John Frederick Goss
March 3, 1951 - February 2, 1998
John Frederick Goss, 46, Monticello, died unexpectedly at Friday, Feb. 20 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.
He was born March 3, 1951, to Lowell Milner and Alice R. Gross Goss in Wolcott. He was married Dec. 27, 1980, to Leslie H. Wineland, who survives.
He was a 1969 graduate of Wolcott High School and a 1973 graduate of Purdue. He graduated in 1976, from the Valparaiso University School of Law.
He had lived in Monticello for 22 years.
He practiced law in Monticello, since 1976, joining Boomershine and SonLaw firm with C. Garry Boomershine.
He served for 17 years as White County Attorney and served as the Monticello City Attorney under the two previous administrations. He had also served as the attorney for the Monticello-Union Township Public Library, the North White School Corp., the Monticello Comprehensive Developmental Center, the town boards of Burnettsville and Reynolds,as well as many other community organizations.
He had served as the attorney for and had been a member of the Monticello First National Bank Board of Directors.
He was a member, elder and high school Sunday School teacher at Monticello First Presbyterian Church.
He was a member of the Indiana Bar Association, the White County Bar Association, the White County SAFE Club, Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, the Farm House Fraternity at Purdue and was a lifetime member of the Purdue Alumni Association.
He also farmed for many years and was a member of White Co. 4-H and FFA while in high school.
Surviving with his wife are his mother, Wolcott; a brother, William L., Indianapolis; two sisters, Martha Lou Shortlidge, Brewster, N.Y. and Mary Alice Bauman, West Lafayette and 14 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Monday, Feb. 23, at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. James H. Rucker Jr. officiating.
Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home was in charge.
Burial was in Meadow Lake Cemetery, Wolcott.
Memorials may be given to the First Presbyterian Church, Monticello-Union Township Public Library or Pheasants Forever.
Hilda 'Radie' Carrigan Grace
April 10, 1912 - February 18, 1993
Hilda "Radie" Carrigan Grace, formerly of Brookston, died Thursday, Feb. 18, at Comfort Retirement and Nursing Home in Lafayette, where she was a resident for two weeks. She had been in failing health.
She had been a resident of Heritage Healthcare in West Lafayette, since April 1990, prior to moving to Comfort Retirement.
She was born April 10, 1912, to Adam Carrigan and Grace McCaine, in Carroll County. She was married Oct. 9, 1937, to Ralph Grace Sr., in Fowler, and he died Feb. 16, 1979.
She graduated in 1930, from Rockfield High School and since lived in Brookston. Her husband and she owned and operated the Brookston elevators.
She was a member of the Brookston Federated Church and Psi Iota Xi Sorority, where she was honorary retired member. She was a life member of the Brookston American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include a brother, Leland Carrigan, Ada, Oklahoma; a stepdaughter-in-law, Mary Grace, Brookston; a niece, Carol Frantz, Lafayette; and a nephew, Carrigan, Ada, Oklahoma; two step-granddaughters; and four step-great grandchildren. Five sisters, a brother and stepson are deceased.
The funeral was Saturday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Rev. Lelan McReynolds officiating.
Burial was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston. Memorials can be given to the Brookston Federated Church.
Ocea E. E. Graham
April 15, 1910 - December 29, 1988
Ocea E. Beets Graham, 78, R.2, Horseshoe Bend, Brookston, was dead on arrival at her doctor's office in Delphi, Thursday, Dec. 29, at 9:30 a.m.
She was born April 15, 1910, in Clinton, Tenn., and moved from Fowler to R.1, Chalmers, where she and her husband farmed for 30 years. In 1978 they moved to Horseshoe Bend. She was married Sept. 18, 1928 to Jake K. Graham in Clinton. He died May 28, 1980.
Surviving are a son, Robert E. Graham, West Point; a daughter, Mrs. Harold (Catherine) Fry, R.1, Brookston; a brother, Ed Beets, Clinton; and three sisters, Mrs. Margaret McKamery, Dalton, Ga., Mrs. Lillian Curnutt, Franklin, Ohio, and Mrs. Clara Pemberton, Clinton. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, Sherrie Cox and Michael Graham, both of Clinton, Tenn., Holly Graham, Oak Ridge, Tenn. and Adam Graham, West Point; 3 great grandchildren. A son, Roy; 4 brothers, 1 sister, one grandson, 1 granddaughter preceded in death.
