Jesse Leland Fausset
April 8, 1895 - January 16, 1989
Jesse Leland Fausset, 93, Sheridan, died Monday, Jan. 16, in Parkwood Healthcare Center, Lebanon. He was ill five years.
He was born April 8, 1895 to Charles M. and Naomi Stoops Fausset, in Boone County.
He was married Aug. 18,1917, to Nancy Verna Thompson, who died on Sept. 8, 1966. He later married Edith Keeling, Dec. 1967, who survives.
He retired from farming in 1960.
He was a member of the Terhune United Methodist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War I. He was also a member of the Kirklin American Legion. He graduated in 1914 from Sheridan High School and in 1920 from Purdue. He joined the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity while attending Purdue.
Survivors also include four sons, Lewis R., Boise, Idaho; Jean F., Lebanon; Charles M., Brookston and Donald A., Kirklin; five step-sons, William Keeling, California; Richard Keeling, Anderson; John Keeling, Sheridan and Herbert Keeling, New Haven; and Hobart Keeling, Marion. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
The funeral was today at 2 p.m. in the Kercheval Funeral Home, Sheridan with the Rev Raymond C. Earle officiating.
Burial was in Crown View Cemetery
in Sheridan.
Richard Leo Faulknor
July 18, 1910 - September 29, 1992
Richard Leo Faulknor, 82, Flora, died unexpectedly early Tuesday, September 29th.
He was born July 18, 1910 to James and Viola Reese Faulknor in Warren County. He married Eleanor Talkington on April 28, 1934 in Greenfield, and she survives.
He was a former iron worker and union member at Hammond and had lived in Indianapolis for several years. He retired in 1972. He lived in Tecumseh Bend in Carroll County from 1975 until December 1990 when he moved to Flora.
He was a member of Delphi Christian Church and attended the Flora Christian Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Willard (Mildred) Burdine, Rt. 2, Brookston; four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
A graveside service was held today at 11 a.m. at IOOF Memorial Gardens, Delphi, the Rev. Robert J. Shaw officiated.
Horn Funeral Home, Delphi, was in charge of arrangements.
William C. Fields
December 27, 1904 - June 7, 1990
William C. Fields, 85, Plainfield, died June 7, in his home.
He was born Dec. 27, 1904, to Sam and Mary Wooden Fields, in Hart County, Kentucky. His first marriage was to Mary Louise Cowger, who died July 16,1949. He married Juanita Rutherford, Nov. 9, 1957, who survives.
He lived in the Brookston area from 1923 until the 1940s. He was a retired farmer and was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Avon.
Also surviving are three sons: Herbert, Otterbien, Harold D., Wolcott and William H., Lafayette; three stepsons; Donald, Cecil and Charles Freeman, all of Chicago; two stepdaughters: Mrs. Pauline Wilson, Indianapolis and Mrs. Marietta Ferguson, Charlotte, N.C.; 30 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren.
The funeral was Monday in the Hartzler Funeral Home; Brookston, with the Rev. John Retherford officiating.
Burial was in IOOF Riverview Cemetery, Monticello.
Nina C. Fife
August 13, 1906 - August 14, 1998
Nina C. Fife, Brookston died Friday, Aug. 14, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare Center, Delphi. She had been a patient at the center for a year.
She was born Aug. 13, 1906, Loren and Sarah Ellen Stephen Pruitt, in Cass County. She was married Dec. 31, 1922, to Emmett Fife in Delphi, and he died in 1982.
She had lived in Carroll County since she was 12 years old.
During World War II, she worked at the Elwood Arsenal in Wilmington, Ill. and for six years she worked at the former Fix Nursing Home in Flora.
She was a 57-year member of the Delphi Wesleyan Church.
She was a charter and life member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary 9383 of Delphi and was a former member of the Westside Flower Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Casimir (Verna) Cieryca of Kankakee, Ill and Mrs. James (Margaret) Plunkett of Brookston; 15 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren.
Two sons, six brothers and a sister are deceased.
Funeral services were Monday, Aug. 17 at the Horn Funeral Home, Delphi, with Pastor Nord Zootman officiating.
Burial was in IOOF Memorial Gardens, Delphi.
