SOUTH BEND - Margaret T. White, 80, of Friendswood, Texas, formerly of South Bend, died Nov. 23 in her home. Survivors include her husband, James L.; a daughter, Lorna of Parkersburg, W.Va.; a son, Kevin of Webster, Texas; and a sister, Helen M. Hildebrand of South Bend. Services were held in Houston, Texas, where burial took place on Nov. 30 in Houston National cemetery. James Crowder Funeral Home, Webster, Texas was in charge of arrangements.
Maynard F. Yoder
Feb. 19, 1917 - Nov. 30, 1998
TOPEKA - Maynard F. Yoder, 81, of Babcock Street, died Monday in Carriage Manor Health Care, Goshen. Survivors include his wife, Marietta; and a son, Thomas of Topeka. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Topeka Mennonite Church, where friends may call from 11 to 2 and 4 to 8 p.m. today and one hour before services Thursday.

SOUTH BEND - Earl M. Zerbe, 81, of Dugdale Drive, died Tuesday in Holy Cross Care and Rehabilitation Center. Private graveside services will be Thursday in Mount Hope cemetery, Logansport, Ind.
Jason E. Brandt
Oct. 20, 1979 - Nov. 30, 1998
Jason E. Brandt, 19, of Oak Knoll Road, Rolling Prairie, Ind., died at 8:37 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 30, in his residence.
He was born on Oct. 20, 1979, in Mishawaka, Ind., to Kathy (Spanos) and Steve Brandt, both of whom survive.
He is also survived by a brother, Christopher Welker and his wife Rebekah of Elkhart, Ind.; a niece, Alexandrea Welker of Elkhart; and by his maternal grandparents, George and Thelma Spanos of South Bend.
Services for Jason will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home, 521 N. William Street, South Bend. Rev. Larry Baker of First Brethren Church of South Bend will conduct the services.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Burial will be in Highland cemetery, South Bend.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to the North Central Indiana Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Program, c/o Memorial Regional Cancer Center, 615 N. Michigan, South Bend, IN 46601.
Monica R. Bunkelman
July 8, 1968 - Nov. 30, 1998
Mrs. Monica R. Bunkelman, 30, of Granger, Ind. passed away on Monday, Nov. 30, in her residence.
She was born on July 8, 1968, in South Bend, Ind., to Jerry and Mary Jane (Brodzinski) Micinski.
On Sept. 24, 1990, in South Bend, she married
Scott Bunkelman who survives.
She is also survived by a daughter, Crystal, at home; her grandfather, Jerry Micinski of South Bend; and by a brother, Mark of South Bend.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mrs. Mary Jane Micinski.
Monica worked for the Michiana Medical Transcription Service. She was a 1986 graduate from John Adams High School and belonged to the Polish Women's Alliance.
Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road.
The family will greet friends one hour prior to services.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family for Crystal's educational future.
Monica was a loving mother to Crystal and faithful wife to Scott.
Stella A. Fuson
April 10, 1909 - Nov. 30, 1998
Stella A. (McKay) Fuson, 89, residing at the Countryside Place Health Care in Mishawaka, Ind., passed away at 10:20 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 30.
On April 21, 1928, in South Bend, Ind., Stella married
James S. Fuson, who preceded her in death in 1996. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Lelith Kreiter and Ruth Cummins.
Stella is survived by a daughter, Dolores M. Hein of Clinton, Iowa; a son, James R. Fuson of Mishawaka; four grandsons; seven great - grandchildren; and by two great - great - grandchildren.
Mrs. Fuson retired as co - owner of the Fuson Floral Shop in Mishawaka. Previously she had been employed by the Uniroyal Corporation of Mishawaka. Stella was a long time member of the Mishawaka Business and Professional Women and the First United Methodist Church of Mishawaka.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North, 3910 No. Main Street, with Rev. Don Carpenter officiating.
Friends may call two hours prior to services on Thursday. Burial will follow at Fairview cemetery, Mishawaka.
