Olen S. Roahrig
June 6, 1917 - June 4, 2002
Olen S. “Oley” Roahrig, 84, widely known in the area farming community, died at 7:16 p.m. on Tuesday, June 4, 2002. Oley died in the Bremen Hospital of natural causes.
Born the son of Ernest and Hazel Carpenter Roahrig on June 6, 1917 , Oley graduated from Plymouth ’s Lincoln High School with the class of 1936.
Three years later, on Sept. 24, 1939, in Inwood, Oley and Lovette “Betts” Rhoade were married.
A lifetime Marshall County resident, Oley and his wife bought the family farm in 1948. He also owned and operated Inwood Feed & Grain Elevator from 1960 until 1998. To the present he remained involved in farming, only giving up time on the tractor, last season.
Golf was a passion. He helped build the back nine at Fountainhead Golf Course. He was a Chicago Cub fan and enjoyed watching his son, Dave, grandson Stanley O. Jr. and now a great grandson, race stock cars on the NASCAR and Ind’y circuit. His grandchildren’s many activities were a source of pride and joy to Oley and he enjoyed wintering in Avon Park , Fla. , for the past 30 years, always involved in the Plymouth Day event.
He was a former member of the Inwood school board and past president of the Inwood P.T.A.
Oley is survived by his wife, Lovette of nearly 63 years, and by a daughter and two sons and their families.
His daughter is Judy A. and Roger McKinney, Argos , and his sons are David L. and Stephanie L. Roahrig and Stanley O. and Susie Roahrig, all of Plymouth.
Six grandchildren, six step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren also survive.
A brother, Darwin and Marcele Roahrig, Avon Park , Fla. , and Frances (Mrs. Willard) Lemler, Bourbon, together with several nieces and nephews survive as well.
Oley was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call on the family and share their memories of Oley from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 7, 2002, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Saturday, June 8, 2002, in the funeral home where Rev. Michael Dixon, pastor of the Inwood Methodist Church of which Oley was a member, will officiate.
Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

John R. Robinson
June 9, 1928 - June11, 2001
John R. (Jack) Robinson, 73, of 5206 Michigan St., a Plymouth resident since 1954, coming from Delphi, Ind., died, following a short illness, at 4:35 p.m. on Monday, June 11, 2001, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, Ind.
Born in Chicago, Ill., the son of Raymond and Ann Kalis Robinson on June 9, 1928, John graduated from St. Joseph Catholic Elementary School in Delphi and from Delphi High School in 1946, where he ran track and pole vaulted. In 1964, he received his diploma from LaSalle Extension University. He later took computer and data processing courses at Ancilla College.
John was a Corporal in the National Guard from 1948 to 1952 serving as a light weapons infantryman and rifle sharpshooter. He was a member of the LaPaz American Legion Post 385.
On September 8, 1952, in Delphi, John and Janet A. Boyer were married. Janet died on July 5, 1996.
Employed for 38 years on the railroad, John retired in 1990 from Conrail. For the past thirty years, he operated a part-time income tax service.
John loved stock car racing and owned a race car for twenty years. He was an avid golfer. He loved gardening and was a part-time bee keeper.
He is survived by a daughter and two sons. His daughter, Jane A. Robinson, lives in Springfield, Va. Son Michael A. and wife Jennie Robinson, live in Huntsville, Ala., and son Jim Robinson of Plymouth.
Five grandchildren also survive: Lexie, Cassie, Christine, Cyndie and John R. Robinson, all of Huntsville, Ala. A brother and sister-in-law, Arthur and Mary Ann Robinson, of Delphi, together with four nieces and a nephew, survive as well.
John was preceded in death by two sisters: Mary and Jean Robinson.
Visitation with the family will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, June 15, 2001, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services, conducted by the Rev. Charles Krieg, pastor of the Pretty Lake Trinity United Methodist Church, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2001, in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth, Ind., where military honors will be provided by the LaPaz American Legion Post 385.
Memorial gifts in John’s memory may be made to the Marshall County or the American Cancer Fund.
Robert L. Romine
April 27, 1949 - June 18, 2001
Robert L. “Bob” Romine, 52, 824 N. Plum St., Plymouth, a resident of Marshall and Starke Counties all of his life, died, following a lengthy illness, at 1:52 a.m. on Monday, June 18, 2001, in Porter Memorial Hospital, Valparaiso, Ind.
