SOUTH BEND - William Benjamin Woods, 73, of East LaSalle Street, died Saturday in Memorial Hospital. Survivors include a daughter, Toni Evans of South Bend; six sons, Roscoe of Los Angeles, Maurice of Dallas, Benson of Seattle, Quincy of Atlanta, Ranando of South Bend, and Joel of Indianapolis; and two sisters, Wilma Long of Los Angeles, and Peggie Boddie of Philadelphia. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Alford's Mortuary. There will be no visitation.

Genevieve G. Worm

Aug. 25, 1914 - Oct. 20, 1998

LAKEVILLE - Genevieve Grace Worm, 84, of Osborne Road, died Tuesday in Bon - Secours/Venice Healthcare Center, Venice, Fla. Survivors include her husband, Harold "Willie"; five sons, Roger of Lakeville, Paul of Nokomis, Fla., John of Reynolds, Ind., Don of Venice and Loren of Rockford, Ill.; two sisters, Betty Wesolek of North Liberty and Marguarite Krogsrud of Roseville, Calif.; and five brothers, Walter Moon of Bristol, Lamar Moon of Page, N.D., Maynard Moon of Lakeville, Grant Moon of South Bend and Clyde D. Moon of Fontana, Calif. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Lakeville United Methodist Church. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday in Palmer Funeral Home, Lakeville, and one hour before services in the church Saturday.

Dorothy M. Bowen

Oct. 3, 1915 - July 18, 1998

WHITE PIGEON - Dorothy M. (Cast) Bowen, 82, died at 8:15 p.m. Saturday in her home. Survivors include two sons, Don Cast of White Pigeon and Dan Cast of Three Rivers; and a brother, John Hahn of Downers Grove, Ill. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in United Methodist church. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Farrand Funeral Home.

John Canale

March 3, 1926 - July 19, 1998

PLYMOUTH - John Canale, 72, of Miller's Merry Manor Nursing Home, died Sunday in the nursing home. He is survived by his wife, Irene. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Etna Green. There is no visitation. Deaton Funeral Home, Bourbon, is handling arrangements.

James E. Fairchild

Sept. 14, 1926 - July 18, 1998

ELKHART - James E. Fairchild, 71, of 1208 E. Jackson Blvd., died Saturday in Elkhart General Hospital. Survivors include his wife, Betty J.; two daughters, Mary Wilkinson of Fort Wayne and Debra Mick of Advance, N.C.; five sons, Jim Fairchild of Portland, Ore., Steve Fairchild of Crown Point, Ind., David Fairchild and John Mitchell, both of Elkhart, and Mikel Mitchell of Mishawaka; and a brother, Jack of Atlanta. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Walley - Mills - Zimmerman Funeral Home, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

Joe W. Harmon

Oct. 5, 1926 - July 19, 1998

PLYMOUTH - Joe W. Harmon, 71, of 1104 S. Michigan St., died at 12:10 p.m. Sunday in St. Joseph's Hospital of Marshall County. Survivors include his wife, Velma I. (Powers); two daughters, Patricia I. Redman of Bourbon and Lynda J. Ullery of Plymouth; and a son, William J. of Florida. There will be no services or visitation. Van Gilder Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Dorothea M. Helms

Feb. 6, 1916 - July 18, 1998

MICHIGAN CITY - Dorothea M. Helms, 82, of Cardinal Drive, died at 7:10 p.m. Saturday in St. Anthony Hospital. Survivors include a son, Stephen of Westville; a sister, Frances Kempf of Michigan City; and two brothers, Frank and Joseph Bowers, both of Michigan City. Private family services will be held. There will be no visitation. Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel is handling arrangements.

