Kenneth Wayne Stewart
November 14, 1965 - November 3, 2001
Kenneth Wayne Stewart, 516 Pennsylvania Ave., Plymouth, died unexpectedly at 11:53 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2001, in the Emergency Room of St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth. Wayne was 35 years old and had lived in Marshall County all of his life.
He was born on November 14, 1965, in Plymouth, the son of Eugene N. Stewart, Sr. and Naomi E. Egnor Stewart. He graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1984.
Wayne served his country in the United States Army and later worked as a laborer.
He enjoyed following Michigan State University sports, fishing the local rivers and camping at Jellystone Park. An outdoorsman, he was always in charge of the campfire and enjoyed cooking, indoors and out. He loved being with his nieces and nephews and spending time at home.
Wayne is survived by his parents, Eugene and Naomi, Plymouth and by three brothers and seven sisters. The brothers are: James L. and Sharon Stewart, Plymouth, the Rev. Arthur “Allen” and Betty Stewart, Dyersburg, Tenn., and Carl A. and Linda Stewart, Bourbon.
His sisters are: Pat and Raymond Harness, Mary E. and Dennis Hostetler, Grace E. and Raymond Hummel, Betty V. Pflugshaupt and friend Doug Whiteman, Candy L. and Michael Shufelt and Samantha G. Stewart, all of Plymouth and Ellen D. and David Kaiser, Walkerton.
Numerous nieces and nephews also survive as well.
Wayne was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene M. Stewart, Jr. and two nephews, Michael and Tony Stewart.
Visitation with the family will be on Monday, November 5, 2001, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, and for one hour prior to Tuesday’s services in the church.
The House of Prayer, 12450 Plymouth-Goshen Trail, where Wayne attended worship, will hold funeral services on Tuesday, November 6, 2001, at 11 a.m. Ronald Humphrey, pastor of the church, together with the Rev. Allen Stewart, brother of Wayne, will officiate.
Special military graveside rites at New Oakhill Cemetery
will be conducted by the VFW, #1162, Plymouth.
Memorial gifts in memory of Wayne may be made to the Marshall County Hospice or the Marshall County Mental Health Association.
Ruth I. Stoneburner
August 21, 1919 - September 23, 2001
Ruth I. Stoneburner, 82, Tyner, Ind., a Marshall County resident most of her married life, coming from Springfield, Missouri, died of natural causes in Miller’s Merry Manor, Walkerton, at 7:52 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23, 2001.
Born in Springfield, Mo., on August 21, 1919, she was the daughter of Alfred and Laura Alice Huggard Chandler. She attended Springfield schools.
She was first married to William Victor Williams who preceded her in death. On Nov. 4, 1961, in Plymouth, she was married to Henry E. Stoneburner, Sr. Henry died on Dec. 29, 1996.
In 1981, after being there for over 20 years, Ruth retired from the Marshall County Parkview Hospital as the Linen Supervisor. In addition, for many years, together with Henry, she was co-owner of the H& R Lamp Supply in Tyner, Ind.
Ruth loved to sew and cook for her family. She was an avid flower gardener and collected Rockwell collectibles and salt and pepper shakers among many other items.
She is survived by three daughters, a son and three step-sons. They are: daughters, Shirley and Richard Krull, Plymouth, Norma Rowe, Elkhart, and Carol and Wayne Pontius, Walkerton. Her son is William and Sandra Williams, LaPorte, and her step-sons are Henry E. and Leona Stoneburner, Jr., Hesperia, Mich., Richard and Carol Stoneburner and Robert L. and Linda Stoneburner, all of Plymouth.
Eighteen grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren, together with several nieces and nephews also survive.
A brother, Alfred Lee Chandler, Bradenton, Fla., and a sister, Fay Osborn, Springfield, Mo., survive as well.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husbands, a son, Robert Williams, a grandson, Tech. Sgt. Michael Stoneburner and a granddaughter, Lisa Stoneburner. A brother and a sister have also died.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001, at Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, and also for one hour prior to funeral services at the church on Wednesday.
Funeral services for Ruth will be held in the Sunrise Chapel, where she was a member, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2001. The Rev. Bob Beyler and Pastor Rustin Krapfl will officiate.
Burial will be in Tyner Cemetery, Tyner, Ind.

Des Neiges H. "Denny" Swisher
December 6, 1921 - July 20, 2001
Des Neiges “Denny” Swisher, 79, a Plymouth resident most of her life, died at 4:17 p.m. on Friday, July 20, 2001. Denny died of natural causes at her home, 905 Berkley St., Apt. 22, Neidlinger Garden Court.
She was born in Plymouth on Dec. 6, 1921, the daughter of J.R. and Agnes Nanick Klapp. She graduated from Plymouth High School with the class of 1941.
On Dec. 26, 1942, in Plymouth, Denny became the bride of R. Richard Swisher. Dick died on October 13, 1996.
Denny was the former co-owner of the Plymouth Office Supply. They sold the business in 1965 and moved to the Venice/Naples, Florida area, returning to Plymouth in 1983.
Denny was a lady of many talents with a great sense of humor. She was a people-person, very social and helpful to family and friends.
She liked to shop for antiques and enjoyed playing golf and doing arts and crafts, especially ceramics. She enjoyed bird watching and playing bridge.
She was a former member of Delta Theta Tau, a philanthropic sorority and a member of St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church.
Denny is survived by four daughters, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Her daughters are: Pamela J. and Dean Kennedy, Clinton, Ind., Peri J. and Arleigh Nelson, Dayton, Minn., Paula J. Swisher, South Bend and Patrice J. Swisher, Niles, Mich.
A sister, Jayne Derf, of Naples, Fla., Joy Klapp, a sister-in-law of Boca Raton, Fla., and Loreen Pinney, a sister-in-law, Knox, survive as well.
Denny was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse and Robert Klapp, a brother.
Visitation with the family will be on Monday, July 23, 2001, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services will be held in the New Oakhill Chapel, Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth, at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 24, 2001. Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery.

