Velma E. Dougal, 86, of Scott, Ohio, a former legal secretary, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at Vancrest Healthcare Center.
The Van Wert County native had worked for several lawyers and realtors and was also a homemaker. She was a member of Country Chapel United Methodist Church in Haviland and United Methodist Women, and a former member of Order of Eastern Star. Surviving are her husband, Harold N.; sons George A. of Paulding, James H. of Woodburn, Ind., and Jerry D. of Fort Wayne; a brother, Paul F. Schaadt of Van Wert; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Alspach-Gearhart Funeral Home, Van Wert, with calling from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday. Burial will be at Woodland cemetery, Van Wert. Memorials are to Scott EMS or North Union United Methodist Church.

William G. Fair
Bluffton - 1916-2003
William G. Fair, 86, of Bluffton, retired owner/operator of Bluffton Printery for 65 years, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
The Howe native retired at the age of 72 and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of American Legion Post 111 and First United Methodist Church, and a former member of the Lions Club. Surviving are his wife, Lucille; sons William L. of Bluffton and Richard C. of Indianapolis; a daughter, Barbara A. Oswalt of Bluffton; sisters Martha Green of Arlington, Ohio, Sarah Kepler of Plymouth and Rosie Snider of Greenville, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister. Services are 1 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Bluffton, with calling one hour before services. Calling is also from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Fairview cemetery, Bluffton. Memorials are to Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana or the American Cancer Society Wells County Unit.

Angola - 1924-2003
Charlotte G. Fee, 78, of Angola, a registered nurse, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at Lakeland Nursing Center. The Auburn native had worked for Dr. Alford, was a member of Steuben County Council on Aging and an early member of Parkinson's Alzheimer's Support Group. She was also a member of Angola United Methodist Church, Joyce Elliot Church Circle and Cameron Hospital board of directors. Surviving are sons Richard A. of Louisville, Ky., and William C. of Angola; daughters Cheralyn J. Shumaker of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and Suzan E. Zimmer of Angola; brothers Herschal Grill of Reno, Nev., Arden Grill of Fort Wayne and Gerald Grill of Waterloo; nine grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William B., and a brother. Celebration of Life is 12:30 p.m. Friday at Angola United Methodist Church, Angola. Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Weicht Funeral Home, Angola. Graveside services are 10 a.m. Friday at Hamilton cemetery, Hamilton. Mary Caroline Pratt, 92, of Wabash, organist/member of Manchester Bible Church, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at Community Care Center.
The Wabash native was a homemaker, formerly of North Manchester and a 1928 graduate of Polk Township High School in Huntington County. Surviving are sons Kenneth R. of North Manchester, Vernon of Wabash and Herbert D. of Princeton, W.Va.; daughters Marilyn Benson of Princeton, W.Va., and Janice Brakkee of Henderson, Nev.; a brother, L. Edward Lewis of Lagro; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Private family services will be held at Laketon cemetery, Laketon. Grace L. Shalley, 91, of Huntington, a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003. The Wells County native was retired from Wayne Pump in Fort Wayne and had also worked for LaFontaine Hotel. She was a 1929 graduate of Huntington Township High School. Surviving are a brother, Rev. Russell Shalley of Boubonnais, Ill.; a sister, Ruby Hacker of Huntington; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters. Services are 10 a.m. Friday at the First Church of the Nazarene, Huntington, with calling one hour before services. Calling is from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bailey-Love Mortuary, Huntington. Burial will be at Pilgrims Rest cemetery, Huntington.
