Curtis Brown Hiner
April 9, 1912 - May 25, 1991
Curtis Brown Hiner, 79, Chalmers, died Friday, May 25, at 12:10 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette.
He was born April 9,1912, to Curtis 0. and Daisy V. Brown Hiner, in Brookston. He was married Sept. 23, 1938, to Mabel Eisert, in Brookston and she survives.
He was a 1930 graduate from Brookston High School.
For the last 25 years he lived in Chalmers and prior to that he lived in Brookston.
He was co-owner with his wife, of the Mobil Station in Chalmers.
Survivors along with his wife are four sons: Jerry, Brookston, Ronald, Santa Monica, Calif.; Bradley, Indianapolis; and Bruce, Chalmers; a brother, Jewell, Steelsville, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and one great granddaughter. Two brothers and a granddaughter are deceased.
Public graveside service was conducted Tuesday, in Chalmers Community Cemetery
with the Rev. Loren Shuman officiating.
Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of the service.

Emma J. Dyer Howell
October 15, 1907 - November 24, 2000
Emma J. Dyer Howell, 93, of West Lafayette died Friday, November 24, 2000 at George Davis Manor, West Lafayette. She was born on October 15, 1907, in Brookston, to Frank and Dora Brown Dyer. She married Raymond C. Howell on Nov. 6, 1926, in Lafayette. He died on Jan. 9, 1980.
She lived in Brookston and Lafayette areas since moving from Kell, IL, in 1980.
She was a 1925 graduate of Brookston High School and attended Lafayette Business College.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Lafayette.
She is survived by a daughter Penny Blackwood of Alhambra, CA; a sister, Alma Lucas of West Lafayette and two grandchildren.
Her brother Ross and sister Violet are deceased.
Graveside services were held Saturday at IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.
Arrangements were made by Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston.
Donald L. Huffman
August 4, 1906 - December 25, 1989
Donald L. Huffman, 83, Rt.2, West Lafayette, died Monday, Dec. 25, at 11:22 a.m. in Home Hospital, Lafayette. He had been a patient there since Nov. 5th.
He was born Aug. 4,1906, to John and Tina Yelma Huffman, in White County. He was married April 27, 1931, to Ruth Curtis, in Crown Point. She survives.
He graduated from Brookston schools and was a machinist at Fairfield Manufacturing in Lafayette, retiring in 1968.
Three brothers and one son are deceased.
The funeral was today at 2 p.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Radcliffe officiating.
Orval R. Hughes
August 22, 1911 - May 2, 2003
Orval R. Hughes, 91, of Monon died Friday, May 2, 2003 at White County Memorial Hospital. He had been ill for a week.
He was born at Monon on August 22, 1911, to Leonard and Lulu Johns Hughes. He married Velma Jean McCollum at Wabash on June 21, 1946. She survives.
He attended Monon schools and was a graduate of Coyne Electrical and Radio School, Chicago.
He was employed as a meat cutter for several years and worked at area grocery stores. He worked at RCA in Monticello as a final inspector for 24 years and was retired.
He was a member of Monon First Baptist Church.
His hobbies were fishing, gardening and yard work.
Other survivors include a daughter, Leah Ann Holdcraft (Robert) Marion of Monon; grandchildren, Kirk (Becky) Holdcraft of Thornton, Ill., and Kathy (Jim) Wilkerson of Monon; four great-grandchildren and a great great-grandson.
A brother and a sister are deceased.
Funeral services were Sunday at the Monon First Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Birch officiating.
Burial was in Monon Cemetery, Monon. Kellogg Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Valeria S. Apple Hughes
September 29, 1901 - August 29, 1999
Valeria Apple Hughes, 97 of 5169 N. E. Shafer Drive, Monticello died Sunday, August 29, 1999 at White County Memorial Hospital.
She was born September 29, 1901 in Washington County, Ky., the daughter of Charles and Pearl Clark Tumey.
She had lived, owned and operated Riverview Park Resort for 50 years. She was a former member of Broad Ripple Eastern Star, Liberty Township Home Ec Club, and Telephone Pioneers of America.
She was a member of Central Christian Church in Indianapolis, and Lake Shafer Welfare Association.
