Robin L. Reiff

Robin L. Reiff, 44, Fort Wayne, died Monday evening at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Reiff was an assistant principal at Huntington North High School. She was a member of Phi Delta Kappa, the Indiana State Teachers Association, and the Indiana Principals Leadership Academy.

She was a graduate of Whitko High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University, Fort Wayne, and her master’s degree in education administration from Indiana University, Bloomington.

She was born May 4, 1956, in Warsaw, to Tom and Georgianna Heal Porter. Her parents survive in Larwill. She married Douglas L. Reiff Nov. 24, 1973; her husband survives.

Additional survivors include two daughters, Nicole L. Reiff-Busenbark, Fort Wayne, and Carri L. Reiff, Warsaw; two brothers, Danny Porter, South Whitley, and Tom G. Porter, Larwill; her grandmother, Jenny Porter, Ridinger Lake; and a granddaughter.

A son, Douglas L. Reiff II, is deceased.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday. Rev. Barry Faucett will officiate.

Burial will be at a later date.

Josephine W. Elsten

Josephine W. Elsten, 78, 1156 N. Lindley St., died at 8:10 a.m. Monday (Feb. 26, 2001) at her home.

Mrs. Elsten, a lifelong resident of Huntington, had been employed by Memcor-Truohm for three years. She had previously worked at Wabash Magnetics for 27 years. She was a member of the New Hope Church of the United Brethren in Christ.

She was born Nov. 22, 1922, in Swan, Noble County, to Joseph W. Brockup and Emma M. Balliet Brockup. She married Clyde M. Elsten June 21, 1939, in Huntington. Her husband survives.

Additional survivors include a son, Doyle A. Elsten, Huntington; a sister, Doris Bristol, Spring Lake, Mich.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Peggy Joann Elsten; two brothers, Eldrige Brockup and William Brockup; two sisters, Mary Kinder and Georgia Anna Spath; and a granddaughter.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday. Rev. Raymond Waldfogel, Rev. Russell Birdsall, and Rev. Kent Maxwell will officiate. Burial will be at the Gardens of Memory Cemetery.

James R. Leedy

James Robert Leedy, 76, 1641 Byron St., died at 12:40 a.m. Monday (Feb. 26, 2001) at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Mrs. Leedy was an aircraft scheduler with the Indiana Air National Guard. He served in the armed forces during World War II, the Berlin crisis and the Korean War. He was a member of Secular Franciscans, the Knights of Columbus, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was born March 12, 1924, in Huntington, to John Henry and Elizabeth Eberhart Leedy. His marriage was June 18, 1949, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, to the former Mae Stephan. She survives.

Also surviving are four sons, Timothy Leedy and Thomas Leedy, both of Huntington, Anthony Leedy, Andrews, and Nickolas Leedy, Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Mrs. Gary (Michele) Barton, Fort Wayne, and Mrs. David (Tina) Miller, Spencerville; 11 grandchildren, one stepgrandchild, and one great-grandchild; and one sister, Betty Rowe, Huntington.

A brother, John H. Leedy Jr., preceded him in death.

Calling is from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Hart Funeral Home, where a Rosary service will be held at 6 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, with Father Ron Rieder officiating. Burial will be at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are Masses at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

William C. Richard

Funeral services for William C. Richard, 72, of Lowell, Mich., were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Gerst Funeral Homes, Roth-Gerst Chapel, in Lowell, Mich., with Rev. Burland Margesson officiating. Burial was at the Oakwood Cemetery, Lowell.

Mr. Richard was born April 30, 1928, in Huntington to Cleopas and Myrtle Richard. He graduated from Clear Creek High School in Huntington County and moved to Michigan in 1953.

Mr. Richard is survived by a sister, Mrs. William (Mary) Bieghler, Huntington.

Helen E. Smith

Helen E. Smith, 90, formerly of Huntington, died Saturday (Feb. 24, 2001) at Sterling House, Muncie.

Mrs. Smith was a graduate of Huntington Catholic High School and from beauty college, and had been a beautician in Bluffton. She had also worked for Hunckler Products, Huntington, and was a homemaker. She was a former member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and Huntington County Right to Life.

