LAPORTE - - Vesta June Slone, 89, of Fountainview Terrace, formerly of Walkerton, died Sunday in the nursing home. She is survived by four daughters, Fay Snodgrass and Louise Krick, both of Walkerton, Vivian Stout of North Liberty and Iona Nice of Peru, Ind.; and two sons, William R. Slone Jr., of Shreveport, La., and Delor Wolfenburger of Texas. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday in Nusbaum - Elkin Funeral Home, Walkerton, where friends may call from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

ELKHART - - Ruth Ware, 63, of 907 12th St., died Friday in her home after an illness. She is survived by four sisters, Mary Dean, Sarah E. Ware and Catherine Ware, all of Elkhart, and Rose M. SOUTH BEND - - John Ciesialka Jr., 64, of Lombardy Drive, died Saturday in Memorial Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Deloris (Stoddard); two daughters, Anna Gardener of Buffalo, Okla., and Christine Ciesialka of South Bend; two sons, Ervin of Ramstine, Germany, and Timothy of South Bend; and two sisters, Phyllis Wentland and Adeline Walczewski, both of South Bend. SOUTH BEND - - Richard D. Sheetz, 74, of South 36th Street, died at 9:50 p.m. Friday in his home, after an illness. Survivors include his wife, Monna Y. (Bowlin); two sons, Vince S. of New Orleans and Kent D. of Las Vegas; and a sister, Louise Smith of Tustin, Calif. There will be no services or visitation. Josephine Baldoni
June 10, 1917 - April 6, 1999
Josephine "Jo" Baldoni, 81, of Tanglewood Lane, Mishawaka, Ind., formerly of West 11th Street, Mishawaka, passed away after an illness at 5:50 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, in Foun - tainview Place, Mishawaka.
Josephine was born on June 10, 1917, in South Bend, Ind., as the daughter of the late Joseph and Augusta (De Schepper) Joss. In May 1937, as the former Josephine Joos in Crown Point, Ind., she married
Edward Baldoni, who preceded her in death on Nov. 30, 1995. She was also preceded in death by a son, Romolo John Baldoni on Dec. 24, 1956; and by a brother, Frank Joss.
Josephine is survived by a daughter, Clarice (Joseph) Ruppe; and a son, Anthony "Tony" (Sharon) Baldoni, both of Mishawaka; seven grandchildren and four great - grandchildren; three sisters - in - law, Louise Schiebelhut, Bina Garatoni and Angeline Marcantini, all of Mishawaka. Josephine is also survived by several nieces and nephews, along with her grandchildren who will cherish her memory and miss her dearly.
Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, in the Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A wake prayer service will be at 5 p.m. on Thursday in the funeral home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 9, in the funeral home, with Rev. James Shafer, pastor of St. Bavo's Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview cemetery, Mishawaka.

Walter R. Botich, Sr.
Dec. 2, 1923 - April 5, 1999
SOUTH BEND - Walter R. Botich, Sr., 75, of Ladbrooke Lane, passed away at 7:42 a.m. on Monday, April 5, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Botich retired from the Indiana Department of Transportation where he was a purchasing agent.
He was born on Dec. 2, 1923, in South Bend, Ind., to Alex and Stana Botich, who both preceded him in death.
On June 8, 1946, in South Bend, he married
Donna Shaffer, who survives.
He is also survived by a son, Walter R. (Kristy) Botich, Jr., of South Bend; a stepson, Gene (Patty) McGowen of Niles; a stepdaughter, Patricia (Russell) Hosler of Edwardsburg, Mich.; two grandchildren, Walter R. Botich, III, and Joseph W. Botich; five stepgrandchildren, Jeff McGowen, Brett McGowen, Russell Hosler, Phillip Hosler and Chris Hosler; and by a brother, Michael Botich of South Bend.
Funeral services will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, in the Sts. Peter and Paul Serbian Orthodox church. Burial will follow in Southlawn cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Avenue, and one hour before the services in the church. A prayer service will be conducted at 7 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sts. Peter and Paul Serbian Orthodox Church or to the Visiting Nurse Association.
John A. Brown
Nov. 7, 1921 - April 6, 1999
John A. Brown, 77, of Craig Road, South Bend, Ind., passed away after an illness at 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, in Saint Joseph's Regional Medical Center.
