Burden 'Solly' Salomon
January 24, 1927 - October 14, 1999
Burdell E. "Solly" Salomon. 72, of Reynolds, died at 3:48 p.m., Thursday. Oct. 14, 1999, at Home Hospital, Lafayette.
He was born Jan. 24, 1927, to Carl F. and Mabel Moore Salomon, in Monticello. He was married Sept. 9, 1956, to Glenda J. Pyle. in Monticello. She survives.
He graduated from Monticello High School and attended Purdue University, where he was named Outstanding Ag Student during his freshman year.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in Germany during World War II and in Korea :during the Korean Conflict. He received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
He opened Solly's Restaurant in Reynolds in 1952, and owned and operated the restaurant until his retirement in 1995.
He dedicated his life to the betterment of the Reynolds community. He served on the former Reynolds Economic Develop ment Commission and was instrumental in starting the Reynolds Youth Baseball League, which he also helped sponsor for many years. He was also instrumental in the building of the Reynolds Recreational Complex.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Monticello.
He was a 49-year member of the Chalmers American Legion Post and was a charter member of the Reynolds VFW Post.
Surviving with his wife are two daughters. Mrs. Larry (Gail) Monnett, Brookston and Mrs. James (Amy) Borgetti of Saint John: three sons. Stephan E. (Julie) Salomon, Reynolds, Fritz C. (Melissa) Salomon, Monticello and William F. Salomon, Lafayette; two sisters, Mrs. William (Lois) Paugh of Rushville and Mrs. David (Nancy) Elmore of New Hampshire; five grandsons, Neil Salomon, Robbie Salomon, Scott Borgetti, David Borgetti and Carl Salomon; and three granddaughters, Kathy Salomon, Sarah Borgetti and Michelle Salomon.
Funeral services were Sunday at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Monticello, with the Rev. James R. Copeland officiating
Burial, with military rites, was at Riverview IOOF Cemetery, Monticello.
Memorials may be given to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Reynolds Recreational Complex or the Reynolds United Methodist Church.
John C. Sanbloom
August 24, 1904 - March 11, 1997
John C. Sanbloom, 92, West Lafayette, formerly of R.2, Brookston, had lived at the manor since May 1996. He died Tuesday, March 11, at 3:25 p.m. in George Davis Manor, West Lafayette..
He was born August 24, 1904, to Gus and Mable Colson Sanbloom, in Tippecanoe County. He was married February 21, 1932, to Francis Revis at the Badger Grove Church
He was a farmer, retiring in 1969. He also was a Pioneer Seed salesman, retiring in June 1981, after 35 years.
He was a member of the Badger Grove Community Baptist Church and a member of the Octogan Masonic Lodge No. 511 and High 12. He received his 50-year pin in 1976.
Survivors include an adopted daughter, Mrs. George (Helen) Allyn, Lafayette; a sister, Hulda Nelson, Brookston; several nieces and nephews; three grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A brother and two sisters are deceased.
Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the Badger Grove Community Baptist Church with the Rev. Ralph McVay and the Rev. Eugene Parker officiating.
Burial was in the Tippecanoe Memory Gardens in West Lafayette.
Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of the services.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Badger Grove Community Baptist Church.
Opal Sanbloom
January 19, 1909 - April 22, 2000
Opal M. Christopher Sanbloom, 91, a former Brookston resident, died Saturday, April 22, 2000, at George Davis Manor. She was born Jan. 19, 1909, to William and Jennie Brown Christopher, in Brookston. She was married Feb. 11, 1931, to Ernest O. Sanbloom, near Badger Grove. He died on April 16, 1993.
She was a homemaker who moved to Brookston from Chalmers in 1983 and moved to the George David Manor in 1997.
She graduated in 1926 from Brookston High School.
She was a member of the Badger Grove Community Baptist Church and Missionary Society.
She was a former member of West Point Home Demonstration Club and a former 4-H leader.
She is survived by sons, Robert and Richard Sanbloom of Brookston; daughter Shirley (David) Kesler, West Lafayette; four grandchildren, Peggy Bryant, Colleen Eastis, Rae Jeanne Sanbloom and Brad Sanbloom and two great grandchildren Todd and Cara Eastis.
She was preceded in death by a sister and three brothers.
Funeral service was Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev. Bob Stokes officiating.
Burial was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette. Memorials may be given to the Badger Grove Community Baptist Church.
Opal Sue Sandefur
October 7, 1921 - November 22, 1998
Mrs. Opal Sue Gilbert Sandefur, 77. of Mocksville, North Carolina, formerly of Monon, passed away early Sunday, Nov. 22, 1998, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.
Mrs. Sandefur was born Oct 7, 1921, in Claiborne County, Tenn. To the late Franklin Roscoe and Nola Marie Williams Gilbert and was preceded in death by an infant brother Burton Gilbert. She moved to North Carolina in 1986, and was a retail sales clerk and was employed with Walmart for the past 6 years.
She was a member of Turrenline Baptist Church. Mrs. Sandefur was greatly loved and will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Surviving are her husband of 58 years, James Roy Sandefur; a daughter, Patsy Roach and husband David of Mocksville; a granddaughter, Carroll Roach of Atlanta, Ga.; six sisters, Edith Brooks of Harrogate, Tenn., Geneva Shackelford of Simmsonville, S.C.; Bea Monday of Brooksville, IN.; Thelma Ray, Bobbie Burke and Frankie Crawford all of Monroe, MI.; three brothers, Roy Gilbert of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Harry Gilbert of Huron, OH and Marvin Gilbert of Zionsville, IN.; several nieces and nephews.
