Charles E. Skaggs
age 83; Army veteran
Funeral services for Charles E. "Chuck" Skaggs, 84, of Scottsburg, will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Garr Funeral Home, Sellersburg. He died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, at the home of Kathy Satchwill, Lexington.
He was a native of Mt. Sherman, Ky. and a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Hilda Owen Skaggs; two sons, Charles E. Skaggs, Milltown and Eugene E. Skaggs, Jeffersonville; two daughters, Paula Skaggs Bryant, Rock Falls, Ill. and Linda D. Skaggs, Brandenburg, Ky.; three stepsons, Frank R. and Danny H. Owen, Jeffersonville and David H. Owen, Scottsburg; four step-daughters, Frances Owen Goforth, Jeffersonville, Norma Owen Cash, Charlestown, Kathy Owen Satchwill, Lexington and Nona Schindler-Payne, Underwood; 33 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
Visitation at the funeral home will be after 3 p.m. Thursday, with cremation to follow the funeral service.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Alzheimers Disease Association in care of Garr Funeral Home, 7806 Highway 311, Sellersburg, 47172.
Gertrude I. Barksdale
age 77; of Floyds Knobs
Funeral services for Gertrude I. Barksdale, 77, of Floyds Knobs, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at St. Mary of the Knobs Church, with burial in the church cemetery. She died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services.
She was the former Gertrude I. Smith, a Floyds Knobs native and a former employee of both the old Indiana Army Ammunition Plant in Charlestown and Huber's Winery in Starlight. She was a devoted homemaker and known in the area for both her cake baking and seamstress abilities. She was a member of the Hill and Dale Homemakers Club, a longtime volunteer for the Community Soup Kitchen in Jeffersonville and a member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Louis Barksdale; son, Michael (Linda) Barksdale, Lanesville; daughters, Theresa (Daniel) Applegate, New Albany, Elaine (Mark) Jacobi, Floyds Knobs and Gloria (Danny) Jones, Lanesville; brother, Bill Smith, Floyds Knobs; sisters, Eleanor Hammersmith, Clarksville, Beatrice Keach, New Albany and Dorothy Spaulding, Clarksville; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Doll.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 2, at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring St., New Albany. A prayer service will be held at 4 p.m. today, Sept. 2, at the funeral home.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Hospice and Palliative Care of Southern Indiana or St. Mary of the Knobs Church Building Fund.
Bernard Litch
age 68; of New Albany
Funeral services for Bernard Litch, 68, of New Albany, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Rd., New Albany, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. He died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services.
He was a native of New Albany, an Army Veteran, retired from Padgett, Inc. and a lifetime member of the Floyd County Coon Hunters Club.
Survivors include his wife, Rose Litch; step-son, Ronnie Beeman, New Albany and Paul Terry Jr, Greenwood; step-daughter, Mary Whitler, New Albany; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 2, at the funeral home.
Deloris E. McCloskey
age 83; of Corydon
Funeral services for Deloris E. McCloskey, 83, of Corydon, were held at noon today, Sept. 2, at Bethel United Methodist Church, with burial in the church cemetery. She died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2003, at Harrison Health and Rehab Center in Corydon.
There will be no visitation.
Walter M. Jackson
age 89; self-employed businessman
Funeral services for Walter M. Jackson, 89, of Jeffersonville, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Coots Funeral Home, with burial in Walnut Ridge Cemetery. He died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at Clark Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Bedford, Ky. and a self-employed business owner of Jackson Oil Company and of Walts Carpet Company in Jeffersonville.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Jackson; three sons, Walter "Sonny" Jackson, Jeffersonville, Ronnie Jackson, Charlestown and Jimmy Jackson, Clarksville; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2 and after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Joyce M. Kerstiens
age 88; avid gardner
Funeral services for Joyce M. Kerstiens, 88, New Albany, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at Kraft Funeral Home, 708 East Spring St., New Albany, with burial in St. Mary's Cemetery. She died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003.
She was a native of Bradford, the former Joyce M. Taylor, and a member of the V.F.W. Post 3281 Ladies Auxiliary. She was an avid Gardner and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Janet Thomas and her husband, Denis, of Elizabeth; three sons, Robert Kerstiens and his wife, Jeanne of Radiant, Va., and Donald Kerstiens and his wife, Betty and Joseph Kerstiens of New Albany; 10 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Kerstiens and a daughter, Carol Ann Lilly.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2.

Hanno Meyer
age 70; native of Germany
Funeral services for Hanno Meyer, 70, of New Albany, will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, with burial in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park. He died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003, at Green Valley Care Center, New Albany.
He was a native of Altenburg, Germany, and a retired security guard for Hall Security Service, Louisville.
Survivors include two daughters, Kim Meyer and Terry Johnson and a sister, Jutta Meyer.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today, Monday, Sept. 1.

Robert J. Derr
age 84; of Lanesville
Funeral services for Robert J. Derr, 84, were held Saturday, Aug. 30, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lanesville. He died Aug. 23, 2003 at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
Survivors include three daughters, Susan Derr Tidrick of Stamfor, Conn., Patrice Ciccone of Oriental, N.C. and Monica Derr Tupper of Francestown, N.H.; and a son, James Derr of Corydon.
Arrangements were handled by Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.
Clarence A. Crecelius
age 84; of Corydon
Funeral services for Clarence A. Crecelius, 84, will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 2, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home, Corydon, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery, Corydon. He died Saturday, Aug. 30, 2003, at Harrison County Hospital.
Survivors include his wife, the former Evelyn C. Hannel and a sister, Golda DeGuise of Huntington Beach, Calif.
Visitation at the funeral home will be from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. today, Monday, Sept. 1 and after 8 a.m. Tuesday.
The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the Harrison County Hospital Foundation.
Aubrey "Louis" Woosley Jr.
age 60; retired production worker
Funeral services for Aubrey "Louis" Woosley Jr., 60, were held at 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 1 at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home, Corydon, with burial in the Old Goshen Cemetery, Laconia. He died Friday, Aug. 29, 2003 at Audubon Hospital in Louisville.
He was a native of Caneyville, Ky. and a retired production worker at Tube Turns in Louisville.
Survivors include his wife, the former Betty Curl of Laconia; a son, Randy Brightman, Corydon; a daughter, Angela Hancock, Corydon; his mother, Eva Woosley, Louisville; two brothers, Mike Woosley and Mark Woosley, both of Louisville; a sister, Sue Parker, Greenville and four grandchildren, Jennifer and Nolan Brightman and Nathaniel and Kaylynne Hancock, Corydon.
Visitation was held Sunday at the funeral home and after 9 a.m. this morning.
