Mildred Cramer

July 7, 1908 - September 25, 2001

Mildred Cramer, a lifetime area resident, living on Lilac Rd., for 44 years, then in Garden Courts East and the last year at Miller’s Merry Manor, 600 Oakhill Ave., died of natural causes at the Manor at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2001. Mildred was 93 years old.

She was born in Linkville, Indiana on July 7, 1908, the daughter of Elmer E. and Estella A. Michael Reese. She attended Shiloh and Linkville schools.

On March 12, 1927, in Plymouth, Mildred and Charles D. Cramer were married. Charles died on March 18, 1979.

A homemaker, Mildred assisted her husband on the farm. She also worked in the LaPaz school cafeteria for 15 years.

She loved cooking and was known for her fantastic pies. She enjoyed sewing and quilting, canning and gardening. Family reunion dinners were prime times for her and her husband.

An active member of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church she was a member of the Helpful Hour and a former Sunday School teacher.

Mildred is survived by three sons. They and their wives are: Kenneth D. and Margaret Cramer, Glendale, Arizona and Ross L. and Marilyn Cramer and C. Larry and Patricia A. Cramer, all of Plymouth.

Fifteen grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren, together with two sisters-in-law, Lois Guard, Bremen and Dorothy Reese, Plymouth, several nieces and nephews, also survive.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Charles, three brothers, David, Noble and Raymond Reese and four sisters: Vera Marks, Lula Marks, Marie Winrotte and Ruth Baumgartner.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2001, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth, and for one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Friday.

Funeral services on Friday, Sept. 28, 2001, will be at 11 a.m. in the Plymouth Wesleyan Church. A grandson, Rev. Mike Cramer, pastor of the New Life Baptist Church, Mishawaka, and Pastor Bob Vardaman, the seniors pastor of the Plymouth Wesleyan Church, will officiate.

Burial will be in the New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

Memorial gifts in Mildred’s memory may be made to the Plymouth Wesleyan Church.

Juanita A. Creighbaum

June 1, 1927 - March 4, 2002

Lifetime Plymouth resident, Juanita A. Creighbaum, 74, living at 822 W. LaPorte St., Plymouth, for the past 54 years, died, following an extended illness, at 4:45 p.m., Monday, March 4, 2002, in St. Joseph Medical Center, Plymouth.

Born on June 1, 1927, in Plymouth, Ind., Juanita was the daughter of John and Flora Mae Herndon Gilley. She was a graduate of Plymouth High School.

On March 29, 1947, in Plymouth, Juanita and Donald B. Creighbaum were married. Donald died on Feb. 9, 1998.

Juanita was a kind and caring baby sitter for her family and for area residents.

She enjoyed reading and cooking and was involved with her children and grandchildren’s activities. An animal lover, she was a Humane Society volunteer and assisted with their fund raising.

A former member of the Women of the Moose, she was active in the Marshall County Democrat Party.

Juanita is survived by three sons and their families: Daniel E., his wife Della, and their children; Nicholas, Benjamin, Emily, Jacob and Bethany Creighbaum. Kent J. Creighbaum, and Brent A., his wife Darla and their children; Krista, Tara and Jeana Creighbaum, all of Plymouth.

Two brothers, Al and Marge Gilley, Plymouth and Donald and Nancy Gilley, Nappanee, survive, together with a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Marjorie and George Schlosser, of Argos. Several nieces and nephews survive as well.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, Ben Gilley, a brother and Mildred Enders, a sister.

Visitation with the family will be from 3 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2002, in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.

The Rev. Charles Krieg, pastor of the Pretty Lake Trinity United Methodist Church where Juanita had attended services, will officiate at her funeral in the funeral home on Friday, March 8, 2002, at 10:30 a.m.

Burial will be in New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

Memorial gifts in Juanita’s memory may be made to either the Cancer or the Humane Society.

Lawrence Ladd Culbertson

December 9, 1910 - December 22, 2001

Lawrence Ladd Culbertson, died of natural causes at 12:20 p.m., Saturday, December 22, 2001 in the Michigan Masonic Home, Alma, Michigan; where he had resided since March of 1999.

Larry was born the son of Lewis H. and LeNora Belle Greene Culbertson, on December 9, 1910 in Marion, Indiana. Raised in Marion, he was a 1928 graduate of Marion High School.

On December 2, 1956 in Burr Oak, Indiana, Larry married the former Olive A. (Lee) Burkett. She survives and resides at the Masonic Home in Alma.

Larry and his wife co-owned and operated the Culbertson Market in Baldwin, Michigan from 1960 to 1977. There he was a Past President of the Baldwin Rotary Club, and the Baldwin Chamber of Commerce, also having served as a Lake County Commissioner. He held membership in the Baldwin Eastern Star and was a life member of the Masonic Lodge of Cassopolis, Michigan.

