Lloyd L. Shoemaker
November 22, 1900 - December 23, 1992
Lloyd L. Shoemaker, 92, Chalmers, died Dec. 23, in Murdock Manor, Lafayette.
He was born Nov. 22, 1900, to Chris and Margaret Wright Shoemaker, in Cropsey, Ill. He was married May 31, 1923, to Ruth E. Naugle, in Monticello. and she died June 9, 1990.
After retiring in 1950, from farming in Chalmers area, he moved in 1968 into Chalmers.
He was a member of Monticello Christian Church and was an honorary member of Chalmers Civic Club.
Survivors include four daughters; Mrs. Cecil (Florence) Payne, Fort Wayne; Mrs. Don (Eileen) Park, Chalmers; Mrs. Charles (Betty) Byroad, Monon and Mrs. Dennis (Mary Ann) Cornett, Otterbein; three son: Perry and Kenneth, both of Lafayette and Paul Shoemaker, Chalmers; 24 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter. A daughter, brother and two great grandchildren are deceased.
The funeral was Saturday in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston with the Rev. Loren Shuman officiating.
Burial was in Chalmers Community Cemetery.
Ruth E. Naugle Shoemaker
November 12, 1903 - June 9, 1990
Ruth E. Naugle Shoemaker, 86, died Saturday, June 9, in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette.
She was born Nov. 12, 1903, to Virgil and Maggie Clegg Naugle, in Salem.She was married May 31, 1923, to Lloyd Shoemaker in Monticello.
She and her parents lived in Salem before moving to Monticello. She was a graduate of Monticello High School. She moved to Chalmers in 1923. She was a member of Monticello Christian Church.
Survivors include three sons, Perry and Kenneth, both of Lafayette and Paul, Chalmers; five daughters, Mrs. Cecil (Florence) Payne, Fort Wayne, Mrs. Jack (Margaret) Conkright, Lafayette, Mrs. Don (Eileen) Park, Chalmers, Mrs. Charles (Betty) Byroad, Monon, and Mrs. Dennis (Mary) Cornett, Otterbein; a brother, Willis Naugle, Fowler; 24 grandchildren; 38 great grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter. A sister and two half sisters are deceased.
The funeral was Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev. Maurice Davis officiating.
Burial was in Chalmers Community Cemetery.
Joseph Sietsma
January 21, 1914 - August 21, 1989
Joseph Sietsma, 75, Lafayette, known as "The Christmas Tree Man," died Monday, Aug. 21, at 2:15 a.m. in Home Hospital, where he had been a patient for a week.
Mr. Sietsma and his late wife owned and operated the Wea Pines Christmas Tree Farm for 32 years. He was a member of the Indiana Christmas Tree Association.
He was born Jan. 21, 1914, in Lafayette, and was a lifelong resident of Tippecanoe County. He attended Klondike High School.
He was married June 27, 1934, to Hattie Jane Bol, in Lafayette. She died May 7.
He worked in the heating and air conditioning business from 1945 until 1978, and was involved with his son, George, in Sietsma Heating and Air Conditioning Co. for seven years.
Mr. Sietsma was a member, past elder, deacon and Sunday school teacher at First Reformed Church. He also was a member of the building committee involved in constructing the church at 1718 N. 15th Street.
Surviving are two sons, George R. Sietsma, Battle Ground and. Paul A. Sietsma, Lafayette; and a daughter, Mrs. John (Jeanette) Shoaf, Lafayette. Also surviving, 10 grandchildren, 12 great grand children.
Service was Tuesday in First Reformed Church with the Rev. Michael VandenBerg officiating.
Interment was in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
Hippensteel Funeral Home, Lafayette, was in charge.
Raymond M. Sigman Jr.
March 14, 1927 - April 10, 1993
Raymond M. Sigman Jr., 66, Brookston, died Saturday in Home Hospital, Lafayette. He had been ill for 13 years.
He was born March 14, 1927, to Raymond M. Sigman Sr. and Rowena Lucy Sigman, in Wolcott. He was married June 30, 1950, to Sarah Tatman, in Monticello, and she survives.
He received his high school equivalency diploma in the armed forces and served in the Army from 1948 to 1950.
He lived in Brookston for 40 years.
He retired from Ross Gear in Lafayette in 1980, due to health disability.
He owned and operated the Sigman Mobile Home Park in Brookston, with his wife.
He was a member of the Brookston United Methodist Church, West Lafayette American Legion Post No. 492 and the Lafayette Moose Lodge No. 1529.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Marcia) Weston, Brookston and Mrs. Daniel (Debbie) Roberts, Clarks Hill; mother, Rowena Binder, Monticello; six brothers and a sister; four grandchildren, Mischelle DeVault, Stephanie Weston, Scott Jennings and Heather Jennings; and six step-grandchildren. Two brothers and his father are deceased.
The funeral was Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston. Pastor William Overbay officiating.
Burial in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.
Edward 'Al' Sigo Sr.
September 28, 1931 - August 5, 1997
Edward "Al" Sigo, Jr., 65, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, at 1:45 p.m. at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. He had been hospitalized since July 9.
