Richard L. Telfer
Richard L. Telfer, 53, 1251 W. Joe St., Huntington, died at 2 p.m. Sunday (Nov. 25, 2001) at his home.
He worked as a truck driver for the Indiana State Highway Department and had served in the Marine Corps during the Vietname War. He was a member of the Huntington Unit of the Indiana National Guard and Eagles Lodge 823 in Huntington.
Mr. Telfer was born Sept. 12, 1948 in Huntington to George E. and Willaden Myers Telfer. On Nov. 19, 2000 in Huntington he married Lola Rees, who survives.
Also surviving are stepsons Joshua Dyke and Joseph Rees, both of Huntington; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Charles (Danielle) Elston of Huntington; a brother, James Telfer of Huntington: and six grandchildren.
Calling is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hart Funeral Home, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday.
Burial will be at Hopewell Cemetery
in Wabash County.
Faun L. Hite
Faun L. Hite, 96, formerly of Huntington, died at 10:06 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 22, 2001) at the Timbercrest Retirement Community, North Manchester, where she was a resident.
Mrs. Hite was employed as a supervisor with Caswell-Runyan for 27 years. She was a member of the Huntington Church of the Brethren, Order of the Eastern Star Floral Chapter 75, the American Association of Retired Persons, Senior Citizens Inc., and the Grandmothers Club, Nile Club and Dandelions Club, all in Huntington.
She was born Aug. 30, 1905, in Lancaster Township to Elmer and Nancy Stech. She married Chester Hite in Huntington County on Jan. 23, 1926. He died April 26, 1979.
Survivors include a sister, Opal D. Stech, West Lafayette; two grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Harold Hite; a daughter, Marvelene Mulligan, and an infant daughter; three sisters, Avis Brown, Thelma Boxell and Mary Stech; and a brother.
Calling is from 6-8 p.m. Friday and from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service Saturday at the Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel. Pastor Ken Miller-Rieman will officiate the service.
Burial will be at the Lancaster Cemetery.

Rex E. Altman
Rex E. Altman, 74, Marion, died at 5:30 a.m. Friday (Nov. 16, 2001) at his home.
Mr. Altman retired from General Motors, Marion, after 30 years of service. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He had been a resident of Grant County for the past 34 years.
He was born Aug. 7, 1927, in Huntington to Kenneth and Flossie Macon Altman. He married the former Vicki Greengard on May 29, 1958. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Jeffrey L. Altman, Jonesboro, and Jon B. Altman, Herbst; three daughters, Jill A. Altman, Swayzee, Mrs. Mike (Jennifer S.) Duke, Hartford City, and Mrs. Joseph (Julie E.) Sullivan, Herbst; a sister, Jeanette Trainer, Huntington; a brother, Max Altman, Fort Wayne; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jay E. Altman.
Calling is from 5-8 p.m. Sunday at the Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Rybolt Chapel, 314 N. Washington St., Swayzee, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday.
Burial will be at the Thrailkill Cemetery, Swayzee.

Pauline L. McClure
Pauline Lucile McClure, 87, 518 S. LaFontaine St., died at 5 a.m. Monday (Nov. 19, 2001) at her daughter’s home.
Mrs. McClure, a lifelong resident of Huntington, retired from E-Systems Inc. after 27 years of service. She had also worked in the cafeteria at Lincoln Elementary School. She was a past president of the Lincoln School PTA and a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Erie Lackawanna, Grandmother’s Club, Jolly Mothers Club, Senior Citizen Club, and a 50-year member of Miriam Rebekah Lodge 231. She was a member of the Young’s Café and He’s and She’s Bowling teams.
She was born May 8, 1914, in Huntington to William E. and Dollie M. Fulton Kelly. She married Maurice A. McClure on April 22, 1933. Her husband died on Jan. 19, 1970.
Survivors include four daughters, Gloria M. Urschel, Tucson, Ariz., and Carolyn S. Tackett, Mrs. Richard (Joan L.) Tardy and Mrs. Wayne (Shirley A.) Humphrey, all of Huntington; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Eli Kelly; and two sisters, Helen V. Class and Louise V. Clock.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Barry L. Faucett will officiate.
Burial will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Mildred F. Miller
Mildred Faye Miller, 72, 1385 Edna St., died at 12:38 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 18, 2001) at the Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana in Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and a member of the Church of Christ.
She was born June 7, 1929, in Acup, Ky., to Bradley and Ollie Combs. She married Otis Fredd Miller on April 8, 1945. Her husband died Jan. 11, 1976.
Survivors include two sons, Douglas Miller, Andrews, and Otis Fredd Miller Jr., Huntington; a daughter, Mrs. Randell (Carol Ann) Tackett, Huntington; five sisters, Ida Combs, Acup, Ky., Callie Combs, Clay City, Ky., Beulah Hurley, London, Ky., Addie Mullins, Huntington, and Maudell Combs, Brea, Ky.; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Arnold Combs, George Combs and Remus Combs; and two sisters, Wilma Brashear and Norma Jean Wilson.
Calling is 5-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service Wednesday at the Hart Funeral Home. Charles Gamble will officiate the service.
Burial will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery.

