Mary Nissley

LAGRANGE - Mary Nissley, 90, died at 9:35 p.m. Thursday, May 24, 2001, at the home of her daughter, Fanny Mae Bontrager.

She was a homemaker who moved to LaGrange County from Kansas in 1941. She was a member of the Old Order Amish Church.

She was born June 21, 1910, in Custer County, Okla., to John and Jannie (Yoder) Yutzy. On Jan. 19, 1933, in Weatherford, Okla., she married Andy D. Nissley, who preceded her in death Dec. 16, 1933.

Also preceding her in death were a son, Jon Nissley, in January, 2001; a sister, Anna Mast; three brothers, William, Jonas and John Yutzy; a grandson; and a granddaughter.

Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Fanny Mae and Allen Bontrager of LaGrange, Katie Viola and Lloyd Hochstedler of Middlebury, Mary Margaret and Amms Hochstetler of Milford and Ruby Ellen and Albert Hochstedler of Kokomo; two sons, Leroy Nissley of Wolcottville and William Nissley of Americus, Ga.; a sister, Elizabeth Mast of Harper, Kan.; 31 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services are 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Allen Bontrager residence, 3065N C.R. 250W, LaGrange, with Bishop Perry Whetstone and Minister Freeman L. Yoder officiating. Burial will be at Mast Cemetery, county roads 150N and 250W, LaGrange.

Calling is Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday at the Allen Bontrager residence.

Arrangements are by Frurip-May Funeral Home, LaGrange.

Paul Winebrenner

ALBION - Paul M. Winebrenner, 80, died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2001.

The former Albion resident lived in Bonita Springs, Fla. He was a machinist at several Fort Wayne companies.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Winebrenner; two sons, Dale and Gail Winebrenner, both of Albion; three daughters, Lois Mullianax of Robinsville, N.C., Paulette McDonald of Millersburg and Connie Winebrenner of LaGrange; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

There are no services or calling.

Arrangements are by Walter Shikany's Bonita Funeral Home, Bonita Springs.

George Reagin

LAOTTO - George J. Reagin, 58, died at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, 1999, in Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.

He was born May 11, 1941, in Stoughton, Wis., to George and Maxine I. (Walker) Reagin. On March 15, 1985, he married Sharon Bowers, and she survives.

He was a state installer for General Telephone Co., retiring in October of 1999 after 33 years of service. Also, he was a Vietname War veteran who retired from the U.S. Navy in 1984 as an E-7 with more than 20 years of service.

He was a past commander of American Legion Post 240 of Avilla, and a member of the National Rifle Association and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Fort Wayne.

He moved to LaOtto from Fort Wayne 17 years ago.

Also surviving are three daughters, Stacey Gunsch of Portland, Ore., Lesa Hirschy of New Haven and Misty Bartholomew of Fort Wayne; one son, George Patrick Reagin of New Haven; eight grandchildren; three sisters, Frances Brazzell of West Terre Haute, Jodell Brown of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Connie Rector of Riley; and one brother, Gene Reagin of South Carolina.

A brother, James Reagin, preceded him in death.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in Brazzell Funeral Home, Avilla, with Elder Dave Rector officiating. American Legion Post 240 will hold a service at the funeral home immediately following funeral services. Burial will be at sea at a later date.

Calling is from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.

Memorials are to the donors' choice.

Estella Roberts

FORT WAYNE - Estella M. Roberts, 73, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, at home.

Mrs. Roberts was born Aug. 18, 1926, in Danville, Ill., to David Asa and Margaret E. (Collings) Ramsey. On June 20, 1944, in Orange, Texas, she married Hiram Roberts, who preceded her in death in 1972.

She retired in 1986 after five years as a clerk at Keltsch Pharmacies and also worked at the Belmont Dime Store.

Surviving are two sons, Tobin Roberts of Fort Wayne and Randall L. Roberts of Greenwood; a daughter, Sandra S. Wood of Garrett; five sisters, Barbara Miller, Beverly Diver and Margaret Juanita Leitch, all of Fort Wayne, Isabelle Cady of Auburn and Ruth Uhrick of Wolf Lake; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A son, David R. Roberts, died in 1998.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at D.O. McComb & Sons Lakeside Park Funeral Home, 1140 Lake Ave., with calling there from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today.

Burial will be in Lindenwood Cemetery.

Memorials to Northside Neighborhood Association.

Charlotte Hostetler

WAKARUSA - Charlotte J. Hostetler, 75, of Wakarusa, died at 6:14 a.m. Friday, June 9, 2000, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend, following injuries suffered in an auto accident.

Mrs. Hostetler belonged to the Oak Grove Missionary Church, Wakarusa. She collected dolls and loved shopping at garage sales.

