Edith G. Kaufman
September 3, 1903 - May 21, 1987
Edith Geneva Kelley Kaufman, 84, a resident of Brookston since 1964, died 9:05 p.m., May 21, in St Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi.
She was born Sept. 3, 1903, in Battle Ground. She moved to Brookston from Klondike in 1964.
She was married to Harry Charles Kaufman, Feb. 4, 1923 in Battle Ground. He died August 23, 1978.
Mrs. Kaufman was a member of Brookston Federated Church, the Philathea Sunday school class and Liberty Chapel Friendship Club.
Surviving are two daughters, Lou Anna Rodenbarger of R.2, Delphi and Mrs. Everett L. (Dorothy) Rosenbarger of Brookston. Also surviving are five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a stepgrandson and five stepgreat-grandchildren. A number of brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
Services were Saturday, at 2 p.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Revs. B. James Walter and Donald Ashley officiating. Interment was in Battle Ground Cemetery.
Eula Mae (Hurn) Kelly
May 7, 1915 - June 25, 2002
Eula Mae (Hurn) Kelly, 87, of Scottsdale, Ariz., a former Chalmers resident, died Tuesday, June 25, 2002, at her home.
She was born at Corydon on May 7, 1915, to Levi and Nettie Melton Hurn. She married Otto (Charles) Kelly at New Albany on February 21, 1934. He died May 12, 1973.
She was a graduate of Corydon High School.
She was a long time resident of Chalmers. She had lived in Arizona for 1 1/2 years.
She was a homemaker.
Survivors include daughters, Lola Mae (George) Gnatovich of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Patricia Kay (Richard) Keiser of Williamsburg, Va.; three grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
Funeral Services were Sunday at Hartzler Funeral Home with Rev. Jan Dimick officiating.
Burial was in Chalmers Cemetery.
Florence Nina Kelly
November 16, 1909 - December 24, 1998
Florence Nina Kelly, 89, formerly of Reynolds. died Thursday, Dec. 24, 1998 at 5:15 p.m. at the Monticello Healthcare Center where she had resided since August of 1997.
She was a lifelong resident of the Reynolds area.
She was born Nov. 16, 1909 in White County to Myron Roy and Nellie Piatt Eddy. She married Monroe Kelly, Jr. on Sept 1, 1929 in Monticello. He died Nov. 6, 1976.
She attended Reynolds High School.
She attended the Christian Church, Reynolds, and was a member of the Mt Zion Baptist Church, Wolcott.
She was a member of the Women of the Moose, Monticello.
Surviving are a daughter; Virginia R. (Kelly) Walton of Indianapolis, four sons, Richard D. Kelly of Chalmers, Robert L. Kelly of Reynolds, Dale W. Kelly of Monticello and Raymond E. Kelly of Battle Ground; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren.
Two sisters are deceased.
Funeral services were Monday at Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon with the Rev. Richard T. McQuinn officiating.
Burial was in Chalmers Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
L. Bernice Kelly
May 13, 1914 - August 17, 1990
L. Bernice Kelly, 76, R.1, Chalmers, died Friday, Aug. 17, at 8 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette.
She was born May 13, 1914, to Jesse and Leah Shigley Wakeman, in Indianapolis. She was married Jan. 10, 1935, to Harmon D. Kelly, in Monticello. He died June 29, 1983.
She graduated from Chalmers High School in 1932..
She was a homemaker and had been employed at Purdue. She spent the winter in Florida for the past 10 years.
She was a member of the Chalmers Community Church, the WCF and Afternoon Circle of the Church, Charming Chatty's Home Extension Club, Chalmers Hook Club, Lafayette 'YWCA, Frontier Senior Citizens Club and Twin Lake Senior Citizens Club and the Trailer Estates Covenant Church in Florida.
Surviving are two sons, Jim, R.1, Chalmers and Max, West Lafayette; two daughters, Mrs. Herb (Carol Lee) Hick, R.5, Monticello, and Mrs. Charles (Mary Lou) Deno, R.4, Monticello; 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
The funeral was Monday in the Chalmers Community Church with the Rev Loren Shuman officiating. Hartzler Funeral Home in Brookston, was in charge of the service.
Burial was in Chalmers Community Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Chalmers Community Church and the Chalmers Book Club.
Betty J. Kesler
August 8, 1933 - September 13, 1999
Betty J. Kesler, 66, Buffalo died at White County Memorial Hospital at 4:20 p.m. on Monday, September 13, 1999 following a 2 month illness.
She was born August 8, 1933 in Rensselaer. the daughter of Frank and Dorothy Lucille Pearson Doyle. She married Charles "Dick" Kesler on December 7, 1951 in Monticello and he survives.
She was a homemaker and had retired from Monon Corporation after 22 years.
