Lucy Jane (Hummel) Presswood, 84, of Lewis, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2013.
Jane was born February 3, 1929 in Clay County, the daughter of the late David and Lucy (Case) Hummel. She graduated from Coalmont High School in 1937. Jane married
the love of her life Robert “Bob” Presswood on July 26, 1960.
Jane was a member of Friendly Grove Baptist Church. In her free time she enjoyed sewing, gardening, and crocheting.
Jane is preceded in death by her parents; son: Jerry Ricketts; grandson: Larry Ricketts II; brothers and sisters: Cecil, Loren, Mary, Sammy, Harlan, Gerald, David.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years Robert E Presswood; sons: Larry Ricketts and wife Denise, Mark Presswood Sr; daughter: Sharon K Hammond and husband John; grandchildren: Troy Ricketts, Jason Carpenter, Beth Horton and husband Brad, Mark Presswood Jr, Marlana A Presswood; great grandchildren: Jessica Ricketts, Trevor Ricketts, Joe Ricketts; as well as many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Services will be Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 1pm at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home with Pastor Jason M Hill officiating. Burial will follow at Friendly Grove cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 11am until the time of service at the funeral home.
Larry Wayne Harstine
May 18, 1945 - January 04, 2010
Larry Wayne Harstine, 64 left his family’s loving arms to be with the Lord at 3:32 AM on January 4, 2010 at St. Vincent Seton Hospital in Indianapolis.
He was born to James and Opal Shidler Harstine on May 18, 1945. He was born in Brazil and raised in Clay City.
He graduated from Clay City High School, Class of 1963.
He married
Dianna Lynn Royer, his high school sweetheart on October 22, 1966. Larry and Dianna were constant companions over the next 43 years. Rarely was there a time when the two were not together, whether traveling, dining out, or relaxing at home.
Larry and Dianna enjoyed being with their two daughters Lori Ann Harstine Moon and Amy Lynn Harstine Ennen. Larry protected, supported and loved Lori and Amy every day of his life. A new source of love entered Larry’s life with the birth of his granddaughter Katie Marie Moon in 1992. From that moment on Larry was the best “Pa” in the world. Larry never missed an event in which Katie participated. Volleyball quickly became the love of both Katie and Pa. Pa never missed a game and was Katie’s biggest fan. Larry enjoyed the addition of a son in law, Brad Ennen in 2006. With whom he shared his love of guitars and music. Larry had a huge heart for the two grand-puppies, Manley and Joey.
Larry enjoyed family vacations to Gulf Shores, AL, being on of his favorites. His quirky sense of humor kept his family and friends laughing. Larry had a special, loving relationship with his mother in law, Peggy Latham, and his father in law Robert Royer. His newest pastime was his Mini Cooper, known as “his baby”, which no one but Dianna was allowed to drive.
Larry was a member of the Terre Haute First Baptist Church and in years past he had enjoyed playing on the church league softball team. He was a past member of the Clay City F AM Lodge #85. He was a member of the Air National Guard based in Terre Haute. He attended an Indianapolis Technical School for data processing information. Larry was currently working at Sony DADC as a Systems Administrator, and had worked there for 15 years. He had worked for R.H. Donnelly in Terre Haute and for EDS in Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife, Dianna; daughters Lori Moon and Amy Ennen (Brad) all of Terre Haute; granddaughter, Katie Moon; his special mother in law, Peggy Latham of Brazil and father in law, Robert Royer of Clay City; sisters in law, Robin Royer Royce (James), Tammy Royer Morse (Joel); a special nephew Eric Morse and special niece Kiley McCrary; other nephews, cousins and extended family.
Services will be held Friday at 11:00am at the First Baptist Church, 4701 E. Poplar St. Terre Haute. Burial will follow at Maple Grove cemetery in Clay City. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8pm at the church and again Friday morning one hour prior to services.
Louada L. White
August 14, 1931 - January 29, 2009
Louada L. White, 77, of Coal Cit died January 29, 2009 at St. Vincent Clay Hospital. She was born on August 14, 1931, in Clay County the daughter of Archie and Audrey Funk Horn.
She graduated from Clay City High School in 1950 and married
Hardy White on March 30, 1953. She was a homemaker, member and 4 times past president of the VFW Auxillary since 1963, member of senior citizens and American Legion.
She is survived by her husband Hardy; son, Vernon Keith White, Kansas; son and daughter in law, Bruce Kevin and Darlene White of Jacksonville, FL; daughter and son in law, Karen Darlene and Tim Poff of Lewis, IN; brother, Andy Tex Horn of Coal City and brother in law, Wayne Stantz; sister in law, Nina Horn of Clay City; 7 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 4 step great-grandchildren; 2 step great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Mary Kathryn Stantz; one brother, Walter Wayne Horn; and one sister in law, Nancy Horn.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home with Scott Wiley officiating. Burial will follow in Beech cemetery. Visitatation will be Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
Fay I. Elkin

Fay Elkin, 97, of Brazil, passed away at Clay County Health Center on January 27, 2009.
