Frederick J. Stein
June 30, 1920 - March 31, 1999
Frederick J. Stein, 79, of 520 West 11th Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away after an illness at 12:05 a.m. on Wednesday, March 31, at Miller's Merry Manor in Wakarusa, Ind.
Mr. Stein was born on June 30, 1920, in Sheboygan, Wis., as the son of the late Joseph and Regina (Hillebrand) Stein. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Fryatt in 1997. Mr. Stein had been a area resident since 1944, coming from Wisconsin.
On Feb. 9, 1951, in South Bend, Mr. Stein married
the former Bonita Couse. Mr. Stein is survived by his wife of 48 years, Bonita; their two daughters, Roseanne M. Cady of Indianapolis, Ind., and Betty (Steve) Clausel of Goshen, Ind.; three sons, Frederick (Becky) Stein of Elkhart, Ind., Gerald T. Stein and Ronald C. Stein, both of Mishawaka; seven grandchildren, Todd Stein, Lisa Stein, Magen Cady, Samantha Qualls, Crystal Stein, Jeri Lynn Stein and Brandy Fryatt; one great - grandson, Austin Qualls; a sister, Ann Van De Loo of Mishawaka; and by three brothers, Andy Stein and Roman Stein, both of Mishawaka, and Robert Stein of Green Bay, Wis.
Mr. Stein was co - owner of Mishawaka Wheel Alignment for 44 years before retiring in 1988. After his retirement he worked for Bobbies Security at Liberty Mutual as well as West End Hardware, Mishawaka. He was also a member of the B - K Club in Mishawaka, the Democratic Men's Club, and was a member of and an usher at St. Bavo's Catholic Church.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 10, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka, with Rev. James Shafer, pastor of St. Bavo's Catholic Church officiating.

Lucile E. Strandhagen
Aug. 14, 1909 - April 2, 1999
Lucile Evelyn Strandhagen, 89, died after a lengthy illness on Friday, April 2, in Palo Alto, Calif.
Lucile "Lucy" was born in Williamsburg, Mich., on Aug. 14, 1909, the daughter of Seymour M. Perry and Blanche Carpenter Perry.
She was married
to Adolf Gustave Strandhagen on Aug. 22, 1940. She is survived by her daughters, Gretchen Kagel of Atascadero, Calif., and Karen P. Ross of Palo Alto; two grandchildren, Peter D. Ross of Palo Alto and Meredith A. Ross of Sausalito, Calif.; and by her brother, Robert Perry of Danville, Calif.
Lucile graduated with a B.A. in 1930 from Albion College in Albion, Mich. In 1937 she graduated from the University of Michigan School of Nursing in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Throughout her career she was a teacher at Imlay City High School in Imlay City, Mich., was a laboratory assistant and instructor in anatomy and bacteriology in the medical school at the University of Michigan, a camp nurse at Camp Tanadoonah in Cassopolis, Mich., and was supervisor of gerontology at the Sisters of Holy Cross Convent, Notre Dame, Ind.
From 1946 until 1992 Lucile lived in South Bend, Ind., where she was an active volunteer in the PTA, Camp Fire Girls, Ladies of Notre Dame and the Notre Dame Library Association. Her hobbies included duplicate bridge, painting, traveling and writing. She was a member of the First Methodist Church in South Bend. She had been residing in Palo Alto since 1992.
The visitation hours will be from 10 to noon on Thursday, April 8, at the Welsheimer Funeral Home, South Bend. At 12:30 p.m. there will be graveside services at Cedar Grove cemetery at Notre Dame.

Bernadine A. Wodrich

Bernadine "Berni" A. Wodrich, 56, of 151 Ontario Road, Niles, Mich., died early Saturday evening, April 3, at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Ind.
Services are planned at the America Legion, LaRue Messenger Post #26 in Niles, at 11:30 a.m. today, April 7.
Ms. Wodrich was born on Oct. 26, 1942, in Chicago, Ill.
She is survived by her daughter, Dawn Demler, and her son, Carl Wodrich, both of Buchanan, Mich. She is also survived by a sister, Rosmarie Kumicich of Niles; and by two brothers, Richard Kumicich of Munster, Ind., and Carl Bergman of Mechanicsburg, Pa. She will also be greatly missed by her best friend, Rose Conard of Niles.
She was a member of the Galien American Legion Post #344 Auxiliary. She worked in Buchanan at Furniture Find.COM as a customer service representative.

MISHAWAKA - Beverly E. Bricker, 88, of Village Drive, died Thursday in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, after an illness. KNOX - Dale A. Brockett, 41, of 503 W. Lafayette, died Friday in Hospice of St. Joseph County after an illness. Survivors include his mother, Illa (Rodgers) Brockett of Knox; two sisters, Judy Brockett of LaPorte and Cheryl Beehler of Mishawaka; and three brothers, Neil of Valparaiso, Kenny of Stinnett, Texas, and Mark of Portage. LAPORTE - Anton H. "Tony" Hoeppner, 78, of 1977 N. Pioneer Road, died Friday in LaPorte Hospital of natural causes. Survivors include his wife, Edith; two daughters, Karen Howes of LaPorte and Kathleen Burtch of Manassas, Va.; two sons, David of Hong Kong and Thomas of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a stepson, Ronald Fritz of LaPorte; two sisters, Mary A.