Maxine E. Thomas
January 17, 1923 - May 8, 2001
Former LaPaz resident, living in Marshall County most of her lifetime, Maxine Thomas, 78, 12833 Walnut Hill Drive, Lakeville, died at 11:40 a.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2001, at the Nephrology Inc. unit, 6201 Nimitz Parkway, South Bend. Maxine died of an apparent stroke during dialysis.
Maxine was born in LaPorte, Ind., on January 17, 1923, the daughter of Vern and Mabel Barber Dipert. She graduated from Plymouth High School in the class of 1941.
On September 13, 1941, Maxine and Paul “Bill” DeVon Thomas were married in Nappanee. Paul died on June 30, 1980.
Maxine had worked as the Food Service Director for the Plymouth Community School Corp. for twenty-three years. She retired in 1993.
Her main hobby was reading and collecting cook books and she enjoyed trying out new recipes. She liked cooking for a large crowd and catered weddings receptions in the area. After Bill died, for many summers she cooked at the Kiwanis Crippled Children’s Camp.
An active and caring person, Maxine was a member of the Plymouth Church of the Brethren and was past-president of the Plymouth Hospital Auxiliary, the Happy Homemakers and the Home Demonstration Club.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Diana and Larry Weiss of Lakeville, with whom she lived and her two grandsons and their families: Kirk and Christy Weiss and their daughters Kailyn and Kiley of Lakeville and Jeff and Donna Weiss of Indianapolis.
Three sisters and two brothers also survive. The sisters, all from Plymouth, are: Betty and Carl Coplen, Marian Paton and Ruth Ann and Don Anders. Her brothers are: Paul Dipert, Avon Park, Florida, and Gail and Jan Dipert of Michigan.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers: Deane, Richard, Robert and Roger and an infant granddaughter.
Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, May 10, 2001, from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services for Maxine will be at 11 a.m., Friday, May 11, 2001, in the Plymouth Church of the Brethren, 1130 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. The Rev. Dave Kerkove, pastor of the church, will officiate.
Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery.

Carmella Tondola
February 29, 1936 - May 18, 2002
Carmella R. Tondola, 66, living on Plum Street , has died of natural causes, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center , Plymouth , Indiana . Carmella is a former resident of Chicago , Illinois , and the daughter of the late John and Mary (Calabrese) Tondola.
Carmella is survived by her two sons, Joseph and Michael Aguirre, two grandchildren Alexa and Anthony and three sisters Theresa and (Richard) Schmidt, Mary Ann and (John) Barlog, Susan and ( Michael) Doronzo and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held from 3 to 9 P.M. on Wednesday, May 22, 2002 at Richard-Midway Funeral Home, 5749 Archer Ave. Chicago , Illinois .
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. Thursday, May 23, 2002 in Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church, Chicago , Illinois
Burial will be in the Mount Carmel Cemetery

Raymond W. Ullery
June 9, 1916 - August 9, 2001
Lifetime Plymouth resident, Raymond W. Ullery, 85, died of natural causes on Thursday, August 9, 2001, at 4:08 p.m. in Memorial Hospital, South Bend.
He was born the son of Frank P., and Marjorie Ross Ullery on June 9, 1916, at home in Tyner, Ind. Raymond attended Tyner High School.
On October 24, 1937, in Plymouth, Raymond and Cecile I. Markley were married.
Raymond was a lifetime member of the Church of the Brethren, most of those years at Plymouth. A transporter for Redman Homes Inc. of Topeka, Raymond retired in 1978 after 16 years on the road. He previously had worked for Skyline Corporation.
His hobby, like his vocation, was trucks and cars. Raymond enjoyed traveling and dinner dates with his wife of nearly 64 years. That love for driving took them to most every state in the Union. He was an outdoorsman and no stranger to yard work.
Raymond is survived by Cecile, his wife, their two sons, Larry W. and Barbara Ullery, Hallsville, Texas, Randy E. and Joanne Ullery, Bremen, Ind., and a daughter, Judy R. and Rod Miller, Plymouth.
A grandson and three granddaughters also survive. They are: Richard and Dawn Ullery, Bremen, Melinda and Kyle Hawkins, Valparaiso and Cari Miller and Kenzie Miller, both of Plymouth. Four great grandchildren and two sisters, Lelah Hendry of North Manchester, Ind. and Dorothy and Howard Mitchell of Rochester survive as well.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Lester Ullery.
Visitation with the family will be on Sunday, August 12, 2001, from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 13, 2001, in the Plymouth Church of the Brethren with visitation one hour prior to services. The Rev. David Kerkove, pastor of the church, will officiate.
Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery.
