Owen E. Huston
March 10, 1917 - Jan. 18, 1999
Owen E. "Ralph" Huston, 81, of Lynnewood Avenue, South Bend, Ind., died at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 18, in his residence.
He was born on March 10, 1917, in St. Joseph County, Ind., to Cora Bell (Holdread) and Alva Huston, who both preceded him in death. On April 10, 1937, in Auburn, Ind., he married
Adeline Mae Saberniak, who also preceded him in death on Aug. 11, 1996.
Mr. Huston is survived by a son James and his wife, Judith of Edwardsburg, Mich.; five grandchildren and five great - grandchildren; and by a sister, Virginia Hooton of South Bend.
Mr. Huston retired in 1975 after 38 Þ years of service from Bendix Corporation where he was a foreman. He was a member of Eagles Lodge #435 in South Bend and was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a former member of the St. Joseph County Air Posse.
Services for Mr. Huston will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 22, in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, South Bend, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21. Burial will be in Riverview cemetery.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637 - 3437; or to the American Cancer Society, 404 S. Columbia, Suite 250, South Bend, IN 46601.

Mark G. Lipak

Mark G. Lipak, 73, formerly of Farm Lane, South Bend, Ind., most recently of Wheaton, Ill., died from renal disease on Monday morning, Jan. 18, in the Parkview HealthCare Center in Wheaton.
Mr. Lipak was born in Harrisburg, Pa. After high school he served in World War II as a pharmacist's mate for the U. S. Navy. He also served in the Korean Conflict as a property and supply clerk with the United States Marine Corps.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion, Steelton, Pa., Post #420, and was a Fourth Degree Knight from the Knights of Columbus, Council #940, Latrobe, Pa.
Mr. Lipak was an avid lifetime fan of Notre Dame. He was a ticket - holder for over 20 years, rarely missing a home football game. In the past Mr. Lipak enjoyed golf, bowling, big band music, and reading a multitude of daily newspapers. He was a fun - loving person.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene A. Lipak.
He is survived by his children, Edward J. Kacik of Marshfield, Mass., Mark T. Lipak of Columbus, Ohio, Maribeth Spittler of Wheaton, Ill., and Lisa Woodson of Ashburn, Va.; and by ten grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the Hickey Funeral Home, 17131 Cleveland Road, with a Rosary being said at 7:30 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger, Ind.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sacred Heart Parish, Notre Dame, IN.
William G. Magley
March 2, 1916 - Jan. 16, 1999
William George Magley, 82, of Chandler, Ariz., formerly of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 4:35 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 16, in the Chandler Health Care Center in Chandler, Ariz.
Mr. Magley was born on March 2, 1916, in Lansing, Mich., and lived most of his life raising his family in South Bend. He had lived in Chandler, Ariz., since 1979. Mr. Chandler retired after 30 years as a union official with the Allied Signal/Bendix Corporation.
In November 1978, in South Bend, he married
Alberta Williams. With Bill Magley's passing he now joins the mother of his four children, Mary Nagy Magley. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Helen and Rosetta Magley of Lansing, Mich.; and by a brother, Louis Magley of Lansing.
Left to mourn is Alberta Magley of Chandler, Ariz.; two daughters, Elaine Magley of Lansing, Mich., and Susan Mary Magley of San Francisco, Calif.; four sons, David John (Evelyn) Magley of Bradenton, Fla., William Peter (Rebecca) Magley of Stevensville, Mich., Patrick Earl (B.J.) Magley of South Bend and Dennis (Susan) Williams of Fort Worth, Texas; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Magley, Jessica Magley, David Magley, Jr., and Daniel Magley, all of Bradenton, Fla., Ryan Magley, Rachael Magley and Caleb Magley, all of Stevensville, Mich., Kelly Magley of South Bend and Devin Williams of Fort Worth, Texas; and by a brother, Orlin "Skip" Magley of Tempe, Ariz.
Mr. Magley was a member of the U.A.W. Local #9. He played professional baseball for the Chicago Cubs farm system and was a Seven State Champion Golden Glove in the middle heavyweight division. He had fought on the same ticket with Joe Louis. Mr. Magley was an active pioneer in the sporting community of South Bend/Mishawaka, helping to organize the Northwest Little League, was an umpire in chief for the Fast Pitch Softball of Indiana for 25 years, and had umpired the 1962 World Series of Fast Pitch Softball in Clearwater, Fla. He was also a big booster of the LaSalle High School basketball program.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 22, in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, with Rev. Patrick E. Magley officiating. Burial will follow in Highland cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home.

Ned Redding
Feb. 22, 1905 - Jan. 17, 1999
Mr. Ned Redding, 93, of Worrell Street, Niles, Mich., passed away following an extended illness at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, Jan. 17, in the Lake - land Medical Center, Niles.
Mr. Redding was born on Feb. 22, 1905, in Bolling Brook, Ga., to the union of Jane and Wilson Redding, who both preceded him in death. In 1926, coming to South Bend, Ind., he was united in holy matrimony to Nannie Barnes. He and his wife moved to the Niles area in 1951, where he resided.
He leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his loving memory his wife, Nannie; a sister, Emma Chambliss of South Bend; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Redding was an employee of the Studebaker Corporation until 1963. He was a former member of the Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Niles.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 21, at the Alford's Mortuary, with burial following at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, Ind. Visitation will occur one hour prior to the time of services.
Alford's Mortuary is in charge of handling arrangements.
Richard S. Szymanowski

Richard S. Szymanowski, 70, of West Washington Street, South Bend, Ind., died at 10:50 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 18, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center.
He was born on May 12, 1928, in South Bend, and was a lifelong area resident. He retired from the former Inland Distributing Corporation.
On Oct. 29, 1949, in South Bend, he married
Rita Pinkowski, who survives.
He is also survived by four sons, Gregory, Lee, Randy (Joann) and Ricky (Elizabeth), all of South Bend; and by seven grandchildren, Joel of Little Rock, Ark., Darrick, Marckus, Matthew, Carly, Jordan and Sydney, all of South Bend.
Mr. Szymanowski was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Pejza.
Mr. Szymanowski was a Navy veteran of World War II, a member of American Legion Post 3357, Senior Citizens of St. Casimir Church, the Mruks Club, and was vice - president of the Holy Name Society.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. today in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a combined Rosary will be said by the parish and Senior Citizens of St. Casimir Catholic Church at 4 p.m.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday in St. Casimir Catholic Church, with burial to follow at St. Joseph cemetery.

ELKHART - Charles R. "Rex" Aller, 51, of 25738 Sunset Ave., died at 10:03 a.m. Tuesday in Elkhart General Hospital. The Elkhart County Coroner's Office is investigating the cause of death. Survivors include his wife, Margaret E. (Minton); three sisters, Janet Connah and Joanne Hurley, both of Elkhart, and Sharon Blyly of Osceola; and two brothers, Larry of Littleton, Colo., and Jerry of Elkhart. There will be no service or visitation. The Stemm - Lawson - Peterson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