Services were Tuesday, Nov. 24, at 11 a.m. in Terrentine Baptist Church with the Dr. Gary Chapman and the Rev. Billy Slope officiating.
Burial followed in the church cemetery. The Dade Funeral Home was in charge.
Josephine Ann Sari
August 10, 1953 - June 5, 1997
Josephine Ann Sari, 43, Cincinnati, Ohio, died Thursday, June 5, at 9 p.m. in Franciscan Hospital. Mt Airy Campus, Cincinnati. She was born Aug. 10, 1953, to Bogdon S. and Jane Hansell Mareachen, in Lafayette. She was married to Bouchaib Sari and he survives.
She was a graduate of Jefferson High School and Purdue University.
She was a library media specialist at North College Hill High School. Prior to that she was employed at Connersville High School.
Surviving are her husband; her parents; two sisters, Cathy Heavilin and Ruth Heinimann; a brother-in-law, Scott Heise; a nephew, Andrew Heavilin; and two nieces, Anya and Lexi Heinimann.
She was preceded in death by two sisters.
Funeral services were Monday at 1 p.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston.
Burial was in Chalmers Community Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Purdue Foundation/Mareachen/Slezak Alumni Scholarship Fund in memory of Josephine Ann Sari.
Gregory D. Sartwell
November 23, 1989 - January 3, 2001
Gregory Dean Sartwell, 11, of Wooster, Ohio, a relative of local Residents died Wednesday, January 3,2001 at his residence.
He was born in Lafayette, IN on November 23, 1989, to Harry R. and Cindy L. Ziemer Sartwell.
He was a student at Ida Sue School.
Surviving are his father and stepmother, Harry and Tracy Sartwell of Wooster, OH; his mother of Lakeland, FL; parental grandparents, Samuel and Barbara Maxwell of Lakeland, FL; maternal grandparents, Mary and Everett Ziemer of Monon; maternal great grandparents Steve and Linda Brougham of Maurertown, VA and Joyce and Leo Boucher of Palmer, Mass; maternal step great grandfathers Pete Broughman of Clifton Forge, VA and Dempsey Laudermilk of Lowmoor, VA, six brothers and sisters, Teresa Eaten of Hudson, FL, Amy Sartwell of Brookston, Melissa Runk of Brookston and Adrienne Randall and Kaitlyn Sartwell all at home; and a step brother, Christopher Broughman at home.

Edward C. Sayler
April 6, 1918 - June 25, 1992
Edward C. Sayler, 74, Monticello, died Thursday, June 25, at Tioga Pines Living Center. He had been ill several years and seriously ill two years.
He was born in Morocco on April 6, 1918 to James R. and Reva May Atkinson Sayler. On April 8,1943 he married Marjorie E. Trinosky in Crown Point, she survives.
He graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1938 and lived in Rensselaer most of his life. In 1950 he came to Monticello. He was involved in farming most of his life and worked in the steel mills of Gary for five years.
He was a member of the Eagles Lodge of Monon.
Also surviving are four sans, Dale E., Kankakee, IL, James A., Idaville, Fred L., Burnettsville, and John D., Monticello; three daughters, Mrs. Charles (Bonnie Jo) Ehrlich, Battle Ground, Mrs. Gary (Tressa K) Quasebarth, Burnettsville, Mrs. Mark (Taminy L.) Seward, Wolcott; eight sisters, Jean Young, Miami, FL, Jeneva Norris, St. Joseph, MI, Linda Norris, Monticello, Marcella Deno, Monon, Virginia Norris, Santa Monica, CA, Mary Cottrell, Logansport, Beatrice Hardeman and Arlene Hay both of South Bend; four brothers, Tom, Miami, FL, James R, Rensselaer, Verne and Jack, Valparaiso. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; several step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.
One sister, brother and one grandson are deceased.
The funeral was Sunday, June 28, at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, the Rev. Alvin Rockey officiating. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery.

Robert J. Schelle
March 19, 1913 - April 1, 1991
Robert J. Schelle, 78, died Monday, April 1, in his at 205 Argold Drive, Brookston, after a lengthy illness.
He was born March 19, 1913, in Lafayette. He was married June 12, 1937, to Kathryn Anthrop in St Boniface Catholic Church in Lafayette. She survives.
He graduated from Brookston High School and attended Purdue University.
He. was a grain and livestock farmer, and retired in 1979. After retiring, he enjoyed rose gardening.
He was a charter member of Blessed Sacrament Church, West Lafayette, and a member of the church's "60 Club." He was a former member of White Co. Farm Bureau, Catholic Order of Foresters and Grange.
Also surviving are three children: Mrs. Mike (Carolyn) Klinker, Manhattan, Kansas; Mrs. Leo (Kay) Klemme, West Lafayette and Robert F. Schelle, Lafayette, and two sisters, Mrs. Mary E. Todd Brenner, Villa Park, Ill. and Mrs. Margaret Oberle, Highland. Eight grandchildren also survive.
Funeral Mass was at noon today, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Father Robert Sell and Father Donald Hardebeck officiating.
Interment at St. Boniface Cemetery.
