Willard Bennett
Willard D. "Bill" Bennett, 74, of Cape Coral, Fla., formerly of Evansville, died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2001, at The Hope Hospice House in Cape Coral, Fla., of cancer.
He was the refrigeration group controller for Whirlpool Corp. in Evansville and he was a Navy veteran.
He was a graduate of Miami University in Ohio.
He was past commodore of 3C's Boating Club, member of the Elks, American Institute of Public Accountants, Palmetto Pines Country Club and the Faith Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Lorraine; two daughters, Lori Hughes and Karen Carter; a son, Jack; a sister, Barbara LeChaix; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
The American Family Funeral Home in Fort Myers, Fla., handled the arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice House or the Faith Presbyterian Church, both in Cape Coral.
Louis Covalt
Louis Edward Covalt, 73, of Albuquerque, N.M., formerly of Evansville, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, in Albuquerque of sepsis.
He was in the construction industry and a consultant for more than 50 years.
He was a 1946 graduate of Central High School and a member of Ballut Abayd Shrine Temple and band, Rotary International and band and a George Harris Fellow.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and its choir.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy O.; four daughters, Jane Cooley, Mary Matteucci, Rebecca Kasner and Kathleen Lites; three sons, Martin Covalt and Kit and David Carson; and nine grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church in Albuquerque, N.M., with a reception in the Fellowship Hall. French Mortuary in Albuquerque handled the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ballut Abayd Shrine Children's Transportation Fund in Albuquerque.
Infant Emily Roper
Emily Kristine Roper, 7-day-old daughter of Chris Roper and Krista Groeninger, both of Evansville, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at The Women's Hospital of complications of a premature birth.
Also surviving are grandparents, Brenda Hart, Beverly Gish, Steven and Karen Groeninger and Joseph and Debbie Roper.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery's Garden of Angels. There will be no visitation at Browning Funeral Home.
Julius Ritter Jr.
Julius "Bud" Ritter Jr., 74, of Madison, Ind., formerly of Evansville, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, in Madison of complications of Alzheimer's disease.
He was a well-known Indiana high school teacher and basketball coach with a 495-win record at Peru and Madison. He was a member and served as president of the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.
He owned Ritter's Lanes in Madison and several fast-food franchises in Indiana.
He was a graduate of Purdue University, where he played basketball and was a graduate of Bosse High School and played on the 1944 and 1945 State Championship teams. He participated in the 1970 Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame Silver Anniversary Team.
He was a member of and raised money for numerous civic organizations.
He was a licensed pilot and owned his own plane.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Irene (Traylor); two daughters, Julia Barber of Madison and Mary Margaret "Mimi" of Indianapolis; three sons, Dwight of San Diego, Steve of Miami, Fla., and Julius "Chip" of Naperville, Ill; a brother, Jim "Tiger" of Evansville; and eight grandchildren. A daughter, Elizabeth Ritter, died in 1986.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Madison, Ind., the Rev. John A. Meyer officiating, with burial in burial in Springdale Cemetery
there. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Morgan, Webster, Nay Funeral Home in Madison.
Memorial contributions may be made to Julius "Bud" Ritter Memorial Fund in care of Community Foundation of Madison-Jefferson County or Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
Infant Alyssa Duncan
Alyssa NaCole Duncan, daughter of Amanda N. Brown and David W. Duncan, both of Evansville, was stillborn Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center.
Also surviving are grandparents, Rick and Eva Duncan, Tony and Debra Seale, William and Debra Brown and Lorene Travelstead; and great-grandparents.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Alexander Memorial Park Chapel, the Rev. Charles Green officiating, burial is pending.
Friends may call from 1 p.m. to service time at the chapel. Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel is handling arrangements.
Lucille Ungethum
Lucille F. (Harris) Ungethum, 83, of Evansville, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001, at the home of a daughter, Carrie Maurer, in Evansville.
Also surviving are a daughter, Susan Young of Richland City, Ind.; six grandchildren, Katherine and Henry Maurer, Emily and Allen Young and Duane and Tyler Ungethum; and her caregiver, Dorothy Sanders. Her husband, Edward, died in 1987, a daughter, Roberta, died in 1964, and a son, Thomas, died this year.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, the Rev. Glyn Pfohl officiating, with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
William Herman
William "Bill" Herman, 80, of Newburgh, died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at Healthsouth Tri-State Rehabilitation Hospital.
He retired in 1976 after 35 years with Chrysler Corp. in St. Louis.
He was a Ham radio operator.
Surviving are a sister, Ellen Froman of Evansville; and a niece. His wife, Margaret, preceded him in death.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Alexander Funeral Home West Chapel, Wayne Wheeler officiating, with burial in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to service time.
Helen Bartlett
Helen Irene Bar-tlett, 94, of Evansville, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001, at the Evansville Protestant Home. She earned a teaching degree from Evansville College.
Her husband, Harry Earl, died in 1992.
Surviving are two daughters, Marilyn Griffith of Indianapolis and June Schwengel of Evansville; five grandchildren, Brenda and David Griffith, Janet Cates and Steven and Brian Schwengel; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Methodist Temple Chapel, the Revs. Robert Coleman and Charles Gipson officiating, with burial in Park Lawn Cemetery.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at Alexander Funeral Home East Chapel.
Memorial contributions may be made to Methodist Temple or the Indiana University Alz-heimer's research project.
Mary Lou Blaine
Mary Lou Blaine, 75, of Evansville, formerly of Providence, Ky., died Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center. The cause of death has yet to be determined.
Surviving are a daughter, Paulette Goodwin of Evansville; two sisters, Jessie Ruth McConnel and Dortha Lane, both of Hopkinsville; a grandchild; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Melton Funeral Home in Providence, Ky., with burial in Big Hill Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to service time at the funeral home.
John Meszaros
HUNTINGBURG - John Meszaros, 76, died Monday, Dec. 3, 2001, in Pike County while splitting wood on a farm near Winslow of an apparent heart attack.
He had been a carpenter and furniture refinisher.
He was a World War II Navy veteran and member of St. Mary Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Marianne (Dianish); two daughters, Margaret Young of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Mary Ann Nelson of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a son, John of Chino Valley, Ariz.; two brothers, Joseph of Manchester, Ohio, and Steven of North Carolina; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. EST today at St. Mary Catholic Church, with burial pending in Arizona. There will be no visitation at Nass & Son Funeral Home.