She is survived by five daughters: Donna Dallinger, Monticello; Diana Hickman, Buffalo; Darlene Shidler, Monon; Dina Newkirk. Francesville, Denise Rusk of' Monticello and two sons; Doug Kesler, Honolulu, Hawaii and Dwayne Kesler of Wolcott. Other survivors include two brothers, Leroy Doyle, Monon and Richard Doyle, Monticello and four sisters; Verna Ashby, Wolcott; Ruth Ann Mitchell, Atlanta, GA; Connie Harmon, Monticello; and Linda Houser, Chalmers. She had 23 grandchildren. Two brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be at the Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon at 11:00 am. on Thursday, September 16, 1999 with Rev. William Kehlhofer officiating. Burial will be in Bedford Cemetery
Friends may call at the Kellogg Funeral Home after 5:00 p.m. today.

Alyne B. Hicks Lucas
November 5, 1911 - May 19, 1992
Alyne B. Hicks Lucas, 80, Chalmers, died Tuesday, May 19, in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette. She was admitted, Monday.
She was born Nov. 5, 1911, to George E. and Oma Belle Atkinson Hicks, in Chalmers. She was married Sept. 2, 1930, to Manden Lucas in Monticello, and he survives.
She graduated in 1930, from Chalmers High School.
She worked as. a seamstress at St. Elizabeth Hospital, and was retired.
She was a member of Chalmers Community Church and a 50 year member of the Women's Christian Fellowship of the church. She was a former pianist and sang in the church choir.
Other survivors are two daughters. Mrs. Kenneth (Colleen) Young, Fowler and Mrs. Stephen (Debra) Herget, Brookston; a son, Royce, Brookston; nine grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and a great-great grandson. One son, two grandchildren and four sisters are deceased.
The funeral was today at Chalmers Community Church with the Rev. Loren Shuman officiating. Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, was in charge of the service.
Inurnment was at Chalmers Community Cemetery.
Manden Cecil Lucas
September 9, 1909 - September 13, 1997
Manden Cecil Lucas, 88, formerly of Chalmers, died Saturday, Sept. 13, at 2:50 p.m. in Monticello Healthcare Center.
He was born Sept. 9, 1909, to Tilman J. and Linme A. Mahin Lucas, in Battle Ground. He was married Sept. 2, 1930, to Alyne B. Hicks, in Monticello, and she died May 19, 1992.
He graduated in 1928 from Chalmers High School and was a graduate of Federated Arts School and Washington School of Arts.
He was a member of the Chalmers Community Church.
He was a member ot the Monticello Art Association and was the former Bulletin editor for the Brookston Optimist Club and former Chalmers Boy Scout Master.
He designed the Chalmers Centennial Plate and cover for the Centennial book "1873-1973 Celebration."
He had retired from Purdue where he was the store room. manager at Terry Courts and was an artist.
Surviving are two daughters, Colleen Young and Mrs. Stephen (Debra) Herget, both of Brookston; a son, Royce Lucas, Brookston; nine grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.
A son, John, three grandchildren and a great grandchild are deceased.
The funeral services were conducted today at 2 p.m. Sept. 17, at Chalmers Community Church with Pastor Bill Henderson officiating. Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston,was in charge of the service.
Inurnment will be in the Chalmers Community Cemetery
at a later date.
Memorials may be given to the Chalmers Community Cemetery
or the Area IV Council on Aging.
Royce M. Lucas
June 1, 1936 - November 19, 1998
Royce Marvine Lucas, 62, Brookston, died Thursday, Nov. 19, at 3:47 a.m. in White Co. Memorial Hospital, Monticello. He had been ill for several years.
He was born June 1, 1936, to Manden C. and Alyne B. Hicks Lucas, in Chalmers. He first married Rosalie Jordan in 1957. They were divorced. He then married Wanda T. (Wendy) Harshey on March 21, 1986, and she survives.
He graduated in 1953, from Chalmers high School. He served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict He was a sergeant with Hq. Co. 3rd Tk. Bn. from July 1953 until July 1956.
He was a former truck driver and an insurance agent
He was a member of the Brookston Church of Christ.
He was a member of Chalmers American Legion Post No. 268.
Surviving with his wife are three sons, Dean of Dayton; Kenneth of Brookston and Terry of Francesville; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Kendora) Furr of Wolcott; four stepchildren, Kimberly Spradlin, Suzanne Neal, William Neal and Joseph Neal all of Martinville; two sisters, Colleen Young and Mrs. Stephen (Debra) Herget, both of Brookston and 14 grandchildren.
An infant son and brother are deceased.
Funeral services were Sunday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston. Pastor Bill Henderson officiated.
Burial was in Chalmers Community Cemetery
with military rites by Chalmers American Legion Post No. 268.
