Marcilla Elsner

Departed on Jun. 9, 2006 and resided in Evansville, IN.

Visitation: Monday Jun. 12, 2006
Funeral Service: Tuesday Jun. 13, 2006
cemetery: St. Joseph cemetery

Marcella “Sally” Elsner, 76, of Evansville, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2006 at her home. She was born August 7, 1930 to Henry and Anna (Deig) Lutterbach in Posey County, IN. She and her seven siblings were raised on Oakley Street and attended St. Anthony School and Church. Sally graduated from Reitz Memorial High School in 1948 and from St. Mary’s School of Nursing in 1951. In 1952 she married Linus “Bud” Elsner. Bud and Sally were charter members of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church and were active parishioners throughout their lives. Sally began her nursing career at the old St. Mary’s Hospital, but as her family grew she became a full time mom and homemaker. Over the years many friends, family, and church members benefited from her care, concern, and assistance with their health care needs. Sally traveled to many countries and continents and loved learning about other places, peoples, and cultures and enjoyed meeting new people in everything she did. She never met a stranger and always went out of her way to make newcomers feel welcome. She went to work at Tri State Bearing Co. and continued working there, doing bookkeeping for a number of years. She and Bud were avid dancers and they discovered international folk dancing in the 70s. Multicultural dancing blended well with her love of travel. Sally had a thirst for knowledge and enjoyed educating herself on whatever her interests were, be it health care, geology, cultures, houseplants, gardening or geography. She was active in her alumni groups from Memorial and St. Mary’s. She had a quiet, unassuming manner and she maintained a quiet sense of grace and humor through her declining health. Sally was blessed with a full life and a dedicated husband and children who could only hope to repay the love and support they had received from her. We will miss her dearly. The family would like to thank the staffs of Dr. John Polin, St. Mary’s at Home, and VNA Hospice. Sally is survived her husband of 54 years, Linus “Bud” Elsner, daughters Susan Schaefer and her husband Mark, all of Evansville, IN, Anne Byrne and her husband Lou of Newburgh, IN, and Barbara Gillespie and her husband Scott of Evansville, IN, sons James and his wife Kristie, Gregory, Tom and his wife Jackie, Joseph and his wife Amy all of Evansville, IN, William and his wife Roxanne of Littleton, CO, and John and his wife Inna of Plymouth, MN, and 25 grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister Rosemary Muensterman (Cletus) and brother Eugene Lutterbach and his wife Anita. Sally was preceded in death by brothers James, Clement, Kenneth, Reverend Albertus and Leonard Lutterbach. Service time is 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Visitation is from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 12th at Ziemer Funeral Home North Chapel, 6300 N. First Avenue, Evansville, IN, and from 9:30 until service time on Tuesday at Holy Redeemer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VNA Hospice or to Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
