Survivors include his wife, Catherine; three daughters, Renee Messman, Rebecca Shail and Ranae Shail, all of LaPorte; his mother, Phyllis Messman of LaPorte; a sister, Deborah Lewis of New Carlisle; and a brother, John of LaPorte. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Essling Funeral Home, where friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday and two hours before services Friday.

"Mindy" Gaunt and Linda Howell, both of LaPorte, Constance Oxley of Shaftsbury, Vt., and Julia Gregory of Athens, Ga.; and five sons, Robert Kiger and Douglas Kiger, both of LaPorte, Christopher Purcell of New Buffalo, Michael Purcell of Charlotte, N.C., and Lee Purcell of Novi, Mich.
