79; World War II veteran
Funeral services for Jack E. Sutton, 79, of New Albany, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at Market Street Chapel of Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Funeral Homes, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. He died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 2004, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services.
He was a Navy veteran of World War II and retired from Ford Motor Company, Louisville. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1693 and American Legion Bonnie Sloan Post 28.
Survivors include his wife, JoAnn Sutton; a son, David S. Sutton, New Albany; a daughter, Carol S. Daily, New Albany; three sisters, Mary Thomas, Borden, JoAnn Hawkins, New Albany and Barbara Treece, Elizabeth; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 1.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions Hospice & Palliative Care of Southern Indiana.
RoElla J. Dean
73; New Washington
Funeral services for RoElla J. Dean, 73, of Charlestown, will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Grayson Funeral Home, Charlestown, with burial in Barnes Cemetery. She died Thursday, Oct. 14, 2004, at Wedgewood Healthcare Center, Clarksville.
She was a native of New Washington and a former bookkeeper for Dean's Auto Sales, Charlestown. She was a member of the Charlestown Congregation of the Jehovah's Witnesses.
Survivors include her husband, Ralph Dean; a son, Gary L. Dean, Charlestown; a daughter, Rhonda J. Root, Charlestown; mother, Ruth Hebner, Jeffersonville; two sisters, Imogene Franklin, Jeffersonville and Sharon Smith, Nashville, Tenn.; three grandchildren, Jeremy Boldery and Cody R. and Chad W. Dean, all of Charlestown and great-granddaughter, MacKenzie Boldery, Charlestown.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from noon to 9 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 15 and after 9 a.m. Saturday.
Vincent Haycox
89; retired laborer
Funeral services for Vincent Haycox, 89, of Henryville, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Grayson Funeral Home, New Washington, with burial in Crown Hill Cemetery, New Washington. He died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Lincoln Hills Nursing Home, New Albany.
He was a native of Bethlehem and a retired laborer.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Haycox, Scottsburg; three daughters, Janet Haycox, Jeffersonville, Judy Mitsch, Valley Station, Ky. and Wilma Montgomery, Charlestown; two half brothers, Ronnie Haycox, Bethlehem and Wilbur Haycox, Seymour; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today, Friday, Oct. 15 and after 9 a.m. Saturday.
Bernice R. Batliner Hill
77; formerly of Floyds Knobs
A memorial Mass for Bernice R. (Batliner) Hill, 77, of Daytona Beach, Fla., formerly of Floyds Knobs, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. She died Friday, Oct. 1, 2004, at her home in Daytona Beach, Fla.
She enjoyed reading and traveling. During her working career as a legal secretary, she was employed by the Judge Advocate Corps of the U.S. Army in Okinawa and closed her working career as secretary to the Assistant City Attorney in Aurora, Colo. She was a member of St. Brendans Catholic Church in Ormand Beach, Fla. and former member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church in Floyds Knobs.
Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Murray F. Hill; four sisters, Gladys Cooper and Mary Hunter, both of New Albany, Earlene Montgomery, Louisville and Judy Jacobi, Floyds Knobs; and two brothers, Joseph Batliner, Floyds Knobs and James Batliner, Clarksville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Bernard M. Batliner Sr. and Irene M. (Kruer) Batliner; and a brother, Bernard M. Batliner Jr.
Generations Funeral Home, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, is handling arrangements.
Ralph Earl Cook
90; of Jeffersonville
A memorial service for Ralph Earl Cook, 90, of Jeffersonville, will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, at Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall, Jeffersonville. He died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Hillcrest Nursing Home, Jeffersonville.
He was a native of Bayminette, Ala., a retired inspector for Vermont American and a member of Jehovah's Witness Kingdom Hall, Jeffersonville.
Survivors include a niece, Donna Hewitt, Jeffersonville and a great-niece, Anna Cunningham, Pekin.
The body was cremated.

Harry C. Copple
78; veteran
Funeral services for Harry C. Copple, 78, of Henryville, will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at Grayson Funeral Home, New Washington, with burial in Barnes Cemetery, Nabb. He died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at University Hospital, Louisville.
He was a native of Clark County, an Army Air Force veteran and a retired farmer. He was also a former driver for Dohrn Transfer and was a member of Scottsburg World Outreach For Christ Church.
Survivors include his wife, the former Janet Lilly; four sons, James D. Copple, Austin, Randall Copple, Scottsburg, Mark Copple, Maine and Robert Copple, Carrollton, Ky.; three daughters, Nancy Irene Bryant and Phyllis Ann Cheatham, Scottsburg and Vickie Sue Copple, Jeffersonville; two brothers, Everett Copple, Ill. and Ralph Copple, Nabb; three sisters, Mary Snelling, Jeffersonville, Doris Murphy, Lexington and Sue Hartman, Otisco; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 14 and after 8 a.m. Friday.
Shirley M. McDaniel
70; of Jeffersonville
Funeral services for Shirley M. McDaniel, 70, of Jeffersonville, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at Scott Funeral Home's North Chapel, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. She died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2004, at Clark Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of Fairdale Church of God.
Survivors include a daughter, Debra A. Martin and her husband, Mike, Jeffersonville; son-in-law, Jim Boyd, Bowie, Maryland; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Price, Jeffersonville; two adopted daughters and three adopted grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul R. McDaniel and a daughter, Linda S. Boyd.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from noon to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15.

Nora Florence Troutman, 84, of Charlestown, died Wednesday, Oct. 13 2004, at her home.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Oct. 18, 1 p.m. at Grayson Funeral Home, Charlestown.

68; of New Albany
A Mass of Christian Burial for Father Simeon Yates, OFM Conv. will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at the Friars Chapel of Mount Saint Francis, with burial in the Frairs Cemetery
immediately following. He died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2004, at the Providence Retirement Home in New Albany.
He was born to William Bradley Yates and Mary Gertrude Cambron Yates on Oct. 4, 1936 in Louisville, Ky. He was ordained to the priesthood at St. Paul's Cathedral, St. Paul, Minn. on Feb. 2, 1963. Father Yates served many locations throughout the midwest from 1963 through 1998. In 1998 he joined the Retreat Team at Mount Saint Francis, Ind. serving there until his final illness.
Survivors include his brothers, Joseph Yates, Elizabethtown, Ky. and Paul Yates, Louisville; a sister, Anna Marie Yates, Elizabethtown, Ky.; and a nephew, Todd Yates, Louisville.
Visitation at the Frairs Chapel, Mount Saint Francis, Ind. will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15.

Funeral services for Michael Allen Simpson, 61, of Clarksville, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, at Scott Funeral Home North Chapel, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. He died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004, at Clark Memorial Hospital.
