SULLIVAN - - James I. Halberstadt Jr., 57, of Sullivan died at 11:16 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, in Sullivan County Community Hospital. He was born April 27, 1943, in Sullivan County to James Halberstadt and Mary L. Montgomery Halberstadt. Survivors include his wife, Darlene Riddell Halberstadt; three daughters, Jamie Jackson, Kimberly Parker and Alicia Parker; his father; and one sister, Chloe Nell Guy. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday in Banks & Brust Funeral Home, with Randy Pigg officiating. Burial is in Palmer's Prairie Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today and before services Thursday in the funeral home.
Sylvia Jane Jones
SHELBURN - - Sylvia Jane Jones, 103, of Cape Coral, Fla., and formerly of Shelburn died at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, in Coral Trace Nursing Home in Cape Coral. She was a homemaker. She was born Sept. 3, 1897, in White Plains, Ky., to John M. Gibson and Addie Cunningham Gibson. Her husband, Charles W. Jones, died in 1979. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Harley Jones and Muriel Jones of Seminole, Fla.; one daughter and son-in-law, Ava Foucault and Frank Foucault of Cape Coral, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by two sons, Harvey L. Jones and Arrel Wesley Jones. She was a charter member of Shelburn Pilgrim Holiness Church in 1928 (now Wesleyan), and taught Sunday school classes for adults and children for many years. She was a member of American Legion Post 273 Auxiliary in Seminole. She also chaired several committees at the nursing home. Services are 2 p.m. Saturday in Mattox-McHugh Shelburn Chapel. Burial is in Little Flock Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Friday.
Marion P. Marshall
PERRYSVILLE - - Marion P. Marshall, 69, of rural Perrysville died at 9:41 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, in Union Hospital in Terre Haute. He was a retired farmer and retired after 33 years as a school bus driver for North Vermillion School Corp. He was born Aug. 7, 1931, in Highland Township in Vermillion County to Vernon Marshall and Genevieve Prather Marshall. Survivors include his wife, Lois Hollowell Marshall, whom he married Sept. 25, 1949, in Gessie; three daughters, Dianna Hall, Nancy Starkey and Martha Williams; one son, Dennis Marshall; two sisters, Eileen Rouse and Vivian Hughes; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He attended Cayuga Christian Church and was a former member of Cayuga Lions Club. Services are 10 a.m. Thursday in DeVerter Brothers Funeral Home in Cayuga, with the Rev. Andy Spencer officiating. Burial is in Hopewell Cemetery
in Rileysburg. Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. today.
Albert Lee Maus
ROBINSON, Ill. - - Albert Lee Maus, 82, of Robinson died at 12:25 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, in his home following a long illness. He was born July 28, 1918, in Oblong to Frank Maus and Eva Rice Maus. Survivors include his wife, Catherine R. "Kate" Jamison Maus; two sons, Robert Maus and Rodney Maus; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Services are 10:30 a.m. Friday in Pulliam Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Barnett officiating. Burial is in Robinson New Cemetery
with military graveside rites. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
Mary Elizabeth Stickler
PARIS, Ill. - - Mary Elizabeth Stickler, 94, of Paris died at 2:36 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000, in Paris Community Hospital. She was a homemaker. She was born June 16, 1906, in Edgar County to Lewis F. Thiel and Lula O'Dell Thiel. Her husband, James "Ted" T. Stickler, whom she married Feb. 18, 1928, died Oct. 6, 1984. Survivors include two daughters, Beverly "Jean" McKee and her husband Dwight of Chrisman, and Patricia Ann Marrs and her husband Gene of Marshall, Ill.; one son, Ronald Lee Stickler and his wife Audrey of Paris; one brother, Glen Thiel of Paris; two sisters, Ruth Donnell of Mattoon and Esther Marrs of Paris; eight grandchildren, Becky McKee, Kenneth McKee, Greg Marrs, Jim Marrs, Chris Stickler, Kent Stickler, Michael Stickler and Nicole Boose; and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Irene Sidenbender. She was a member of First Christian Church in Paris, Grandmothers Club, Golden Rule Sunday School class, and Christian Women's Fellowship of the church. Services are 10 a.m. Friday in Stewart & Carroll Funeral Home. Burial is in Edgar Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Clarence A. Bell
Clarence A. Bell, 72, of Cincinnati and formerly of West Terre Haute died at 10:50 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, 2000, in Murphy Franciscan Hospital in Cincinnati. He most recently was an antique dealer and owned and operated The Cottage, an antique shop in Cincinnati, for 20 years. He was born Aug. 8, 1928, in Terre Haute to Robert Otto Bell and Mildred Eggleston Bell. Survivors include one brother and sister-in-law, Robert O. and Agnes Bell of Terre Haute; six nieces, Diana Bell, Linda Bell, Priscilla Driggers and Doris Fisher, all of Terre Haute, Janet Cartwright of Franklin, and Nancy Patrick of Seymour; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, George A. Bell. He also was an auditor with General Electric and with Magnavox Corp. He was a 1946 graduate of Valley High School and served in the National Guard. Services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Fitzpatrick-Pearce Funeral Home, with the Rev. Marvin Cheek officiating. Burial is in Highland Lawn Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today and 7 a.m. until services Wednesday.
