Mary Elizabeth Dwane Thomas

Mary Elizabeth Dwane Thomas, 70, R.2, Brookston, died Friday, May 14, at her home.
She was born Sept. 6, 1922, to Michael and Anna Moosemiller Dwane, in Chalmers. She was married Feb. 13, 1944, to Francis "Chub" Thomas, in Reynolds, and he survives.
She graduated from Chalmers High School in 1940. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Reynolds and of the Rosary Society of that church.
Surviving with her husband are two sons: Stephen, R.1, Brookston and David, R.2, Brookston; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Helen) Wortman, Chalmers and two grandchildren.
The funeral was Sunday in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Father Richard Miller and Rev. Christi Schmidt officiating.
Burial was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Badger Grove Community Baptist Church.
Lova M. Beckner
September 13, 1931 - December 27, 2003
Lova M. Beckner, 72, of Monticello died Saturday, December 27, 2003 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.
She was born at Monon on September 13, 1931, to William Jesse and Maggie Beulah Wheeldon Baxter. She married James N. Beckner on April 25, 1959 in Monon. He survives.
She was a 1949 graduate of Monon High School.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Monon.
She worked at Bryan Manufacturing & Polymer Engineering, in Monticello for several years and had also worked at Schumacher Electric, Rensselaer, and as a motor route carrier for 20 years for the Lafayette Journal & Courier.
Surviving with the husband are two sons James B. (Nancy) Beckner of Monticello and Darrell L. (Rebecca) Beckner of Monticello; daughter Alice (Robert) Livesay of Monon; two brothers, William N. Baxter of Monon and Wayne (Betty) Baxter of Monticello; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A brother and sister are deceased.
Funeral services were at Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon on Wednesday, December 31, 2003 with Rev. Steve Birch officiating.
Burial was at Chapel Cemetery, Monon.
Leatha A. Duff
August 7, 1924 - September 13, 2003
Leatha A. Duff, 79, of Monon died Saturday, September 13, 2003 at her residence.
She was born August 7, 1924 in Carroll County the daughter of William Harold and Gladys Marie Hoagland Brewer. She married Harry James Mackey in 1943 in Logansport. He is deceased.
Her second marriage was to William E. Duff on July 15, 1951 in South Bend, Ind. He died Sept. 4, 1989.
She worked as the head bookkeeper for 10 years at S.S. Kresge, Lafayette. She also was a manager of a dry cleaner, manager of an apartment complex and a manager of a beauty supply store for several years.
She had lived in Monon for seven years coming from Montclair, CA.
She was a member of the Methodist church and was a 50-year member of the V.F.W. at Logansport. She also was a member of the Monon Eagles Auxiliary.
Survivors include two daughters, Judy K. (Richard) Lowe of Monon and Janice L. (Dave) Jones of Lafayette; son William Terry (Beverly) Duff of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. 8 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and several cousins.
No services are planned, as there was a direct cremation. Kellogg Funeral Home was in charge.
Geneva Opal Foster
September 25, 1917 - June 19, 2003
Geneva Opal Foster, 85, of Monticello died Thursday, June 19, 2003, at White County Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Monon on September 25, 1917, to Francis and Pearl Kellenburger Paris. She married Cecil Wayne Foster in New Jersey on January 16, 1942. He died on July 18, 1963.
She was a graduate of Reynolds High School in 1936.
She retired from K-Mart of Monticello after 22 years of service. She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Guernsey Church of the Brethren.
She was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge of Monon.
Survivors include sons, Robert J. Foster of Monticello, Michael W. Foster of Glen Burnie, Md., and Richard A. Foster of Brookston; daughters, Donna M. Hermansen of Mesa, Ariz., and JoAnn Kiser of Chesterton; a sister, Audrey Hord of Canton, Ohio; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
A brother and three sisters are deceased.
Funeral services were at the Guernsey Church of the Brethren on Monday with Rev. Dana Hood officiating. Kellogg Funeral Home was in charge of the service.
Burial was at Chapel Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Guernsey Church of the Brethren or the Monon Public Library.
Blanton Howard
August 21, 1925 - November 16, 2003
Blanton Howard, 78, of Monon died Sunday, November 16, 2003 at White County Memorial Hospital. He had been ill for 25 years.
He was born at Gauge, Ky., on August 21, 1925 the son of Harrison and Sarah Ann Trusty Howard
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
He was a construction worker for several years.
He was a member of Emmanuel First Love Baptist Church in Medaryville.
Since 1988, he had lived in the Monon and Lafayette area, coming from Salyersville, KY.
He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Howard of Redding, Calif., sons Bobby Howard and Harold Howard, both of Redding, Calif. and Paul Howard of Denver, Colo., a brother Paul (Barbara) Howard of Monon; and eight grandchildren.
A sister and four brothers are deceased.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at Chapel Cemetery
near Monon with Pastor Herman Stone and Rev. Willie Prater officiating. Kellogg Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Lorena D. "Trost" Johnson
August 30, 1918 - October 25, 2003
Lorena D. "Trost" Johnson, 85, of Monon died Saturday, October 25, 2003, at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.
She was born at Monon on August 30, 1918 to Archie and Ruth L. Ogborn Brown. Her stepfather was Floyd J. Brown. She married John Eric "Hans" Trost, Sr., on April 23, 1939 in Monon. He died on January 20, 1967.
She graduated from Monon High School in 1937 and had lived in Monon all her life.
She was a secretary for Bakes Pontiac & Buick car dealership in Monticello from 1964 to 1975. She was also a homemaker.
She was a member of the Monon United Methodist Church and was a member of the former Monon Lodge Order of the Eastern Star, where she was Past Worthy Grand Matron.
Survivors include daughters Nancy Whisman of Granada Hills, Calif., and Carole (Glenn) Perry of Monon; son John Eric Trost, Jr. of Bellevue, Neb., sister June Jones of Monon; brothers Keith (Betty) Brown of Burlingame, Calif., Jack Brown of Estero, Fla., Bob (Thelma) Brown of Waldron, Ind., and Richard (Betty) Brown of Cape Coral, Fl.; eight grandchildren and five great-grand children.
One brother and one sister are deceased.
Services were on Tuesday at Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon with Rev. Matthew Pickut, officiating.
Burial was in Bedford Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Monon First Response or the Monon United Methodist Church.
Alfred G. Jordan

