Margaret Rupp
Margaret Ann Rupp, 74, of Evansville, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002, at Topsfield, Mass.
Surviving are three daughters, Debra Jo Rupp, Robin Lee Anthony and Rebecca Louise Stump; a sister, Dorothy Blair; a brother, Douglas Williams; and two grandchildren.
Services 11 a.m. Thursday at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel of Remembrance, burial in the cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time at the chapel of remembrance.
Charles 'Bob' Shepherd
Charles Robert "Bob" Shepherd, 87, died 10:40 p.m Monday, February 18, 2002, at Good Samaritan Home of leukemia.
He was born December 7, 1914.
Bob grew up in Geneva, Indiana. He graduated from Purdue University in 1942. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army CO. 131, Food Inspection Unit from 1942 until 1946, serving in the China, Burma, India (C.B.I.) Theater.
He retired in 1972 after 30 years of service in the postal department of Railway Mail Service.
Bob was a charter member of The Methodist Temple, where he served as an office volunteer for 30 years. He volunteered at the church day care, where he read to children who knew him as "Grandpa Bob." He also served as church membership secretary and church historian. He was a 60-year Mason and belonged to Reed Lodge. Memorial tributes may be made online at www.mem.com
Survivors are his wife of 58 years, Muriel Hengst Shepherd of Evansville; a son, William R. Shepherd of Evansville; a daughter, Sarah J. Pugmire of Meridian, Idaho; a brother, Joseph S. Shepherd of New Haven, Ind.; grandchildren, Matthew R. Shepherd of Ithaca, N.Y.; Nathan W. and Lauren Shepherd of Evansville, James and John Bower of Hayward, Calif., Wendy B. Danes of Houston, Texas; and Heather Hornbek of Pocatello, Idaho; five great-grandchildren; and 8 nieces and nephews.
Services Thursday 1:30 p.m. February 21, 2002, at Alexander East Chapel, Reverend Robert Coleman, Reverend Patrick Jackson and Reverend Charles Gipson officiating, burial in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation today, February 20, 2002, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Thursday, February 21, from noon to service time at Alexander East Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Methodist Temple or VNA Hospice.
Dr. James Tuholski
Dr. James M. Tuholski, of Stuart, Fla., and York Harbor, Maine, and formerly of Greenwich, Conn., died Saturday, February 16, 2002, of cancer at his home in York Harbor.
He was born on October 21, 1924 in Henning, Tenn,. He earned his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Tennessee, and completed his pediatric residency there. He later became president and CEO of Mead Johnson Co. of Evansville. He retired in 1984 from Bristol-Myers Squibb, where he served as executive vice president and then president of the Health Care Division.
Dr. Tuholski served as director of the Federal Reserve Board, St. Louis district. He also was on the University of Tennessee Development Council for twenty-four years. He was a board member of the Greenwich Country Club and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greenwich, Conn.
His first wife, Lois H. Tuholski, predeceased him in 1988.
He is survived by his wife, Sis Hoy Tuholski; five daughters, Lynn Sawyer and Nancy Tuholski Solomon of Arlington,Va., Betty Adams of Pelham, Ga., Gay Zervos of Norfolk Mass., and Sally Tuholski Gleeson of Stamford, Conn.; and ten grandchildren.
A private memorial service will be held at the family farm in Tennessee.
Memorial contributions may be made to the York Hospital in York, Maine, or Salvation Army.
Ira Bass
BOONVILLE - Ira R. Bass, 94, died Mon. (Feb. 18) at Deaconess Hospital in Evansville. He was a member of the Boonville Wesleyan Church. He retired from Whirlpool Corp. in 1973 after working 20 years. He was active in lawn and garden work.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Emma E. Bass, in 1989 and a daughter, Imogene Powers, in 1990.
Surviving are 1 daughter, Clara Brooks of Clermont, Fla.; 1 son, Lloyd R. Bass of Boonville; 1 sister, Lucille Brooks of Evansville; 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thurs. (Feb. 21) at Koehler Funeral Home Boonville Chapel, with burial in the Clark Cemetery
near Tennyson, Ind., Rev. Ed Ames officiating.
Friends may call from 3 until 8 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Thurs. at Koehler Funeral Home Boonville Chapel.
