Vera Russell
Vera Russell, 91, died at 3:08 a.m. Monday (April 9, 2001) at Miller's Merry Manor, Huntington, where she was a resident.
Mrs. Russell was a veterinarian assistant for Dr. Myers and Dr. Stoddelmyer of Wabash. She was a member of Christ's United Methodist Church, Roanoke. She graduated from Monument City High School and earned a licensed practical nursing degree from Wayne School of Nursing, Fort Wayne, in 1945.
She was born Nov. 25, 1909, in Wabash County to Jesse T. and Ivy Bowman Rinearson. She married Merlin Russell in Huntington on Feb. 23, 1929. Her husband died July 26, 1981.
She is survived by a niece, Mrs. Delmer (Phyllis) Stetzel, Roanoke; and four nephews, Stanley Landrum, Albion, Lawrence Landrum, Chicago, Larry Landrum, Lansing, Mich., and Steve Lakin, Carson City, Nevada.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester Rinearson and Lawrence Rinearson; and two sisters, Edna Wolf and Nellie Landrum.
Calling will be held from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service Wednesday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary. Rev. Martha Lyon will officiate. Burial will be at the Mt. Etna Cemetery, Mt. Etna.

J. Margaret Robrock
J. Margaret Robrock, 93, died at 9:40 a.m. Monday (April 9, 2001) at the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren where she was a resident.
Mrs. Robrock was a homemaker and a member of the Union Church, where she was also a member of the Women's Missionary Society.
She was born Dec. 1, 1907, in Huntington to Clyde and Elsie Kline Smith. She was a graduate of Union High School. Her first marriage was to Paul A. Beaver on April 20, 1930, in Huntington. He died May 12, 1964. Her second marriage was to Kenneth Robrock on June 1, 1977. He died April 16, 1991.
Survivors include a son, Ronald D. Beaver, Roanoke; two daughters, Mrs. Myron (Janet) Husband, Huntington, and Mrs. James (Lois) Campbell, North Webster; two stepsons, Lynn Robrock and Greg Robrock, both of Huntington; a stepdaughter, Mary Lou Wolf, Huntington; a sister, Jane Waikel, Fort Wayne; a brother, Gerald Smith, Warren; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; and 18 stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Hurbert Smith and James Smith; and a granddaughter.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Paul DeMerchant and Rev. Howard Cherry will officiate. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery, Huntington County.

Ardeth M. Reichley
Ardeth M. Reichley, 100, a resident of the Timbercrest Retirement Community in North Manchester, died at 7:35 p.m. Monday (April 9, 2001) at Wabash County Hospital.
Mrs. Reichley was a homemaker and had worked for Wayne Knitting Mills, Fort Wayne. She was a member of the Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren.
She was born Dec. 25, 1900, in Huntington County, a daughter of James H. Lassiter and Phoebe Slagal. She married Owen Ray Reichley April 25, 1945; he died May 16, 1994.
Surviving are a sister, Ruth Lahr, North Manchester; four stepgrandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; and three stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a stepson, Roscoe C. Reichley; a brother, Herman Lassiter; and a sister, Hazel Crull.
Calling is 1-2 p.m. Wednesday at the Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East St., North Manchester. Services will be held at the chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with Rev. Kelly Beutler and Rev. David Doudt officiating. Burial will be at Lancaster Cemetery, Huntington County.

Helen C. Fitzwater
Helen Catherine Fitzwater, 86, Kendallville, died Monday (April 9, 2001) at Community Hospital in Kendallville.
Mrs. Fitzwater, a homemaker, had previously lived in Huntington and in Fort Wayne.
She was born July 19, 1914, in Huntington, a son of Raymond G. Hendry and Carrie M. Swihart Hendry. She married Ralph Fitzwater, who died in 1984.
Calling is 10-11 a.m. Thursday at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Funeral Home, Wayne Street Chapel, 420 W., Wayne St., Fort Wayne. Services will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Huntington.

