Evelyn Franchville

TELL CITY, Ind. -- Evelyn Franchville, 71, of Tell City died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at her daughter's home in Shelbyville, Ind., from cancer. The Ranger, Ind., native had been a clerk for 25 years at the former Tresslar's 5 & 10, and at Bi-Low Store and Shoe-Show, all in Tell City. She retired as deli manager at Noble's IGA and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church and VFW Auxiliary Post 2939. Her husband, Jesse Franchville, died in 1995.
Survivors include a son, Daniel Lee Franchville of Tell City; a daughter, Betty Jean Boyce of Shelbyville, Ind., three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Curtis Jarboe of Derby, Ind.
Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul Catholic Church in Tell City. Burial will be in St. Mary cemetery in Tell City. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at Huber Funeral Home, Tell City chapel. Prayers will be said at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorial services will be conducted by VFW Post 2939 Auxiliary after prayers are said. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hospice of Shelby County or a favorite charity.
Darius Rudisill

ROCKPORT, Ind. -- Darius Rudisill, 85, of Rockport died Sunday, May 27, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Rockport, Ind., native was a retired farmer and an Army veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart. He was a life member of Disabled American Veterans and a member of Richland General Baptist Church. His son, Darius Eugene Rudisill, died in 1948.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ruth Rudisill; a son, John Rudisill of Rockport, Ind.; a daughter, Wanda Moody of Palmyra, Mo.; four grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Boultinghouse Funeral Home in Rockport, Ind. Burial will be in Shiloh cemetery in Rockport. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today and after 8 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Richland General Baptist Church.

DALE, Ind. -- Stacy Lynn Payne, 15, of Dale died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, at University of Louisville Hospital. She was a member of Heritage Hills class of 2004, an honor roll student and ranked in the top 10 percent of her class. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, student council and the school band. She had been a cheerleader and worked at Jenk's Pizza in Dale.
Survivors include her parents, Roger and Julie Payne of Dale; her grandparents, Fred and Joann Anders of Chrisney, Ind., and Margaret C. Payne of Rockport, Ind.; a brother, Brian Payne, at home; and a sister, Melissa Payne, at home.
Services are at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Dale. Memorial services are at 7 p.m. Sunday at Fuller Funeral Home and Crematory, Dale chapel. Visitation is after 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Heritage Hills Scholarship Foundation.

CHRISNEY, Ind. -- Forrest R. Boyd, 71, of Chrisney died Monday, July 30, 2001, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville. The Evansville native was a retail store owner and member of St. Martin's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Pat Montgomery Boyd; 10 sons, Stephen, Paul, Mark, David, Kenny, Lenny, Roland, Larry, Andy and Patrick; five daughters, Sue, Nora, Shirley, Mary and Paula; 29 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four brothers, Edward, Jack, Francis and John.
Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Martin's Catholic Church in Chrisney. Burial will be in St. Martin's Church cemetery in Chrisney. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Youngblood Funeral Home in Chrisney. Memorial services are at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
James J. 'Jamie' Groves

ROME, Ind. -- James J. "Jamie" Groves, 96, of Rome died Monday, July 30, 2001, at his home. The Rome native was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran of the African and Italian theaters. He was a commanding officer and received the Legion of Merit for outstanding service. He was a farmer and a member of Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939 and National Rifle Association. His wife, Dove Pletcher Groves, died in 1985.
Survivors include a son, John Groves of Rome; a daughter, Ellen Bell of Leopold, Ind.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Dorothy Rickert of Elizabethtown and Barbara Spannuth of Bloomington, Ind.
Services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Huber Funeral Home, Cannelton chapel. Burial will be in Wegenast cemetery in Rome. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Rome cemetery Association or Visiting Nurse Association.

