Daisy Marie Stanford

A memorial service for Daisy Marie Stanford will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 10, at Cobb Funeral Home, 3525 South Michigan Street, South Bend, Ind.
Daisy Stanford, 78, of North Elmer Street, South Bend, died at 2:15 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 7, in St. Joseph County Hospice.
She was born on May 16, 1920, in Bolingbroke, Ga., to Anna Marie (Walker) Finney, who preceded her in death. Daisy was raised in South Bend by her maternal grandmother, the late Fannie (Redding) Walker.
In 1942, she was united in marriage to John Louis Stanford, who preceded her in death in March, 1997. To this union, three children were born. Surviving are a daughter, Judith Lynn Stanford of Randallstown, Md.; and two sons, John Louis, Jr. "Jay" and David Merrill of South Bend.
Daisy is also survived by a sister, Helen Wells of South Bend; a granddaughter, Nichelle Kinsler of Randallstown, Md.; a son - in - law and grandson, Horace and Daryck Barnett of Elkhart, Ind.; a great - granddaughter, Kyah Kinsler of Randallstown, Md.; an aunt, Rubye Walker Paige; and by a special friend, Martha Bowlds of South Bend; along with a host of other friends and relatives.
Daisy was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church.
The family request that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the St. Joseph County Hospice.
To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.
Rev. Edgar S. Szymanski, CSC

Father Edgar S. Szymanski, C.S.C., a native of South Bend, Ind., died early Tuesday morning, Dec. 8, in Holy Cross House, South Bend, Ind.
Father Szymanski was born to Anthony and Mary Anne Szymanski on Feb. 4, 1914, in South Bend. He attended St. Casimir's school and graduated from Holy Cross Seminary in 1931. After a year at St. Joseph's Novitiate, he professed his first vows July 2, 1932, and three years later, his final vows on Aug. 16, 1935. After graduating from the University of Notre Dame in 1936 with a degree in Philosophy, he studied theology at Holy Cross College, Washington, D.C. While there, he suffered a long illness with tuberculosis which delayed his ordination until 1943. Following his ordination at Notre Dame by Bishop John F. Noll, he completed his theological studies and began a long life of ministry. He was a chaplain at Holy Cross Novitiate, North Dartmouth, Mass., and at St. Edward's University, Austin, Texas. During 1946 - 50, he was an assistant at St. Hedwig's Parish, South Bend; 1950 - 51, chaplain at Gilmour Academy, Gates Mills, Ohio; 1951 - 59, chaplain at Boysville, Clinton, Mich.; then from 1959 - 67, chaplain at Sacred Heart Military Academy, Watertown, Wis. After two years as an assistant as Holy Trinity Parish, Chicago, Ill., he served for five years at his home parish, St. Casimir's, and for four at St. Stanislaus, both in South Bend. While in residence from 1982 - 93 at Holy Cross Mission House, Notre Dame, he remained active assisting mostly in Polish parishes and especially at St. John the Baptist Parish. Since 1993, he has lived at Holy Cross House where he died.
Fr. Szymanski is survived by several nieces and nephews.
A Vigil Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. today in the Chapel of Moreau Seminary, Notre Dame, Ind.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart, Notre Dame, Ind. Burial will follow in the Holy Cross Community cemetery.

Helen E. Weil

Mrs. Helen E. Weil, 94, of the Milton Home, South Bend, Ind., passed away on Tuesday morning, Dec. 8, in Hospice House of St. Joseph County.
Mrs. Weil was born on Sept. 14, 1904, in South Bend and was a lifetime resident of the South Bend area. In 1923, in South Bend, she married
Frank F. Weil, who passed away in 1989.
Mrs. Weil is survived by a daughter, Donna (William "Blackie") Grauel of South Bend; and a son, Jack (Joan) Weil of South Bend; eight grandchildren; 15 great - grandchildren; and by four great - great - grandchildren.
Mrs. Weil had a sister, E. Hubbard, precede her in death as well as two brothers, George and James Blubaugh.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday in the Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Burial will follow services at the church at the St. Joseph Valley Memorial cemetery in Granger, Ind.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday in Welsheimer Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Road.
Mrs. Weil was loved by all and was a great sports fan. Family has asked that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County.
Glenn R. Williams, Jr.

Glenn Rene Williams, Jr., 19, of North Allen Street, South Bend, Ind., passed away at Memorial Hospital on Thursday, Dec. 3.
On Feb. 17, 1979, in South Bend, he was born to Joyce Taylor and Glenn R. Williams, Sr.
He is survived by a son, Tyshawn Demond Williams; his parents, Joyce Taylor and Glenn R. Williams, Sr.; two sisters, Javonna Harris and Jaques Denise Harris; a brother, Jamar Magee; maternal grandfather, Wardell Taylor; and by his paternal grandmother, Freddie Mae Williams, all of South Bend, along with other relatives and friends.
Glenn attended LaSalle High School and was employed by McDonald's Restaurant.
Funeral Services are at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Grace Christian Church and Evangelistic Outreach. Friends may call at 12 noon at the church.
Alford's Mortuary has been entrusted with arrangements.
