Wayne Hedglin

LAGRANGE - Wayne Hedglin, 90, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at LaGrange Community Hospital.

He was a retired farmer who also worked as a truck driver and a laborer. He moved from Angola to LaGrange in 1957.

He was born Feb. 20, 1911, in Orland, to Arthur and Lucille (Stayner) Hedglin. On Dec. 1, 1939, in Angola, he married Rhoda Lash, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 15, 1956. He married Polly Miller on Nov. 23, 1957, in LaGrange, and she died Nov. 5, 1999. Two stepsons, Joseph and Noah "Pete" Miller, are also deceased.

Surviving are a daughter, Janet "Jan" Pedrett of LaGrange; a son, Wayne "Butch" Hedglin of Twin Falls, Idaho; three stepdaughters and their husbands, Esther and Richard Kuhn and Ida and Wayne Walter, all of LaGrange, and Mary and Paul Miller of Missouri City, Texas; three stepsons and their wives, Harvey and Janet Miller of LaGrange, Roy and Loretta Miller of Chicago and Enos and Norma Miller of Mongo; 52 grandchildren; 88 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are a sister, Lorraine Stutzman of Nappannee; and four brothers, Win Hedglin of Munising, Mich., Frank Hedglin of St. Augustine, Fla., Raymond Hedglin of Little Deer Isle, Maine, and Max Hedglin of Jefferson City, Mo.

Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in LaGrange, with the Rev. Dexter Garman officiating. Calling will be Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Frurip-May Funeral Home in LaGrange. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, LaGrange.

Memorials are to the church.

Robert Reeder

AUBURN - Robert Earl Reeder, 71, died Friday, Dec. 14, 2001, at his home on County Road 40, Auburn.

Mr. Reeder worked for Beatrice Foods and the former County Line Cheese Co. in Auburn, retiring in 1992 with 25 years of service. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was born Dec. 30, 1929, in Auburn to Charles and Cora (Boren) Reeder.

Surviving him are one brother, Rollie Reeder of Kendallville; and three sisters, Mabel Bry and Reah Stebing, both of Auburn, and Audrey Albright of Kendallville.

One brother, Charles Reeder, preceded him in death.

Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. in Feller Funeral Home, 875 S. Wayne St., Waterloo, with calling after noon. The Rev. Douglas Barber will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery, Auburn.

Memorials are to the Lions Eye Bank.

Sedge Hicks Sr.

GARRETT, Ky. - Sedge Hicks Sr., 75, died Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001, after an extended illness.

Mr. Hicks had retired as transportation worker for the Indiana Department of Highways at Waterloo. He also previously worked for Bohn Aluminum.

He was a member of Salt Lick Community Church and resided in Garrett, Ky. He had lived in Hamilton for over 35 years.

He was born Sept. 9, 1926, in Hippo, Ky., to Joseph and Maudie (Bailey) Hicks.

He married Sarah Whitaker on March 28, 1945, in Prestonburg, Ky. She survives.

Also surviving are three daughters and sons-in-law, Billie and Danny O'Quinn, and Maudie and Bob Sexton, all of Garrett, Ky., and Betty and David Blomeke of Waterloo; one son and daughter-in-law, Sedge Hicks Jr. and Pam Hicks of Butler; two brothers, Monroe Hicks of Plymouth, Ohio, and Cecil Hicks of Lima, Ohio; two sisters, Cynthia Gillette of Fort Myers, Fla., and Janette Bailey of Lima, Ohio; and 10 grandchildren, Tim and Nick Blomeke, Robby, Michael and Morgan Sexton, Jason, Brian and Adam Hicks, and Kevin and Kyle O'Quinn.

He was preceded in death by two infant sons; one brother, Alka Hicks; and a grandson, Steve Blomeke.

Services were held Dec. 14 in Hall Funeral Home in Martin, Ky. Jeff Prater and Chester Varney officiated. Burial was in Hicks Cemetery in Hippo.

Julia Heredia

FORT WAYNE - Julia Heredia, 72, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2001, at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.

She was employed at Mossberg Industries for 19 years and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. She was born in Garland, Texas.