Contributions in memory of Stella A. Fuson may be made to the American Cancer Society of St. Joseph County, Alzheimers Disease Assn., South Bend, or to the First United Methodist Church of Mishawaka.
Albert E. Gay
Aug. 13, 1941 - Nov. 29, 1998
Albert "Skip" Edward Gay, 57, of South Bend, Ind., passed away of a heart attack on Sunday, November 29.
He was born on August 13, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Gay; four daughters, Robin Gaytz, Rene Widmoyer, Yvonne Carney and Cassie Bridwell, all of South Bend; a son, Nicholas Gay, also of South Bend; ten grandchildren; and by four stepbrothers, Major (Rtd.) William Daugherty of Colorado Springs, John Daugherty of Colorado Springs, Lt. Dennis Daugherty of California and Thomas Daugherty of North Liberty.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Betty Gay; a sister, Rosemary Doyle; and by a son, Robert Gay.
Mr. Gay served as an Aviation Electrician in the United States Navy. He was a former member of the IBEW Local #153, and a Red Cross first aid instructor. Mr. Gay was a member of the Hardee's Racing Team and an active member of the St. Joseph Valley Rifle and Pistol Association on the South Bend Rifle and Pistol League. Mr. Gay had owned and operated Bell Electric and Al's Electric Services.
As a father, husband, and grandfather he will be truly missed.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today and at 1 p.m. on Thursday with the Memorial Service following at 2 p.m. at Kaniewski Funeral Home on North Bendix Drive.
Contributions may be made in his name to the American Heart, Lung, or Diabetes Associations.
Ruby Jean Gay
April 27, 1928 - Nov. 27, 1998
Mrs. Ruby Jean Gay, 70, of 1102 Salem Street, Michigan City, Ind., passed away following a brief illness at 9:08 a.m. on Friday, November 27, in St. Anthony Hospital, Michigan City.
She was born on April 27, 1928, in Humphrey, Ark., to the union of Brack and Annie (Hockenhull) Higgins, who both have preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by one son, Philip Gay; two sisters, Delma Ruth Higgins and Dorothy Smith; and by two brothers, Leon and Joe Carl Higgins.
She was a graduate of Rosenwall High School in Humphrey.
She was united in holy matrimony in Humphrey to Bubba Gay in 1947. He preceded her in death in 1992.
Coming from Chicago, Ill. in September of 1988, she moved to Michigan City. She was a member of the Revival Center Church of God in Christ where she served as the church mother.
She leaves to mourn her passing four daughters, Valerie (James) Conner of Chicago, Cleo (Bernard) Giles, Peggy Gay and Brenda (Bill) Albert, all of Michigan City; two sons, Lacy (Beverly) Gay and Bubba Gay, Jr., both of Michigan City; 16 grandchildren; 10 great - grandchildren; five sisters, Doris Martin, Gloria (James) Martin, Annie Higgins and Geneva Martin, all of Michigan City and Glaydis (Lewis) Walton of Racine, Wis.; along with a host of other friends and relatives.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at the Revival Center Church of God in Christ with burial following at Greenwood cemetery.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday at the church.
Alford's Mortuary is in charge of handling arrangements.
Viola Goodwin
March 31, 1923 - Nov. 28, 1998
ELKHART - Viola Goodwin, 75, of 229 St. Joseph Street, died from natural causes in her home at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 28.
Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the Billings Funeral Home where an Eastern Star and Order of the Golden Rule memorial service will be at 7 p.m. The family will also receive friends one hour prior to the funeral service at 1 p.m. on Thursday at St. James A.M.E. Church in Elkhart, Ind. Pastor William L. Gary will officiate. Entombment will be in the Hope Mausoleum at Rice cemetery, Elkhart.
Viola Goodwin was born to O. A. Buckner and Rebecca (Redmond) Buckner on March 31, 1923, in Yazoo City, Miss., and attended Saint Industrial and Ambrose high schools in Lexington, Miss.