She was born May 15, 1925, in Mishawaka to Russell and Adalaide Ritter.

In June of 1944, she married Howard E. Hostetler. He died in 1976.

Surviving are her daughters, Dawn Long and Sharon Mettert, both of Auburn, Adalaide Doty of Wakarusa, Bonnie Hostetler of California, Gloria Wilson of Elkhart; her sisters, Pauline Peffley and Elsie Black, both of Avon, Fla.; a brother, Dean Bordner of South Bend; and 10 grandchildren, including Andrea and Laura, both of Auburn, Alisha of Auburn and Michael of Kendallville.

A son, Russell; two sisters and one brother preceded her in death.

Services for Mrs. Hostetler will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 N. Main St., Mishawaka, with Rev. Scott Nichols officiating. Burial will follow at 4 p.m. in Sauktown Cemetery, New Carlisle.

Calling is from 1:30 to 2 p.m. Monday in Bubb Funeral Chapel North.

Memorials are to the Salvation Army, South Bend.

Librado Cruz

LAGRANGE - Librado Cruz, 29, of LaGrange, died at 5:29 p.m. Monday, Aug. 14, 2000, in Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

He was born March 10, 1971, in Zinapecuaro Michoucan, Mexico, to Ismael and Maria Guadalupe (Carmona) Cruz. They survive in Zinapecuaro Michoucan. On March 19, 1997, in LaGrange, he married Estella Quiroz. She also survives.

Mr. Cruz came to LaGrange from Mexico in 1992. He was a laborer at Moneys Foods Inc. in Howe.

Also surviving are a son, Fabian Cruz of LaGrange; seven brothers, Jose Cruz, Ismael Cruz, Horacio Cruz and Alejandro Cruz, all of Sturgis, Mich., and Alberto Cruz, Sergio Cruz and Armando Cruz, all of Zinapecuaro Michoucan; and three sisters, Teresa Cruz of Zinapecuaro Michoucan and Guadalupe Cruz and Melanea Cruz, both of Sturgis.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday in St. Joseph Catholic Church, LaGrange, with the Rev. Paul Faroh officiating. Burial will be in San Miquel Taimeo Cemetery in Zinapecuaro Michoacan.

Calling is from 3-7 p.m. Thursday in Frurip-May Funeral Home, LaGrange.

Helen Conklin

KENDALLVILLE - Helen R. Conklin, 99, of Kendallville, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, in Las Vegas, Nev., just 12 days shy of her 100th birthday.

She was born in Kendallville Aug. 28, 1900, to William and Jennie (Weatherwax) Rinebolt. She married Louis Conklin on Oct. 13, 1927, in Glen Ridge, N.J. He preceded her in death in 1941.

Mrs. Conklin was well known in the area for having worked on Main Street in Kendallville in several shoe stores for more than 50 years. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the Gamma Xi Chaper of Tri Kappa Sorority which was organized in 1925.

In July her grandchildren gave her an early "100th birthday" party at the Best Western Motel attended by many family members and friends.

Surviving are a son, Philip L. Conklin of Carmel; a daughter, Connie Bishop of Kendallville; three grandsons, Mark Rensberger of Kendallville, Kerry Conklin of Indianapolis and Bradley Conklin of Carmel; three granddaughters, Lori Way of Kendallville, Colette Myers of Durham, N.C., and Brenda Bechtel of Richmond; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services are pending at Hite Funeral Home in Kendallville.

Roger Covell

ONAWAY, Mich. - Roger Ralph Covell, 65, of Onaway, Mich., a former Kendallville resident, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, in Northern Michigan Hospital, Petoskey, Mich.

On June 7, 1936, in Cheboygan, Mich., he was born to Ralph and Delema (Preedhomme) Covell. He married Jordan Dixon on June 27, 1997, in Cheboygan.

He lived in Kendallville from 1974 to 1997 before returning to the Onaway area.

Mr. Covell was a foreman at No Sag in Kendallville and retired in 1997. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge and Moose Lodge, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are: a daughter, Mrs. Joe (Renee) Richardson, Angola; a son, Rick Covell, Kendallville; two step-sons, Jeff and Todd Brasseur, Tower, Mich.; and a step-daughter, Kristi Redick, Tower, Mich.

His first wife preceded him in death in 1978, and his parents also preceded him in death.

Services will be at 11 a.m. (EDT) Tuesday, June 19, 2001, at the Chagnon Funeral Home Chapel, 20742 State, Onaway, Mich. with Elder Jim Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Tower, Mich.

Calling is from 5 to 9 p.m. (EDT) Monday, June 18, 2001, at the funeral home.

Memorials are to the Roger Covell family.
