Nettie Mae Tanner
Nettie Mae Tanner, 86, Indiana Street, died Thursday (June 7, 2001) at the home of her daughter in South Whitley.
Mrs. Tanner worked as a nurse’s aide at the Roanoke Nursing Home for more than 10 years. She attended the Pentecostal Church of God in Columbia City.
She was born may 17, 1915, in Sabinsville, Pa., to Warren Elijah and Anna Mae Benn Rhodes. She married Harry C. Tanner Dec. 31, 1931, in Belmont, N.Y. He died Sept. 3, 1976.
Survivors include three sons, Clifford Tanner of Fort Wayne, Larry Tanner of Gravel Switch, Ky., and Gerald Tanner of Huntington; three daughters, Mrs. Norbert (Betty) Sterling of Huntington, Mrs. Robert (Vivian) Payne of South Whitley, and Opal Snyder of Huntington; four sisters, Mildred Slocum of Elkland, Pa., Virginia Haynes of Eldred, Pa., Bertha Hancock of Genesee, Pa., and Phyllis McCaslin of Mills, Pa.; a brother, Harry Rhodes of Goshen; 29 grandchildren, 88 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, a son, two grandchildren, and a great-grandchildren are deceased.
Calling is from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Tuesday at Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Deaconess Karen Kosberg will officiate.
Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke.

Rolland E. Stroup
Rolland E. Stroup, 79, Winter Garden, Fla., died at 2:20 p.m. Friday (June 8, 2001) at Health Central Medical Center, Orlando, Fla.
Mr. Stroup, a former resident of Anderson and Hartford City, was a retired teacher. He had taught in Delaware County, Anderson, and Fort Wayne. He had also worked as a loan officer for the Department of Agriculture’s Federal Home Administration and had served in the Army during World War II.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks Lodge in Hartford City.
He graduated from Jackson Township High School, Wells County, in 1940 and from Purdue University in 1945.
He was born Feb. 6, 1922, in Upland, to James Henry and Cora Mae Glancy Stroup. He married N. Claudine Gilbert Feb. 3, 1940, in Jackson Township, Wells County. She survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Fritz (Kathleen) Brosien, North Canton, Ohio; a son, Rolland E. Stroup Jr., Ellicott City, Md.; three sisters, Geraldine Miller and Jacqueline Huffman, both of Warren, and Mrs. Jack (Mary) Witham, Roscoe, Ill.; a brother, Jon Stroup, Swayzee; and five grandchildren.
A sister, Kathleen Stroup, is deceased.
Calling is from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown and Son Chapel, Warren, where services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Burial will be at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Montpelier.
Richard L. Hendricks Jr.
A memorial Mass for Richard “Lee” Hendricks Jr. was held Saturday, June 2, at the Little Flower Catholic Church in South Bend.
Mr. Hendricks, 45, of Mishawaka, died May 25, 2001, at the home of his sister, Sara Pearson, South Bend, after a long illness.
Mr. Hendricks was employed as an artist and designer for Michiana Telecasting, WNDU Stations at Notre Dame University. He had formerly worked in Dallas, Texas, as art director for various publishing companies and as an art instructor at the Art Institute of Dallas. He was a member of the Little Flower Catholic Church, South Bend, the WNDU Art Department, and Golden Dome Productions. He was active in cancer education and survival as a member of Soul Survivors and Little Flower Support Groups. He graduated from John Adams High School, South Bend, in 1974 and the University of Notre Dame in 1978.
He was born Oct. 21, 1955, in Huntington to Richard L. and Sally Lowey Hendricks. His parents survive and live in South Bend.
Other survivors include his fiancée, Rebecca LeVeque, South Bend; four sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Sara) Pearson and Natalie Hendricks, both of South Bend, Mrs. Mark (Paula) Lacina, Vashon, Wash., and Mrs. Eric (Charlotte) Swartz, Lake in the Hills, Ill.; and his grandmother, Mildred A. Hendricks, Huntington.
Mr. Hendricks donated his body to the Indiana University Medical School, Department of Anatomical Studies.

