Sister Ann Francine (Rose Lucille) Cook
Sister Ann Francine Cook, 86, of St. Mary-of-the-Woods, died at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in Karcher Hall. She was a teacher. She was born March 2, 1915, in Bazille Mills, Neb., to Frank Cook and Anna Abbenhaus Cook. Survivors include two sisters, Mae Laura Cook of Los Angeles and Evelyn Olson of Hazelwood, Mo. She attended Bloomfield (Neb.) Public School and Creigton (Neb.) High School, and received her bachelor of science degree in education from St. Mary-of-the-Woods College. She entered the Congregation of the Sisters of Providence Sept. 8, 1945, professed First Vows Aug. 15, 1948 and Final Vows Aug. 15, 1953. She taught in schools staffed by the Sisters of Providence in Indiana, Illinois, California and Missouri. Mass of Christian Burial is 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Church of the Immaculate Conception with the Rev. Lawrence Richardt officiating. Burial is in Cemetery of the Sisters of Providence. Wake is 3 p.m. Monday in Providence Hall, with wake service at 4:30 p.m., in the church. The Callahan Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Mildred Irene Hibschman
MARSHALL, Ill. - - Mildred Irene Hibschman, 90, of Marshall died at 11 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, 2001, in Burnsides Nursing Home. She was born May 27, 1910, near Marshall, to William Carl Schaefer and Eva Christine Holzworth Schaefer. Survivors include her husband, Harold F. Hibschman, whom she married April 2, 1941, in Grand Turn Church (Emmanuel United Methodist) of rural Marshall; one son, Keith Hibschman and his wife, Anita of Dennison; two grandsons, Travis Hibschman and his wife, Maggie of Marshall and Kevin Hibschman of Las Vegas, Nev.; one granddaughter, Tina Maskell and her husband, Brad of Prairie Creek, Ind.; three great-grandchildren, Brandon Maskell, D.J. Hibschman and Gage Hibschman; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by six sisters; and one brother. She was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church and various organizations of the church. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Pearce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sheila Kelly officiating. Burial is in Marshall Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today and 7 a.m. until services Saturday.

Wilkison Winfield 'Bill' Meeks
Wilkison Winfield "Bill" Meeks, 86, of Terre Haute died Thursday, April 5, 2001, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was a physics professor emeritus at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, where he had taught for over 27 years. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., to Ralph Meeks and Ruby Meeks. Survivors include his wife, Esther MacBain Meeks; two daughters, Katherine Allison Meeks of New York City and Loretta Margaret Meeks of Phoenix; three nieces, Darlene Young of Irwin, Pa., Debbie Rose of Muncie and Lynne Spellman of Fayettsville, Ark.; and four nephews, Howard Ober of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Roy Bertram Rose of Costa Mesa, Calif., Lee Rose of Las Vegas, Nev., and Douglas McBain of Wadsworth, Ohio. He graduated with honors from Maryville (Tenn.) College and earned his master of science degree and his doctorate degree in physics from Northwestern University. He was a member of American Physical Society, a 50-year member of Sigma XI Honorary Science Fraternity and a specialist and writer in the field of acoustics. During most of World War II he was employed at the Naval Ordnance Laboratory in Washington, D.C. and Solomons, Maryland, degaussing ships to protect them from magnetic mines. At Haskins Laboratory in New York City, he worked on research developing reading aids for the blind and worked on a project to provide artificial speech for the handicapped. At B.F. Goodrich Research Laboratory in Brecksville, Ohio, he studied underwater sound and helped to develop automatic de-icers for airplane wings. He taught at Western Maryland College in Westminster, Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Western Reserve University in Cleveland and Rose-Hulman, where he served as head of the physics department during the 1960s and 1970s. He was active in softball games and enjoyed social round dancing. Services for family and friends will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Roselawn Memorial Chapel. Burial is private. The family requests flowers be omitted.

Helen A. Schneider
Helen A. Schneider, 76, of Terre Haute died at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2001, in her residence. She was a EKG technician, having worked for both St. Anthony Hospital and Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was born Dec. 24, 1924, in East St. Louis, Ill., to Frank Wenc and Lucy Durda Wenc. Survivors include her husband, Raymond Schneider; one son, Ted Schneider of Terre Haute; one daughter and son-in-law, Marcia and Donald Eppelin of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews, including James W. Joseph Sr., and his family of Terre Haute. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Joseph Wenc; and two sisters, Sally Wenc and Anna Joseph. She was a devout prayer intercessor. Services are 3 p.m. Saturday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with the Rev. Monte Vincent officiating. Musical selections will be performed by Nancee South Falber. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today and one hour before services Saturday. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley, 600 S. First St., Terre Haute, IN 47807.

Leo Francis Augburn
Leo Francis Augburn, 74, of Terre Haute died at 1 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, in his residence. He was born Feb. 24, 1926, in Eaton to Frank Augburn and Irene Holland Augburn. Survivors include one daughter, Joan Rodgers; two sons, Roy Augburn and Don Augburn; one sister, Arbuta Richmond; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services are 10 a.m. Friday in Highland Lawn Chapel, with the Rev. W.A. Van Winkle officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn Cemetery. There is no visitation. Mattox-Ryan Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.

