Darrell J. Collette

Darrell J. "Bud" Collette, 65, Fowlerton, died at 3:19 Jan. 14, in the Marion VA Medical Center after a long illness.
Mr Collette, born in Fairmount Township, was an Army veteran of World War II serving as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division in Africa and Europe. He had been employed at the Owens Corning Co. for 29½ years as a brick mason. He was a 1940 graduate of Gas City High School and was a member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftsmen Association and the Gas City VFW. Mr Colette was one of the brick masons who constructed the original VFW post in Gas City.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Jo; two daughters, Mrs. Marvin (Dianna) Davis, Chalmers and Mrs. David (Janet) Eckelbarger, Fort Wayne; a sister, Mrs Paul (Jayne) DeLong, Newark, Ohio; and four grandchildren.
Services were Jan. 18 in the Needham-Storey Funeral Service Storey Chapel, Gas City, with the Rev G. Bright Hanna officiating. Burial was in Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion.
John W. Collier
August 28, 1935 - April 13, 1993
John W. Collier Sr., 57, R.1, Chalmers, died unexpectedly Tuesday, at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center, Lafayette.
He was born Aug. 28, 1935, to Harvey L. and Nancy Ann Minniear Collier, in Cookeville, Tenn. He was married June 24, 1961, to Zola M. Johnson, in Tazewell, Tenn. and she survives.
He moved to Brookston-Chalmers area from Tennessee, in 1969. He had been employed by Fauber Construction Co., Lafayette, since 1983. He was previously employed by Goris Tire Co., Lafayette.
He attended Chalmers Bible Center.
Surviving with his wife are five sons; Harvey L., John W. Jr and Darrell W., all of Brookston; Michael C. and Terry L, both at home; one brother, Lewis of Cookeville; three sisters, Clata Randolph and Mrs. James (Joyce) Montgomery, both of Cookeville and Mrs. Charles (Catherine) Etheredge of Iron City, Tenn.; and four grandchildren. Two sisters are deceased.
The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with Rev Charles Fluckey officiating. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Brookston IOOF Cemetery.

Kenneth Ray Connell
March 26, 1967 - October 12, 1994
Kenneth Ray Connell, 27, Monticello, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, at his home. He had suffered from cancer since March 1, 1993.
He was born March 26, 1967, to Larry Dean and Bonnie Lou Tomlinson Connell, in Lafayette. He was married Aug. 5, 1989, to his high school sweetheart, the former Tammy Sue Clear, a sixth grade teacher at Roosevelt Middle School and she survives.
He was a lifelong resident of Monticello and graduated from Twin Lakes High School in 1985. He graduated in 1989 from Wabash College with a bachelor of science degree in psychology. He received a scholarship to play football and baseball at Wabash College. He also was a member and treasurer of the Indiana Beta chapter of Phi Delta Theta fraternity at Wabash College.
He was employed as manager of the White Co. Co-op Petroleum Plant at Chalmers.
An avid supporter of school athletics, he enjoyed coaching sixth grade boys basketball at Roosevelt Middle School. He also kept game statistics for the Twin Lakes High School varsity basketball team for three years. He coached an age 12 and younger AAU basketball team and also coached and played on an ASA men's softball team, sponsored by The Riverside Restaurant.
He attended the Monticello United Methodist Church.
Surviving with his wife and parents of Monticello, is a brother, Eric Wayne, West Lafayette; a sister, Trina Ann Connell, Monticello; paternal grandmother, Mary Connell, Francesville; and a nephew.
The funeral was Friday in the Twin Lakes High School auditorium with Rev. Michael Brown officiating. Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home was in charge of services.
Burial was in IOOF Riverview Cemetery.

