William (Bill) Sizemore
May 29, 1936 - February 20, 2010

William “Bill” Sizemore, 73, of St. David, Arizona, and formerly of Hudson, Indiana, died Saturday, February 20, 2010, in his residence.

Mr. Sizemore lived in Arizona 13 years, coming from Hudson. He was a home builder for Commodore in Syracuse. He attended the St. David Church in St. David, Arizona. and gave his life to Christ two weeks before he died.

He was born icon May 29, 1936, in Knott County, Kentucky, to Ottis and Freida (Fuller) Sizemore. In 1956, he married icon Ruby Coburn in Stroh.

Surviving are his wife, Ruby Sizemore of St. David, Arizona; his mother, Freida Sizemore of Avilla; two daughters, Pamela Sizemore of Albion and Tamara Rasler and her companion, Steve Pentico of Fremont; five sons and three daughters-in-law, Brian & Laura Sizemore of Stroh, Brad & Helen Sizemore of Rome City, Bart Sizemore of LaGrange, Bruce Sizemore of Rome City, and Ed & Veda Sawyer of Kendallville; twelve grandchildren, Stacy Smith, Heather Sizemore, Brittany Sizemore, Trevor Sizemore, Johnny Franklin, Candace Douglas, Faith Sizemore, Nikki Tope, Billy Prater, Alex Sizemore, Ciara Sawyer and Cami Sawyer; four step grandchildren; four great grandchildren; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lola & Lotchie Conley of Stroh and Cynthia Ann & Kenny Rowlison of Kendallville; and a brother Morris Sizemore of Hudson.

He was preceded in death by his father, Ottis Sizemore.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 3, 2010, at 1 p.m. in Five Corner Baptist Church, Wolcottville, with Pastor Clarence Combs, Pastor Lee Combs, Pastor Willie Collins, and Pastor Jerry Collins officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Cemetery.

Calling is Monday, March 1, 2010, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville, and Tuesday, March 2, 2010, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Five Corners Baptist Church, Wolcottville where there will be an evening service at 6 p.m.

Preferred memorials are to Ruby Sizemore.

David P. Gemmer
June 02, 1930 - February 22, 2010

David Paul Gemmer, 79, of Corunna, died Monday, February 22, 2010, in his rural home.

He began his teaching career in 1952, in a one room school at Zion Lutheran Corunna, was a Principal and teacher at St. John’s Flatrock, Monroeville, and retired after teaching 26 years at Concordia Lutheran High School, Fort Wayne.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville and was a Stephen Ministry leader and teacher.

He was born icon June 2, 1930, in Huntington to the late Paul and Edith (Ellerman) Gemmer.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Maryellyn (Smith) Gemmer of Corunna; a son and daughter-in-law, David & Lisa Gemmer of Avon; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sarah Clark of Corunna, Rachel & Dean Dwyer of Corunna, and Hannah & Andy Alatza of Westfield; and six grandsons, Jeremiah Sheets, Isaiah Clark, Paul and Mark Gemmer, and Nicholas and Noah Alatza.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 27, 2010, at 1 p.m. in St. John Lutheran Church, 301 South Oak Street, Kendallville, with Rev. Paul B. Griebel and Rev. Robert Shriner officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church and School, Kendallville or Parkview Noble Hospice.

Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville is assisting the family with arrangements.

Eugene A. Robinson
December 31, 1924 - October 24, 2010

Eugene Alexander Robinson, 85, of Avilla died Sunday, October 24, 2010, in Provena Sacred Heart Home, Avilla.

Mr. Robinson received a degree in communications from Valparaiso University. He was a graduate of Purdue University and Ball State University where he received a bachelor's degree in education and counseling and a master's degree in education.

He was a radio broadcaster for WAWK in Kendallville where he was known as “Jolly Green Gene”. He was also a broadcaster for WLNB in Ligonier and various other radio stations across the country. He was a teacher, high school counselor, and a marketing director at the Bowen Center. He worked at Thunderbird in Decatur, and retired from Dometic.

