Riley H. Hutsell
June 20, 1914 - September 29, 2002
Riley H. Hutsell, 88, of Monticello died Sunday, September 29, 2002 at White County Memorial Hospital, where he had been a patient since Saturday.
He was born June 20, 1914, in Salem, MO., to Richard John Silas and Minnie M. Crumpacker Hutsell. He married Bertie D. Souders on April 3, 1936 in Salem, MO. She died October 14, 1998.
He lived in White County for 54 years, and lived for 42 years at his present address.
He was a farm laborer, and also worked at RCA in Monticello. He was retired.
He was a member of the Baptist Bible Church in Chalmers.
Surviving are sons, Homer (Wanda) Hutsell of Monticello and Marion (Linda) Hutsell of Brookston; sister, Beulah Lowe of Columbia City; 10 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
An infant daughter is deceased.
The funeral was at Hartzler Funeral Home on Wednesday with Rev. Charles Fluckey officiating.
Burial was at Chalmers Community Cemetery.

Irene F. Irons
May 3, 1913 - August 5, 2002
Irene F. Irons, 89, of Monon, died Monday, August 5, 2002, at White County Memorial Hospital. She had been ill for several months.
She was born in Chalmers on May 3, 1913, to Roy D. and Ruth VanVoorst Fisher. She married Paul R. "Bob" Irons on October 21, 1945, in Monon. He survives.
She lived in the community for most of her life. She was a 1931 graduate of Chalmers High School, and attended Indiana State University in Terre Haute.
She was a schoolteacher, who taught at West Point Township for one year, five years at Royal Center and 19 years at Monon Elementary School. She retired in 1968, after teaching for 25 years.
She attended the Monon United Methodist Church.
She was a member of American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 319; Town & Country Extension Homemakers Club of Monon; and national retired teachers associations.
Surviving along with her husband are a brother, Herbert (Lucille) Fisher of Brookston; and 22 nieces and nephews.
Four brothers and two sisters are deceased.
Funeral services were August 8th at Kellogg Funeral Home with Pastor Mathew Pickut officiating.
Burial was at Bedford Cemetery.

