Bernard H. Graser
January 1, 1914 - June 26, 2001
Bernard H. Graser, 90, father of Frontier School Corp. Superintendent Bernie T. Graser, died Tuesday, June 26, at Rosewalk Village, Lafayette. He was a resident of Waterloo, Iowa and had resided at Rosewalk Village for one year.
He was born Jan. 1, 1914, to Louis and Alvina Albright Graeser, in Waverly, Iowa. He was married Aug. 7, 1938, to Helen Terry, in Waverly, Iowa. She died Feb. 3, 1977.
He graduated in 1929 from Waverly High School and attended Northern Iowa University.
He was employed as a chemist and retired in December 1976 after 30 years with Rath Meat Packing. He also farmed prior to retirement.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Waterloo, Iowa.
Surviving are a son, Bernie T. (Jackie) Graser, West Lafayette; two daughters, Sandra (Robert) Schauer of Cypress, Texas and Karen (Robert) Lindstrom, Minneapolis; a brother, Virgil Graeser of Waverly, Iowa; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
A brother, Albert Graeser is deceased.
Funeral services were held Saturday, at 10 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Waterloo, with the Rev. Norman Stubbendick officiating. The Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Home, Waterloo, Iowa, was in charge.
Burial will be in Harlington Municipal Cemetery, Waverly, Iowa.
Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of local arrangements.
Memorials may be given to the Bernard H. Graser Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Pearl Jean Graves
March 10, 1922 - November 30, 2002
Pearl Jean Graves, 80, formerly of Monon, died Saturday, November 30, 2002, at Monticello Healthcare and Assisted Living. She had been ill for several months.
She was born in Francesville on March 10, 1922, to Victor and Louise Clerget Moncel. She married George Graves in 1988. He died in 1997.
She lived in Monon most of her life.
She was retired from General Foods in Lafayette, where she worked as a fork lift operator for 10 years.
She was a member of the Monon Eagles, the American Legion of Lafayette and the VFW of Lafayette.
Surviving are sons Elbert (Linda) Cummings of Elkhart and Dale (Sharon) Cummings of Linden; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Grace Pauley of Monon and Dorothy Briles of Chesterton.
One son, Fred Cummings, and one grandson, five brothers and four sisters are deceased.
Services were at Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon on Tuesday with Rev. Steve Birch officiating.
Burial was in Bedford Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to hospice or the American Heart Association.
Marjorie A. Rowe Gray
May 15, 1932 - August 18, 1997
Marjorie A. Rowe Gray, 65, 4001 Oak Lane, Lafayette, died Monday, August 18, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. She had been ill since 1989.
She was born May 15, 1932 in Glenwood, Illinois to Gilbert and Johanna Friedrich Rowe. She married Lester Gray on June 5, 1960.
She was a graduate of Brookston High School.
She was retired from the State Farm Insurance Regional Office in Lafayette, IN, after 36 years.
Surviving with her husband are 2 daughters, Kathy Thelen, Carmel, IN and Debra Slanec, Lafayette, IN; 2 sons, Gary Gray, West Lafayette, IN, and Michael Gray, Lafayette, IN; 1 sister, Susan Thomson of Hialeah, FL; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert "Gib" and Johanna Rowe, and brother, Donald Rowe.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. today at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Rev. Lelan McReynolds officiating.
Entombment will be in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette, IN.
Franklin L. Gregory
January 12, 1927 - July 26, 2002
Franklin L. Gregory, 75, of Buck Creek, died Friday, July 26. He had been ill four years.
He was born Jan. 12, 1927, in Lafayette, he was a lifelong resident. He married Grace L. Minniear, July 8, 1949, in Louisville, Kentucky, and she survives.
He was a truck driver for 40 years for Fauber Construction and Spiker Oil.
He served in the Army Infantry during World War II in the Philippines and received three Major Battalion Stars, one Arrowhead, an Asiatic Pacific theater Ribbon, a Marksman Rifle, A combat Infantry Badge, A Silver Star, A Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1154, Eagles Aerie 2788, Moose Lodge 1529, Disabled American Veterans, the Purple Heart Club, serving as commander for seven years, the military Order of VFW Cooties, 40 & 8 Voiture 364 and Delphi American Legion Post 74. He enjoyed NASCAR racing and sports.
Surviving with his wife are two sons, Melvin Gregory of Lafayette and Thomas L. Gregory (wife, Sylvia) of Monon; a brother Thomas R. Gregory of Attica and a sister, Marion Hayes of Lafayette. Also 3 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
There will be a private graveside service. Hippensteel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Adam "Spike" Griffin
September 25, 1941 - March 21, 2003
Adam L. "Spike" Griffin, 61, of Monon, died Friday, March 21, 2003 at his residence.
He was born on September 25, 1941, in Reynolds, to Lloyd M. and Laura Walters Griffin.
He was a 1961 graduate of Wolcott High School. He served as a private in the U.S. Army.
He was a lifetime resident of the White County area.
He was employed for 25 years at Wilson Meat Packing, Logansport, and was retired.
He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Monticello and Redmen Lodge in Monticello.
Surviving are his mother, of Wolcott; daughters, Karen S. (Dennis) Burcham of Monon and Brema Griffin of Lafayette; a son Lloyd Griffin of Monticello; sisters, Thelma (Robert) Barrett of Wolcott and Velma (Jerry) Spear of Reynolds; and five grandchildren.
A brother and two sisters are deceased.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday at Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon with Rev. Steve Birch officiating.
Burial was in Osborne Cemetery, Rensselaer.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Lucille Griffin
April 5, 1910 - May 8, 1997
Lucille Grandstaff Griffin, 87, former Brookston resident, died Thursday, May 8, at 3:05 p.m. in St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center in Lafayette.
She had resided at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center in Delphi, for three years.
She was born April 5,1910, to Clyde and Dora Baker Grandstaff, near Frankfort.
She graduated in 1928, from Battle Ground High School and had lived in Brookston since 1942. She retired in 1974, from Duncan Meter, Lafayette.
She was a member of the Brookston Federated Church.
Survivors include two grandchildren, Michael J. Barnes, Lafayette and Mrs. Don (Elizabeth "Betsy") Kressley, Delphi; a sister, Pearl Wilson, Lafayette and four great grandchildren.
A daughter and two sisters are deceased.
Funeral services were Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev. Lelan McReynolds officiating.
Burial was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Brookston.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Brookston Federated Church.
E. Gertrude Gudeman
April 8, 1917 - March 5, 2001
E. Gertrude "Gerty" Gudeman, 83, of Monon, died Monday, March 5, 2001, at Home Hospital, Lafayette. She had been ill for three years.
She was born in Pulaski County on April 8, 1917. to Bert Nathan and Effie M. Combs Morris. She married Walter Q. Gudeman on June 15, 1946, in Kentland. He died on July 20. 1985.
She was a 53-year resident of the Monon community.
She was a homemaker. She was a waitress for several years at the Green Gables restaurant in Reynolds and the South Side Restaurant in Monon. She was also employed as a secretary at Ward Stone Co., in Monon and Medussa Aggregates in Francesville.
She was a member of Monon Community Church.
She was a former member of both the Woman of the Moose Lodge in Monticello and the Home Ec Club of Monon.
Surviving are a son, Larry (Sharon) Sims of Buffalo; a daughter Joni (Kevin) Diener of Monticello; three sisters, Beatrice Hunt and Bernice Reynolds, both of Monticello; a brother, Bill Morris of Monon; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
One brother and a grandson are deceased
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Thursday at Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Don Newman officiating
Burial will be at Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.