He served with the Merchant Marines and the Navy Seabees. He flew for the Navy as a navigator, and was a journalist and communications expert aboard Navy ships, including the Coral Sea, the George Washington, and the Kitty Hawk. He began his military career by serving in World War II, and concluded his career in Desert Storm.

Growing up in New York state, he was an altar boy in the Catholic Church. Later in life, he attended the Lutheran Church. He was a member of the VFW Post 2749 in Kendallville, the VFW Post in Ontario, and American Legion Post 0423 in Orland.

His hobbies included downhill skiing, cross country skiing, hiking, running, golfing, and crossword puzzles. He enjoyed playing the harmonica and the four-string ukelele.

He was born icon December 31, 1924, in Lakawana, New York, to Samuel and Constance Robchina. He married icon Nadine Mace in 1985 in LaGrange.

Surviving are his wife, Nadine Mace-Robinson of Indianapolis; a son and daughter-in-law, Gregory and Marla Robinson of Kendallville, two daughters and a son-in-law, Robin Esterline of Marysville, Ohio and Rebecca and Bruce Snyder, of Stewart, Florida; a stepson, Doug Harp of Mesa, Arizona; four stepdaughters, Schodi Irvin of Anthem, Arizona, Schamberle and Tim Williams of Kendallville, Tamela and Terry Mautner of Indianapolis, and Kimberle and Michael Ferris of Bermuda Dunes, California; 16 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and his mother-in-law, Mary I Mace of Syracuse.

He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel Robchina; his mother, Constance Malnati; his stepfather, Rene Malnati; and a son, Jeffory Robinson.

Graveside services will be Friday, October 29, 2010, at 3 p.m. in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville, with Chaplain Tom Novy of Provena Sacred Heart Home officiating. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post 2749, Kendallville.

Calling is Wednesday, October 27, 2010, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.

Preferred memorials are to Alzheimer's Association.

June E. Brennan
April 09, 1925 - October 25, 2010

June Ellen Brennan, 85, of Kendallville died Monday, October 25, 2010, at 10:55 p.m. in her residence.

Mrs. Brennan graduated from Kendallville High School. She had previously worked in the office of Trenton Garment Company. She was a dedicated wife and mom of five children.

She was a lifelong member of Faith United Methodist Church in Kendallville. She was also a member of Beta Associate Chapter of Tri Kappa and Elks Ladies. She enjoyed helping with Noble County Community Concerts.

She was born icon April 9, 1925, in Kendallville, to Geoffrey L. and Mabel E. (Richard) Browand. On December 26, 1946, in Kendallville she married icon Robert R. Brennan. He survives in Kendallville.

Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Tom Smith of Kendallville and Linda and David Leamon of Kendallville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey R. and Kay Brennan of Kendallville and Michael J. and Kathy Brennan of Elmhurst, Illinois; 13 grandchildren, Eric Smith, Nathan Smith, Jennifer Riecke, Melissa Andrews, Chuck Leamon, Brian Brennan, Joshua Brennan, Zachary Brennan, Angela Mihal, Callie Brennan, Sam Brennan, Greta Brennan, and Johnny Brennan; and 15 great grandchildren, Brennan Smith, Riley Smith, Mason Smith, Zakkary Howell, Chelsea Riecke, Quinton Howell, Lucas Riecke, Whitney Weimer, Paige Weimer, Walker Leamon, Kristi Brennan, Kelli Brennan, Nathan Brennan, Cameron Brennan, and Owen Brennan.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Browand and Ruth Fitzpatrick, and a son, Timothy Patrick Brennan on June 3, 1988.

Funeral services will be Friday, October 29, 2010, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Rev. Leon Pomeroy officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.

Casketbearers will be her grandsons and great grandsons.

Calling is Thursday, October 28, 2010, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to Foundations of Noble County or Faith United Methodist Church.

George K. Bently
August 07, 1907 - October 29, 2010

George K. Bently, 103, of Fort Wayne died Friday, October 29, 2010, at The Towne House Health Center.