Charles L. Glass Jr.
Graveside services for Charles Glass Jr. were held May 30 at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
Charles L. Glass Jr., 83, died May 26, 2001, at his home in Lake City, Fla.
Mr. Glass had been a freight conductor for Conrail for 42 years, retiring in 1979. He was a member of United Transportation Local 724 and the Fort Wayne Kiwanis Club. He was a former resident of Fort Wayne and Columbia City.
He was born April 16, 1918, in Huntington to Charles Glass Sr. and Josephine Adams Glass.
Survivors include three daughters, Pat Scheiman, New Haven, Jackie Colburn, Leesburg, and Cynthia Vassey, Cherry Hill, N.J.; a son, Dennis R. Glass, Columbia City; two sisters, Ruth Vogel, Sun City, Ariz., and Polly Ascro, LaGrange Park, Ill.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, E. Emma Glass, who died in 1978; five brothers and sisters; and a grandson.
Ernest D. Cole
Ernest D. Cole, 68, Spiceland, died at 2:10 a.m. Sunday (June 10, 2001) at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield.
Mr. Cole, a former resident of Wells County, retired from Franklin Electric in Bluffton in 1979. He was a member of the Grover-Sheets American Legion Post 111 in Bluffton and served in the United States Army during the
Korean War.
He was born on Aug. 13, 1932, in Greenfield to Samuel and Margaret Louise Cole. He married Mary Katherine Repgloe on June 12, 1961 in South Bend. His wife preceded him in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Sherry James, Warren, Debra Sue Moore, Daleville, and Margaret Irene Mize, Greenfield; a son, Dale Eugene Cole, Apache Junction, Ariz.; three brothers, Elmer Cole, Spiceland, Joseph Cole, Maxwell, and Thomas Cole, Montpelier; five sisters, Maxine Merchant and Betty Ferguson, both of Florida; Mary Walls, Warren Lakes, Annabelle Randol, Montpelier, and Edna Martin, Indianapolis; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Two brothers, Lloyd Cole and William Cole, and a sister, Katherine Smith, preceded him in death.
Calling is from 1:30-2 p.m. Tuesday at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery
in Montpelier, with services and burial to follow.

R. Marceil Allen
R. Marceil Allen, 80, of Van Buren, died at 6:25 a.m. Wednesday (Dec. 12, 2001) at the Bluffton Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Allen retired from Eastbrook Community Schools in 1988 after serving 14 years as a cook. She had also worked for Moon’s Catering Service of Van Buren. She was a member of the Central Christian Church, Van Buren; the Christian Women’s Fellowship Evening Circle; the Theta Club, of which she was president this year; the Van Buren Lioness Club; the Van Buren American Legion Auxiliary; and the Northside Home Demonstration Club.
She was born July 6, 1921, in Rock Creek Township, Huntington County, to Homer and Nola M. Hoover Harvey. She graduated from Jefferson Township High School in 1939. She married Dorrell Allen in Huntington in 1942. Her husband survives.
Also surviving are four sons, Jerry Allen, Centerville, Jene Allen, Matthews, Jan Allen, Gas City, and Joe Allen, Upland; two daughters, Janet M. Sheetz, Van Buren, and Mrs. Gary (Joyce) Frederick, Marion; two brothers, Marvin Harvey and Max Harvey, both of Van Buren; a sister, Mrs. Charles (Martha) Robinson, Wabash; 18 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, James Allen and Jerald Allen; a sister, Maxine Grover; and a grandson.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Friday at the Ferguson Funeral Home, 201 W. Main, Van Buren.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, with calling one hour prior to services, at Central Christian Church, Van Buren. Rev. Pat Mullin will officiate.
Burial will be at the Van Buren Cemetery.

Deloris L. Britter
Deloris L. Britter, 83, Long Beach, Calif., died at 2:25 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 9, 2001).
She was born on Aug. 7, 1918 to Charles M. and Lona McCombs Craig in Clear Creek Township. She married William Britter in March of 1940. Her husband preceded her in death.
Survivors include four brothers, William E. Craig, Clear Creek Township; Donald R. Craig, Clear Creek Township; Robert Craig, Lancaster Township; and Ray Craig, Kokomo; two daughters, two sons, and eight grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was a sister, Mary Rittenhouse.
Graveside services are at 8:30 a.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Mortuary, Cypress, Calif.
Patti Lou Caskey
Patti Lou Caskey, 57, of Fort Wayne, died Tuesday (Dec. 11, 2001) at her home.
Mrs. Caskey had been a housekeeper with the Life Care Center of Fort Wayne for 13 years.
She was born Nov. 11, 1944, in Huntington County to Harry and Fern L. Oden. Her mother survives and lives in Huntington.
Other survivors include her husband, Denzil Caskey Jr.; a son, Danny Wright, Decatur; a daughter, Tammy Francisco, Fort Wayne; a stepson, Denzil Caskey III, Fort Wayne; a stepdaughter, Libby Ann Hitner, Chicago; a sister, Kathleen Farmer, Huntington; a brother, Randy Oden, Huntington; and nine grandchildren.
A sister, Sidney Landon, preceded her in death.
Calling is 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the D. O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday.
Burial will be at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne.