LAFAYETTE, Ind. -- Ray C. Huff, 76, of Lafayette, formerly of Owensboro, died Tuesday, July 31, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Lafayette. The Rantoul, Ill., native retired from Consolidated Industries as a setup man in 1988 and had worked for 28 years at Dynamic Corp. in Montmorenci, where he was a foreman. He was a member of Southern Missionary Baptist Church for more than 40 years, a member of Griffith Masonic Lodge 735 Free & Accepted Masons and enjoyed woodworking, gardening and fishing.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Mary Lee Edmonds Huff; a son, David Huff of Monticello, Ind.; two daughters, Rhonda Bryant of Danville, Ill., and Cheryl Nevrkla of West Lafayette; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a sister, Altha Flatter of Schererville, Ind.
Services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home in Owensboro. Burial will be in Owensboro Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Richards-Loy & Wheeler Funeral Home in Lafayette, and after 11 a.m. Saturday at Glenn Funeral Home. SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Mary Lou Johnston Wolfe, 49, of South Bend died there Sunday, July 8, 2001, at Memorial Hospital. The Muhlenberg County native owned American Closet in South Bend and was a member of Lone Star Baptist Church in Weir. She graduated from Muhlenberg Central High School in 1970 and attended Murray State University.
Survivors include her husband of 29 years, Mack Wolfe; her parents, Carley and Katie Johnston of Greenville; three brothers, Carl Johnston of Greenville, Wayne Johnston of Gastonia, N.C., and Tommy Groves of Bluff Springs; three sisters, Sandra Carringer of Apex, N.C., and Elnora Sherrod and Dorothy Boggess, both of Greenville; and several nephews and nieces.
Services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Gary's Funeral Home in Greenville. Burial will be in Lone Star cemetery in Weir. Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Orvel 'Gene' Griffin

DEMOTTE, Ind. -- Orvel "Gene" Griffin, 63, of DeMotte died there Saturday, July 7, 2001, at Oak Grove Christian Retirement Village from natural causes. The Ripley, Tenn., native was a laborer for 30 years at Interlake Steel in Riverdale, Ill., attended Ripley schools and was an Army veteran.
Survivors include a son, David Griffin of California; a daughter, Debbie Kirk of DeMotte; three grandchildren; four brothers, J.B. Griffin of Ripley, John Griffin of Schneider, Ind., Bill Griffin of Owensboro and Ray Griffin of Sharon Grove; and four sisters, Faye Ervin of Selmer, Tenn., Linda Crowder of Ripley and Carolyn Daniels and Kathy Hester, both of Owensboro.
Services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Jackson Funeral Service in DeMotte. Interment will be in Skyline cemetery in Monee, Ill. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Alzheimer's Association.

CANNELTON, Ind. -- Donald A. Smith Jr., 21, of Cannelton died Sunday, July 29, 2001, from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Warrick County. The Portsmouth, Va., native worked at Sabelhaus Construction Co. and had worked with his father at Don Smith Electrical. He enjoyed electrical work, concerts, skateboarding, playing video games and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include his fiancé, Ashley Ingle of Cannelton; a daughter, Taylynn Smith of Cannelton; his parents, Donald Smith Sr. and Lora Ann Smith, both of Tell City, Ind.; his grandmothers, Helen Hess of Tell City and Beulah Smith of Cannelton; and a sister, Megan Smith of Evansville.

TELL CITY, Ind. -- George W. Thiery Sr., 78, of Tell City died Saturday, July 28, 2001, at Owensboro Mercy Health System. The Bandon, Ind., native was a woodworker, a World War II Navy veteran, a Korean War Army veteran and a member of Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include two sons, George Thiery of Evansville and Roger Thiery of Henderson; a daughter, Vicky McCoy of Louisa; two grandchildren; a brother, Floyd Thiery of Tell City; and a sister, Eva Falls of Lamar, Ind.
Services are at 11 a.m. Monday at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home in Tell City. Burial with full military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2939 will be in St. Augustine Church cemetery in Leopold, Ind. ROCKPORT, Ind. -- Joyce Dawson Yearby, 79, of Rockport died Monday, July 9, 2001, at her home from cancer. She was manager of Spencer County (Ind.) License Branch and a member of Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Ferman Yearby Jr.; two sons, Ferman Yearby III and Ron Yearby, both of Rockport; a daughter, Gay Yearby-Williams of Eddyville; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Anita Heckel of Tell City, Ind.
