NILES - Lois I. Asmus, 68, of 1994 Lewis Drive, died Saturday in Raulerson Hospital, Okeechobee, Fla. Survivors include her husband, Thomas; a daughter, Alyce Fisher of Peru, Ind.; three sons, Donald of Perry, Fla., Robert of Niles and Thomas of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Alyce Block of Niles; and a brother, James Berridge of South Bend. Bass Okeechobe (Fla.) Funeral Home handled arrangements. There will be no visitation or services. Halbritter Funeral Home is handling local arrangements.

William H. Bergh

Nov. 23, 1913 - March 28, 1999

MISHAWAKA - William H. Bergh, 85, of Eisenhower Drive, died Sunday in St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, South Bend, of natural causes. Survivors include his wife, Phyllis E. of Copper Harbor, Mich.; two daughters, Martha A. Lantz of Mishawaka and Lois J. Waldron of Coopersville, Mich.; and a brother, Paul of Caro, Mich. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in Bubb Funeral Chapel North.

Eugene B. Callighan

Oct. 12, 1913 - March 28, 1999

WARSAW - Eugene Burtrum Callighan, 85, of 1630 S. County Farm Road, died at 10:55 a.m. Sunday in Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw. Survivors include a son, David E. of Warsaw; and a sister, Doris Mindeman of Kalamazoo. There will be no services of visitation. Titus Funeral Home is handling arrangement.

Marianna Candido

May 24, 1925 - March 28, 1999

SOUTH BEND - Marianna Candido, 73, of Cardinal Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, formerly of Sorin Street, died Sunday in the center of natural causes. Survivors include a sister, Rosemary Ferraro of South Bend; and a brother, Dominick Mazzone of San Diego. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today in McGann Funeral Home, 2313 E. Edison Road, where the rosary will be said at 5 p.m.

Randall T. Crowder

Jan. 20, 1984 - March 29, 1999

PIERCETON - Randall Thomas Crowder, 15, of 10526 Morning Mist Trail, Fort Wayne, formerly of Warsaw, died at 1:38 a.m. Monday in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, after an illness. Survivors include his mother, Dawnette Dockery of Pierceton; his father, Tom Crowder of Fort Wayne; and a sister, Rebecca Schubert of Chesapeake, Va. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in McHatton - Sadler Funeral Home, Warsaw, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Walter J. Deranek

Sept. 15, 1909 - March 29, 1999

SOUTH BEND - Walter J. Deranek, 89, of East LaSalle Avenue, who lived in the home of his daughter - in - law, died Monday in her home. Survivors include a sister, Mary Szalay of South Bend; and two brothers, Stanley of White Bear Lake, Minn., and Henry of South Bend. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish rosary will be said at 5 p.m.

Barbara Diener

June 25, 1911 - March 28, 1999

NAPPANEE - Barbara Diener, 87, of LuAnn Nursing Home, died Sunday in the nursing home of natural causes. Survivors include four daughters, Sally Brown of Goshen, Anna Yoder of Bremen and Lydia Miller and Erla Walters, both of Nappanee; and a son, Lester of Leesburg. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in North Main Street Mennonite Church. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in Thompson - Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, and one hour before services in the church on Wednesday.

Sarah V. Diller

Nov. 26, 1931 - March 2, 1999

MISHAWAKA - Sarah V. Diller, 67, of Seligman, Ariz., formerly of Mishawaka, died March 2 in Hospice of the Valley, Phoenix. Survivors include a son, James Lawton of Chandler, Ariz.; her mother, Emily Lidecker of Chandler; and a sister, Patricia Zubler of South Bend. There will be no services or visitation. Guaranty Mortuary, Phoenix, is handling arrangements.

Jonathon M. Duncan

Dec. 11, 1998 - March 28, 1999

TOPEKA - Jonathon M. Duncan, 3 months, of 204 Pleasant Ave., died Sunday in Cameron Hospital, Angola, Ind., of natural causes. Survivors include his parents, Rebekah J. (Mehrley) and Thomas M. Duncan. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Johnson - Danielson Funeral Home, Plymouth, where friends may call from one hour before services.

Oletha L. Ford

Dec. 2, 1909 - March 25, 1999

ELKHART - Oletha L. Ford, 89, of 30945 Carroll Ave., died Thursday in Elkhart General Hospital. Survivors include four daughters, Nancy Orebaugh and Barbara Ford, both of Indianapolis, and Joan Laffoon and Victoria Harmon, both of Elkhart. Services were Monday in Walley - Mills - Zimmerman Funeral Home.

