Harper Alanna Wehneman
Harper Alanna Wehneman, age 9, of Georgetown, Indiana, found rest on December 30, 2014.
Harper was a vibrant force for life not to be slowed by a May 2013 diagnosis of cancer. She spent the following year and a half continuously surrounded by friends, family, and supporters, highlighted by a wish trip to the Dixie Dude Ranch in Bandera, Texas, a September 2014 family trip filled with laughter, photos, and happy memories for all.
Harper’s resilience warranted the attention of Insider Louisville, the News and Tribune, and the Courier Journal, and she received encouragement from celebrities such as Christina Perri and Sara Bareilles. Her father’s blogging and the Hope For Harper campaign increased awareness of and funding for pediatric cancer, bringing us all ever closer to a cure.
Harper’s personal theme came to be “I want to see you be brave.” Her life will continue to be celebrated and bravely remembered and shared by her parents Brian and Melissa, her older sister Cadence, younger sister Finley, her grandparents Phil and Lois, Sharon and Bob, and Dean and Gloria, her aunt Leslie and uncles Scott and Neil, and countless other friends and family members. In addition to those named above, Brian and Melissa wish to specifically thank the skilled and caring medical staff at Kosair Childrens Hospital.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 3 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Garr Funeral Home, 7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, IN 47172. A celebration of Harper’s life will be held Sunday, January 4 at 2 p.m. at Garr Funeral Home. Attendees of the visitation and celebration are encouraged to reflect Harper’s vibrancy in their attire.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests furthering Harper’s legacy through your generous financial support of Aiden’s Legacy, Gilda’s Club Louisville, the Pablove Foundation, and St. Baldricks Foundation.