Service was Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev Gene Ansell officiating.
Interment was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.
Hubert A. Graves
January 8, 1916 - October 22, 2000
Hubert A. Graves, 84, Lafayette, the stepfather of local residents, died Sunday, October 22, in Heritage healthcare, West Lafayette.
He was born January 8, 1916, to John and Lillie Carter Graves, in Sumner County, Tennessee. He was married July 1, 1961, to Virginia Stackhouse, in Scottsville, Kentucky. She died August 13, 1998.
He lived in Lafayette since 1925 and worked at Henry Poore Lumber in West Lafayette. He retired from the Lafayette School Corp. in 1974.
He is survived by stepdaughter, Norma (Ralph) Crowell, Brookston; stepson, Robert (Faye) Stackhouse, Brookston; brothers, Hoy and Wayne Graves, both of West Lafayette; sisters, Gladys Dearning, Lafayette and Edith Graves, Maxine Ingram and Katherine Thompson, all of West Lafayette; four step-grandchildren and seven step great grandchildren.
Two brothers, William "R.C." and Donald Graves, and a sister, Ada Ruth are deceased.
Funeral service was Tuesday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston.
Burial was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette.
Virginia L. Graves
November 15, 1909 - August 18, 1997
Virginia Lucille Nulf Stackhouse Graves, 88, of Heritage Healthcare, West Lafayette, a native of Chalmers, died Thursday, Aug. 13, at the health care center, where she was a patient since October 6,1995.
She was born Nov. 15, 1909, to Alfonzo and Blanche Plumb Nulf, in Chalmers. Her first marriage was to Dewey Stackhouse. Her second marriage was to Hubart Graves in 1958 in Tennessee and he survives.
She moved from Battle Ground to Lafayette, where she had lived for 53 years.
She was retired from Loeb Department Store.
Surviving with the her husband are a daughter, Mrs. Ralph (Norma) Crowell of Brookston; a son, Robert Stackhouse, of Brookston; two sisters, Amy Anderson, Delphi and Betty Johnson, Lafayette; four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Two brothers and an infant sister are deceased.
Funeral services were Monday, Aug. 17, at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Pastor Don Short and Pastor Paul Vogt officiating.
Burial was in Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette.
Memorials may be given to charity of choice.
Audrey N. Gray

Audrey N. Gray, 92, of Crown Point, a former longtime resident of Hammond died Friday, February 23, 2001.
She was preceded in death by her husband Russell A. Gray, Sr.. in 1969 and her son Russell A. Gray, Jr. in 2000.
She is survived by three grandsons, James Gray of Crown Point, John (Michele) Gray of Kingwood, TX and Jeffrey (Luanne) Gray of Crown Point. A daughter in law Mary Lou Gray of Monon and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services were Sunday, February 25, 2001 at the Burns Funeral Home in Crown Point with Ryan Williamson officiating. Cremation followed the services.
Russell Aubrey Gray
April 5, 1926 - January 5, 2000
Russell Aubrey Gray, 73, Monon, died Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2000, at St. Anthony's Hospital, Crown Point.
He was born April 5, 1926, to Russell and Audrey Hathaway Gray, in Hammond. He was married July 29, 1950, to Mary Lou Qualkinbush Gray, in Hammond and she survives.
He lived in Monon for 12 years, moving there from Highland.
He graduated from Hammond High School in 1944, and attended Purdue for two years.
He was a design engineer for Superior Engineering Corp. in Hammond for 23 years..
He was a member of the Monon United Methodist Church, and was a lifetime member of the Garfield Masonic Lodge, Hammond.
He is survived by his mother, Audrey Gray. Crown Point; wife, Mary Lou Gray, Monon; sons, James A. Gray and Jeffrey M. Gray, both of Crown Point and John R. Gray of Kingwood, Texas; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral service was Saturday at Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, with the Rev. James Copeland officiating.
Burial was at Bedford Cemetery, Monon.
Memorials may be given to the Parkinson's Disease Foundation.