She graduated from Arsnel Tech High School in Indianapolis. She had lived in Carmel before moving to the Lowe's Bridge area.
She enjoyed being with family, taking pictures and ceramics.
She was married June 22, 1929 in Mackville, Kentucky to Dale Apple. He died October 25, 1958. She then married Ted Hughes on June 10, 1968 in Mackville, Kentucky. He died June 1978.
Surviving are a son Don Apple of Monticello, a daughter Marilyn Smith of Monticello, a sister Frances Neese of Indianapolis.
She had 7 step-children, 8 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. She also had several step-grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be Thursday at 3:00 p.m. at Miller-Roscka Funeral Home in Monticello with Pastor Kenneth Apple officiating.
Burial will be in Hughes Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Miller-Roscka Funeral Home from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, and after 8:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Mary M. Tutewiler Irwin
March 21, 1909 - January 11, 1994
Mary M. Tutewiler Irwin, 84, Monticello, died Tuesday morning in St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical center, where she had been a patient since Monday. She had been a resident of St. Anthony Healthcare Center, Lafayette, since August 21, 1991.
She was born in Indianapolis on March 21; 1909, to Harry and Julia Bell Goodheart Tutewiler. She married Marion J. "Bill" Irwin in Macon, GA, on November 6 1943. He survives.
She was a 1927 graduate of Shortridge High School, Indianapolis, and a 1932 graduate of DePauw University, Greencastle.
She formerly lived in Brookston and at Rt. 2, Brookston, prior to moving to Monticello in 1978.
She was formerly employed by the Marion County Welfare Department, the Tippecanoe Welfare Department and Logansport State Hospital -
In 1979, she published a book of poetry titled "Our Time in Rhyme." She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Hour Social Club and Alpha Chi Sorority.
Surviving with her husband are a son, James W. of Lafayette; one daughter, Janie Anderson of Brookston; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Two sisters and one son are deceased.
Funeral services were at 10 a.m. today in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, the Rev. Robert Flynn officiated.
Burial was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston. Memorials can be made to the Cerebral Palsy Association.
Marion J. 'Bill' Irwin
March 9, 1907 - January 23, 2000
Marion J. "Bill" Irwin, 92, formerly of Monticello, died Sunday, Jan. 23, at White Co. Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient since Thursday.
He had been a resident of Twin Lakes Village since April 1999.
He was born March 9, 1907, to William R. and Ella M. Howell Irwin near Remington in Gilboa Township. He was married Nov. 6,1943, to Mary M. Tutewiler in Macon, Georgia, and she died Jan. 11, 1994.
He graduated from Gilboa High School in 1925 and attended Purdue's School of Agriculture for a year.
He served from 1943-45 in the U.S. Army and was a Sergeant in Co. C Infantry Training Battalion.
He had lived in Monticello since 1978, moving here from Route 2, Brookston.
He worked at Ross Gear TRW in Lafayette for 13 years, retiring Nov. 1, 1971.
He attended the First Baptist Church, Monticello.
He was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and was a 50-year member of Prairie Masonic Lodge No. 125, Rensselaer.
Survivors include a son, James W. Irwin, Lafayette; a daughter, Janie (Larry) Darling, Brookston; five grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
A son, Dennis (1972), and a brother are deceased.
Funeral services were today, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev. Mark A. Pittman officiating.
Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.
Infant Jessica Lois Jones
January 12, 2000 - January 12, 2000
Infant Jessica Lois Jones was stillborn at St Anthony's Hospital in Michigan City on Wednesday, January 12, 2000.
Her parents are Michael Jason and Vickie Ann Parks Jones of Michigan City, IN.
She has a brother, Riley Michael at home.
Other survivors include her maternal grandparents, Steven & Joanne Parks of Stegar, IL and Bob and Valerie Todd of Rensselaer. Paternal grandparents James Michael Jones of New York, N.Y. and Marilyn "Carole" Jones of Modoc, IN. Maternal great grandparents are Neil Tysen, Hemet, CA, and Paternal great grandparents Russell and Dorothy Parks of Fair Oaks, IN.
Graveside services were Thursday at Milroy Cemetery
with Rev. Brian Stefert officiating.
Kellogg Funeral Home was in charge of services.
