Paul Raymond Lock, age 82, of 2269 W 350 S, Columbia City, IN 46725 died during his sleep early Monday, August 11, 2003 at his residence. He was born on June 18, 1921 in Churubusco, IN to James L. and Goldie P. (Maggart) Lock.
He married Marjorie I. Breisch on August 11, 1954 at Grace Lutheran Church by Pastor Graham L. Kleespie in Columbia City, IN. She survives. Mr. Lock was reared in Churubusco and lived there until his marriage when he and his wife moved to their present home. He attended Churubusco High School. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, Columbia City, IN. In 1980, he retired from his position as the janitorial department group leader for the Dana Corporation, Fort Wayne, IN.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie I. Lock of Columbia City, IN; 3 sons, Craig (Kathy) Lock of Martinsville, IN, James (Cindy) Lock of Columbia City, IN, Daniel (Lisa) Lock of Wolf Lake, IN; 1 daughter, Paula (Loren) Kauffman of Columbia City, IN; 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren;
2 sisters, Ada VanDeman and Helen Groves both of Columbia City, IN; 2 brothers, Eugene Lock of Albion, IN and Arthur Lock of Churubusco, IN.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Norbert Lock, one infant sister, Velma, and two grandchildren, Scott and Corina.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, August 14, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor David Salyer from Victory Christian Fellowship Church officiating. Dale Evan Reichard, age 87, of Columbia City, IN died at 5:45 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2003 at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City. He was born in Portland, IN on September 3, 1915 to Noah W. and Mahala (Brumm) Reichard.
He resided in Jay County, IN during his childhood and he attended high school in Milford, IN. He married Maxine E. Shriver in South Whitley, IN on February 20, 1938. After his marriage, he moved to Whitley County, moving to Kosciusko County for 10 years. He then returned to Whitley County and operated a dairy farm in Etna-Troy Township until his retirement in 1978 when he moved to his present home. He is a member of Farmer's Elevator, South Whitley, IN.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine of Kimmell; 3 sons, Larry (Darlene McIntire) Reichard of Ligonier, IN, Randall G. (Donna) Reichard of Columbia City, and Richard E. (Michele) Reichard of Fort Wayne, IN; a daughter, Janice (Tony) Clingerman of Kimmel, IN; 14 grandchildren, 13 great- granchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, and 14 step-great-granchildren; a brother, Milo Reichard of Tippecanoe, IN. Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, Avis Bowler, brothers, Dwight, Paul, Wilson and Harley Reichard, and 1 great grandchild.
Visitation is from 3-8 p.m. on Thursday, August 14, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. The funeral service is 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 15, 2003 at the funeral home with Pastor J. Phillip Blake from Columbia City United Methodist Church officiating. H. Carlton Hasty, age 82, of 1300 N SR 109, Columbia City, IN died suddenly, Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2003 at his residence. He was born on May 16, 1921 in Jefferson Township, Whitley County, IN to Melvin A. and Eliza (Hatfield) Hasty.
He graduated from the former Jefferson Center High School with the Class of 1939. He was reared in Jefferson Township and made his residence there until moving permanently to his Crooked Lake home. He moved to his current home on SR 109 in Thorncreek Township about 10 years ago. He married Donnis Irene Holloway on December 25, 1942 in the parsonage of the United Brethren Church, Fort Wayne, IN.