Bob was born on April 27, 1949, in Ober, Ind. He was the son of Bernard and Florence Dickson Romine. He attended Ober schools.
Never married, Bob did janitorial work at Culver Academy. He also mowed lawns and did outside work when he was able.
He enjoyed rebuilding lamps and restoring and collecting antique radios. He was an enthusiastic Bingo player and enjoyed the games.
Bob attended church in Ober.
He is survived by two sisters and two brothers. They are: Darlene and her husband, Clifford Merkel, Wanatah, Ind., Inez Earnest, Ron Romine and Bernard Romine, all of Ober.
Vernon Parrott of Plymouth, whom he raised as a son, also survives.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Donald Romine and Joy Shepperd, his companion of 21 years.
Visitation with his family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2001, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, Ind.
The Rev. Robert Kirby, pastor of the New Life Pentecostal Church, Hamlet, will officiate at funeral services at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2001, in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, North Judson, Ind.
Memorial gifts may be made to the family.
Verl E. Roose
March 25, 1919 - June 1, 2002
Verl Eldon Roose, 83, of 1060 Lincolnway East, Plymouth, died at 8:26 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2002, in Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.
Verl was born on Mar. 25, 1919, the son of Clarence O. and Emma Mae Stouder Roose.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the military for four years.
On May 16, 1942, in the Methodist church in Mentone, Ind., Verl and Freda Roose were married. The couple just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on a trip to Wisconsin.
A salesman for Schlosser Bros. Dairy & Ice Cream for 40 years, Verl worked most days from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. He retired after working for five years for Bomarko of Plymouth.
He loved to travel; he and Freda visited every state in the union and every province in Canada and Mexico.
For years Verl enjoyed parking cars at the Blueberry Festival for the Masonic Lodge. He was a loyal member of Lodge 149 and of the American Legion Post 27 in Plymouth.
Verl is survived by his loving wife, Freda and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Charles and Wayne and one sister, Helen Brundige.
Friends may come to share memories and visit with his family on Tuesday, June 4, 2002, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth. Masonic Memorial Rites will be provided at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
Funeral services, officiated by the Rev. Charles Krieg, will be held in the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, June 5, 2002.

Loretta K. Rosenstiehl
December 15, 1942 - September 7, 2001
Loretta K. Rosenstiehl, 58, died of a cancer-related illness, at 9:35 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, in the Hospice House of St. Joseph County. Loretta of 7928 Rose Road, Plymouth, was a Marshall County resident most of her life. She had however, lived in Melbourne, Fla. from 1984 until her recent return this spring.
Loretta was born in Havre De Grace, Maryland, on December 15, 1942. She was the daughter of Benjamin F. Colvin and Mildred E. Couts Colvin Reid.
A 1962 graduate of Plymouth High School, she also had attended West School and course work at Ancilla College.
In the Florida area, Loretta worked in the field of marketing and sales for residential building trades.
She had a strong appreciation of art and enjoyed many things such as bowling, movies, dancing and spending time with her family.
Loretta was baptized and attended services at the Christian Center in South Bend. She witnessed to others by her conviction of faith in God, and helped lead them to salvation. A caring person, she often prayed for those who were sick or in need.
She is survived by her mother and step-father, Mildred and Lee W. Reid, Culver, and by two daughters and a son. Her children are Jennifer L. Snyder, Plymouth, Elizabeth A. Saluter, Cocoa, Fla., and Michael W. Snyder, Plymouth.
Two granddaughters, Jennifer K. and Matt Astle, Cocoa, Fla., and Lisa M. Wagers, Argos, also survive together with two grandsons, David M. Saluter and Joshua Saluter, both of Merritt Island, Fla. Two brothers survive as well; they are: Larry D. Colvin, Ft. Myers Beach, Fla., and Bruce W. Colvin, Canaveral Groves, Fla.
Loretta was preceded in death by her father and by Ronald L. Colvin, an infant brother.
Friends may visit with the family on Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2001, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.
Funeral services in the funeral home will follow visitation at 7 p.m.
A Pastor from the Christian Center, South Bend, will officiate at Loretta’s services.
Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.