Mr. Bently had lived at The Towne House in Fort Wayne since April, 1999, coming from Kendallville. He retired as Vice President of Engineering at the McCray Refrigerator Company in Kendallville, having worked there for 37 years.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kendallville where he served as an elder. He was also a member of the TKE Fraternity, Kendallville Lions Club, Kendallville Elks Lodge, American Society of Heating, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Engineers and Director of Peoples Federal Savings Bank for over 25 years.

He was born icon August 7, 1907, in Valparaiso to Joseph C. and Anna Catherine Margaret (Harbeck) Bently. On November 24, 1938, in Kendallville he married icon Orpha Jean Preston.

Surviving are his wife, Orpha Jean Bently of Fort Wayne; a son and daughter-in-law, William G. and Charlotte "Deanie" Bently of Bloomington; three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. His son, Robert Preston Bently, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 1, 2010, at 11 a.m. in The Towne House Chapel, 2209 St. Joe Center Road, Fort Wayne, with Pastor Doug Vogel officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.

Calling will be one hour prior to the service at the Towne House Chapel.

Preferred memorials are to The Towne House Good Neighbor Fund, 2209 St. Joe Center Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46825.

Thelma J. Beiswanger
December 08, 1925 - November 01, 2010

Thelma J. (Myers) Beiswanger, 84, of Kendallville died Monday, November 1, 2010, at 9:15 a.m. in Lutheran Life Villages, Kendallville.

Mrs. Beiswanger was a lifetime area resident. She owned and operated the Majic Mirror Beauty Shop in Kendallville for ten years. She had also worked as a bookkeeper for Wible Realty in Auburn.

She was a member of the Tri Kappa Associate Chapter, volunteered at the Friendship Food Pantry in Kendallville, and also involved with the LaOtto School Alumni. She enjoyed gardening, birdwatching, and her pets.

She was born icon December 8, 1925, in Allen County to Charles and Emelia (Habig) Myers.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Suzanne “Suzie” and Bob Conrad of Kendallville; two grandsons, Tracy Conrad and Troy and Michele Conrad; and four great grandchildren, Ali Conrad, Dylan Conrad, Brooke Conrad, and Ty Conrad.

She was preceded in death by a son, Michael Beiswanger in 1959; a brother, Paul Myers; and a sister, Helen Krider.

Funeral services will be Thursday, November 4, 2010, at 10 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Chaplain David Griebel officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery at Kendallville.

Casketbearers will be Harold Troyer, Ed Stringfellow, Elvia Rimmel, Cam Schoeck, Chris Cleveland, and Brice Abbs.

Calling is Wednesday, November 3, 2010, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Betty J. Barkdull
December 08, 1934 - November 12, 2010

Betty J. Barkdull, 75, of Wolcottville died Friday, November 12, 2010, in Wesley Health Care Center, Auburn.

Mrs. Barkdull had lived in this area since 1969, and frequently wintered in Florida. She retired in 1985 after 18 years at Dometic in LaGrange.

She was born icon December 8, 1934, in Anderson to Joseph and Gertrude E. (Clark) Reed. On April 29, 1960, in Alexandria she married icon Harold R. Barkdull, Sr.

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law, Trudi and Sanford Meyer of Wolcottville; five sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael Quinn of Ligonier, Jack Quinn of Ligonier, Randy Barkdull of Middle Town, Robin Barkdull of Fort Wayne, and Harold Barkdull, Jr. and Sherry Barkdull of Wolcottville; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold on February 5, 2008; two sisters; and two brothers.

Funeral services will be Monday, November 15, 2010, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville with Rev. Carldean Merrifield officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Wolcottville.

Calling is Sunday, November 14, 2010, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Martin C. (Marty) Manahan
April 08, 1960 - November 11, 2010

Martin C. “Marty” Manahan, 50, of Avilla died unexpectedly Thursday, November 11, 2010, in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Marty was a 1978 graduate of East Noble High School. He owned and operated Lawnscape of Avilla.