Mr. Hasty was a retired farmer, specializing in raising Dorset sheep. His family received the 100 year old Hoosier Homestead Award several years ago. He also worked at International Harvester, the General Electric Company and Dana Corporation. He also was a bar tender at Tri Lakes Tavern, the 9 & 14 Restaurant, Goose Lake Restaurant and the Fraternal Order of Ealges Lodge #1906 all of Columbia City, as well as driving a long distance delivery truck for the Green Acres Sod Farm.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge #1906 and the Crooked Lake Golf Club, former choir director of Jefferson Chapel United Methodist Church, former member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, Laud, IN, volunteered with the Whitley County 4-H Sheep Club, and a member of N.E.O., all of Columbia City. He also was an avid golfer and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife, Donnis I. Hasty of Columbia City; 1 daughter, Connie L. (Danny J.) Long of Kimmell, IN; 2 granddaughters, Mrs. Amy Jo (Randal G.) Butler of Glenrock, WY and Buffy (Jeff) Neumann of Hubert, N.C. and 2 great-grandchildren including Randi Christine and Lincoln Thomas Sherman Butler both of Glenrock, WY. He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 22, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with John Whiteleather presiding. Eagles Lodge #1906 will conduct a twilight memorial service at 8:00 p.m. Thursday, August 21, 2003 at the funeral home. Richard D. North, age 81, of Montgomery, Michigan, died at Evergreen Manor Nursing Home, Montpelier, Ohio on August 17, 2003. He was born in Whitley County, IN on April 29, 1922 to Charles and Rhoda (Cook) North.
He was raised around Wilson Lake and he graduated with the Class of 1941 from Larwill High School, Larwill, IN. After graduation, he served in the US Marine Corps during World War II from 1942-1945. He served in the liberation of Guadalcanal.
He married Eudora Moore from Boston, MA. He was a former member of American Legion Post #156, Montgomery, MI and a past master of Due Guard Masonic Lodge, Larwill, IN. In 1983, he retired as a truck driver for Coastal Tank Lines at Chicago Terminals. During his retirement years, he enjoyed mini-farming.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Eudora of Montgomery, MI; brothers, Mr. Robert North of Phoenix, AZ, Mr. Phil North of Queen Creek, AZ and Mr. Gale North of Larwill, IN; a twin sister, Mary Gebert of Columbia City, IN and sisters, Martha Doepker, Citra, FL and Betty Blain of Larwill, IN. Preceding him in death aaare his parents, a brother, Donald and an infant sister, Marjorie.
Services will be held at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN on Saturday, September 13, 2003 at 10:00a.m. with Pastor Curtiss Johnson, retired pastor of Community Bible Church officiating. Burial and military graveside services will follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton, IN.
David Jonathan Boyer, age 34, a former Columbia City resident and currently of Van Wert, OH died at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 24, 2003 at the Lutheran Hospital of Indiana where he was admitted late Thursday. He was born in Fort Wayne, IN on December 10, 1968 to William E. and Mary Ann (Jackson) Boyer. He attended North Manchester High School through the 12th grade.
He has spent his lifetime in Fort Wayne, Columbia City, Pierceton, Sidney, North Manchester, back to Fort Wayne, Convoy, OH and lastly in Van Wert, OH. He was a member of the Van Wert Eagles Lodge. He was a truck driver for Goodwill Industries of Northeastern Indiana, Fort Wayne, IN. He married Sherrie Renee Rhoades on September 30, 1999 in Van Wert, OH.
Survivors include his wife, Sherrie Renee Boyer, Van Wert, OH; 2 sisters, Rose Ann (Allan) Rhoades, Convoy, OH and Marsha Smith, Van Wert, OH; several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Deborah Jon Boyer.
Visitation will be held from 1:00-8:00 p.m. (2-9:00 p.m. Ohio time) on Wednesday, August 27, 2003 at the DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN with Pastor Neil Hammons of the Trinity Friends Church, Van Wert, OH. Jenavev L. Hollenbaugh, age 94, formerly of Laud and currently a resident at 413 North Wolf Road, Apt. 207, Oak Pointe Living Center, Columbia City, IN 46725 died on Thursday, August 28, 2003 at 12:10 a.m. at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City, IN where she had been admitted a few hours earlier.