John L. Ness
John Leo Ness, a pioneering heart transplant patient at Fort Wayne’s Lutheran Hospital, died Friday (Nov. 16, 2001) at his home on Bartlett Street. He was 67.
Mr. Ness received a transplant on March 25, 1986 at Lutheran. He was the eighth transplant recipient at that hospital.
He was a pressman at Our Sunday Visitor before retiring in 1986. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Izaak Walton League, Historic Forks of the Wabash, American Legion and Pressman Union Local 411-M.
He was an interpreter for the Miami Indians for 15 years, and his Indian name was Two Hearts.
He was an Army veteran, serving in the
Korean War and tours in Panama Canal, Fort Riley, Kan., and Fort Knox, Ky. He served for 23 years in the National Guard.
He was born in Huntington to Leo John and Edith Pfister Ness. His marriage was May 31, 21953, in Huntington, to the former Addie Bell Horsley. She survives.
Other survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Paul (Vickie) Thompson, Mrs. Jim (Debbie) Smith, both of Huntington, and Mrs. Dave (Beckie) Casiano, Weatherford, Texas, and a son: Robert Ness, Fort Wayne; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Margarette Gotchell, Indianapolis, and Evelyn Sunderland, Van Wert, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by a sister: Lucille Fisher, and one grandchild.
Calling is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Hart Funeral Home, with a Rosary service at 8 p.m. Monday. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
James Stoltz Sr.
James Stoltz Sr., 79, Phoenix, Ariz., died Nov. 1, 2001, at Bryant Hospital in Phoenix.
Mr. Stoltz attended Huntington Catholic High School and was a former member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Huntington.
He was born in Huntington, a son of Herman and Mary Schaffer Stoltz. He married Margie Septer, who died Nov. 21, 1999.
Survivors include two sons, Jim Stoltz Jr. and Gene Stoltz, both of Arizona; two sisters, Rosanna Satterthwaite, Amboy, and Bernadine Ault, South Whitley; and a brother, Andrew Stoltz, Marion.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Stoltz; and three sisters, Frances Springer, Merita Homier, and Phyllis Winkler.
A memorial service will be held in the spring.
Violette M. Confer Stump
Violette M. Confer Stump, 90, a resident of the United Methodist Memorial Home , Warren, died at 11:15 a.m. Saturday (November 17, 2001) at Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Stump grew up in the Montpelier area, graduating from Montpelier High School in 1928. She lived most of her life in Hartford City, where she was employed at the A&P and Overhead Door Corp. before retiring in 1970 from Citizens State Bank. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the church’s Homebuilders, was a founding member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Magazine Club, all in Hartford City.
She was born July 14, 1911, in Jay County, to Charles H. and Bertha Lineberry Confer. Her first husband, Lowell R. Smith, died Jan. 31, 1953. Her second husband, Cecil R. Gough, died Oct. 14, 1970.
Survivors include a daughter, Suzanne Conner, Fort Wayne; two grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Floyd Confer, Warren; and two sisters, Velma Blount, Losantville, and Blanche Bennett, Hartford City.
Two brothers, Dale and Ralph Confer, also preceded her in death.
Calling is from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the funeral services, scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City. Rev. Merlyn Cox will conduct the service.
Burial will be at Hartford City Cemetery.
