Gene McConnell
Louise McConnell
Gene F. McConnell, 80, of Tyler, Texas, formerly of Evansville, died Monday, Nov. 26, 2001, of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. His wife, Louise B. McConnell, 78, also was killed in the accident.
Gene McConnell earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Rose Polytechnic Institute (now Rose-Hulman) in Terre Haute, Ind., and a master's degree from the University of Evansville.
He retired as director of product engineering for Whirlpool Corp. after 33 years.
He served as president of the Organization for the Blind and taught Sunday school in Indiana. He was a lifelong Christian and went on several mission trips.
Surviving are a daughter, Carolyn M. Barton of Arlington, Va.; two sons, James M. of Mendham, N.J., and William A. of Cleveland Heights, Ohio; a sister, Virginia "Ginny" M. Willis; seven grandchildren; and a niece and nephew.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gerry R. McConnell, in 1998; and a son, Robert F. McConnell, in 1974.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in McCutchanville United Methodist Church Cemetery, the Rev. Robert Vester officiating.
Friends may call from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Alexander Funeral Home North Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church Memorial Fund in Richmond, Va.
Services for Louise B. McConnell were held in Richmond, Va.
Surviving are a daughter, Dr. Elizabeth L. Berke-Williams; two sons, David T. and Earl M. Williams Jr.; a sister, Alma Rae Hardee; five brothers, Tyson, David, Raymond, Andrew and Shelton Benson; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Earl M. Williams.
Lessye Gullatte
Lessye Howard Reynolds Gullatte, 78, of Evansville, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001, at Angel River Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center of apparent heart failure.
She was a graduate of Tuskegee Institute in Alabama, where she received a bachelor's degree in home economics and obtained a master's degree in elementary education, with a concentration in special-education. She taught school in Alabama, Morganfield, Ky., and Evansville for 32 years.
She was a member of Cleaves Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and was a member and past president of the Missionary Society. She worked with young women through the Auxiliary Mary Ida and Mattie E. Coleman Circles and was an original participant in the Kentucky Annual Conference Missionary March.
She served as a Sunday school teacher and president of the Local and District Board of Christian Education. She was also a social worker for the Vanderburgh County Welfare Department and was a member of the Indiana Business and Professional Women's Association.
Surviving are a daughter, Patti Gullatte-Glass of Evansville; a son-in-law and caretaker, LeRoy Glass of Evansville; a caretaker, Phillip Buckner; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Gullatte; and a son, Doth Reynolds.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cleaves CME Church, the Rev. James Buckner officiating, with burial in Tuskeegee, Ala.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Mason Brothers Memorial Chapel is handling arrangements.

Carl Bluebaum Jr.
VINCENNES - Carl D. Bluebaum Jr., 69, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Good Samaritan Hospital of apparent heart failure.
He had owned Carl Bluebaum Sales and was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Deborah K. Carie and Ruth Ann Webber, both of Vincennes; a son, Carl Michael of Vincennes; his mother, Violet Ann Bluebaum of Vincennes; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Cora Mae Bluebaum, in 1997.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. EST Tuesday at Goodwin Funeral Home, with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Lalah Morris
OAKLAND CITY - Lalah I. (Maxey) Dishon Morris, 81, of Evansville, formerly of Oakland City, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville.
She worked as a beautician in Oakland City for over 30 years.
She was a member of United Pentecostal Church for 15 years and Great Grace Apostolic Tabernacle in Oakland City.
Surviving are her husband of 28 years, Don Morris; two nieces and a nephew.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Warren Dishon, in 1943.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. EST Tuesday in Montgomery Cemetery.
There will be no visitation at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel.
Lorene Smith
PETERSBURG - Lorene Smith, 95, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Petersburg Health Care.
She was a member of the Winslow Chapter of Eastern Star.
Surviving are a daughter, Beverly Ann Eskew McGrath of Petersburg; and a grandson, Brad Eskew.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Smith.
Services will be at 2 p.m EST Tuesday at Lamb-Basham Memorial Chapel in Oakland City, with burial in Walnut Hills Cemetery in Petersburg.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
Maurice Cullen Jr.
TELL CITY - Maurice G. "Butch" Cullen Jr., 62, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville of complications of diabetes..
He retired as a master chief from the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam. He was a member of the Masons, Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion. He was an avid sailor.
Surviving are a son, Captain Maurice G. Cullen III of England; two sisters, Janice Needham of Lomita, Calif., and Pat Doan of Tell City; two brothers, Michael of Tell City and James of Evansville; three grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
There will be no service or visitation at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home, with burial at a later date.

Karen Button
DERBY - Karen D. Button, 57, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at Perry County Memorial Hospital in Tell City. The cause of death is pending autopsy results.
She enjoyed crafts and computer games.
Surviving are three daughters, Judy Hammond of Baton Rouge, La., Rhonda Ramirez of Bay City, Mich., and Michelle Knapp of Shephard, Mich.; two sons, Russell Roberts of Bay City, Mich., and Douglas Lyons of Derby; two stepdaughters, Carolyn Wilmot of Tell City and Debbie Button of Goshen; three stepsons, Herman Button Jr. of Cannelton, Earl M. Button of Shephard, Mich., and Arnold Button of Mount Pleasant, Mich.; two sisters, Shirley Roberts of New Mexico and Beverly Ebnit of Texas; three brothers, Rex Ebnit of Sanford, Mich., Delance "Butch" Alward of Alma, Mich., and Terry Ebnit of Riverdale, Mich.; her companion, James Harris of Derby; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. EST Tuesday at Huber Funeral Home Tell City Chapel, with burial in Lilly Dale Cemetery.

Pius Evrard
TELL CITY - Pius R. Evrard, 74, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville of respiratory failure.
He was a 1945 graduate of Tell City High School.
He retired from General Electric after 40 years and was a Merchant Marine veteran.
He was a member of Knights of Columbus Bishop Chartrand Council 1172, American Legion Post 213 and St. Paul Catholic Church. He was an avid gardener.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Corine (Thompson) Evrard; a daughter, Joan Evrard of Nashville, Tenn.; two sons, Wayne of Cleveland, Miss., and Warren of Newburgh; two grandchildren, Joey and Sara Evrard; and three stepgrandchildren, Clifton, Brian and Stephanie Coleman.
Services will be at 2 p.m. EST Monday at St. Paul Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon to 8 p.m. today and from noon to 1:30 p.m. Monday at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home, with a parish prayer and Knights of Columbus service at 6:30 p.m. today.