She was born on December 15, 1908 in Fort Cobb, Caddo County, OK to John and Nancy (Fuller) Maxson. She attended the public schools of Oklahoma and then married Clem Earl Hollenbaugh on December 28, 1927 in Cordell, Oklahoma. In 1928 she moved to Jefferson Township, Whitley County, IN and spent her adult lifetime in the Laud area moving to the Oak Pointe Living Center in 2000. She was a member of Laud Christian Church, the Christian Women's Fellowship of the church and the Laud Rebekah Lodge.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Joyce Carney of Fort Wayne, IN; Mrs. Harris C. (Wanda) Hine of Dayton, IN and Mrs. Arnold Eugene (Wanita) Lefever, Columbia City, IN; 1 son, Max E. (Bonnie) Hollenbaugh of Columbia City, IN; 17 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren; 1 sister Inemia Samuelson of Stockton, CA; 1 brother, Robert Maxson of Lantana, FL. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Clem Earl Hollenbaugh, who died on July 6, 1969, 2 sisters, Veda Maxson Womak and Nadene Burdick and 2 brothers, Noble and Clark Maxson.

Thresa M. Paunovich, age 71, of 112 Rolling Hills, Columbia City, IN 46725 passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2003 at 2:48 p.m. at Parkview Whitley Hospital, Columbia City, IN. She had been in failing health for the past few months.
She was born on December 30, 1931 in Vandergrift, PA to Anthony Vodzak and Mary Vida she was raised in North Vandergrift, PA moving to Columbia City, IN in 1963. She attended Vandergrift Heights High School for 10 years. She married John Paunovich on May 3, 1952 in Vandergrift, PA. She was a homemaker, enjoyed flowers, gardening, bowling and her family.
She was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church, Columbia City, IN and was a 2nd grade teacher and 1st communion teacher at St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church for 15 years. She also was on a Columbia City bowling league for many years.
She is survived by 4 daughters, Cynthia (Fred) Sharkey of Etna Green, IN; Lois (Robert) Ogden of Columbia City, IN; Patricia Trumbull of Columbia City, IN and Stacey Paunovich of Fort Wayne, IN; 1 son Kevin (Kim) Paunovich, Columbia City, IN; 2 brothers, Anthony (Julia) Vodzak of North Apollo, PA and Louis (Betty) Vodzak of Lafayette, CA; 1 sister, Eleanor (Raymond) Steffanina, Leechburg, PA; 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, John who passed away on June 27, 2003, 1 brother, Cyril Vodzak and 1 sister Ana Mae Chruscik.

Patricia Ann Shaver, age 59, of 314 South Line Street, Columbia City, IN 46725 died at 9:55 p.m. on Sunday, August 31, 2003 at the Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. She had been in failing health since September 2002.
She was born on September 19, 1943 in Chicago, Cook County, IL to Herbert R. and Marie R. (Haws) Busse. She graduated from Highland Park High School, Highland Park, IL with the Class of 1961. She then attended and graduated from beauty college in Illinois after high school.
She was reared in the Chicago, IL area and then lived at Ft. Bliss, TX and Hawaii for 3 years while her husband was in the military moving to Fort Wayne, IN for 2 1/2 years before moving to Columbia City, IN and living here for the past 33 years.
She married Raymond Howard Shaver on February 23, 1963 in Deerfield, IL. She was a member of St. Paul of the Cross Catholic Church and served as the church sacristan and also an eucharistic minister for 17 years. She was a former employee of the Christian Resource Center, Columbia City, IN.
She is survived by her husband Raymond Howard Shaver, Columbia City, IN; 1 sister, Jeanette Eames, Zion, IL and 3 nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and one infant sister.

Dale Eugene Huntley, age 49, of 595 Golden Avenue, Columbia City, IN died in his sleep early Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at his residence. He was born in Columbia City, IN on April 6, 1954 to Cecil H. Huntley, Jr. and B. Joan (Hursey) Huntley.
He graduated from Columbia City High School with the Class of 1973. He has spent his lifetime in
Columbia City except for 4 years in Michigan. He was a former employee of Smitty's Electric, former owner of Huntley Electric and he currently was employed as an electrician for Whetstone Electric, Columbia City.