June B. Fisher
June B. Fisher, 84, a resident of Markle Health Care, died at the home at 10:15 a.m. Monday (April 9, 2001).
Mrs. Fisher attended Clear Creek Township School, Huntington County, and retired in 1982 from Wabash Magnetics in Huntington. She was a member of the Hillcrest Church of the Nazarene, Warren.
She was born May 11, 1916, in Montpelier, a daughter of Calvin G. Brown and Freda L. Leu Brown. She married Raymond W. Fisher Oct. 2, 1936, in Huntington; he died April 26, 1955.
Surviving are a daughter, Kay Sue Seibert, Warren; a brother, Jack Brown, Osage Beach, Mo.; two sisters, Betty L. Roberson, Logan, Utah, and Geraldine A. Thompson, Huntington; six grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three sisters, Cleo L. Cline, Doris I. Martin, and Charleen Smith.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Wednesday at Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown and Son Chapel, 203 N. Matilda St., Warren. Services will be held at the funeral home at 10 a.m. Thursday, with Pastor Todd Thomas officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Madonna R. Smith
Madonna R. Smith, 67, Columbia City, died at 5:30 p.m. Sunday (April 8, 2001) at the University of Iowa Hospital, Iowa City, where she was taken after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage on Saturday.
Mrs. Smith had been employed by Pyle Industries, Huntington, for a number of years. She later worked at the Alcoils Company, Columbia City. Her latest employment was Penguin Point Restaurant, Columbia City, where she worked for 12 years. She was a member of the Salvation Army, Huntington, and the Columbia City Order of the Eastern Star.
She was born July 16, 1933, in Huntington to Benjamin and LaVerna Humerickhouse Cunningham. She graduated from Huntington High School. She married Richard J. “Smitty” Smith on Sept. 20, 1959, in San Diego, Calif., where her husband was stationed in the U.S. Navy. They made their first home in Huntington and had resided in Columbia City since 1963.
Also surviving are a daughter, Tammy J. Smith, Fort Wayne; a son, Thomas J. Smith, Columbia City; three sisters, Geraldine Sands and Esther Karst, both of Huntington, and Ruth Buckman, Iowa City, Iowa; and two granddaughters.
A brother, Robert Cunningham, preceded her in death.
Calling is 6-8 p.m. Wednesday and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Smith and Sons Funeral Home, 207 N. Main St., Columbia City, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Captain Timothy Wilson of the Huntington Salvation Army will officiate. Burial will be at the Mt. Hope Cemetery, Huntington.

W. Gwendolene ‘Krickett’ Metzger
W. Gwendolene “Krickett” Metzger, 79, Lagro, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday (April 10, 2001) at Miller’s Merry Manor East, Wabash.
Mrs. Metzger, who had lived in Wabash County most of her life, had worked as a kitchen designer for the Wabash County Farm Bureau Co-Op and as an office assistant for Dr. Lee W. Yoder and for Honeywell Inc. in Wabash. She was a member of the Wabash Friends Church, the Society of Friends Women, and the Cozy Homemakers Home Economics Club.
She was born Nov. 18, 1921, in Jackson Township of Howard County to Kenneth Powell and Pauline Fansler. She married Francis L. Metzger Dec. 27, 1941, in Westfield; her husband survives.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Thomas L. (Nancy G.) Frank, Wabash; a son, Ken L. Metzger, Huntington; a sister, Mrs. William (Juanita) Morton, Greentown; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Two brothers are deceased.
Calling is 2-8 p.m. Thursday at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service Main Street Chapel, 86 E. Main St., Wabash, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday. David Phillips will officiate. Burial will be at the Converse Cemetery
in Converse.

Carl E. Hoffman
Private graveside services for Carl Hoffman were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Galveston Memorial Park, Hitchcock, Texas. Burial followed at the Garden of Memories, Hitchcock, Texas.
Carl E. Hoffman, 78, Kingsland, Texas, died Saturday (April 7, 2001) in Austin, Texas.
Mr. Hoffman was a marine engineer with the Army Corps of Engineers and a member of the American Legion, Kingsland, Texas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, Navy and Coast Guard, having served during World War II and the
Korean War. He had lived in Kingsland for 29 years and was formerly of LaMarque, Texas.
He was born Jan. 11, 1923, in Huntington. He married Margareta Kauefl in Angleton, Texas, on Sept. 26, 1969. His wife survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Martin (Patricia) Cowart, Kingsland, Texas; a brother, Dale Hoffman, Huntington; a sister, Phyllis Adams, Huntington; and four grandchildren.
Irene M. Sands
Irene M. Sands, 90, 325 S. Broadway, died at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday (April 11, 2001) at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Sands farmed with her husband and was a homemaker. She was a member of the East State Street Church of God.
She was born Jan. 21, 1911, in Huntington County to John and Catherine Swearer Forst. She married Kline Henry Sands on June 6, 1931. Her husband died June 13, 1997.
Survivors include two sisters, Tura Poehler, Columbia City, and Esther Wygant, Huntington, and a brother, Porter Forst, Peru.
She was preceded in death by a son, Richard A. Sands; three sisters, Ethel Sparks, Della Reiken and Jeneva Forst; and three brothers, Noah Forst, Carl Forst and Ira Forst.
Calling is 5-7 p.m. Friday and from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. funeral service Saturday at the Hart Funeral Home. Rev. Steve Stull will officiate. Burial will be at the Union Cemetery.