She is survived by a son, Jerome Gill of Elkhart; one daughter, Rose M. Nave of Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren; one great - grandson; and by two sisters, Mrs. Russell (Mary) Jackson of Aberdeen, Miss. and Mrs. Royle (Marie) Johnson of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Gill, Jr.; and by two brothers, Lee Buckner and Oscar Wright.
Viola was one of the first black licensed beauticians in Elkhart. She owned and operated Gill's Beauty Shop and was president of G & G Beauty Supply Company in Elkhart. She had also worked for the Studebaker Corporation and a Walgreen Drug Store, both in South Bend, Ind. She was a nurse's aide at Elkhart General Hospital for many years and retired as a bus driver's aide for the Elkhart Community Schools.
She was a longtime member of Saint James A.M.E. Church, where she served on the stewardess board, a member of the Wabash Assembly #68 Order of the Golden Rule P.H.A., NAACP, and the Urban League. She was a member of and past worthy matron of Odessa Chapter #28 Order of the Eastern Star P.H.A. and was very active in the Elkhart County 4 - H Clubs.
Memorials may be given in her honor to the Saint James A.M.E. Church building fund.
Irene B. Hambley
March 24, 1913 - Nov. 30, 1998
Irene B. Hambley, 85, of 2907 S. 11th Street, Niles, Mich., died late Monday evening, Nov. 30, in her home.
Mrs. Hambley was born on March 24, 1913, in Niles. On June 15, 1936, she married
Roy Hambley in South Bend, Ind. He preceded her in death on Sept. 10, 1944. She lived her entire life as a homemaker in the Niles area and attended the Community Evangelical Free Church in Niles.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon B. Ward of Niles; two sons, Allan R. Hambley of Houghten, Mich. and Steven B. Hambley of Niles; and by three grandchildren and one great - grandchild.
Services are planned for 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Pifer - SMITH Funeral Home, 521 E. Main Street, Niles. Burial will follow at Smith Chapel cemetery in Niles.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
Mona E. Holdeman
Nov. 25, 1940 - Nov. 30, 1998
Our loving mother, Mona E. Holdeman, 58, of North Notre Dame Avenue, South Bend, Ind., died on Monday, Nov. 30, in her residence.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband of twenty - three years, Charles L. Holdeman; three daughters, Karen E. Huebner of Maryland, Sharon A. Hubbard and Kimberly E. Marshall, both of South Bend; two sons - in - law, Yul P. Hubbard and Mike Marshall, both of South Bend; and four grandchildren, Ashley, Jacob, Alexis and Charles.
Mona moved here from New Hampshire in 1965. She had been employed at Dodge's and at the University of Notre Dame.
Mona will be dearly missed by her family and friends and will live forever in our hearts. We love you, Mom.
Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. on Thursday in the Forest G. Hay Funeral Home, 435 S. Ironwood with Rev. Carol Knox officiating.
Gerald E. Jost
May 26, 1926 - Nov. 25, 1998
SOUTH BEND - Capt. Gerald E. Jost, 72, of Taylor Street, died after a long illness on Wednesday, Nov. 25, at St. Luke's Hospital (hospice) in Houston, Texas.
He is survived by his wife, Opal; nine children; and by 16 grandchildren and two great - grandchildren.
Gerald was born in Superior, Wis., and retired after 43 years with Oglebay - Norton as a Captain in the Merchant Marine. He sailed on many of the Oglebay - Norton fleet including the Edmund Fitzgerald, Sylvania, Richard Burton, Armco, Roche, and was Captain on the William A. Rice. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict and was commissioned a Captain in the Naval Reserve after retiring from Oglebay - Norton.
Captain Jost was elected Grand President of the International Shipmasters Association in 1980 and was a member of VFW and the Elks for many years.
Memorial services will be held in the Summer of 1999 on Lake Superior.
Private services were held in Houston.