Fay was born to Arlie and Esther (Loudermilk) Willis on April 8, 1911 in Middlebury, IN in a one room house that stood until recently. She attended several one room schools in the Clay County area before graduating from Ashboro High School in 1931. The township did not provide transportation to anyone over 16 so Fay drove a Model T Ford hauling teachers and other students. She had many stories to tell about the perils of driving a Model T Ford, especially in the winter.
Fay graduated from Central Beauty College in Terre Haute and had a career in Terre Haute for many years before marrying Phil Elkin in 1943. Fay and Phil lived their lives on the Elkin farm in the Clay County Community where they farmed and were steadfast members of the Mt. Calvary Methodist Church. Fay, as she wished, was able to live independently in her home until after her 97th birthday. Fay was a strong role model for the women in her family in her independence, tenacity, strong will and love for her home.
Fay was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Phil in 1979, and, in recent years, her two beloved sisters, Irene Dierdorff and Roberla Stearley.
She is survived by daughters Sara Sprouse of Philadelphia, Donna Sprouse(Randy) of Denver, grandchildren Stephen(Kristin)of Kansas CIty, Stacey Schooley of Denver, Jeff Sprouse of Leadville, CO, Megan Kelly (Bill) of Trappe, PA and Tiffany Ulatowski (Joe) of Denver. She is survived by three great grandchildren: Kayleigh and Bradley Schooley and Eliza Sprouse. She is also survived by nephews Larry and Mark Dierdorff of Brazil and Mike Keller of Stevens Point, WI and a cousin Deneta Campbell of Brazil.
Services for Mrs. Elkin will be at French Funeral Home in Brazil, Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Van Cleve cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home Friday from 4-8pm and again Saturday from 7:30am until time of services on Saturday.
Elizabeth Ann Kouns
March 01, 1973 - January 30, 2009
Elizabeth “Liz” Ann Moore Kouns, 35 of Cory died January 30, 2009 at 2:28am at Union Hospital. She had been battling kidney failure and other illnesses for the past four years.
She was born March 1, 1973 in Plant City, FL, the daughter of Marilyn Moore. She was raised in Clay City and attended Clay City High School. She worked at Bob and Angie’s Restaurant and was a cook at the Country Junction for a time until she became too ill.
On October 25, 2003 she married
Stanley Wayne Kouns, II. She and Stanley lived for a time in Lebanon, but then moved back to Clay County. When she was younger, she enjoyed being out of doors, camping and fishing.
She was devoted to her dog, Tiny, and her cat. She was a fun loving and beloved daughter, wife, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her husband Stanley Kouns of Cory; her mother Marilyn Morris of Clay City; grandmother, Patricia Woollard of Clay City; mother in law, Bonnie Kouns of Lebanon; two sisters Maria Yates (Eric) of Clinton, and Destiny Dyer (Todd) of Clay City; sister in law, Tammy Frazier (Bret) of Lebanon; two aunts, Sandra Allen (Doug) of Center Point and Nancy Howald (Rod) of Brazil; Uncle Gary Moore (Donetta); brothers in law, Karl Kouns (Diane), Ivan Kouns(Connie), and Kenny Kouns (Lisa); seven nieces and nephews, Attika and Jeramiah Dyer, Desire, Jaid, Kathleen, Anthony, Eric Yates, Jr., Little Kenny, Little Karl, Timmy, Ben Frazier, Amber, Johanna, and Tamera; five cousins, Nicole, Kayleigh, Nicholas Allen and Whitney and Brandi Moore; and special friend Jessica Gorby.
She was preceded in death by grandfather Hubert Moore; Cousin Kendra Allen; father in law, Stanley Kouns, I; grandmother in law, Lucille Clinger and uncle in law, Steven Kouns, Sr.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11:00am at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Wiley officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8pm and again Wednesday prior to services.

John M. Fry
November 15, 1942 - January 29, 2009
John M. Fry, 66 of Linton, died January 29, 2009 at 4:10pm at his son’s residence in Dugger.
He was born November 15, 1942 in Clay County the son of George Fry and Doris Lucinda Michaels Fry. He traveled to the Chicago area as a young man and learned the trade of millwright. He worked at several manufacturing businesses.
John enjoyed hunting, fishing and tending to his vegetable garden. He also was a care giver to his son, John, Jr.