He was born on Nov. 7, 1921, in Saginaw, Mich., to Jay M. and Ethel Mae (Uren) Brown, and lived in this area since 1953, coming from Pontiac, Mich.
Mr. Brown retired in 1991 from Michiana News Service of Niles where he was the manager after 16 years of service. He had been in the publisher distribution business for over 50 years.
On May 27, 1948, in St. Andrew's Church in Saginaw, Mich., he married
Audrey G. Gillespie, who survives.
He is also survived by a daughter, Jenny (Dan) McBride of Westville, Ind.; a grandson, Sean McBride; a sister, Sister Mary Timothy, R.S.M., of Farmington Hills, Mich.; and two brothers, James R. "Bill" Brown of Midland, Mich., and Thomas J. (Pat) Brown of West Bloomfield, Mich.; and by many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Brown was a World War II Army veteran, a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Ave Maria Council 5521, a lifetime member of the Elks Lodge 235, a member of the University Club, Notre Dame, St. Jude Catholic Church, the Usher's Club, and was a member of American Legion Post 161. John was an avid golfer and Notre Dame football fan.
Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, 1827 E. Ireland Road, where a parish Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday in St. Jude Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Southlawn cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Chapin Street Clinic.
Anthony A. Carmola
Feb. 12, 1924 - April 3, 1999
Anthony A. (Tony) Carmola of Granger, age 75, devoted husband, father, brother, and grandfather, died Saturday April 3, 1999, in Memorial Hospital after a month long illness.
Tony was born in Dover, Ohio, on February 12, 1924, the son of Helen and Lawrence Carmola who immigrated from Southern Italy. Tony was a devoted son who helped his parents throughout his early life with their business, the Dover Shoe Shop, repairing and selling shoes. In high school Tony was an excellent athlete and a starting guard at 5'5" on his Dover High School State championship basketball team. It was during this time that he got the nickname "Baby." He also learned to play the coronet, which he loved, and earned many awards for his excellence in playing.
Tony moved to South Bend after his honorable discharge from the Navy to continue his education at the University of Notre Dame where he was previously enrolled. Tony graduated with a BS degree in accounting with the Class of 1950. While at Notre Dame he was a member of the Notre Dame Band where he played the coronet. He also spent a lot of time on the golf course, playing golf, which became a lifetime hobby.
Tony is survived by his loving wife, Mary A. Contini of Dover, Ohio, who he married
in August 1949. He is also survived by his four children and their spouses, Christianne McSweeney (Brian) of Alexandria, Virginia, Susanne Seall (Rick) and Larry Carmola of South Bend, and Michael Carmola (Michelle) of Granger; his only sister, Helen (Dolly) O'Brien of North Canton, Ohio; and seven grandchildren, Christopher, Nicole, Molly, Laurie, Nicholas, Tony and Jacob.
Tony was employed by the Studebaker Corporation and Miles Laboratories. After 22 years of service Tony retired in 1991 from Miles as a manager in the property accounting department. Tony made a lot of special and lasting friendships while at Miles and was very happy to have worked there.
While his children were growing up Tony was an avid baseball coach at Chet Waggoner Little League. He coached both of his sons' baseball teams who won many championships. He was known as a very patient, caring, nice and knowledgeable coach. He was also a lifetime Cubs fan. Tony was also very active on numerous social athletic committees in his parish at the time, Holy Cross, and later at St. Joseph High School. Tony also enjoyed dancing, and he and Mary never missed a PTA dance. Tony also enjoyed working for the K of C. After his children were grown Tony and his wife loved to follow the Notre Dame football team to their away games. He made many new friendships and accumulated wonderful lasting memories. What a blast they had.
Tony was a very special person with a great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 today in the Kaniewski Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be at 6 p.m.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, University of Notre Dame.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
Ardis L. Coros
May 13, 1924 - April 4, 1999
Ardis L. Coros, 74, of Hammond, Ind., died on Sunday, April 4 in Community Hospital, Hammond.
Mrs. Coros was born on May 13, 1924, in Hawley, Minn., to Olaf Richard Spangfer and Emma Anita Kasin.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gus.