John G. Coopman
November 22, 1899 - May 29, 1990
John G. Coopman, 90, 1010 Cumberland Ave., West Lafayette, formerly of Brookston, died Tuesday, May 29, at 12:35 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Hospital, Lafayette. He had been a patient since April 28.
He was born Nov. 22, 1899, to Wayburn and Anna Coopman, in White County. He was married Jan. 10, 1920, to Jeanne Wright, in Monticello. She survives.
He moved to Lafayette, in 1989, spending most of his life in Brookston. He was a graduate of Michigan State Auto School as an automobile mechanic. He worked for Wright's Garage in Brookston, retiring in 1967.
He was a member of the Brookston Town Board from Jan. 1960 to Dec. 1979. He was a former member of Knights of Pythias, Moose Lodge in Delphi and Brookston Optimists Club. He liked playing euchre and pinochle.
Surviving with his wife are one son, John W., Lafayette; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two brothers, Bill, Delphi and Arthur, Linden; and one sister, Mrs Catherine Switzer, Linden. One daughter, one brother and one sister are deceased.
The funeral will be tomorrow at 11 a.m. in Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston, with the Rev Duncan MacNabb officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. tonight at the funeral home.
Burial will be at IOOF Cemetery
in Brookston.

Jeanne Coopman
June 29, 1901 - November 15, 1999
Jeanne Wnght Coopman, 98, a former Brookston resident, died Monday, Nov. 15, at George Davis Manor, West Lafayette, where she had lived since June 1996.
She was born June 29, 1901, to John W. and Jennie Clare Ripley Wright in Brookston. She was married Jan. 10, 1921, to John C. Coopman, in Monticello, and he died May 29, 1990.
She was a 1919 graduate of Brookston High School. She spent two years studying music at Illinois Women's College.
She was a bookkeeper and she worked in sales at the Indiana Veterans Home.
She was a member of Brookston Federated Church. a life member of OES Monticello Crystal Chapter No. 165, was a life member of Delta Theta Chi sorority of Lafayette and was a former director of the Kitchen Band.
Surviving are a son, John W. Coopman, Lafayette; six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
A sister and daughter are deceased.
Funeral services were Thursday at Hartzler Funeral Home, Brookston. with Rev Phil Emerson officiating.
Burial was in IOOF Cemetery, Brookston.
Memorials may be given, to the American Cancer Society.
Patrick B. Corn
August 26, 1950 - July 18, 2001
Patrick B. Corn, 50, a Buffalo resident died Wednesday, July 18, 2001 at Wishard Memorial Hospital, Indianapolis.
He was born in LaPorte on August 26, 1950. His father was John William Corn. He married Rene S. (Hawkins) Thomeson at Indianapolis on July 8, 1989 and she survives.
He was a graduate of Delphi High School.
He had resided in White and Carroll counties and had lived in the Buffalo community for the last 10 years.
He was a founder of Four C's Handyman Service.
He was a member of the Sons of the AMVETS Post 91, Monticello. He played in the White County men's pool and dart leagues.
He was also one of Indiana's unknown artists, having drawn many items and was an American Indian.
He is survived by his wife; a son John Eric (Dawn) Corn of Alabama; three stepdaughters, Mary (Shelby) Strasser of Kokomo, Tabitha Thomeson of Indianapolis and Tina Thomeson of Florida; two stepsons, Paul Wines of Kokomo and Edward Thomeson of Indianapolis. He had 17 grandchildren.
Services were at the Miller-Roscka Funeral Home in Monticello on Saturday with Buffalo Heart officiating.

Mae Pilling Cowdin
December 18, 1906 - March 12, 2001
Mae Pilling Cowdin, 94, a former Brookston resident died Monday, March 12, 2001 at Westminster Village, West Lafayette.
She was born Dec. 18, 1906, in Rainier, Ore. To Clarence and Pearl May Nipple Pilling. She married Thomas J. Cowdin in Lafayette on April 30, 1924. He died on June 25, 1969.
She attended Lafayette Jefferson High School and Lafayette Business College.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Brookston Federated Church and the former Philathen Sunday school class.
She was a former member of the Brookston American Legion Auxiliary.
She moved from Lafayette to Brookston in 1924. She had lived in Westminster Village since Aug. 2, 1976.
Surviving are two sons, Paul E. Cowdin of Ft. Myers, Fla. And Robert D. Cowdin of Montgomery Texas; a daughter, Mrs. Joann Pestka of West Point, Utah; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Paul and Harold are deceased.
Graveside funeral services were held on Friday, March 16, 2001, at IOOF Cemetery, Brookston with Rev. Dr. Lelan McReynolds officiating.
Memorials may be made to Brookston Federated Church.