Dicie Coburn
MOUNT VERNON - Dicie M. Coburn, 95, died Saturday, February 16, 2002, at Mount Vernon Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
She was a homemaker and attended the Nazarene Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Verl Coburn, in 1967 and also her parents Joseph W. and Ida Cox Willis.
Surviving are two daughters, Dorothy M. McGuire and husband, Raymond N. of Bottineau, N.D., and Barbara Walker of Pacific, Mo., also seven grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Schneider Funeral Home Norvell Chapel. Visitation will be today, Feb. 20, 2002, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Schneider Funeral Home Norvell Chapel. Burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery
near Mount Vernon. Rev. Mark Tabor will officiate.
Millis Sullivan
WASHINGTON - Millis Irene Sullivan, 88, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2002, at Eastgate Manor Nursing Center.
Surviving are two sisters, Mercedes Fisher and Eugenia Peg Gilley.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. EST Thursday at Gill Funeral Home, burial in Gosport Cemetery

Clayton Batteiger
Clayton R. Batteiger, 72, of Evansville, died 9 p.m. Sunday, February 17, 2002, at Parkview Care Center.
He was born December 18, 1929. Clayton was a retired bricklayer after 51 years. He was a member of Bricklayers Union 4. He had served as president of the Local Bricklayers Union and he also served on the Joint Apprentice Committee and Negotiation Committee for the union.
He was one of the founders of the Southwestern Indiana Masonry Contractors Association and also had served as president. He also had been a self-employed contractor for 15 years.
He loved to travel and he loved the outdoors. He was a member of Howell United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Ruth L. Batteiger, on February 14, 1998.
Survivors are his wife of 2 years, Sue Reel-Batteiger of Evansville; a daughter, Connie Lovell of Evansville; sons, Curtis Batteiger and Keith Batteiger, both of Evansville; a sister, Ruthanna Bippus of Evansville; and grandchildren, Brian Lovell and Byron Batteiger, both of Evansville.
Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. February 21, 2002, at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel, Rev. Janice Y. Akers-Du Bois officiating, burial in Alexander Memorial Park.
Visitation Wednesday, February 20, 2002, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Alexander West Chapel and Thursday, February 21, 2002, from 10 a.m. until service time at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel.
Donations may be made to Howell United Methodist Church.
Lawrence Bitz
Lawrence B. Bitz, 82, of Evansville, passed away on Monday, February 18, 2002, at St. Mary's Medical Center.
He was a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. He retired after 16 years from Whirlpool Corporation. He enjoyed gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl E. (Pfingston) Bitz of Evansville; son, James A. "Jim" Luck and daughter, Judy Ragland, both of Evansville; 2 brothers, Paul and Dan Bitz, both of Evansville; 2 sisters, Cornealia Baumgart of Evansville and Mary Jane Olsen of Seattle, WA; 7 grandchildren, Cynthia Puls, James O. and Michael Luck, Timothy, Christopher and Heather Ragland and Stacia Morrison; and 12 great grandchildren.
Services will be on Thursday, February 21, at 9:30 a.m., at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, and continued at 10 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, with Fr. Henry Kuykendall officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m., with a memorial service at 6 p.m., at the funeral home. Burial will be at Park Lawn Cemetery.
Albert Brizius
Albert Frederick Brizius, 86, of Newburgh, died February 17, 2002, at St. Mary's Medical Center. Albert was born in Newburgh on August 16, 1915. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946. He worked for Hoosier Cardinal Corp., Shawnee Plastics and retired from Ball Plastics in 1980. He was a member of Newburgh United Methodist Church. He had been a resident of Cypress Grove Rehabilitation Center since November 1999.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Lydia Brizius; a half brother, Harold; and a half sister, Alma.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Leola Saberton Brizius of Newburgh; one daughter, Cynthia Weir of Hattiesburg, Miss.; two granddaughters, Shannon Weir of Red Lion, Pa., and Joy France of Beaufort, S.C.; three brothers, George of Evansville, Garland of Newburgh and Clarence of Dayton, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Simpson Funeral Home Newburgh Chapel, with entombment in Park Lawn Mausoleum, Rev. David Lee officiating.
Visitation will be today from 3 to 8 p.m. at Simpson Newburgh Chapel. If Friends wish, memorial contributions may be made to the church.
