James J. Shuttleworth
James J. Shuttleworth, 65, of Huntington died at approximately 5:00 PM on Thursday, February 20, 2003 from injuries sustained in an airplane accident in Wabash County, Indiana.
Mr. Shuttleworth was born August 2, 1937 in Muncie, Indiana a son of Charles A. and Marie (Lavere) Shuttleworth. He was a 1955 graduate of Warren High School. He graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University School of Mechanical Engineering.
He was united in marriage to Carol Longaker on August 7, 1970 in Huntington. His wife survives.
He was the president and chief executive officer of Shuttleworth Incorporated, an international manufacturer of Engineered Automation Solutions, Conveyors and Devices. Every item manufactured by Shuttleworth Incorporated has been conceived and designed at Shuttleworth and has been exported around the world. Mr. Shuttleworth holds numerous patents on various designs and inventions.
Mr. Shuttleworth was well recognized for his interest in collecting, restoring and flying vintage World War II airplanes. He also enjoyed fishing for trout and bass. Along with his wife Carol, Jim enjoyed helping support and encourage a wide range of Huntington County organizations, museums and charities. Mr. Shuttleworth was a past-president of the Huntington County Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of the Huntington Optimist`s Club. He is a member of the United Brethren Church. He was a co-founder of the Wings of Freedom Museum of Huntington, Indiana.
Shuttleworth Machinery Corporation was established May 21, 1962 by James J. Shuttleworth. The Shuttleworth Can Unscrambler and the Futurematic Casepacker were the original products manufactured in Huntington, Indiana and licensed in Holland, England and Australia. In 1972, the first prototype of the Shuttleworth Slip-Torque Conveyor was developed. The, Slip-Torque technology is the cornerstone of our business.
In April of 1974, the company became known as Shuttleworth Incorporated. Also in 1974, Taiko-Shuttleworth was established as a joint venture manufacturing facility in Japan.
In 1978, Shuttleworth Incorporated was manufacturing conveyors in Belgium. Shuttleworth Europe Limited (SEL) was formed in 1980. SEL oversees all European operations. Currently, SEL`s manufacturing facility is located in Athy, Ireland and SEL`s sales and service center is in Gent, Belgium.
Shuttleworth`s automation products include: Slip-Torque Conveyor Systems, Slip-Trak Conveyor Systems, Programmable Swingers, Indexers and other related machinery. Shuttleworth Incorporated provides products and service to the Consumer, Semiconductor, Flat Panel Glass, PC Board, Computers and Peripherals, Printing and Binding, Automotive, Healthcare and Food/Beverage Industries.
The Employees of Shuttleworth, Inc. produce quality in-process material handling machinery through world class engineering and excellent service dedicated to complete customer safisfaction.
Mr. Shuttleworth received the Distinguished Engineering Alumus Award from the Purdue School of Engineering in 1990. The Purdue University School of Mechanical Engineering named him the 1991 Outstanding Mechanical Engineer. He was named the 1997 State of Indiana Entrepreneur of the Year. He received an honorary doctorate from Huntington College in 1998. He was an honorary member of the 434th Fighter Squadron of the 479th Fighter Group.
Additional survivors include: three sons; Tod Gavin Shuttleworth of Hendersonville, TN, Troy James Shuttleworth of Cyprus, TX, and Charles John Shuttleworth of Huntington, IN; one daughter; Mrs. Gregory (Trea) Will of Galena, OH; six grandchildren; four brothers; Donald Shuttleworth and William Shuttleworth both of Warren, IN, Jerry Shuttleworth of Bluffton, IN, and Timothy Shuttleworth of Girard, PA.
He was preceded in death by: two brothers; Robert Shuttleworth and Thomas Shuttleworth; one sister; Susan Smith.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 24, 2003 from 2:00 - 8:00 PM at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 25, 2003 at 11:00 AM at the Emmanuel Community Church, 12222 US 24 West, Fort Wayne, Indiana with Dr. C. Ray Miller, Dr. Eugene B. Habecker,
Dr. G. Blair Dowden and Rev. Kyle McQuillen officiating. There will be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the service.
Entombment will take place at a later date in the Pilgrim`s Rest Cemetery
in Huntington.