Harlan E. Blaine
Harlan E. Blaine, 65, of Terre Haute died early Tuesday morning, Aug. 15, 2000, in Union Hospital. He worked for C.F. Industries as a laborer. He was born May 6, 1935, in Seelyville to Denver Blaine and Effie Hamilton Blaine. His wife, Audrey Porter Blaine, died in 1991. Survivors include one brother, Delbert Blaine of Terre Haute; one sister, Helen Galbraith of Terre Haute; and several nieces and nephews. He also was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, James R. Blaine, Don Blaine and Herbert Blaine; and one sister, Ila Cummings. He was an Army veteran. Services are 1 p.m. today in The Callahan Funeral Home, with the Rev. Monte Vincent officiating. Burial is in Cottage Hill Cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services.

Herbert Leroy Elliott
Herbert Leroy Elliott, 80, of West Terre Haute died at 9:14 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, in Union Hospital. He was retired from Mace Service as a mechanic, after 40 years of service. He was born June 9, 1920, in Seelyville to James E. Elliott and Margaret Burkholder Elliott. His wife, Margaret Curtis Elliott, died in 1991. Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Helen Elliott Elkins of West Terre Haute; one sister, Dorothy Elliott Pierson of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Tracy Elliott, Belinda Marshall and Tonya Elliott, all of Terre Haute and James E. Elliott Jr., of West Terre Haute; six great-grandchildren; and two very dear friends, Albert L. Elkins of West Terre Haute and Paul Carpenter of Australia. He also was preceded in death by one son, James E. Elliott, March 1, 1986. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, and was a member of American Legion Post 0090 of Marshall. Services are 11 a.m. Friday in Mattox-Bedino West Terre Haute Chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Leek officiating. Burial is in St. Mary's Cemetery in Marshall, Ill., with graveside military rites by American Legion Post 0090 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5975. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Thelma L. Hargis
Thelma L. Hargis, 73, of Terre Haute and formerly of Brazil, died at 9:09 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, in St. Vincent's Hospital in Indianapolis, following surgery for an aortic aneurysm. She was an associate real estate broker with Newlin-Johnson Co. Inc. She was born March 26, 1927, in northern Clay County, one of 12 children to George Ruddock and Grace Ethel Wheeler Ruddock. Her husband, Ernest D. Hargis, whom she married July 24, 1949, died Sept. 23, 1997. Survivors include one son, Charles "Chuck" Hargis of Clay City; three sisters, Rhena Dellacca and Margaret Durkos, both of Carbon and Norma Clark of Terre Haute; one brother, Samuel E. Ruddock of Fontanet; and many nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by an infant son, Paul D. Hargis; an infant daughter, Reba Diane Hargis; and seven brothers, George W. Ruddock, Charles E. Ruddock, Garland T. Ruddock, Chester E. Ruddock, Lewis V. Ruddock, Ray W. Ruddock and Loyd H. Ruddock. She and her husband had operated the Paradise Lake recreational area south of Brazil for several years, and later moved to the Terre Haute area where she became involved in real estate sales. She was a 1944 graduate of Bridgeton High School and was a member of the National Arbor Day Foundation and many realtor-related organizations. Services are 10 a.m. Saturday in Miller Memorial Chapel in Brazil, with Pastor Marcia Carpenter officiating. Burial is in Bethesda Cemetery in West Terre Haute. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Friday.

Maxine L. Wilson
Maxine L. Wilson, 55, of Cataract and formerly of Terre Haute died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, in Clarian Health/Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, from injuries sustained in a traffic accident in Owen County Aug. 14. She was born March 3, 1946, in Terre Haute to Max Ellinger and Louise W. Curry Ellinger. Survivors include her husband, Norman W. Wilson; one daughter, Jeanette Burk; one son, Jack Wittenmyer; and seven grandchildren. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Whitaker Funeral Home in Cloverdale. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park in North Terre Haute, with chapel committal services at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday.

David G. Brewer
ROSEDALE ‹ David G. Brewer, 57, of Rosedale died at 7:48 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, in West Central Community Hospital's emergency room. He was a retired supervisor for Indiana Gas Co. He was born Feb. 21, 1943, in Clinton to John Brewer and Ella Pedigo Brewer. Survivors include his wife, Sandy Lambert Brewer; four daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer and Jerry Newton of Vermilion, Ill., Kim and Mike Shaffer of Clinton, Erin and Chuck Scott of Rosedale and Leslie and David LeClercq of Terre Haute; five sisters, Violet Baruzelli, Peggy Shew and Carolyn Kingery, all of Clinton, Lucy Street of Kansas City, Mo., and Sonnie Steffy of Indianapolis; two half sisters, Jewel Norman and Lucille Davis; best friend, Dale Nolan of Clinton; grandchildren, Ryan Shortridge, Linsay Shortridge, Lacie Newton, Matthew Shaffer, Logan Shaffer, Dyllan Scott, Caleb Scott, Evan LeClercq, Kirstin LeClercq and Abagail LeClercq; and several aunts, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters; and one half brother. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church, Jerusalem Lodge 99 Free & Accepted Masons and American Legion Post 140, and served in the Army during peacetime. Services are 11 a.m. Saturday in Frist Funeral Home in Clinton, with the Rev. James Horton officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park in North Terre Haute. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday with Masonic memorial services at 7 p.m.