Joseph R. Helmuth

March 11, 1934 - July 18, 1998

BREMEN - Joseph R. Helmuth, 64, of 11594 N. County Road 1100 West, died Saturday in his home. Survivors include his wife, Nora J.; three daughters, Rose Miller and Susan Schmucker, both of Nappanee and Mary Jean Miller of Goshen; three sons, Glen R. and Lavern, both of Bremen, and Larry of Bourbon; four sisters, Florence Miller of Elkhart, Laura Yoder of Partridge, Kan., Mary Shrock of Hughsville, Mo. and Irene Miller of Nappanee; and a brother, Christ of Elkhart. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the family residence, where friends may call all day today. Thompson - Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, Nappanee, is handling arrangements.

Elsie L. Hutchison

May 2, 1914 - July 18, 1998

ELKHART - Elsie L. (Walters) Hutchison, 84, of First Street, died Saturday in Elkhart General Hospital. Survivors include her husband, Jesse D.; two daughters, Sharon Hoover of Osceola and Cynthia Miko of Elkhart; and two sons, William and Dennis, both of Elkhart. Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Jan. 15, 1929 - July 18, 1998

MIDDLEBURY - Samuel A. Kauffman, Sr., 69, of 60425 County Road 37, died at 11:04 a.m. Saturday in Elkhart General Hospital, Elkhart. Survivors include his wife, JoAnne F. (Stealy); two sons, Barry A. of Rome City and Kent A. of Middlebury; three sisters, Nona Miller and Magdalena LeCount, both of Howe and Ruby Kauffman of Goshen; and two brothers, Ben A. of Union and Frederick A. of Perryton, Texas. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in West Goshen Church of the Brethren, Goshen. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Rieth, Rohrer & Ehret Funeral Home, Goshen.

NILES - Richard G. King, 71, of State Line Road, died at 8:55 p.m. Friday in Lakeland Medical Center - Niles. Survivors include his wife, Norma King; a daughter, Shirley King of Niles; and a son, Richard P. of Union. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday in Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood, South Bend.

Alberta M. Ramsey

Feb. 7, 1937 - July 18, 1998

MICHIGAN CITY - Alberta M. "Bert" Ramsey, 61, of Ben Davis Drive, died at 9:25 a.m. Saturday in Red Oaks Health Care Center. Survivors include two daughters, Donna Handtke and Lori Patty, both of Michigan City; and a son, Gerald of Michigan City. Graveside services will be at a later date in Greenwood cemetery. There is no visitation. Root Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

BARODA - Dorothy Shafer, 79, of 1086 Lemon Creek Road, died Sunday in Lakeland Continuing Care Center, St. Joseph. Survivors include two sons, George W. of Berrien Springs and Richard A. of Elmira, Mich. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Allred Funeral Home, Berrien Springs, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today and two hours before services Tuesday.

Lt. Col. Joyce A. Thornton

March 11, 1914 - July 19, 1998

EDWARDSBURG - Lt. Col. Joyce A. Thornton, 84, of Allendale, Mich., formerly of Edwardsburg, died Sunday in her home. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in Eley Funeral Home, Constantine. There is no visitation.

Amos E. Benjamin

SOUTH BEND - Amos E. Benjamin, 85, of 22500 Adams Road, died Saturday in St. Joseph's Medical Center. Survivors include his wife, Beulah (Buckner Toth). Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Pifer - Smith Funeral Home, Niles, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Pauline V. Cherry

Jan. 22, 1933 - Sept. 5, 1998

SOUTH BEND - Pauline V. Cherry, 65, of 1215 Fairington Circle, died Saturday in her home. Survivors include a daughter, Susanne Spilski of South Bend; and a brother, David Vincent of Mishawaka. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Palmer Funeral Home, South Bend, where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Sept. 16, 1930 - Sept. 6, 1998

MISHAWAKA - B. Sue McCombs, 67, of Birchwood Drive, died at 12:55 a.m. Sunday in St. Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend. Survivors include her husband, James E.; two daughters, Patricia A. McCombs - Polich of Chicago and Juli M. Humbles of Berthoud, Colo.; two sons, Steven B. of Versailles, Ind., and Martin B. of Long Beach, Calif.; her mother, Lila Schiffer of South Bend; and a brother, William C. Schiffer of Seattle. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, Osceola, where friends may call one hour before services.
