Irene C. Baker
April 18, 1907 to August 6, 2000
Irene C. Baker, 93, of Monticello died Sunday, August 6, 2000 at Twin Lakes Village. She had been ill for three months.
She was born April 18, 1907 in Monon to Lucien and Stella Wilson Clerget. She married Leslie F. Baker in Reynolds on May 28, 1924 He died August 12, 1959. She was a homemaker and had retired from Bryan Manufacturing Company in Monticello after working 30 years. She had lived in Monon most of her life but moved to Chalmers 10 years ago. She had moved to Twin lakes Village 3 years ago. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Monticello and a former member of the Bedford Presbyterian Church near Monon.
Surviving are two daughters, Shirley Ann Balcom (Henry) of Lancaster, PA and Carole R. (Jerry) Stinson of Monon and four sons; William R. Baker (Mary Jane) Monticello, Donald R. (Jean) Baker, Buffalo; Jerry Baker (Karen) Bedford, IN and John Joseph Baker of Fresno, CA. One son is deceased. Also surviving are a brother, Robert Clerget of Monticello and two sisters, Iva Dittman, Rochester, IN and Esther Elston, Jacksonville, FL. Five brothers are deceased. She had 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and I great-great grandson.
Funeral Services will be at the Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 9 with Frank Hicks officiating. Burial will be in Bedford Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Heart Fund or Buffalo Christian Church.
Helen Burnett Barlow
November 27, 1917 to September 18, 2000
Helen Burnett (Graves) Barlow, 82, Brookston died Monday, September 18, 2000 at the Indiana Veterans Home, West Lafayette.
She was born in Beaver Township, Pulaski County on November 27, 1917, to Jesse and Mary Burris Graves. She married Arthur Vnce Barlow in Hammond on April 8, 1939. He died July 19, 2000.
She was a 1937 graduate of Monon High School.
She lived in Brookston since 1959 and wintered in Pharr, Texas. She had been a resident of the Veterans Home since July 13. A homemaker, she was a member of the Brookston Federated Church and the Women's Fellowship.
She is survived by a son, David (Carolyn) Barlow of Attica; grandchildren Alan Barlow and Amber Reitsma; five great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. Eleven sisters and a brother are deceased.
Funeral services were at Hartzler Funeral Home in Brooskton with Rev. Lelan McReynolds officiating. Burial was at Buffalo Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
June Emma Baxter
August 8, 1926 - June 3, 2001
June Emma Baxter, 74, Monon, died Sunday, June 3, at 6:58 a.m. in St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette. She had been ill for four years.
She was born August 8, 1926, to Steven Alonzo and Irene Marie Marchad Chapman, in Jasper County. She was married July 31, 1948, to Bill H. Baxter in Monon, and he survives.
She was a homemaker who lived in the community for most of her life.
Surviving with her husband are three sons; William E. Baxter and Larry D. Baxter, both of Monticello and Steven H. Baxter, Reynolds; two brothers, Dale Chapman of Monon and Russell Chapman of Lafayette, three sisters, Eva Yerk of Brookston, Helen Margison, Wolcott and Marie Ledford, Buffalo; five grandchildren; a step-grandson and 10 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were today, at 11 a.m. in the Kellogg Funeral Home, Monon, with Rev. Steve Birch officiating.
Burial was in Bedford Cemetery, Monon.
Memorials may be given to Monon First Baptist Church.
Alta 'Vernie' Blount
February 28, 1933 - February 21, 2002
Alta "Vernie" Laverne Blount, 68, of Monon, died Thursday, Feb. 21 at 5:35 a.m. in Home Hospital, Lafayette. She had been ill for l9 years.
She was born Feb. 28, 1933, to Marcus Ernest and Cynthia Wooldridge Weston. She was married Aug 7, 1965, to James G. Blount, in Monticello, and he survives.
She had resided for 36 years in Monon, moving there from Monticello.
She was a homemaker.
She attended the Monon United Methodist Church.
Surviving with her husband are sons, Steve Lee, Monon and Mike Lee of Ocala, Florida; stepson, James Leroy Blount, Lafayette; stepdaughter, Julie MacIsaac of Portage; brothers, John Weston, Lafayette; Larry Weston, Biloxi, Miss. and Gary Weston, Monticello; sisters, Louise Sales, Delphi; Geraldine Delp, Buck Creek, Mary Chilcott, Monticello and Loretta DeBoy of Biloxi, Miss.; three grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren.
Services were Monday at 11 a.m. in the Kellogg Funeral Home with Pastor Mathew Pickut officiating.
Burial was in Bedford Cemetery, Monon.

