Virginia Florence Ennen
Virginia Florence Ennen, 69, of Terre Haute died at 8:50 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2000, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital, following a three and one-half year battle with cancer. She was a licensed practical nurse as a physical therapist at Union Hospital and also had been employed at Western Union and Columbia Record Mailing Opening. She was born Oct. 3, 1930, in Terre Haute to Emery O. Wright and Edith Pugh Wright. Survivors include her husband, Herman C. Ennen Jr., with whom she would have celebrated a 50th wedding anniversary June 24; one son, Charles E. Ennen and his wife, Sharron Ennen; one daughter, Debbie J. Wilcox and her husband, Dan Wilcox; four grandchildren, Kellie Sue Dennis, Angela Kay Dennis, Mara Wilcox and Justin Wilcox; and several nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, William Wright. She was a 1949 graduate of the former Honey Creek High School, attended Indiana State University, and was a member of Faith Wesleyan Church and a former member of Terre Haute Bible Center. Services are 1 p.m. Saturday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Rev. Dan Gormong officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Saturday. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 705 Putnam St., Terre Haute, IN 47802.

Roger G. Jacobus
Roger G. Jacobus, 69, of Indianapolis and formerly of Terre Haute died May 19, 2000, in his residence. Survivors include one nephew, Clarence Surprise. Services are 1 p.m. Friday in Alpha Funeral Service in Indianapolis. Burial is in New Crown Cemetery in Indianapolis. Visitation is noon until services Friday.

Charles B. Mencer
Charles B. Mencer, 83, of Terre Haute died at 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, 2000, in his residence. He was a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until his retirement in 1975. He was born Dec. 2, 1916, in Nelson Creek, Ky., to John Mencer and Lydia Bratcher Mencer. Survivors include his wife, Elsie Sharp Mencer; three daughters, Susan A. Wall and Sherry A. LeClercq, both of Terre Haute and Sandra A. Newhouse of Indianapolis; two sons, Stephen A. Mencer of Acton and Stewart A. Mencer of Fairland; one cousin, Belgen Wells of Indianapolis; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Stanley A. Mencer, Jan. 1, 1994. He was a member of Humboldt Lodge 42 Free & Accepted Masons, Moose Lodge 17 of Indianapolis, American Legion Post 104, Voiture 21 40 & 8, Marine Corps League, Murdock Club, life member, and National Association of Letter Carriers. Services are 1 p.m. Friday in Mattox Wood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Herb officiating. Burial is in Highland lawn Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. today, with Masonic memorial services at 7 p.m. by Lodge 42. Family visitation is 4 to 5 p.m. today.

Mary Frances Stott
Mary Frances Stott, 74, of Terre Haute died Wednesday morning, May 24, 2000, in her residence. She was employed by Huggy Bear Day Care for 12 years. She was born Nov. 21, 1925, in Terre Haute to John Chance Sr., and Hazel Lidster Chance. Survivors include her husband, Ralph Stott Sr.; one son, Ralph Stott Jr., and his wife, Terri Stott; four daughters, Linda Hamblen and her husband, Elisha Hamblen, Joyce Swickard Stott, Sue Hauser and her husband, Rick Hauser and Christina Harrison; four brothers, John Chance Jr., Bill Chance, Gene Chance and Jerry Chance; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Herman Chance; one sister, Edith Stott; and one granddaughter, Jessica Summer Stott. She was a Navy veteran of World War II. Services are 11 a.m. Friday in Mattox-Wood Funeral Home, with the Rev. Roy Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 9 a.m. until services Friday.

Helen Ray Throckmorton
Helen Ray Throckmorton, 91, of Livermore, Calif., and formerly of Riley died April 24, 2000, in Livermore, while staying with her daughter. She was the owner of Helen's Bicycle Store in Santa Monica, Calif., from 1939 to 1973. She was born Oct. 9, 1908, in Norfolk, Neb., to the daughter of the Rev. Charles Wayne Ray, who was a descendent of William Ray and Anna Brown of Riley. Her husband, Romane "Ted" Throckmorton, whom she married Sept. 22, 1929, in Riley, died in 1990. Survivors include three daughters and their families, Elizabeth Chase of Texas, Eleanor Throckmorton of Santa Monica and Donald and Romaine Throckmorton-Veronda of Fremont, Calif.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was a descendent of William Ray who served in the Revolutionary War and Gov. William Bradford of Plymouth, Mass. While living in Santa Monica, she was a member and officer of Soroptimist International, the YWCA and Girl Scouts of America, and appeared in the world Who's Who of Women and the Hereditary Register. She attended Nebraska Wesleyan University, Nebraska State University and Santa Monica City College, where she was a member of the vocational scholarship committee. She and her husband moved to St. Louis and later back to the family farm in Riley and then to Santa Monica and to Mesa, Ariz., in the 1970s, until her husband's death. She spent many vacations in and around Terre Haute. She was a member of the Schwinn Bicycle 1,000 Club, and was an active member and officer of many heritage and historical organizations in Santa Monica and the Mesa/Phoenix area, after her retirement. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Santa Monica, since 1936, devoting many hours to church projects and being honored for being a 50-year member. Private graveside services are Friday in Oak Hill Cemetery in Riley. Mattox-Ryan South Seventh Street Chapel assisted with arrangements.