John F. Fishel
September 24, 1927 - December 23, 1998
John P. Fishel, 71, of 713 S. Bluff St., Monticello, died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998 at 8:10 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette.
He was born at Bedford on Sept. 24, 1927, to Arnold Mitchell and Craigie Thelma Kern Fishel. He married Juanita M. Bice on August 12, 1950 at Chalmers. She survives.
He lived in Monticello for 61 years.
He was a 1945 graduate of Monticello High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was employed with NIPSCO for 37 years. retiring as an Area Construction Supervisor in 1987.
He was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church.
He was a 50-year member and past commander of the American Legion Post 81. He managed the American Legion baseball team for 10 years. He was a Cub Scout-Boy Scout leader for 10 years and also served for a time as Scoutmaster. He was a member of the Twin Lakes Booster Club.
He was a member of the Monticello Kiwanis Club, serving as chairman of the Young Children Priority One committee. He received special recognition on a local and state level from the Kiwanis for this program and served as Kiwanis Arrowhead Division chairman on the same committee.
Along with his wife, he is survived by three sons, Steve of Monticello, Jeff of Kent, Wash., and Doug of Lafayette; daughters, Mrs. Eric (Debra K.) Clawson of Chalmers and Raymond (Diana) Fishel-Hall of Bloomington; a brother, Walter of Bedford; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home with the Rev. James Copeland officiating.
Burial, with military graveside rites, was at the Riverview IOOF Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Monticello Kiwanis Foundation.
Robert G. Fisher
February 13, 1920 - May 5, 1992
Robert G. Fisher, 72, 504A Foster St., Monticello died Tuesday, May 5, in Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. He had been seriously ill for the last seven months.
He was born Feb. 13, 1920, to Ray and Maude Hodshire Fisher, in White County. He was married Jan. 30, 1943, to Helen Kay Raper, in Monticello, and she survives.
He was a 1937 graduate of Monticello High School, attended Indiana University and later earned a bachelor's degree in English from Wabash College. He also attended officer's candidate school at Notre Dame University and served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the South Pacific.
He joined the staff of the Monticello Daily Herald-Journal in Dec. 1948, as sports editor. He held various positions on the staff until he and his wife acquired the newspaper, following the death in Sept. 1971, of his father-in-law Dewey Raper, the newspaper's publisher. He later served as managing editor and then president of the firm until he retired in April 1984.
He was a member of the Monticello United Methodist Church, past president of the Monticello Jaycees, past president of the Greater Monticello Chamber of Commerce, former adjutant of the American Legion Post No. 81, member and former secretary of Tippecanoe Country Club, member of Masonic Lodge, former member of the White Co. Memorial Hospital Board and past president and member of the Monticello Redevelopment Commission until his death.
He also was a former member of the Union League at Chicago and member of the Columbia Club at Indianapolis.
Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Mrs. Ann Lockwood, Austin, Texas; two sons, Jeffrey J., Indianapolis and John L., Kansas City, Mo.; one brother, William M., Staunton, Va.; and two grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday, at Monticello United Methodist Church at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Brown officiating. Friends may call from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home.
Burial will be in IOOF Riverview Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to charity.
Roscoe J. Fisher
May 26, 1917 - March 6, 1999
Roscoe J. Fisher, 81, of Monticello. died Saturday, March 6, 1999 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette.
He was born May 26, 1917 in White County, the son of Roy D. and Ruth VanVoorst Fisher. He married Dorothy M. Foltz on March 5, 1939 and she survives
He was a 1935 graduate of Chalmers High School.
He worked for the A,S.C.S., a division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 20 years, retiring in 1978. He also farmed most of his life.
He lived in Clermont, Florida and visited Monticello in the summer. He moved back in 1998.
He was a member of the Monticello Christian Church.
He was a 50 year member of the IOOF. He was also an associate member of the Chalmers American Legion.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Jim of Mishawaka and Tom of Park City, Utah; two brothers, Melvin of Freemont. Mich., and Herbert of Brookston; three sisters, Irene Irons of Monon, Edna Meeker of Lee's Summit. MO., and Phyllis Hughes of Carmel and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral services were this morning at Miller-Roscka Funeral home with Rev. Donald Arturburn officiating Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery.