Paul R. "Bob" Irons
January 29, 1917 - October 13, 2002
Paul R. "Bob" Irons, 85, Monon died at White County Memorial Hospital on Sunday, October 13, 2002, after an illness of 1 week.
He was born January 29, 1917 in Monon to Chester Paul and Gladys Harbaugh Irons. He married Irene Fisher on October 21, 1945 in Monon. She died August 5, 2002.
He was a 1935 graduate of Monon High School.
A retired fanner, he attended the Monon United Methodist Church in Monon.
He served as a Master Sgt., in the Army Air Force, during WWII. (1941-1945). He served in the Mid East and Africa.
He was a member of the American Legion Post #319, Monon and the TARS Ham Radio Club.
He was a former officer and member of the North White School Board, the North White High School Building Trades Board member and a trustee of the Bedford Cemetery
Association for the past 40 years.
One sister, Mrs. Florence (Ned) Simmons, Ottawa, Ill, and 22 nieces and nephews survive him.
One sister is deceased.
Friends may call at the Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon on Thursday, October 17, 2002 with funeral services to follow at 12:00 noon on Thursday with Pastor Mathew Pickut officiating.
Burial will be in Bedford Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church or the Monon Nutrition Center.
Harry S. Jackman
March 15, 1916 - July 30, 2001
Harry S. Jackman, 85, of Monticello died Monday, June [i.e., July] 30, 2001 in Jasper County Hospital, Rensselaer following an illness of 1 year.
He was born March 15, 1916 in Elwood, Indiana the son of Harry and Esther M. White Jackman.
He was a retired self-employed carpenter and had lived in the Monon and Monticello areas since 1975, coming from Gary, Indiana.
He married June Elaine Peters on June 18, 1943 in Gary. She died October 10, 1987.
He served as a sergeant in the US Army during W.W.II, serving in Europe. He was a member of the VFW at Monticello and the American Legion at Monticello.
He is survived by his long time companion Ruth A. Boyd of Monticello; a son, Larry Jackman of Crown Point; a daughter Patricia Baker of Carthage, Missouri; 2 step sons; Ray Boyd of Mineral Wells, Texas, Jim Boyd, Spanaway, Washington and 2 step-daughters, Carolyn Crockett of Monticello and Janet Bulington of Monon.
Three brothers; Sam Jackman, Anderson, IN, Ralph Jackman, Anderson, IN, Charles Jackman, Monon, Iowa and two sisters, Clara Mae Wines, Wabash, IN and Carolyn McCarthey of Gary, IN. He had 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Two brothers and one sister are deceased.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2001 at the Kellogg Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be Friday, August 3, 2001 at 10:30 a.m. at Kellogg Funeral Home with Pastor Mathew Pickett officiating.
Burial will be in Bedford Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Helen Houser Janeck
February 26, 1911 - March 16, 2001
Helen Houser Janeck, 90, of Rensselaer, and formerly of Monon, died Friday, March 16, 2001 at Jasper County Hospital, Rensselaer. She had been ill seven months.
She was born February 26, 1911 in Myers, Ky., the daughter of G. Earl Martin, M.D. and Elizabeth Buchanan Martin. She married Dr. Wayne Houser in Williamsburg, Ind., on February 27, 1932. He died in April 1965. She married Kenneth Janeck in Seattle, Wash., in 1977. He died in 1987.
She was a graduate of Williamsburg High School and attended Indiana University.
She was a homemaker. She lived in Monon from 1934 to 1967, then moved to Tacoma, Wash. In 1990 she returned to Monon and moved to Rensselaer in 1995.
She attended Trinity United Methodist Church, Rensselaer, and was a member of the Monon United Methodist Church.
She was Past Worthy Grand Matron in Order of Eastern Star of Indiana. She was an avid bridge player and was a member of Rensselaer Literary Club.
Grandchildren, Kimberly Garwood of Rensselaer, and Martin Garwood of Monon; two step-granddaughters; three great-granddaughters; and one great-great granddaughter survive her.
A brother and sister are deceased.

Dallas E. Johnson
May 13, 1938 - June 15, 1999
Dallas E. Johnson, 61, 320 N Beach Dr., Monticello, died Tuesday. June 15, at White Co Memorial Hospital.
He was born May 13, 1938, to Earl and Lela Merry Johnson, in St. Francesville, Ill. He was married Oct. 11, 1958, to Patricia M. Keefer, in Hessville, and she survives.
He graduated from Hammond Technical High School in Hammond and served three years in the U.S. Army. He also served in the Army Reserves until 1966.
He was employed for 18 years at the White County Sheriff's Department, retiring as director of White County Communications in 1995.
He was instrumental in the implementation of the 911 emergency system in this area
He then worked as a truck driver for Hardebeck Trucking Inc. for over four years.
He was a member of the White County Alert which later was the White County Civil Defense. He was active in the Red Cross and was a Girl Scout leader for 12 years.
He also was an active member of the White Co. G.O.P., serving as precinct committee chairman and treasurer. He also ran for White County Sheriff in the 1990 primary election.
He was a member of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church.
He was a member of the F.O.P. and the Monticello American Legion.
He is survived by his wife; four daughters, Mrs. Tim (Lorna) Andres of Noblesville; Mrs. Joe (Paula) Stucker of Brownsburg; Mrs. Tom (Debra) Krulik of Martinsville and Mrs. David (Tina) Wolfe of Monticello; two brothers, Ernest of Monticello and Billy of Gary; mother-in-law, Margaret Keefer of Monticello and 13 grandchildren.
Funeral service was Friday, at Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Church, with the Rev James Goodrum and the Rev Robert Fosselman officiating.
Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home was in charge.
Burial was in Bedford Cemetery, Monon, with military rites.
Memorials may be given to the White County Red Cross.