He was a member of American Legion Post 86 Sons of the Legion in Kendallville where he was the current director of the Legion Riders. He was active in Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Noble County. He was a member of the Kendallville Eagles Lodge and held all the offices of the Kendallville Jaycees from 1980 until the club disbanded in 1996.

He was a collector of many things, and dearly loved the cottage on Rose Lake, Kinderhook, Michigan. He enjoyed riding his Harley.

He was born icon April 8, 1960, in Kendallville to Fred and Madilyn L. (Parker) Manahan. On October 17, 1981, in Kendallville he married icon Amie S. Gaff.

Surviving are his wife, Amie S. Manahan of Avilla; two daughters and a son-in-law, Brekan Manahan and her significant other, Scott Clements and his daughter, Gracie of Wawaka and Felecia and Derrick Ott of North Carolina; his father and stepmother, Fred and Irene Manahan of The Villages, Florida; a sister and brother-in-law, Marla L. and Fred Meyers of Lebanon; a brother, Mitchell T. “Mitch” Manahan of Detroit, Michigan; his “Little Brother”, Chadd Cook of Kendallville; and his dogs, Tucker and Deuce.

He was preceded in death by his mother on November 9, 1995.

Funeral services will be Sunday, November 14, 2010, at 2 p.m. in Crosspointe Family Church, 205 Highpointe Crossing, Kendallville with Brother Bo McKie of the Legion Riders and Pastor Kevin Sneed of Crosspointe Family Church officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.

Calling is Saturday, November 13, 2010, from 2 to 8 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.

David L. Christner
March 28, 1921 - November 10, 2010

David L. Christner, 89, of Wolcottville transferred to Heaven Wednesday, November 10, 2010, from his home on Messick Lake.

He was born icon March 28, 1921, in Topeka to Levi D. and Goldie O'Neil (Eash) Christner. On March 19, 1946, in Old Fort, Ohio, he married icon Lois Heilman.

He had lived in the Wolcottville area for the past 52 years. He retired from Duo-Therm in LaGrange where he did general repair and maintenance.

He was a member of the Shipshewana Church of the Nazarene. He was named LaGrange County Citizen of the Year in 1997 for conducting worship services for 25 years at Miller's Merry Manor in LaGrange.

He was a member of the Gideon's, and enjoyed fishing and woodworking. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

David is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lois; two sons, Michael E. Christner, Kalamazoo, Michigan, and D. John Christner and wife, Trudy of Noblesville; five grandchildren, Candy, Mindy, Michelle, Chad, and Jaime; nine great grandchildren; brother, Sam Christner; and sister, Sue Christner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Betty Lee Christner; sisters, Lizzie Miller, Mary Fereva, Edith Lyon, Emma Hostetler; and brothers, Menno Christner, Christian Christner, Amos Christner, Levi Christner, Arthur Christner, and John Christner.

Funeral services will be Saturday, November 13, 2010, at 10 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville with Pastor Andy Dayton of the Shipshewana Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be in Shore Cemetery, Shipshewana.

Calling is Friday, November 12, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Preferred memorials are to the Shipshewana Church of the Nazarene.

Elita M. Day
January 01, 1957 - November 03, 2010

Elita M. Day, 53, of Kendallville died Wednesday, November 3, 2010, in her residence.

Ms. Day had lived most of her life in Kendallville. She was a factory worker, and had worked for 35 years in the same building.

She was born icon March 8, 1957, in Angola to Charles William and Arnell J. (Hollinger) Day.

Surviving are two sons, Charles Day and Jeremy Day both of Kendallville; three grandchildren, Skyla A. Day, Logan A. Day, and Wyette G. Day; her mother, Arnell J. Day of Kendallville; two brothers, David W. Day of LaGrange and Larry Day of Angola.

She was preceded in death by her father, Charles W. Day and her stepfather, Lester D. Acker.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 9, 2010, at 2 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.

Calling is one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to the family.
