Max A. Kline
Max Augustus Kline, 81, died at 6:10 p.m.Wednesday (July 19, 2000) at Miller’s Merry Manor.
Mr. Kline was a graduate of Huntington High School and a 1940 graduate of Purdue University. He was a captain in the Army Air Force during World War II and was retired from the service.
He was born Nov. 6, 1918, in Huntington to Arthur H. and Lovie May Payne Kline.
Survivors include a brother, Harold W. Kline, Huntington, and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel A. Binder.
There are no calling hours. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Shock Cemetery
with Chaplain Martin Hess officiating.

Inez M. Minton
Inez M. Minton, 90, a resident of the Timbercrest Retirement Center in North Manchester, died at 12:20 p.m. Wednesday (July 19, 2000) at the home.
Mrs. Minton retired from Lancaster Township School, where she had worked as a cook for more than 25 years. She was a 1924 graduate of Lancaster Township High School and earned a degree in education from Manchester College in 1928.
She was a member of the Salamonie Church of the Brethren, where she served as Sunday school superintendent and director of Bible school, taught Sunday school, and was a member of the Ladies’ Aid Society. She was also a member of the Farm Bureau.
She was born Aug. 12, 1909, in Lancaster Township, to Henry and Josie Cloud Heaston. She married Clark Minton June 13, 1935; her husband died Dec. 29, 1982.
Survivors include two sons, Gene D. Minton, North Webster, and Jerry D. Minton, Warsaw; a brother, Paul J. Heaston, Warren; a sister, Ruby Stouder, North Manchester; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, Carl Heaston and Garl Heaston, are deceased.
Calling is 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Bailey-Love Mortuary, with services at the mortuary at 2 p.m. Saturday. Rev. John Mishler and Rev. Conrad Snavely will officiate. Burial will be at Lancaster Cemetery.

Lawrence E. Godfroy
Lawrence E. “Chief” Godfroy, 68, 440 W. Park Dr., died at 1:31 p.m. Wednesday (July 19, 2000) at Huntington Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Godfroy was a 1949 graduate of Huntington Catholic High School. He was a member of the Ramblers’ ‘49 basketball team and scored the final points in the championship game as HCHS defeated Huntington High School for the sectional title. He was a retired employee of Memcor, where he worked in the shipping and receiving department. He was a veteran of the
Korean War. He was a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Mr. Godfroy was born Nov. 17, 1931, in Huntington, to James M. and Esther Webster Godfroy.
Survivors include two sons, Anthony Godfroy, Huntington, and Timothy Godfroy, Huntington; a daughter, Nancy Vogleman, Huntington; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, Paul Godfroy, Huntington; and a sister, Doris Myers, Decatur.
Three brothers, Ralph “Bud” Godfroy, Glenn Godfroy, and Richard Godfroy, and two sisters, Eloise Simrak and Rosella Swaidner, preceded him in death.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, with Father Ron Rieder officiating. Burial will be at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Calling will be from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hart Funeral Home. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday.
Preferred memorials are to SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the church’s food pantry, or to the Huntington County Council on Aging.
Verna E. Sunderman
Verna E. Sunderman, 91, a resident of the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren, died at 9:17 p.m. Wednesday (July 19, 2000) at the home.
Mrs. Sunderman was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and the church’s Circle 7. She was a member of Huntington T.O.P.S. and was a 1928 Huntington High School graduate.
She was born Oct. 8, 1908, in Huntington, the daughter of Charles and Edith Dillman Casper. She married William F. Sunderman Oct. 17, 1947; her husband died in March 1988.
Survivors include a son, William H. Sunderman of Huntington; a daughter, Kay Homier of Huntington; a brother, Harold Casper of Huntington; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Eugene Casper; a sister, Mary Sours; and a great-granddaughter.
Calling is 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday. Rev. Donald Fischer will officiate. Burial will be at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery.