Mary P. Bennett
SHELBURN - - Mary P. Bennett, 62, of Shelburn died at 4 a.m. Wednesday, May 24, 2000, in Terre Haute Regional Hospital. She was employed at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility. She was born Jan. 1, 1938, in Shelburn to Ira Houser and Myrtle Mae Melvin Houser. Her husband, Leroy Bennett, died in 1991. Survivors include one son, David Bennett of Shelburn; three daughters, Teresa Harris of Shelburn, Lorretta Herrera of Sacramento and Susan Bonnilla of West Sacramento; four brothers, Aris Houser, Holly Houser, Venus Houser and Ira Houser, all of Shelburn; four sisters, Shirley Wise, Arrowanna Houser, Velsa Chambers and Minnie Sinders, all of Shelburn; one half sister, Dorothy Lucas of Shelburn; 11 grandchildren, Lisa Harris, Melissa Harris, Justin Harris, Michael Harris, Steven Bennett, Andy Herrera, Adrian Herrera, John Bonnilla, Christina Bonnilla, Amber Madden and Shawn Madden; and six great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Frank Bailey. Services are 1 p.m. Friday in Mattox-McHugh Shelburn Chapel, with the Rev. Michael Nave officiating. Burial is in Douglas Chapel Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today.

Virgil C. Hamelmann
Virgil C. Hamelmann, 82, of Terre Haute died at 1:52 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, in Union Hospital's outpatient dialysis unit. He retired from IMC, formerly Commercial Solvents Corp. He was born Aug. 23, 1918, in Terre Haute to Louis Hamelmann and Mayme Blotna Hamelmann. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Kunz Hamelmann; one daughter, Linda Simmons; one son and daughter-in-law, Ted and Ronda Hamelmann; one sister, Shirley Royer; five grandchildren, Kelly Hosking, Shannon Simmons, Michael Hamelmann, Mark Hamelmann and Megan Hamelmann; and three great-grandchildren, Ellen Hosking, Jason Hosking and Emily Simmons. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Doug Hamelmann in 1969; and one sister, Ruth Erler. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of United Methodist Temple. Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday in DeBaun Springhill Chapel, with the Rev. James Truelove officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. today. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Thomas W. Williams
Thomas W. Williams, 71, of Terre Haute died at 8:48 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, in his home. He was a brakeman on the New York Central Railroad and was a car salesman in Chicago and Terre Haute for many years; he founded Fort Harrison Auto Sales, from which he retired in 1991. He was born Nov. 3, 1928, in Terre Haute to Burley Williams and Mary Gilbert Williams. Survivors include his wife, Janice S. Matthews Williams, whom he married Sept. 8, 1962, in Chicago; one sister, Joanne Peterson of Terre Haute; one brother, Robert Williams of Monticello, Ky.; one nephew, Michael Williams of Houston; four nieces, Donna Carpenter of Terre Haute, Madonna Nally of Greenup, Ill.; Marlene Heppner of Houston and Carolyn Tracz of Marietta, Ga.; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Jane Lifford; two brothers, Gerald Williams and Norman Williams; and a special niece, Cindy Peterson. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea and was a lifetime member of American Legion Post 104, a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 972 and a member of the American Association of Retired Persons. Services are 1 p.m. Thursday in Callahan & Hughes Funeral Home, 605 S. 25th St., with the Rev. Sue Cartee officiating. Burial is in Roselawn Memorial Park, with military graveside services by American Legion Post 104. Visitation is 10 a.m. until services Thursday in the funeral home. If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Wabash Valley, 600 S. First St., Terre Haute, IN 47807.

Marylou Aker
BRAZIL - - Marylou Aker, 61, of Brazil died at 12:04 p.m. Monday, Oct. 2, 2000, in Union Hospital in Terre Haute. She worked at Columbia Records in Terre Haute as well as several restaurants in the area and was well known for her pies. She was born Jan. 23, 1939, in Brazil to Charles W. McVey and Mary L. Baughman McVey. Survivors include her husband, Daniel Aker, whom she married July 1, 1978; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jamey and Jackie Aker and Joey Aker, all of Brazil; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles N. and Essie McVey of Cloverdale; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Gertie McVey Wells and Bill Wells, and Ethel "Catie" McVey Drake and Fred Drake, all of Brazil; two grandchildren, Logan and Jennifer, both of Brazil; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Jodi Kay; and one brother, Robert "Otis" McVey. She was a 1957 graduate of Brazil High School. Services are 1 p.m. Friday in Lawson-Slack Funeral Home, 354 E. National Ave., Brazil, with the Rev. Bart Caldwell officiating. Burial is in Restlawn Cemetery. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