He is survived by his children, Adam M. Huntley, Angelia N. Huntley, Scott M. Huntley, and Brant W. Huntley all of Columbia City; his mother, B. Joan Huntley of Columbia City; 1 brother, Tom Huntley of Phoenix, AZ; 2 sisters, Mrs. Nancy (Jim) Mooney of Rochester, IN and Mrs. Vickie (George) Born of Montpelier, IN; his fiance, Julie A. Garrow of Columbia City; 3 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Cecil H. Huntley, Jr., who died on October 1, 2000, twin children, Bryan E. and Kristia R. Huntley who died August 7, 1977, and all his grandparents.

Juanita J. Jackson, age 62, of 5251 W 450 S, Albion, IN 46701, died at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, 2003 at the Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. She was born in Whitley County, IN on September 19, 1940 to Homer C. Sr., and Mable M. (Brown) Hursey.
She attended Thorncreek school in Whitley County and later in life earned her G.E.D. She married James R. Jackson, Sr. on February 5, 1962 in Columbia City by Reverend Graham Kleespie. A housewife and homemaker, she has spent her lifetime in the Whitley County area and she has been a resident of Big Lake area since her marriage.
Survivors include her husband, James R. Jackson, Sr. of Albion, IN; a son, Bazil C. Jackson of Albion; step-children, Richard S. Jackson of Arkansas, Debra S. Jackson of Columbia City, and James R. Jackson, Jr. of Phoenix, AZ; 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Jim (Ida Mae) Staples of Columbia City and Homer (Carol) Junior Hursey of Columbia City; and a sister, Mildred Harrison of Albion, IN.
Preceding her in death were her parents, 4 sons, Gerald Dean Egner, Lincoln Bacal Jackson, Hank Richard Jackson, and Matthew Mark Jackson, a daughter, Nita Dawn Hursey, a brother, Frank Nicholson and a sister, Sharon Harrison.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. on Friday, September 5, 2003 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City, IN. A graveside service is scheduled at 2:00 p.m. at Thorn Cemetery, Ormas, Noble County, IN on Friday, September 5 with Pastor J. Phillip Blake officiating. Michael Ora Kurtz, age 61, of 7896 North Brown Road, Columbia City, IN died suddenly on Saturday, September 6, 2003 at 8:00 a.m. at his Loon Lake residence. He was born on June 9, 1942 in Arcola, IN to Ora Ralph and Catherine Ann (Sinnigen) Kurtz.
He graduated from Arcola High School, Arcola, IN with the Class of 1960. He then received a 4 year basketball full scholarship at Tulane University where he graduated and then received his teaching degree from Goshen College, Goshen, IN. He was reared in Arcola, IN and after his college graduations he lived in Goshen, IN and taught history and coached basketball at Goshen High School. He then purchased a tri-state Harvestore franchise (blue grain storage units) serving Ohio, Michigan and Indiana farmers for many years. Any grain bin storage unit with a United States flag on the silo was designed and erected by his company. After his retirement, he was a salesman for Thomson's Whitley County Motor Sales, Columbia City, IN.
He spent his lifetime in several locations including, Arcola, Goshen, Belvidere and Hagerstown, IN, Lake Somerset, IL, Washington Court House, OH, Carmel, IN, Virginia Beach, VA and for the past 12 years, at his lake home on Loon Lake. Mike was an avid golfer.
He is survived by 2 daughters, Michele L. Kurtz and son-in-law, Scott Sidney Greenberger, Boston, MA and Heather L. and son-in-law, J. Andrew Davis, Indianapolis, IN; his mother, Catherine Ann Kurtz, Detroit, MI; 3 sisters, Nancy Stephan, Indianapolis, IN, Linda (Phil) Schubert, Fort Wayne, IN and Kim (Nick) Kurtz-Seslar, Detroit, MI; 3 grandchildren, Drew Michael and Hannah Nicole Davis, Indianapolis, IN and Sydney Miriam Greenberger, Boston, MA. He is preceded in death by his father, Ora Ralph Kurtz, who died in 2001.