Thelma M. Minton
Thelma Madeline Minton, 89, 335 W. Park Dr., died at 12:45 a.m. Sunday (July 16, 2000) at her home.
Mrs. Minton was a homemaker. She was a 1929 graduate of Jefferson Township High School and a lifelong resident of Huntington County.
She was born Nov. 11, 1910, in Huntington County, a daughter of George Smyser and Minnie Mae Keith Smyser. She married George C. Minton April 26, 1930, in Huntington County; her husband died Nov. 6, 1989.
Survivors include two daughters, Joan Schick, Weatherford, Texas, and Rowena Riggle, Elkhart; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Bill Smyser, Bud Smyser and Dick Smyser, and two sisters, Lucille Bowman and Clara Nealis.
There are no calling hours or services.

Dorothy Frances Chaffee
Graveside services were held Monday in National City, Calif., for Dorothy Frances Chaffee, Imperial Beach, Calif., who died Wednesday (July 12, 2000) in San Diego. She was 79.
Mrs. Chaffee was a native of Kansas and a graduate of Leavenworth High School in Leavenworth, Kan. She had lived in the San Diego area since 1963 and had worked for the past 15 years as a secretary for the South Bay Union School District.
Survivors include two sons, Bob Chaffee, Chula Vista, Calif., and Chris Chaffee, Huntington; a daughter, Cissy Metje, Imperial Beach, Calif.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Her husband, Duwane “Speck” Chaffee, died in 1983.
Burial was at La Vista Memorial Park in National City, Calif. The Humphrey Mortuary, Chula Vista, Calif., was in charge of arrangements.
Preferred memorials are to the Humane Society.
Willie Lee Rosen
Willie Lee Rosen, 75, Huntington, died at 9:18 a.m. Monday (July 17, 2000) at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Mrs. Rosen had worked as a machine operator at Redkap in Russellville, Ky., for 32 years, and had also been employed at the Wendy’s restaurant in Huntington for nine years. She was a member of the Huntington Baptist Church.
She was born Jan. 29, 1925, in Cumberland Furnace, Tenn., to John and Ida Ferrell Bentley. She married Gerald Rosen Dec. 31, 1988, in Huntington; her husband survives.
Additional survivors include a son, John A. Blackford, Auburn, Ky.; three daughters, Nyoka Lashley and Bessie Dowell, both of Auburn, Ky., and Bobbie Monroe, Russellville, Ky.; a stepdaughter, Patricia Hutton, Wabash; a stepson, Larry Rosen, Huntington; three adopted daughters, Bridget Forth, Huntington, Debbie Clayborn, Hartford City, and RoseMarie Beck, Andrews; five sisters, Ella Mae Robinson, Opal Easton, Edna Rector, and Gatheryn Thomas, all of Auburn, Ky., and Annie Chadwick of Mason City, Ill.; and 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 11 stepgrandchildren, and 19 stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Oleda Blackford; two brothers, Herman Bentley and Arthur Bentley; three sisters, Aleze Richardson, Mary Phillips and Pauline Hines; and a grandson.
Calling is 3-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Myers Funeral Home, Huntington Chapel, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the Young Funeral Home, Auburn, Ky. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Young Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Auburn Cemetery, Auburn, Ky.

Mary Elizabeth Bischoff
Mary Elizabeth Bischoff, 95, a former resident of Warren, died Saturday evening in Arcadia, Fla.
Arrangements are pending at the Glancy Funeral Homes, H. Brown and Son Chapel, Warren.
Mellie G. Farrell
Mellie G. Farrell, 100, a resident of the United Methodist Memorial Home in Warren, died at 6:55 p.m. Saturday (July 15, 2000).
Mrs. Farrell was a 1918 graduate of Markle High School. She was a homemaker and a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church.
She was born July 12, 1900, in Huntington County, a daughter of Levi and Ida Mae Miller Hoopingarner. She married Everett Farrell May 8, 1920, in Markle; her husband died Jan. 297, 1983.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Richard (Ireta) Rahn, Huntington, and Bonnie Peters, Fort Wayne; four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Farrell; a brother, Zeno Hoopingarner; a sister, Ann Secrist; and a grandson.
Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday. Rev. Marti Lundy will officiate. Burial will be at the Hoverstock Cemetery, Zanesville.
