Sandy Mills
Sandy (Alvey) Mills, 49 of Evansville, died Saturday, February 16, 2002 at her residence from complications of cancer.
She was a very active member of Nativity Catholic Church, where she was a Eucharistic Minister, usher and greeter. She is a graduate of Memorial High School and the Evansville School of Practical Nursing and was a Licensed Practical Nurse for 30 years and most recently employed for 6 years at Deaconess Family Medical Center.
She is survived by her daughter, Emily Ann Mills of Evansville; parents, Jim and Betty Alvey of Evansville; grandmother, Lillian Ennis of Evansville; sisters, Sherrie Wagner and Becky Alvey of Evansville and Patty Carder of Lawrenceville, Ga.; brothers, Steve Alvey of Coto DeCaza, Calif., Jim Alvey of Evansville and Bob Alvey of Loganville, Ga.; 8 nieces and one nephew; and one great-niece.
Services will be Tuesday, February 19, 2002, at 9:30 a.m. at Ziemer East Chapel, continued at 10:00 a.m. at Nativity Catholic Church, with the Nativity Pastoral Team officiating, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Visitation will be today, February 18, 2002, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Ziemer East Chapel, with a memorial service at 7 p.m.
Memorial Contributions may be made to Vista Care Hospice.
Evelyn Harter
BOONVILLE - Evelyn R. Harter, 85, died Sat. (Feb. 16) at her residence in Boonville after a long illness.
She was a member of the Salvation Army and Eby Church. She loved playing her piano and singing gospel music. She was preceded in death by 2 sisters, Ellen Beasley in 2000 and Jeanie Harter in 1980; and 2 sons, Paul Hadley in 1998 and Jerry Hadley in 1970.
Surviving are her husband of 39 years, Jack Harter of Boonville; 1 daughter, Judy Boughner of Boonville; 2 stepdaughters, Jackie Winsett of Boonville and Carolyn Sue Roberts of Selvin; 1 stepson, Richard Harter of Boonville; 1 sister, Inez Pugh of West Sacramento, Calif.; 1 brother, Van James Oldham of Chrisney; 20 grandchildren; and 35 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services 2 p.m. Tues. (Feb. 19) at Koehler Funeral Home Boonville Chapel, Rev. Bob Willis officiating, with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery. Friends may call Mon. (Feb. 18), from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Tues., 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association or Visiting Nurse Association.
Shelby Mayes
CYNTHIANA - Shelby W. Mayes, 84, of Cynthiana, died on Sunday, February 17, 2002, at Owensville Convalescent Center.
His wife, Catherine Mayes, on November 14, 1999, precedes him in death.
He was a retired farmer and a member of the Pentecostal faith.
Surviving are his four daughters, Shirley Gee and Sandra Paul of Cynthiana, Ind., Lisa Anderson of Owensville, Ind., and Mary Gish of St. Wendell, Ind.; a son, David Mayes of Evansville; three stepdaughters, Faye Williams, Pat Williams and Karen Todd, all of Evansville; a stepson, Donald Crull of Haubstadt, Ind,; a brother, Shelley Mayes of Henderson, Ky.; 21 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, February 19, 2002, at Ziemer North Chapel from 2 to 8 p.m. ,and continued Wednesday, February 20, 2002, from 10 a.m. until service time at 2 p.m. at Ziemer North Chapel, with burial in Liberty Cemetery
in Cynthiana.
Elmer Olsen Jr.
JASPER - Elmer Olsen Jr., 87, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at St. Charles Health Campus in Jasper.
He retired as president of Richfield Manufacturing Co. in Richfield, N.C.
Surviving are two sons, Blayne and Richard; and four grandchildren.
Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg is handling arrangements. Memorial services are pending.
Julia Weathers
PETERSBURG - Julia A. (Williams) Weathers, 89, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2002, at Petersburg Health Care.
Surviving are a son, Paul; a sister, Verda Dissen; a brother, Patrick; and five grandchildren.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. EST Wednesday at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, with burial in Walnut Hills Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8 a.m. to service time.
Victoriano 'Victor' Bergonia
Victoriano Bergonia, age 64, of Evansville, passed away Monday, February 11, 2002, as the result of an automobile accident.
Mr. Bergonia was retired from the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran of three tours. He received the Purple Heart twice and was a member of the Disabled American Vets Douglas Ray Hart Chapter 4.
Mr. Bergonia is survived by his wife of 32 years, Judy, and his children in Evansville, Sabrina, RenaMae, Angela and Gena. He is also survived by five children in Hawaii, Teresa, Rose, Victoria, Michael and Moki. He has 27 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Friends may visit from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday at Pierre Funeral Home in Evansville.
He will be buried in Hawaii at National Memorial Cemetery
of the Pacific. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the family to help defray burial expenses in Hawaii.
Lee Etta Cook
Mrs. Lee Etta Cook, age 61, of Evansville, IN, expired at 2 a.m. Thursday at her home.She was a native of Hartford, Ky., and a member of the Mount Olive Galilee Baptist Church in Evansville, IN.
She was a homemaker and enjoyed fishing, sewing and always helping others in the community.
Survivors are three daughters, Danita Chamber and Denise Cook, both of Evansville, IN, and Rita Johnson of Indianapolis, IN; two sons, William Johnson and Dewayne Cook, both of Evansville, IN; one sister, Runell Parks of Evansville, IN; one brother, Clarence Chinn Jr., of Evansville, IN; nine grandchildren, Dalonzo Young, Arterus Young, Deandrea Gold, Derenzo Bushrod, Starla Roach, Leondre Cook, Raddell Waddy, DeCarlos Pearson, Avonte Waddy; seven great-grandchildren, Tiara Young, Damar Young, Raven Young, Arterus Young Jr., Javen Young, Derena Merriweather and Peanut; and a host of nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Adrian Brooks officiating, with burial in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. Monday until the funeral hour at the Memorial Baptist Church in Evansville, IN.

Hugh H. Duncan
Hugh H. Duncan, 94, of Evansville, IN, died Friday, February 15, 2002, at McCurdy Healthcare.
Mr. Duncan graduated from Lockyear Business College. He worked for Hulman & Company for 46 years as a salesman.
He was a member of Newburgh Presbyterian Church.
Survivors are his wife of 72 years, Pauline (Chapman) Duncan of Evansville; a daughter, Anita Duncan of New York, NY; a daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Michael Riley of Long Beach, IN; grandchildren, Shawn, Patrick, Bryan and Kristen Riley; and great-grandchild-ren, Tiffany, Megan, Abbigail, Kiera and Duncan Riley. His brothers, Omer and Tedd Duncan preceded him in death.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2002, at Park Lawn Cemetery
Chapel. The Rev. Thomas Sale will be officiating, with entombment in the mausoleum.

Chapel.

James R. Godwin
James R. Godwin, 44, of Newburgh, died Saturday, February 16, 2002, at 12:35 a.m. at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, IN.
Mr. Godwin was a land analyst for American General Finance Corporation for three years. Prior to that he worked for AMAX Coal Company for 13 and a half years. He enjoyed boating, coaching youth league baseball and basketball and being a dad. He was of the Catholic faith.
He is survived by his wife of 16 years, Jennifer (Schmitt) Godwin; three sons, Andrew James, Ethan Michael and Alex Robert of Evansville, IN; one sister, Cindy Offerman of Evansville, IN; one brother, Steven Godwin of Mount Vernon, IN; one aunt, Dorothy Johns of Evansville, IN; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 18, 2002, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, located at 5330 Washington Avenue, with Rev. Ferd Elfreich officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Sunday, February 17, 2002, at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel.