Surviving her are four sons, Andrew Heredia of Auburn, Guadalupe and Benjamin Heredia, both of Fort Wayne, and Daniel A. Heredia of Cedar Park, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul Catholic Church, 416 W. Washington Blvd., Fort Wayne. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery in Fort Wayne.

Calling is tonight from 7-9, with a rosary service, and Thursday from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. in Mungovan & Sons Memorial Chapel, 2114 S. Calhoun St.

A prayer service will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials are to the American Diabetes. Association.

Elmer 'Sonny' Minard

AUBURN - Elmer G. "Sonny" Minard, 86, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at 8:15 a.m. in Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana in Fort Wayne.

Mr. Minard worked for the U.S. Postal Service in Auburn for 42 years, retiring as postmaster in 1978.

He lived in Auburn and was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He was an entertainer for Audiences Unlimited in Fort Wayne and a musician for many years. He was a former square dance caller and a member of the Sunny Jones Ballroom Dance Band and the First Tuesday Night Organ Club.

He was born April 19, 1915, in Auburn to Frank and Celia (Haynes) Minard.

He married Harriet Fullmar in 1934 and she died in 1953.

He married Marilyn Krauss on Sept. 12, 1964, in Auburn and she survives.

Also surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Jeffery A. and Amy Minard of Fort Wayne; one daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Argyl Bassett of Auburn; one sister, Dolores Hurni of Auburn; seven grandchildren, Kathy Staehler, Katie, Chloe and Ian Minard, and Mike, Greg and Tim Bassett; and seven great-grandsons.

Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church, Auburn, with the Rev. Wilbur Yates and the Rev. William Kaster officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Auburn.

Calling is Sunday from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. in Feller Funeral Home, Waterloo.

Memorials are to Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana, Youth For Christ or the First United Methodist Church.

Lucie Wilcoxson

AVILLA - Lucie Mae Wilcoxson, 58, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, at 1 a.m. in her home on DeKalb County Road 48, Avilla.

Mrs. Wilcoxsonwas a factory worker and member of the Garrett United Methodist Church. She lived in Avilla for 32 years.

She was born June 14, 1943, in Angola to Clay L. and Mary Margaret (Huff) Lemmon. They preceded her in death.

She married Ralph D. Wilcoxson on March 8, 1963, in Hamilton and he survives.

Also surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Rita and Rod Frantz of Peru; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Scott and Tara Wilcoxson of Huntington, and Rex Wilcoxson of Avilla; one brother, James Lemmon of Fort Wayne; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sharon and Ted Perna of Garland, Texas, and Linda and William Lindeman of Fort Wayne; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Louie Lemmon; a half-sister, LuAnn Reede; and her stepfather, Ammon D. Troyer.

Services will be held Monday at 10 a.m. in Garrett United Methodist Church, with calling after 9 a.m. Dr. Scott Moss will officiate. Burial will be in Christian Union Cemetery of rural Garrett.

Additional calling is Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in Thomas Funeral Home, Garrett.

Memorials are to DeKalb County Hospice or the Garrett United Methodist Church.

Frederick Sammetinger

FORT WAYNE - Frederick C. "Fritz" Sammetinger, 79, died Saturday, March 3, 2001, at The Arbors.

The Wapakoneta, Ohio, native was a salesman at Monroe Office Equipment for 25 years before retiring in 1983. He was previously a manager of data processing at Tokheim Corp. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corps who received the Purple Heart.

Surviving are his wife, Audrey J. Sammetinger; three daughters, Laura Leichty of Auburn, and Rebecca L. Million and Evelyn Vielkind, both of Fort Wayne; a son, Stephen J. Sammetinger of Kendallville; four sisters, Gertrude Hartman, Helen Bauer and Flora Schafenacker, all of Fort Wayne, and Esther Anderson of Pueblo, Colo.; a brother, the Rev. Carl Sammetinger of Etowah, N.C.; and five grandchildren.

Services are 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity English Lutheran Church, 401 W. Wayne St. Burial will be at Lindenwood Cemetery.

Calling is 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Klaehn, Fahl & Melton Wayne Street Chapel, 420 W. Wayne St.

Memorials are to the Second Air Division Memorial Library, Norfolk, England.