Survivors include the mother of his children, Emma Ellen Fry; his three sons, Johnny Fry, Jr, Jesse Fry (Wanda), of Linton, and Jack Fry (Paula)of Dugger; 6 grandchildren, Jessica Wright, Jesse Fry, Jr, Julia Fry, Jackie Markle, Joshua Whitman, and Kelsey Whitman; 3 great-grandchildren; five brothers, James Fry(RuthAnn), Warren Fry(Carolyn), Wayne Fry(Alice), George Fry(Dawn), Ray Fry(Sandy); 4 sisters, Barbara Peavler, Edna Thomas(Larry), Patricia Hughes(Lawrence), Nancy Richey(Bill), and a half sister Betty Page(Paul); many nieces, nephews and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother Dean Fry; an infant sister Dorothy Jean Fry; and his son, Ronald Lee Fry.
Services will be held Monday at 11:00am at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Hibbard officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7pm and again Monday prior to services.
Haley Jane Bryan
May 01, 1992 - January 01, 2010
Haley Jane Bryan, 17 of Clay City died January 1, 2010 at St. Vincent Clay Hospital emergency room.
She was born May 1, 1992 in Vigo County the daughter of William “Chip” Bryan, Jr. and Lisa Jane Griffith Bryan.
She has attended Clay City High School and was currently a junior. As a young girl she loved playing T-Ball, softball, volley ball, basketball and riding four wheelers. She also was a cheerleader in grade school, junior high and her freshman and sophomore years in high school.
Haley liked shopping, art class and was well known as a “social butterfly”. When she was in junior high school, she was saved at the Good Hope Baptist Church in Middlebury.
She was preceded in death by her father, Chip Bryan, February 4, 2008.
Survivors include her mother, Lisa Bryan of Clay City; her sister Jayci (Ben) Dickey of Clay City; grandparents, Bill and Barbara Bryan of Riley and Dewey and Louise Griffith of Branson, MO; great-grandmothers, Josephine Bryan of West Terre Haute, and Alene Haviland of Jasonville; many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be held Wednesday at 2pm at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Dickey officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill cemetery in Riley. Visitation will be Wednesday from 10-2. Pallbearers will include Tony Griffith, Christopher Bryan, Dusty Griffith, Braxton Griffith, Chad Miller, Bryan Miller, Riley Bryan, and Taylor Bryan.
In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to the Clay City High School, Art Club. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
Heather Rene`e Denny
December 10, 1977 - January 02, 2010
Heather Rene`e Denny, 32, Harmony, IN, passed away at 4:00am, January 2, 2010 at home, with her family and best friend by her side following a short battle with cancer.
She was born December 10, 1977 in Terre Haute, IN to Debra (Duncan) Duncan. She was married
for 12 years and had two beautiful children Jessie James Denny and Alexis Rene`e Denny. Heather enjoyed arrow head hunting and “treasure hunting” and spending time with friends and family.
She was preceded in death by her great grandparents Leona and Edward Duncan.
She is survived by her two children Jessie James and Alexis Rene`e; mother Debbie Duncan of Linton; ex-husband James Denny; former mother-in-law Mom Denny; step-father Jimmy Modesitt; father Edward Griffin; grandparents: Ronnie and Nete Morlan; aunt Kimmie Walker; uncle Mark Griffin of Pheonix, AZ; cousins: Shawna Duncan and Kayla Walker; best friend Kori Nevins as well as many extended family members and friends.
Services will be at French Funeral Home, Thursday, January 7, 2010, at Noon with Pastor Ernie Phillips officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Grove cemetery. Visitation will be at French Funeral Home, Thursday, January 7, 2010, from 11am-noon.
David William Flora

David William Flora, 31, of Clay City, passed away unexpectedly, January 5, 2010 at his residence.
He was born April 27, 1978 in Tarzana, California to William David and Ronnette Marie (Galarneau) Flora. He grew up in Colorado Springs, Colorado. David married
Danielle (Kirkling) Jenkins October 13, 2001 Clay City. Together he and Danielle owned and operated the Pizza Gallery in Clay City. He worked for U.S. Securities, at Staples Distribution, in Terre Haute for the past 3 years. He enjoyed fishing especially Jugging for catfish; watching football, Cubs Baseball and basketball. David also enjoyed coaching Clay City Youth League baseball for his step sons and traveling with Danielle’s sister and brother-in-law.
He is survived by his wife Danielle; two step sons Tyler and Tanner Jenkins; mother Ronnie Williams of Chicago, IL; father Bill Flora and wife Polly of Southern Florida; sisters Nicole “Nikki” Hepperle and husband Brian and Noelle Flora; a brother Matthew Flora and wife Charlie; step brothers Eric Nauert and Jason Nauert; as well as 6 nieces and 4 nephews.
A memorial service will be Friday January 8, 2010 at 3:00pm at First United Church of Christ 6414 S. Co. Rd. 300 E. Clay City, IN with Pastor Julie Western officiating. Visitation will be at the church Friday from 2:00pm until time of service. At his request cremation has been chosen. Schoppenhorst Funeral Home in Clay City has been entrusted with his care.