M. Robert Britton
M. Robert Britton, 69, of Terre Haute died Friday night, Sept. 29, 2000, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. He was a retired building contractor. He was born Dec. 6, 1930, in Terre Haute to Charles F. Britton and Ella Leah Osborn Britton. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Susanne Britton; two brothers, Bill Wayne Britton of Terre Haute and Jack Britton of Bourbon; five sisters, Dorothy Lewis Steadman, Johanna Endress DeLong and Wilma Blair Riddle, all of Terre Haute, Ruby Lewzader of Indianapolis, and Charlotte Alder of Tucson, Ariz.; a son-like nephew, K. Edward Turner of Terre Haute; two grandchildren, Ryan L. Britton and Chris Britton; one granddaughter, Mandy Honea; his former wife of 43 years, Shirley D. Britton of Terre Haute; close friend, Joe Welsh of Robinson, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Robert Britton; one daughter, Michelle Britton; two brothers, Clifford Britton and Charles Britton; and one sister, Margaret Gehring. He also had been employed with R.H. Donnelley, Western Southern Life Insurance and Wabash Fiber Box. He was a 1949 graduate of Gerstmeyer High School and a Marine Corps veteran serving in the
Korean War. He was a former member of Maplewood Christian Church, Sachem of the Redmen Lodge, president of the PTA at Maple Avenue Elementary School, was a leader in both Cub Scouts and Boys Scouts of America, a member of the Marine Corps League, Joseph A. Bray Detachment, and coached in Little League and Youth Organization. Memorial services are 2 p.m. Wednesday in The Callahan Funeral Home, with the Rev. Mike Britton officiating. Private family graveside services are in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. today. Virgil C. Hamelmann
Virgil C. Hamelmann, 82, of Terre Haute died at 1:52 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, in Union Hospital's outpatient dialysis unit. He retired from IMC, formerly Commercial Solvents Corp. He was born Aug. 23, 1918, in Terre Haute to Louis Hamelmann and Mayme Blotna Hamelmann. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Kunz Hamelmann; one daughter, Linda Simmons; one son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Rhonda Hamelmann; one sister, Shirley Royer; five grandchildren, Kelly Hosking, Shannon Simmons, Michael Hamelmann, Mark Hamelmann and Megan Hamelmann; and three great-grandchildren, Ellen Hosking, Jason Hosking and Emily Simmons. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Doug Hamelmann in 1969; and one sister, Ruth Erler. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of United Methodist Temple. Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Rev. James Truelove officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Blanche L. Noble
Blanche L. Noble, 61, of Terre Haute died at 1:15 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, in her residence. She was born Jan. 27, 1939, in Terre Haute to Donald Scott and Ruth Gordon Scott. Her husband, Paul A. Noble, died July 6, 1994. Survivors include five daughters, Anita Glasstetter, Patty Langford, Melinda Walley, Cathy Noble and Kristie Kaiser; six sons, Bobby, Bill, John, Tom, John Patrick and Paul Jr.; five brothers, Jim, Paul, Russell, Bill Cheeseman and Kenny Poe; seven sisters, Linda, Ray Anne, Deeanna Johnson, Loetta Kimbler, Vickie Rogers, Jane Norton and Debbie Falla; several grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews. Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday in Mattox-Ryan South Seventh Street Chapel, with the Rev. Jim Haddix officiating. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.
Florence M. Wright
Florence M. Wright, 79, of Clarksville, Tenn., and formerly of Terre Haute died Sunday, Sept. 24, 2000, in Clarksville Residential Care Center in Clarksville. She was a radiology technician with Clarksville Memorial Hospital, retiring after 22 years of service. She was born Dec. 10, 1920, in Vincennes to Homer Myers and Gertrude Bennett Myers. Survivors include one sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Warren Anderson of Terre Haute; one niece, Katherine Anderson of Terre Haute; and two nephews, Michael Anderson and Victor Anderson. She was preceded in death by her parents. Graveside memorial services are 10 a.m. today in Greenwood Cemetery