He had been a former employee of the South Bend Bendix Corporation for 17 years. For many years the Culbertson’s resided in Culver and South Bend, Indiana.

Survivors include his wife Olive, a daughter, Starr and her husband Joseph Kachoris of Niles, Michigan and a son, Lawrence L. and his wife Jennifer of Spring Lake, Michigan. Eight grandchildren and six great-grand children also survive.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold E. and William L. Culbertson.

As were his wishes, there will be no services or visitation, cremation will take place and his ashes returned to the Baldwin area he so loved.

Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to the Michigan Masonic Home, 1268 Masonic St. Alma, Michigan 48801.

Don E. Davidson

July 20, 1930 - April 27, 2002

Don E. Davidson, 71, 7434 11A Road, Inwood, suffered an unexpected heart attack and died in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth, at 12:26 p.m. on Saturday, April 27, 2002.

A lifetime Marshall County resident, Don was born in Inwood, the son of Edward W. and Edna Harris Davidson, on July 20, 1930. He attended Inwood and Plymouth schools.

During the Korean Conflict, Don served his country in the United States Army.

On July 23, 1953, at the Inwood United Methodist Church, Don and Doris L. Smith were married.

Self-employed as a painter and carpenter, Don was currently working part-time for the City of Plymouth at the Waste-Water Treatment plant, having started there on April 30, 1990. He also had been a Plymouth school bus driver for 28 years.

He was a friendly, out-going person and enjoyed having coffee with his friends at the truck stop. A loving family man, his best times were spent with his family and grandchildren.

Don is survived by Doris, his wife of almost 49 years and their children, three daughters and two sons.

The daughters and their husbands are: Ann and Mark Jones, Plymouth; Londa and Steve Masterson, Tyner, and Sherry and Terry Harman, also of Plymouth. His sons and their wives are: Donnie and Susie Davidson and Chris and Robin Davidson, all of Plymouth.

Ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive together with three brothers and two sisters. The brothers are Dick Davidson, Howe, Ind., and Lysle “Skip” and Fran Davidson, Plymouth, and Ronnie Davidson, residing in Kentucky.

Both sisters live in Plymouth; Darla Carlberg and Barbara and Larry McCan.

Don was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Chester D. and Junior Davidson.

The family will receive friends and share memories of Don from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2002 , in the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St. , Plymouth.

Services in the funeral home will be at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2002. The Rev. Alice Archer, pastor of Mt. Pleasant Church of the Brethren and the Rev. Mike Dixon, pastor of the Inwood United Methodist Church, will officiate.

Full military graveside services provided by the VFW Post 1162 will be held at New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth.

Memorial gifts in Don’s memory may be made to the Marshall County Hospice.

Raymond A. Davis

December 21, 1928 - February 26, 2002

Raymond A. “ Ray” Davis, 73, 612 S. Michigan St., a Plymouth resident since 1999, coming from Riverside, Calif., died, following an illness, at 8:36 a.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Plymouth.

Born in Indianapolis, Ind., on Dec. 21, 1928, Ray was the son of Arch R. and Lorena M. Joyce Davis. He attended Indianapolis schools, earning his G.E.D. while a member of the United States Marine Corp.

Ray served his country as a Marine during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was a member of the Plymouth V.F.W., #1162.

On Feb. 25, 1951, in Barstow, Calif., Ray and Nancy A. O’Dell were married.

After his retirement from the service, he was a cross-country truck driver and the owner/operator of the business.

His family was his biggest love. An avid reader, he was also a gun collector.

Ray is survived by Nancy, his wife of 51 years, and their son, Scott and his wife, An, and his father-in-law Leonard O’Dell, all of Plymouth.

A granddaughter, Nicole Davis, Plymouth, and two grandsons, Raymond J. Davis, of Plymouth, and Joshua and Jamie Davis and their daughters, Hannah and Rose, all of San Diego, Calif., also survive.

A daughter-in-law, Ruth B. Davis of Hemet, Calif., two nephews, Robert and Toni Tolbert, Plymouth, and Roland Jordan, Davenport, Iowa, and a niece, Janice Meredith, Plymouth, survive as well.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Josephine Jordan, and two sons, Arch and Timothy Davis.

Friends may visit with Ray’s family from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2002, at the Johnson-Danielson Funeral Home, 1100 N. Michigan St., Plymouth.

Funeral service in the funeral home will follow visitation at 11 a.m. Pastor Paul Spasic, of the Plymouth Christ Fellowship of which Ray was a member, will officiate.

military graveside services by Engineer Company B, 6th Engineer Support Battalion of South Bend will take place at the New Oakhill Cemetery, Plymouth, Ind.

Memorial gifts may be made in Ray’s memory to the Disabled American Veterans.