Mrs. Coros is survived by two sons, Keith (Judy) Coros of Granger, Ind., and Jeff (Alma) Coros of Naperville, Ill.; two grandchildren, Alyssa and Jonathan; and by a sister, Vivian Klemsman of Crown Point, Ind.
Ardis was a devoted mother and grandmother. She worked for Inland Steel during World War II.
Services will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday in Concordia Lutheran Church, Hammond, with Rev. Paul Speerbracker officiating. Burial will be in Concordia cemetery, Hammond.
Friends may call from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today in the Bocken Funeral Home, Hammond, and one hour before services in the church on Thursday.
Robert L. Forster
Oct. 5, 1924 - April 4, 1999
Mr. Robert L. Forster, 74, of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, April 4, in the Hancock Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Oct. 5, 1924, in South Bend, to Harold J. and Portia "Ginther" Forster.
On Nov. 19, 1955, he married
the former Betty A. Greene, who survives.
He is also survived by his daughters, Connie J. (Brad) Weber of McCordsville, Ind., Joan L. (Luke) Vanderbleek of Morrison, Ill.; two sons, Robert K. (Lilly) Forster and Gary L. Forster, both of Indianapolis, Ind.; nine grandchildren, Michael and Robert Forster, Riley, Ross and Emma Weber, Mattie, Olivia, Isabel and Tessa Vanderbleek.; a sister, Janie (William) Niedbalski of South Bend; two aunts, Margaret Freund and Alice Blemling of South Bend; and by several nieces and nephews.
Robert retired in 1986 as an engineers assistant with the I & M Electric Company. He served with honor in the United States Army during World War II, and received the Purple Heart for wounds received in action. He held membership in the Vrea Retirement Club, and was a longstanding member of the John Adams Booster Club.
A funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 9, in the Little Flower Catholic Church, with the Rev. Donald Guertin officiating.
Friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for the Homeless or to the Little Flower Catholic Church Food Pantry.
Robert loved fishing and was an avid Notre Dame and Chicago Cubs fan. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and will be missed.
Walter A. Friske, Sr.
June 2, 1913 - April 5, 1999
Walter A. Friske, Sr., 85, of 55240 Colby Street, Dowagiac, Mich., died of natural causes at 3 p.m. on Monday April 5, in his son's Dowagiac home.
Mr. Friske was born on June 2, 1913, in Dowagiac, to Fred and Bertha Friske. Walter was the owner of Friske Body Shop in Dowagiac for 48 years.
On Oct. 9, 1935, he married
Wilma Deuel in South Bend, Ind. She preceded him in death on July 22, 1977. Walter was also preceded in death by a brother, Martin Friske, and by his parents.
To the union of Walter and Wilma three children were born. He is survived by a daughter, Velma (William) Morford of Dowagiac; two sons, Walter Friske, Jr., of Dowagiac and David Friske of Cassopolis, Mich.; 10 grandchildren and 11 great - grandchildren; and by two brothers, George Friske of Watervliet, Mich., and John Friske of Elwood, Ill.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 8, at the Groner Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 9, at the Groner Funeral Home. Burial will be at Riverside cemetery in Dowagiac.
Frances M. Glassburn
Nov. 10, 1924 - April 4, 1999
Frances Marie Glassburn, 74, of Dittman Street, Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 5:05 a.m. on Sunday, April 4, at St. Joseph Community Hospital in Mishawaka.
Frances was born on Nov. 10, 1924, in Mishawaka, to Albert and Cora (Blanchard) Collins, who both preceded her in death. She worked from 1945 to 1985 for Uniroyal.
Frances leaves to cherish her memories her son, Bill Glassburn of South Bend, Ind.; four daughters, Sherry Glassburn of Mishawaka, Mary Doiron of Wakarusa, Ind., Ann Glassburn of Elkhart, Ind., and Penny Puzynski of Mishawaka; a brother, Albert Collins of South Bend; a sister, Edna Benjamin of South Bend; and eight grandchildren, Tracy Glassburn, Kim Hepburn, Shawn Glassburn, Adam Doiron, Bryana Dibble, Robert Glassburn, Nikita Glassburn and Frank Puzynski; and by two great - grandchildren.
Friends may visit from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, April 7, in the Chapel Hill Funeral Home.