Donald E. Hafer

Sept. 15, 1914 - March 28, 1999

ELKHART - Donald E. Hafer, 84, of 1843 S. Scarlet Maple Lane, died at 6:03 p.m. Sunday in Elkhart General Hospital, of natural causes. Survivors include his wife, Violet (Gran); three daughters, Marilyn Vadase of Riverside, Calif., Bonnie Kennedy of Yreka, Calif., and Dorinda Rice of Elkhart; twin sons, Daniel L. of Los Angeles and Dennis F. of Toronto; and a sister, Margaret Dillon of San Diego. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Faith Baptist Church. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Billings Funeral Home, and one hour before services at the church.

Verda F. Heim

July 7, 1902 - March 26, 1999

WALKERTON - Verda P. Heim, 96, Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home, Walkerton, died Friday in the home. Survivors include a daughter, Patricia Hedberg of Roselle, Ill. Graveside memorial services will be held at a later date at Polk Township cemetery. There will be no visitation. Nusbaum - Elkin Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Everil (Kinsey); and a daughter, Doris Shively of Nappanee. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today.

David Ray Hershberger

GOSHEN - David Ray Hershberger, 15 months, of 14406 Indiana 4, died at 10 p.m. Sunday in his home, of an illness. Survivors include his parents, Wanda S. (Yoder) and Marion L. Hershberger, of Goshen; and a brother, Andrew L. at home. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the residence of Lavern Yoder, 15001 Indiana 4. Friends may call after 1 p.m. today and all day Wednesday at the family home. Yoder - Culp Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

WARSAW - Bruce Leckrone Heyde, 40, of Greenwood, Ind., formerly of Warsaw, died at 2:15 a.m. Sunday in Regency Place Nursing Home, Greenwood, after an illness. Survivors include his wife, Cristi L. (Hansen); two daughters, Lauren A. Heyde and Ashley B. Heyde, both at home; a son, Brad A. of Lexington, Ky.; his parents, Dr. Russell L. and Patricia (Leckrone) Heyde of Warsaw; three sisters, Rebecca A. (Heyde) Shaefer of Fort Wayne, Jane L. (Heyde) Coplen of Warsaw and Ann M. (Heyde) Harman of Claypool; and a brother, Lee L. of Warsaw. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in McHatton - Sadler Funeral Chapel, Warsaw, where friends may call from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m.

M. Georgene Jackson

SOUTH BEND - M. Georgene Jackson, 86, of Rue Marceau, died Monday in Hospice House of St. Joseph County. Survivors include a sister, Viola E. Mellen of Mishawaka. There will be no services or visitation. Palmer Funeral Home, South Bend, is handling arrangements.

SOUTH BEND - Mary Helen Kavanaugh, 96, of Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center, died Saturday in the center. Survivors include a sister, Sister Regina Kavanaugh, CSC, of Notre Dame. There will be no services or visitation. Kaniewski Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Connie J. Hudson Gray

Connie J. Hudson Gray, 54, of Greenfield, Ind., died Sept. 6, 2005, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis.

She was a homemaker. She graduated from Eastern High School in Louisville and from Ivy Tech State College.

She is survived by her husband, Phil Gray; her mother, Ethel Hudson Tucker of Owensboro; daughter, April Camp of Indianapolis; three stepchildren; sisters, Nora Bilbro of Owensboro, Felicia Hudson of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Nelda Gocool of North Hutchinson Island, Fla.; and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Hudson; brother, Dennis Hudson; and sister Betty Thompson.

Services were held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at Pasco-Stillinger Funeral Home in Greenfield with the Rev. Mike Manning officiating.

James Warner 'Pop' Christian

James Warner "Pop" Christian, 70, of Vincennes, Ind., died there at 10:20 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, 2005, at Willow Manor. He was born July 29, 1935, in Daviess County and retired from Charley's Smorgasbord in Vincennes and also worked at Martin Marietta and was head chef at Gabe's Restaurant. He was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed watching NASCAR, fishing and Cubs baseball games and spending time with family and his dog, Benji. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard I. Christian and Mary Caroline Higdon Christian; brothers J.W. Christian, Lawrence Christian, Alfred Christian and Daddy Cal Christian; and a sister, Clemmie Ward.

Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Pauline Christian; a son, Scott Christian and his wife, Marla, of Owensboro; three daughters, Marsha Payne and her husband, Steve, of Owensboro, Penney Brooks of Owensboro and Tammy Newcomb and her husband, Brett, of Philpot; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; four stepgreat-grandchildren; a brother, Bud Christian of Owensboro; and a sister, Margaret Weber of Arlington Heights, Ill.

No service will be held. Burial is in St. Mary of the Woods cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Haley-McGinnis Funeral Home. Prayers will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