Dorma C. Greene
Dorma C. Greene, 84 of Markle died at 6:14 AM on Thursday, February 20, 2003 at Markle Health care in Markle. Mrs. Greene was a homemaker. She ran the Markle Pool from 1959 - 1973. She was a member of the Markle United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She was a 1937 graduate of East Union High School.
She was born on April 10, 1918 in Adams County, Indiana a daughter of Charles and Hazel (Graham) Folk.
She was united in marriage to Halden R. Greene on March 15, 1941 in Huntington.
Survivors include her husband: Halden Bud Greene of Markle; two sons: Ronald L. Ron Greene of Markle; David L. Greene of Fort Wayne; four sisters: Maxine Collins of Fort Wayne; Faye Wilson of Markle; Margaret Furnas of Casselberry, FL; Betty Rodenbeck of Huntington; six grandchildren; three step grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.
Visitation will be on Saturday, February 22, 2003 from 3:00 - 7:00 PM at the Myers Funeral Home Markle Chapel, 415 N. Lee Street, Markle, Indiana.
Services will be held on Sunday, February 23, 2003 at 2:00 PM at the Myers Funeral Home Markle Chapel with Pastor Gary Allen officiating.
Interment will be at the Markle Cemetery
in Markle.

Dwight G. Shafer
Dwight G. Shafer, 82 formerly of Union Township, Huntington, died at 7:07 PM on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 at his home in Warren. Mr. Shafer farmed in Union Township from 1944 - 2002. He was a long time member of Union Church. He was a bus driver for Union Township and Huntington County Community Schools for 28 years. He was bank director for the Exchange Bank of Warren and the First National Bank of Huntington from 1968 - 1995. He was a 1938 graduate of Salamonie Township High School.
He was born on August 9, 1920 in Warren, Indiana a son of Harry P. and Dalta Garretson Shafer.
He was united in marriage to Mary Martha Good on March 6, 1943. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include two sons: Timothy E. Shafer of O`Fallon, IL; Richard G. Shafer of Warren, OH; two sisters: Ilene (Shafer) Marshall of North Manchester; Martha J. (Shafer) Richardson of Warren; two brothers: Philip J. Shafer of Huntington; Hugh A. Shafer of Warren; seven grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister: Leila (Shafer) Kirtley and a brother: Maurice Shafer.
Visitation will be on Friday, February 21, 2003 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel.
Services will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2003 at 11:00 AM at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Dr. Howard Cherry officiating.
Interment will be at the Union Cemetery
in Huntington County.

Beverly Ann Ray
Beverly A. Ray, 66 of Huntington died at 6:24 PM on Saturday, February 15, 2003 at Parkview Huntington Hospital. Mrs. Ray was a homemaker. She was a 1954 graduate of Bippus High School. She was a kind and generous person. She loved her family, her grandchildren and she loved animals.
She was born on April 14, 1936 in Huntington County, a daughter of Delbert A. and Sarah E. Wamsley Miller.
She was united in marriage to Forse C. Ray on July 23, 1955 in Huntington. He preceded her in death on May 26, 2001.
Survivors include two daughters: Susan L. Ray of Huntington; Mrs. Joseph (Patricia) Bickel of Huntington; a son: Randal J. Ray of Wyoming and two grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Services will be held on Thursday, February 20, 2003 at 11:00 AM at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Pastor Steve Durrwachter officiating.
Interment will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery
in Huntington County.

Richard E. Myers
Richard E. Rick Myers, 53 of Lancaster, Huntington County died at 5:55 PM on Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at Parkview Huntington Hospital. Mr. Myers worked as a sheet metal worker for the Majestic Company in Huntington for 30 years. He was a member of the Amateur Archeological Association of Huntington, he was especially interested in researching and gathering Indian artifacts of tribes indigenous of the local area. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, woodworking and oil painting. He was a 1967 graduate of Huntington Township High School.
He was born on November 8, 1949 in Huntington, a son of Robert Edwin and Ina Call Myers.
He was united in marriage to Darlene Ross Chaney in Mt. Etna on October 15, 1987. His wife survives.
Additional survivors include four sons: Scott R. Myers of Appleton, WI; Matthew R. Myers of Huntington; Dwight Broom of Virginia Beach, VA; Dwayne Chaney of Lancaster, IN; two daughters: Marcy Broom and Angela Broom both of Huntington; a brother: Barney Myers of Bippus, IN; a sister: Mrs. J.B. (Erma Jane) Thornton of LaFountaine, IN and 13 grandchildren.
A brother: Jay Dee Myers preceded him in death in May 2002.
Visitation will be on Saturday, February 15, 2003 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel.
Services will be held on Sunday, February 16, 2003 at 2:00 PM at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Rev. Brent Birdsall officiating.
Interment will be at the Lancaster Cemetery
in Huntington County.