Rebecca 'Becky' Booze
October 19, 1920 - October 3, 2001
Rebecca A. "Becky" Booze, 80, Monticello, died Wednesday, October 3, at Monticello Assisted Living and healthcare.
She was born October 19, 1920, to Samuel and Eva Standeford Witthoft, in Indianapolis. She was married June 19, 1943, to George C. Booze in Indianapolis. He died July 26, 1988.
She was a 1938 graduate of Shortridge High School, Indianapolis. She moved to Monticello in 1960 after leaving Indianapolis.
She worked for 14 years at RCA and was a hostess at Marmolijo's Trio Restaurant.
She was a member of the Reynolds United Baptist Church.
She was past president of the AARP. She was active in United Way and a member of the Lake Ladies Social Club. She was an avid bowler and card player.
Surviving are her daughter Judith A. Booze of Monticello; a son, Jeffrey D. (Pamela) Booze of Kokomo; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; brothers Samuel Witthoft and Louis Witthoft, both of Tucson, Arizona; a sister, Edith Coleman of Martinsville and several nieces and nephews.
Services were conducted Saturday at the Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home, Monticello, with Dr. Richard McQuinn and Rev. Dan Coomer officiating.
Burial was in Bedford Cemetery, Monon.
Memorials may be given to United Way.
Janelle Ruth Boyd
March 17, 1964 to Feb. 3, 2000
Janelle Ruth Boyd, 35, of Huntington, a former Monticello resident, died Thursday, Feb. 3, in Lafayette.
She was born March 17, 1964, to Charles and Mary Alice Bruton Smith, in Garrett. She was mar ried June 23, 1990, to David M. Boyd in Fort Wayne. He survives. She was a graduate of Twin Lakes High School and attended Purdue University and Central Bible College in Springfield, Missouri. She was a teller at Bank One Coventry Branch in Fort Wayne. She was a member of First Assembly of God Christian Center in Fort Wayne and taught four and five year olds at the church.
Surviving with her husband is her mother, Mary Alice Smith of Monon; sisters, Pam Howard, Lafayette and Becky Adams, Fort Wayne; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were Saturday at First Assembly of God Christian Center, with Pastors Ron Hawkins and Don Williams officiating. Burial was in Bedford Cemetery, Monon.
Memorials may be given to the First Assembly of God Christian Center.
Mary 'May' Ferguson
October 31, 1932 - June 7, 1999
Mary B. "May" Ferguson, 66, Buffalo, died Monday, June 7, at 3:55 p.m. at her residence. She had been in failing health for several months.
She was born Oct 31, 1932. to John and Margaret Shaw Adam Barr, in Scotland. She was married in 1958, to Jack Ferguson in England. He died August 4, 1982.
She had lived in the Buffalo community for more than 30 years.
She worked at the Monticello RCA plant for 15 years.
She is survived by two sons, Paul of Monticello and Glen of San Diego, Calif.; a daughter, Senga Peters, Monticello; five sisters, Jenette Kerr, Isa McDonald, Nan Sibbeld, Jessie Morton and Anna Friels, all of Scotland; a brother, Tommy Bryce of Scotland, and four grandchildren. A sister is deceased.
Funeral services were Thursday at Miller-Roscka Funeral Home, with Dr. James Elliott officiating.
Burial was at the Buffalo Cemetery.
Henry A. "Hank" Dalka
March 24, 1933 - December 30, 1990
Henry A. "Hank" Data, 57, Reynolds died unexpectedly at his home late Tuesday afternoon.
He was born March 24, 1933 in Pulaski County, the son of Emil and Hulda Kruger Dalka. He married Connie Brown Loy on December 5,1981 in Monon. She survives along with three stepsons, John Loy, Monticello and Jerry Loy and Jeff Loy of Reynolds. He is also survived by a daughter, Carla Risner and three sons, Terry Dalka, Doug Dalka and Jeff Dalka all of Winamac. One brother, Charles Dalka of Medaryville also survives. One brother and one sister preceded him in death. An Army veteran, he had spent the past 18 years in law enforcement, serving as a Pulaski County Sheriff's Deputy, Francesville Town Marshal and Monon Town Marshal. His latest employer was T & S Security, Monticello where he worked as a security guard at Rubbermaid plant near Reynolds. He was a member of the Medaryville Masonic Lodge, South Bend Valley of Scottish Rite and Orak Shrine Temple at Michigan City. He was a graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy and past vice president of the Indiana Town Marshal's Association.
Funeral services will be at Kellogg Funeral Home in Monon at 11:00 a.m. on Friday with Rev. George Thomson officiating. Burial will be in Bedford Cemetery
with full military rites. Friends may call at the Kellogg Funeral Home after 5:00 p.m. to day.