Alfred G. Jordan, 91, of rural Francesville, died Wednesday, December 31, 2003 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac.
He was born at Francesville on February 20, 1912 to George and Maude Ethel Casey Jordan.
He married Fern M. Baker on April 25, 1935 in Buffalo. She died December 31 [30?], 2003.
He was a farmer and lived in rural Francesville most of his life.
He attended Tippecanoe Christian Church and was a member of Paul's Chapel Church. He was a member of the Indiana Nut Grower's Association, and was a former Democrat precinct committeeman.
He was an avid grower of fruit and nut trees and enjoyed gardening, fishing and church activities.
Survivors include daughters Joyce (Joseph) Cunningham of Greenfield, Ohio, Judy K. (Jacob) Hoffman [Huffman?] of Winamac; sons Stanley (Myra) Jordan of Star City, James (Delilah) Jordan of Francesville, William C. (Ruth) Jordan of Peoria, Ill., Mark D. (Pamela) Jordan of Monticello and David N. (Kathi) Jordan of Winamac; 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren; sister Etna Cartmell of Monticello and sister-in-law Elnora Jordan.
A daughter, Janis Louise Jordan and brothers Howard Jordan and George M. Jordan are deceased.
Funeral services were Sunday, January 4, 2004, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac with Fr. James Gabhart, officiating. Burial was in McKinley Memorial Gardens in Winamac.
Memorials may be made to the Parkinson's Foundation or the American Heart Association.
Fern M. Jordan

Fern M. Jordan, 87, of rural Francesville, died Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at Pulaski County Health Care Center in Winamac.
She was born at Headlee on June 5, 1916 to George Ray and Turrissie Rex Baker.
She married Alfred G. Jordan on April 25, 1935 in Buffalo. He died on December 31, 2003.
She was a member of the Paul's Chapel Church, Pulaski Memorial Hospital Ladies Auxiliary, Happy Homemakers Home Extension Club, the Genealogy Society and Democrat Women's Club.
She lived most or her life in rural Francesville and enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, church activities and genealogy research.
Survivors include daughters Joyce (Joseph) Cunningham of Greenfield, Ohio, Judy K. (Jacob) Huffman of Winamac; sons Stanley R (Myra) Jordan of Star City, James K. (Delilah) Jordan of Francesville, William C. (Ruth) Jordan of Peoria, Ill., Mark D. (Pamela) Jordan of Monticello and David N. (Kathi) Jordan of Winamac; 23 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren; sister Iona Haskins of Monticello and brothers Harold (Alice) Baker of Irving, Texas, Ora (Alberta) Baker of Medaryville, Charles LeRoy (Martha) Baker of Walton, Lester (Mary) Baker of Monon, Chester (Viola) Baker of Winamac and Alvin (Virginia) Baker of Logansport.
A daughter Janis Louise Jordan and brothers Grove Baker and Delmar Baker are deceased.
Funeral services were Sunday, January 4, 2004 at Frain Mortuary in Winamac with Dr. James Gabhart, officiating.
Burial was at McKinley Memorial Gardens in Winamac.
