Donald E. Scott
September 3, 1933 - April 14, 2002
Donald E. Scott, 68, a former Buffalo resident, died Sunday, April 14, 2002 at his residence, following a long battle with cancer.
He was born in Buffalo on September 3, 1933, to Raymond and Helen Scott. He married Ruth L. Staroski in Germany on March 17, 1956.
He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1952 and served 23 years before his discharge in 1975. He was a communications supervisor for the U. S. Air Force.
Other survivors include a daughter, Diana (Michael) Turner of Hot Springs, S.D.; son, Donald E. II (Nancy) Scott of Rapid City; brothers, Orlo Scott of Monticello, Robert Scott and 0. Richard Leis, both of Buffalo, and William Leis of Norway; sisters, Charlotte Rater of Monon and Linda "Sue" Delk of Da1eville; and six grandchildren.
His father Raymond Scott and his mother Helen Leis are deceased
Funeral services were at Kirk Funeral Home, Rapid City, S.D. with Rev. Tim Coats officiating.
Burial with military honors was at the Black Hills National Cemetery
in Sturgis, S.D.
Homer S. Scott
December 12, 1918 - August 10, 1999
Word has been received of the death of Homer S. Scott, 80, of Anderson, a former Buffalo resident, who died August 10, at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born Dec. 12, 1918, to Harvey and Faye Hughes Scott.
He lived most of his youth in Buffalo.
He was a US. Army veteran of World War II. He was employed all his life as a carpenter.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Pearce Scott of Anderson; four children, Richard Scott, Terry Scott and Debra Arms, all of Anderson and Doug Scott of Lafayette; two sisters, Doris Oldfield of Anderson and Iva Jean Halsema of Monticello and five grandchildren. Five brothers and a sister are deceased.
Services were conducted in Anderson. Burial with military graveside rites were at Anderson Memorial Park.
Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home of Anderson was in charge of arrangements.
Homer C. Scott
February 27, 1930 - April 10, 2003
Homer C. Scott, 73, of Monticello died Thursday, April 10, 2003, at his residence.
He was born in Cumberland County, Kentucky, on February 27, 1930, to Albert Lee and Bertha McIntyre Scott. He married Genevieve Frazier at Dyer on July 17, 1953. She survives.
He served in the U. S. Army.
He worked as a skilled laborer for Ford Motor Company in Chicago Heights, Ill.
He attended the Buffalo Christian Church.
He was a member of the American Legion, VFW and Eagles Lodge. He played music at the VFW and Eagles in Monticello, Logansport and Lafayette. He enjoyed playing the guitar and racing stock cars.
Other survivors include a daughter, Gail C. Latta, of Monticello, brothers, Malcolm Scott of Mesa, Arizona and Willie (Evelyn) Bean of Thayer; three grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Two brothers and two sisters are deceased.
Funeral services were Monday at the Fisher-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home in Monticello with Rev. Bruce Hurley officiating.
Burial was in Hughes Cemetery
south of Buffalo.
Phillip A. Scott
October 13, 1936 - February 13, 1998
Word has been received of the death of Phillip A. Scott, 61, of Lindale, Texas, a former Brookston resident, who died Friday, Feb. 13, at 7:44 am. at his residence.
He was born Oct. 13, 1936, to Herbert and Mildred Iliff Scott, in Fairmount. He married Dolores Robbins, Dec. 28, 1957, and she survives.
He attended high school in Brookston. He moved to Canandaigua, N.Y. in 1953 and graduated from high school there in 1954.
He worked for Kordite and Bonar Packaging before retiring with a disability in 1994.
He moved to Tyler, Texas in 1965.
He is survived by his wife; three sons; a daughter; a brother, George (Bud) Scott of Remington; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services and burial were held in Texas.
Memorials may be given to the Heart Fund or the American Cancer Society.
Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home, Lindale, Texas, was in charge of arrangements.
Virginia Aleen Scott
July 11, 1920 - January 4, 2003
Virginia Aleen Scott, 82, of Monticello, died Saturday, January 4, 2003, at Twin Lakes Village.
She was born on July 11, 1920, in Boone County, to Charles and Effie Virture Baker.
She was a 1938 graduate of Tech High School in Indianapolis.
Her first marriage was to William Hill, who died in 1994. Her second marriage was to Howard Scott, who died in 1998.
She moved to Lake Shafer in Monon in 1978, and worked for Indiana Beach for several years.
She was a Cubs fan and loved playing cards.
Surviving are a son,, James R. Hill, of Lafayette; daughters, Jean M. (Jack) Snider of Monticello and Joyce E. (John) Wilkinson of Lake Barrington, IL; brother, John H. Baker of Indianapolis; 10 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
The funeral was Tuesday, January 7, 2003 at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, with Rev. James Goodrum officiating.
Burial was in Bedford Cemetery, Monon.
Memorials may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of Indiana.
Virgil W. Scowden
March 7, 1914 - June 29, 2001
Virgil W. Scowden, 87, Williamsport, a former Battle Ground resident, died Friday, June 29, at Country Care, Williamsport. He had been in failing health for the past year.
He was born March 7, 1914, to Everett and Goldie Emerich Scowden, in Americus.
He was a 1933 graduate of Battle Ground High School and moved from Battle Ground to Williamsport in 1970.
He was an antique dealer, appraiser, interior decorator and wallpaper hanger. He restored old churches and other buildings and sold antiques from his home in Battle Ground and later in Williamsport.
Surviving are many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Five brothers, Vene, Vole, James Glen and Rudolph Scowden, are deceased.
Funeral services were Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev. Cleo Ewing officiating.
Burial was in Pretty Prairie Cemetery
near Battle Ground.
Memorials may be given to the charity of the donor's choice.
Roy G. Scruggs
December 24, 1923 - February 12, 1995
Roy G. Scruggs, 71, 410 S. Davis St., Brookston, died Sunday morning, Feb. 12, at Home Hospital, Lafayette.
He was born Dec. 24, 1923 in Clinton, TN to Bert and Carrie Ridenour Scruggs. He married Wilma K. Hague on July 25, 1942 in Lafayette, and she survives.
He served 35 years as a firefighter. He was the former fire chief of the Prairie Township Volunteer Fire Department. He owned and operated the Conoco Service Station. He was a maintenance worker and janitor at the Brookston school for 20 years before retiring in Dec. 1986.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.
His family moved to Indiana when he was 15 months old. He graduated from Round Grove Township High School in 1942.
Surviving with his wife are one daughter, Sharon Scruggs of Friendswood, TX; two sons, Glenn of Brookston and Bruce of Huntsville, TX; one sister, Mrs. Warren (Margaret) Oilar of Brookston; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A son, Vernon, and a brother, Edward Scruggs, are deceased.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, the Rev. Lelan McReynolds officiating. A firefighter's memorial service was scheduled for 8 p.m. Wednesday. Feb. 15.
Burial will be at the Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Prairie Township Volunteer Fire Department, Brookston.
Betty E. Sears
March 24, 1924 - September 18, 1998
Betty Ellen Downs Sears, 74, formerly of Crawfordsville, died Sept. 18, at Gaston Memorial Hospital, Gastonia, N.C.
She was born March 24, 1924, to Homer and Edith Austin Downs, in White County.
She was a retired receptionist for Dr. Richard Eggers.
She is survived by three sons, Jerry of Lebanon; Terry of Indianapolis and Don of Centralia, Ill.; two daughters, Connie Gaviola, Crawfordsville and Kathy Romig of Gastonia, NC.; 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son and a brother.
Graveside services were Tuesday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery
in Brookston, with the Rev. Leland McReynolds officiating.
Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge.