She was born July 18, 1910, in Huntington, to Joseph and Mary Holzinger Hergenroether. Her marriage was Feb. 24, 1940 to Willard A. Smith. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Gordon (Marilyn) Doyle, Muncie; two sons, Donald Smith, Wausau, Wis., and Michael Smith, Olympia, Wash., six grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren and one great-grandchild; a sister, Lucile Christine “Tina” Kohrman, Fort Wayne; and a brother, William Hergenroether, Sugar Grove, Ill.

Seven brothers and seven sisters are deceased.

Calling is from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Hart Funeral Home,where a Rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, with Father Ron Rieder officiating.

Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Preferred memorials are to SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 840 Cherry St., or Huntington County Right to Life, 34 E. Washington St.

Rev. Tillman Nussbaum

Rev. Tillman “Tim” Nussbaum, 88, a resident of the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren, died at 3:40 a.m. Monday (Feb. 26, 2001) at the home.

Rev. Nussbaum, a former employee of the United Methodist Memorial Home, had made his home there since 1979.

He farmed in Adams County and worked in construction until be began studying for the ministry. He attended Grace Bible Institute, Grace University, Omaha, Neb., from 1948 to 1952 and Dallas Seminary in Dallas, Tex., from 1952 to 1954. He studied Bible and music at Bethel College, North Newton, Kan., graduating in 1955.

After being ordained in the gospel ministry, Rev. Nussbaum served as a pastor in the Mennonite Church in Oklahoma. He then served in the Methodist denomination in Missouri, Illinois and Indiana. He and his wife operated a telephone devotional service for several years and, for 13 years, produced a radio program that was broadcast on stations in Portland, Bluffton, and Berne. He was a member of the Northeast Indiana Conference of the United Methodist Church.

He was born March 6, 1912, in Berne, to Adam Nussbaum and Anna Liechty Nussbaum. His first marriage was to Elizabeth Neuenschewander, who is deceased. He married Janet Soldner Feb. 14, 1976, in Berne; she survives.

Additional survivors include a brother, Rev. Sylvan Nussbaum, Berne.

Calling is from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Memorial Home, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday. Rev. Herbert Edwards will officiate. Burial will be at the Spring Hill Cemetery, Warren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Methodist Memorial Home, 801 Huntington Ave., Warren IN 46792.

The Glancy Funeral Homes, Butler Chapel, Warren, is in charge of arrangements.

Ernestine C. Richards

Ernestine Cozad Richards, 88, Ocala, Fla., died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001, at Sylvia’s Hospice House, Ocala.

Mrs. Richards was a 1930 graduate of Huntington Township High School. She was a beautician for 40 years at Ernie’s Beauty Shop in Chicago, where she was also an avid card-player at the On Top of the World Clubhouse.

She was born Dec. 25, 1912, in Savannah, Ga., to Fred Cozad Sr. and Florrie Turner Cozad. Her marriage was Oct. 30, 1937, in Chicago, to Dale N. Richards. He died on Aug. 25, 2000.

She is survived by a son, James D. Richards, Melrose Park, Ill.; a daughter, Mrs. Edmond (Carol Ann) LaChance, Massey, Ont.; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fred Cozad Jr., Huntington, and Kenneth Cozad, Columbia City; and a sister, Mabel Wilhelm, Huntington.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Cozad, and two sisters, Pearl Cozad and Elsie Zumbrun.

Calling is from noon until the 1 p.m. funeral service Thursday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary. Rev. Stephan Stull will conduct the service.

Burial will be at a later date in Massey, Ont.

Isabel C. Rosen

Isabel C. Rosen, 84, Urbana, died at 11:40 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 24, 2001) at the Wabash Skilled Care Center in Wabash.

Mrs. Rosen was a 1934 graduate of Andrews High School. She was a homemaker and had served as organist for St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, rural Andrews, for many years. She was a member of the church.

She was born July 27, 1916, in Huntington County, a daughter of Alvin Schenkel and Clara Yentes Schenkel. She married Sherman E. Rosen Sept. 21, 1935; her husband survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, James Rosen and Lowell Rosen, both of Urbana; a daughter, Mrs. DeWayne (Bette) Fitch, North Manchester; three brothers, Kenneth Schenkel and Richard Schenkel, both of Andrews, and Marion Schenkel, Huntington; nine grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and 17 stepgreat-grandchildren.

Calling is 2-8 p.m. Tuesday at the DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel, 1401 Ind.-114W, North Manchester. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, rural Andrews. Rev. Kent Wheeler will officiate. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery, Servia.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 3995N-1000W, Andrews IN 46702.
