
Services will be held Monday at 11:00am at Lawson-Miller Chapel, 1702 E. National Ave. Brazil with Pastor Chris Gregg officiating. Burial will follow at Summit Lawn with military graveside honors. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-8 and again Monday prior to services.
Donations may be made to the First Christian Church or to a memorial of choice.