He was born Sept. 28, 1931, to Victor and Gabriella Dluzak Sigo, in Remington. He was married June 30, 1956, to Mary Ann Richardson, and was divorced in 1980.
He was a 1949 graduate of Remington High School.
He served in the Air Force from Jan. 1951 through Jan. 1955, in the 1094th USAF SPREPTRON HEDCOM, Manano Base, New Mexico.
He was employed as an operator at REA Magnet Wire Co., Lafayette and retired in 1992, after 33 years of service.
He is survived by three sons, Edward A. Jr., Chalmers; Rodger L, Brookston and Robert B., West Lafayette; a daughter, Catherine M., West Lafayette; a brother, Ralph (Mose), Wolcott; a sister, Patricia Caskie, Madison, Alabama; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday at the Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston.
Burial was in the Pretty Prairie Cemetery, Battle Ground.
Memorials may be given to the charity of choice.
Carl R. Siler
August 21, 1921 - March 2, 1987
Carl R. Siler, 65, died at 8 a.m. Monday, March 2, in his home at 3332 Division Road, West Lafayette. He had been in failing health for the last four years.
He was born to James and Emma Chandler Siler in Harlan, Kentucky, Aug. 21, 1921. He lived in the West Lafayette area for the last seven and a half years. He was married to Hazel B. Sams, Sept. 4, 1979, who survives.
He had been a coal miner and long-distance truck driver and also operated a filling station for several years near Oak Ridge, Tenn. He was an Army veteran of World War II and attended Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Lafayette.
Surviving with his wife are three sons, James, Seattle, Wash.; Billy Ray, Waller, Texas; and Wayne, Oliver Springs, Tenn.; and four daughters, Mrs. Shirley Tankersley, Oak Ridge, Tenn.; Mrs. Colleen Bailey, Pearlblossom, Calif.; Mrs. Leatha Josephson, Freemont, Calif.; and Mrs. Glenna Henderson of Rockwood, Tenn.; 18 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren. Two brothers and one sister are deceased.
Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Hartzler Funeral Home at Brookston with Don Stidham officiating. Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery
at Romney.
Lorene Simmons
August 4, 1915 - September 17, 1999
Lorene Milliner Simmons, 84, of Monon, died Friday, Sept. 17, at Jasper Co. Hospital.
She was born Aug. 4, 1915, to Lee and Ida Quiggins Ray, in Elizabethtown, Kentucky. She was married June 10, 1967, to Clevie Simmons, in Reynolds, and he survives.
She had lived in the White County area most of her life and was a member of the Monon First Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Emmert (Oleda) Dennis of Bloomington, Ill., Mrs. Scottie (Shirley) Cook of Rensselaer and Mrs. Roger (Brenda) Kyburz, Monticello; a stepson, Don (Glenda) Simmons, Monon; two sisters, Velarie Dudgeon and Alene Ray, both of Elizabethtown, Ky.; two brothers, Hubert and Herbert Ray of Big Cliff, Ky.; 14 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren.
Two sisters, a brother and grandson are deceased.
Funeral service was Monday at Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, with the Rev. Steve Birch officiatmg.
Burial was in Chalmers Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Monon First Response.
Liona Braskie Simmons
August 1, 1905 - January 18, 1999
Liona Braskie Simmons, 93, died Monday, Jan. 18, at Monticello Healthcare Center.
She was born Aug. 1, 1905, in Floyd County, Virginia.
She had lived in Indiana for 68 years. She retired from RCA in Monticello in 1967, after working there for 25 years.
Survivors include three sons, Clevie Simmons, Monon; Dale Simmons, Lafayette and Max Simmons, Monticello; a daughter, Sue Heinman, Newtown, Pa., a daughter-in-law, Ellen Simmons, Monticello; eight grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, a grandson, three brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home with the Rev. James R. Copeland officiating. No visitation scheduled.
Burial will be at Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Shirley Jane Dunn Simpson
April 1, 1923 - May 1, 2000
Shirley Jane Dunn Simpson, 77, of Indianapolis, a former Monon resident, died Monday, May 1, 2000 at Manor Care South, Indianapolis.
She was born in Indianapolis on April 1, 1923, to Cecil and Gay A. Acklen Dunn. She married Hubert E. Simpson in Indianapolis on July 23, 1950. He is de ceased.
She was a 1941 graduate of Washington High School.
She was a secretary for the Indianapolis Board of Education and retired in 1971.
She was a member of Monticello Christian Church and a former member of Speedway Christian Church.
She was a member of Pearl Harbor Survivors Auxiliary and the Indianapolis Order of Eastern Star 669.
She is survived by a daughter. Shirley L. (John) Bradshaw of New Market, MD; her mother, Gay A. (Acklen) Dunn of Indianapolis; sisters, Jean Jackson of Speedway and Marilyn Stumph of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Michele L. Robinson of Ellicott City. MD, and Jeffrey J. Bradshaw of Cockeysville, MD; and great-grandchild, Rachel L. Robinson of Ellicott City, MD.
A great-grandchild, Samuel J. Robinson, is deceased.
Funeral service was May 4, 2000 at Flanner and Buchanan Speedway Mortuary; the Rev. Don Arterbum officiated.
Entombment was in Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.
